  1. Using the PRICELINE link from this site, I started about four days ago at $50, slowly moving up $2-3 each time, adding in areas in San Diego that I know don't have 4 star hotels, got to $70, Priceline then recommended $85, I bid $73 and it was accepted. My wife and I have used this site and Priceline several times to stay in San Diego. This will be our first time at this hotel, usually closer to Seaside Park or the Westin Horton Plaza. It doesn't have a pool but we weren't going to use one in April anyway. I guess we will get our exercise pushing the twins to Seaside Park, about 10 blocks, but the walk will be nice and we are still close to Gaslamp. Thanks betterbidding.
  2. Used the PRICELINE link from this board. Started bid at $60, increased at $5 per bid then to $2, finally at $77 accepted. Changed the zone to increase the bid within the 24 hour period, always picking a zone that doesn't have a 4 star hotel. This is probably our 5th or 6th time getting a 4* hotel in San Diego from priceline and never paying more than $85 a room.
  3. I just started using this board but I think I have at least one prior posting for my stay last November. If not I apologize. i know I have commented on other postings about my "wins" in San Diego.
  4. Initial bid of $65 rejected, continued to increase offer finally accepted at $92 each night with taxes and fees of $33.14 for a total of $217.14 for both nights. I used the PRICELINE link from this board. This is my fifth or sixth time using priceline for the downtown-gaslamp area and have been successful getting that location. The least I have paid is $65 per night and my last bid of $92 was the most I have paid. Each time nice 4* hotels right in or walking distance from Gaslamp.
  5. If it helps, the Manchester Grand Hyatt has tennis courts on their property.
  6. Thank you for your input on both matters. i tried to post them as separate entries but something happened. In looking at prior postings on 3* hotels purchased thru the bidding portion, it appears those are the only two hotels that members of this board have been getting, that is why i was inquiring. Again, thank you for your time. when i start bidding, which will likely be on Monday, do you want me to start a new posting or just add to this one?
  7. The holiday appears to be Martin Luther King Jr, which isn't one of the big major holidays in the United States, as compared to 4th of July, Memorial Day, Labor Day and Presidents Day. As noted in a previous entry, my wife and I just stayed in that same region, the weekend after thanksgiving for $85 per night for two nights and over Valentines day weekend, which was also a three day weekend for Presidents day in February for $75. We have been to San Diego, staying in 4* hotels in the Marina area in various times of the year, spring, winter, fall and summer, and not paying more than the $85 we paid 2 weeks ago. Not sure why they are not getting you better deals, maybe they just don't like the English....just kidding. I'd say keep trying. We usually start about 2 weeks prior to our visit to look for a room. Good luck
  8. Does Priceline list all of the available hotels for straight booking as they use for their "name your own price" booking? Example, in Santa Barbara they only identify two 3* hotels in Santa Barbara, if I did a search to book a room. Are those going to be the only two hotels i may get if I booked thru "name your own price". the two hotels are the Hotel Oceano and the Hotel Mar Monte.
  9. Looking to see if anyone can make an educated guess as to a Hotwire ad for a 3 1/2* hotel in Santa Barbara that is recommended by 85% of hotwire customer reviews with the following amenities: close to the beach no smoking rooms avail fitness center pool restaurant on premises high speed internet spa services looking to stay one night, December 17. Thank you for your time.
  10. My wife and I just stayed at the marriot Marina Hotel the weekend after thanksgiving at $80 per night. In April we stayed at the Hyatt Grand, which is right next to the Marriott, for $75 per night. In February, over Valentine's weekend, we stayed at the Westin Horton Plaza, which was nice and only about a 1 mile walk, or less, to the convention center, for $70 per night. That was also President's Day weekend. All thru Priceline and booked at least 1-2 weeks prior to our stay and all 4* hotels.
