However, this is the lowest Jax 3* price going back nearly a year when the Aloft and Radisson in this same zone were beating this last April. Price comps for 3*: Hotel's own website's lowest rate = $89 (54% off); HW = $48 @ JAX Airport; Expedia Unpublished best rate = $70; PRICELINE EXPRESS Deals = $48 @ Downtown. I am tentatively pleased, as I believe this is a brand new Cambria Suites, like the new one I recently stayed at in Roanoke, VA (win also posted on BB), which turned out a quite positive experience. It is semi-clean, ultra-basic, no frills, 1970s/80s. It's the former Ramada apparently; the key cards even still indicate so, as to some places on the Net. The free "breakfast" was worth what it cost. The indoor pool's heating unit was malfunctioning and the hot tub was out of commission, we were warned at check-in. One person managing the entire hotel (low season) but was friendly/cordial/accommodating. If you want quiet, be sure to request a room on the backside facing away from the road, upper floor. No elevator though.

Cambria Suites Roanoke 301 Reserve Avenue Roanoke, VA 24016 Comps: HW's best 3* = $58; hotel's own website best rate = $99 Bid history: started with 3.5* for four failed bids from $36 @ $2 increments; restarted bidding process with 3* @ North-Airpot @ $45 (to best my previous low in Roanoke of $46 by $1); failed. Re-bid $45 again by adding Tanglewood area and won this apparently new suites hotel. Looks pretty cool/modern and is currently ranked #1 out of 37 Roanoke hotel on TripAdvisor I began my bidding using BB's PRICELINE link. Please do the same.

3 Palms Hotels and Resorts 11 Edelweiss Street Helen, GA 30545 New hotel to the GA list. The hotel/motel prices in this town are ridiculous. 2.5* hotels going for $150/nt! Very few to even choose from; most all are rated 2*. Comp: Hotel's own website does truly list a basic room @ $80/nt, so this is "technically" a 36.25% savings based on their customary market rate for this weekend. HW has only one other listing, a 1* @ $46. I used BB's HOTWIRE link to begin my purchase; please do the same for yours.

I necessarily had to bid fairly large increments, based on suspected prices using HW as an indicator (PL is usually averages about 80% of best HW price). Thus, with a start @ $51, bid +$7 increments and on third try won this. Others could probably do better; I'm guessing the true "bottom" is somewhere around low $60s. PL countered with a free re-bid offer @ +$10 ($69), which I declined. Bid $60 on 2nd try and won, thus shaving a buck off prior $61 win. However, it should be noted that the saving for this single room/single night was drastically higher, since Marriott's lowest rate jumped dramatically from $139 to $219. Brentwood 2.5* @ $66; Antioch 2.5* @ $53. Marriott's website: $139/nt weekends special is cheapest (thus, this PL = 56% savings). Bid history: Tried bidding for the Franklin zone on Mon, 5/28, for two rooms. Failed with +$2 rebids through Brentwood and all remaining available free zones (excl. Downtown, Airport, Goodletsville, Hendersonville, Opryland). Retried again today starting @ $53; rebids @ +$2 in same zone pattern up through $61, which was this win. FYI, separately won a $60/nt @ same hotel for June 3; failed $59 starting bid; I did this just to test the waters and see if any extra buck could be shaved off my prior success minutes before. FYI2: Today, after my initial failed first bid for the two rooms, PL countered immediately with a "no-factor change" free rebid offer, if I'd increase my offer +$15 to $68. I declined, as I know these usually are worthless, as they're typically higher than the true "bottom"; saved $14 ($7x2) thereby. PL also did the same thing (+$10 -> $69) after my first failed ($59) bid today for the single June 3 room, which I also declined, leading to a $9 savings. Holiday Inn Roanoke Valley View Roanoke North - Airport 3315 Ordway Drive, Roanoke, VA 24017 Comps: Best HW 3* deal in Roanoke for same night = $61 (24.59% discount); hotel's website = $129 (so PL is correct in informing me that I've received a 64% discount; it is 64.34% actually) Bid history: In a rare moment of hurry, and thus a possible "first bid won" mistake in this instance, I bid $46 just to try to beat my December win of $47 for this same area. This meets the two year old wins from mid-2010; two other from that era are $44 and $45. Lowest ever on the board = $40 from Nov 2009, when this hotel was ranked 2*. Took the above deal as a last resort, though I strongly prefer not to stay at any airport locations. Earlier bid all coastal cities from 4* down to 3* at up to $99/nt with no luck. Comps for this night: HW @ $56; hotel's own website @ $87 (the "20% Off Daily" rate; same price for all room types) Bid history: Noting beforehand all the 3* winning bids in Roanoke for the last two years, reading recent successful bid histories, crossing this against HW's 3* prices for this city on this night, and observing that Roanoke still has only 4 zones and only two of those have up to 3* level, I then bid as follows - bid #1: 3*, $44, North-Airport bid #2: $45, +Tanglewood bid #3: $46, +Salem (free rebid) bid #4: $47, +Troutville (free rebid) If I'm not mistaken, this is a new record low price for this hotel. My guesstimation prior to bidding was that BB members had not attempted the odd price, sticking w/ even increments of $46 and jumping to $48, so I might wind up @ $47 and shave a buck if I lucked out and ran through all four zones. Thus, this 3* price appears to be the bottom for this hotel and possibly this area/city. Had I failed today, I would've waited the PL-required 24 hours and returned to PL tomorrow to "ladder up" again from probably a price of $47 or $48.
