  1. This is a higher average price than I've seen in this area, maybe I should have broken it up into different trips. I can't imagine this is a more expensive time of year. I used the PRICELINE link to book the trip!
  2. I tried all week. I tried everything I could possibly think of in Philly, and couldn't get my normal deals. Then I realized that Wilmington is as close to Philadelphia Airport as downtown Philly, so I started trying there. Don't know why I didn't try that YEARS AGO. I've been driving into Philly and backtracking back past the airport on 95. Staying in Delaware will cut an hour off my overall travel time. I read some reviews of 2* hotels in Delaware and realized that the 2* Christiana hotels near the mall and the casino are actually OK, and I probably wouldn't be in an Extended Stay America. I tried $38, they told me I could re-bid again at $47, I added another zone that I didn't think had any 2* hotels and got $41. I know it's probably not the most popular state, but the hotels and zones on the Delaware hotel list are a big out of date. I used your PRICELINE link, thanks!!
  3. After talking to my partner, I think we have a new plan. He's going to be in San Diego a few days longer than I am, so we are going to try to rent an apartment for the time we're there. We can probably rent a 2-bedroom apartment for the entire month of July if we have to, split it with somebody, and we'll have parking and everything for much less than what we would have if we were staying in a hotel. Just looking at Craigslist real quick, we could probably get a single bedroom for the entire month of July near the college for $500 or less. I was about to spend $1,000+ on a hotel. To answer some of your questions, I was looking in Hotel Circle because most of those hotels have shuttle service on the Con's website. I figured even if we had to walk 2 or 3 blocks to another hotel that had a shuttle, it wouldn't be too big of a deal. But I'm thinking renting a room or an apartment would probably be the best thing. Thanks!!
  4. I don't know, man. I know the hotels sell out early and the ones that don't are sky high until they do. Tijuana has seriously been brought up, I'm not entirely behind it but it might be the best option. If we can get back and forth to the convention center reliably, maybe it will be worth it, they have $50-90 hotels with ok reviews. Next year I might book hotel rooms early and just grab a few extra and see if I can broker them to people at the last minute, ha ha. I'd just love to be close to the convention center, we'll be working the show so we need to be there every day and get there early. I'm really open to anything, I've tried booking fewer days hoping we'll be able to crash with someone else on the days we can't get, I've tried every star level at $100+, I've also tried areas outside of Downtown that I've seen on the Comic-Con website have shuttle service. I'm thinking it might be time to bite the bullet and just reserve a hotel through the convention website.
  5. I'm going to Comic-Con, I'd like to get at least 1 room for all those dates, but I at least need Thursday through Saturday night. I haven't bought my plane tickets yet, so I can work that around when I have rooms.
  6. I was originally trying for 2 rooms from 7/19-7/25, but eventually I got down to 1 room from 7/21-7/24. I kept adding zones that I know don't have 4* hotels and bidding up a few dollars, eventually I stopped at $115. Maybe I'll try a hotel in Tijuana?
  7. I just tried bidding on priceline at $87/night for 2 rooms over 6 nights, encompassing the dates you chose. No luck, but I'll try again tomorrow. I don't know if picking fewer days or rooms would make it more likely. Definitely an awesome room rate considering the date.
  8. This wasn't exactly what I expected from a 3* hotel. I have noticed a lot of hotels lately adding a few amenities like microwave and fridge to every room to be a higher star level. If everything else in the room is still from 1986, that doesn't really make you a 3* hotel. It's a 2.5* with a fridge and a microwave.
  9. I've been trying for 2 weeks to get a hotel in Charlotte for this weekend. I used $5 bonus cash so it was only $70 on my end, but there are about $17 in fees each night. Hotels with lower star levels are also going for more than usual during this time.
  10. On your list this hotel is listed as a 2.5*, so I'll report back later if it seems like a 3 star or 2.5 star. $35 isn't bad either way but I could have probably been a little closer to my convention for the money if I wanted a 2.5 star hotel.
  11. I was trying to get into 3.5* for a max of $55, didn't get it, dropped down to $35 for a 3*, ended up adding an area of Jersey that I know doesn't have 3 or 3.5* hotels, and got the 3* for $40. I wanted something nicer but at least with Holiday Inn I know what I'm getting.
  12. I tried $55 for a 4* and was rejected. I checked the forum and saw someone else had grabbed something similar to what I wanted around the same time for $60, I tried that bid and won! So now I've got March 20-23 in the Rosen Shingle Creek and 23-28 in the Rosen Centre just down the street. Both very close to the convention center, and convenient to both Disney and Universal, should be an awesome trip! This is the link I saw on here, thanks! Priceline Orlando Sorry I was out of the house and I bid on the Negotiator iPhone app and couldn't use your link! Typically I would use it but I couldn't this time :)
  13. Well, I guess I technically got it for $50 because I used a $10 off per night promotion, but still, not bad. $243.20 after fees for 5 nights. This was my first bid, too, so maybe I could have done better :) We'll book the rest of our stay in a few weeks, I'll probably get more aggressive and try to get a 3* or 3.5* for $35-40 without the $10 off. This hotel normally books for $190+ including fees PER NIGHT.
