The Tropicana has long passed its prime. Even though its location is right on the corner of the Strip and Tropicana Ave, it pales in comparison to the other 3 casinos it shares that corner with (Excalibur, MGM Grand, and NYNY). I've stayed MANY times at the Orleans and have become a repeat customer. Its location is on Tropicana Ave, but it is about a mile East of the Strip (other side of the 15 fwy). I usually drive to Vegas or when I fly, I rent a car, so driving isn't a problem. The Orleans has very nice rooms (standard is 450 sq ft, larger than most regular rooms), an 18 screen movie theatre on the 2nd floor and even a 70 lane bowling alley. The buffet is very good (several stations offering different types of food: Mexican, Italian, American, Mongolian BBQ, Chinese, much more and a very good dessert section too). The casino is big and seems to be quite roomy with high ceilings. Sometimes one can feel suffocated in the smaller smokier casinos. They also have a free shuttle to the strip. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
