  1. thanks, i am definitely pleased. i am curious what others think about these express deals, as they are relatively new to me. I wonder if they give a PRICELINE EXPRESS deal of that price, would it always make sense to just throw a bid in just below, and hope for an even better deal? Seems logical being as you can always just go grab the express deal if you don't get a bid accepted.
  2. Thank you so much for the prompt reply with that information! $89 a night for a 3.5 star hotel in NYC is unheard of!! Went with MTW over Financial district and got the club quarters Rockefeller ctr location i even called the hotel to check the room type and they have us in their standard room, as opposed to the cheaper club room. all in it was 216.70 after taxes and with the 5% off. thank you so much for the help! Glad i stopped by and posted!!
  3. gotcha, sorry for the vagueness. to me it's complicated to rank location because if i can't find a good place in LES then almost all other areas are equivalent more or less, except for the upper side which i would not want. But i would be willing to spend more money for comparable place in LES than i would anywhere else. that said, all in all i would say that location is least important, second is star rating. i am thinking price and value are most important. is that more helpful?
  4. i'm flexible. i would like to spend less than 200 per night total. star level is pretty flexible as well, and depends on the area. I would like 4 star but if i got LES for example i might be fine with 3 star
  5. Hi all, love your forum and keep coming back to see all the successes. I am planning to do a last minute getaway to NYC with the wife next weekend. I love new york and have been many times, but only really STAYED in the city on a few occasions. there's so much to do and see in the city, and my personal favorite areas to be in are actually some of the hardest to find a good room in. LES and the Village. I'm curious if anyone has an opinion on where to do a search for, i'm more willing to include areas i think than exclude them. I would probably be fine in almost any section short of Financial district and the upper sides, but i also prefer to not be too close to the touristy areas, but am not sure if that means ruling those zones out, or just include them bc it might make for the most success in bidding. All in all, if we are in a nice place, anywhere is accessible, so i am not SO worried. Anyone with an opinion and experience feel free to chime in before i start my search and share the results! 6. hard to say, a buddy has a room he booked directly through parc55 for a total cost of 534 for the three nights i want. we may use his reservation bc if i bid up to 145 that is a total cost of 512...so i guess i would like to stay under 534 total cost. seems like most people are bidding up to 180-190 per night to get a 4 star here. That would seem pricier than it is to book direct through the hotel. Another consideration when bidding for a scenario like this, it seems to me like you are limited by your most expensive night(s). for example, since i want a fri sat and sunday, i may be overpaying for sunday by including it in this request, since the bid will be driven up by fri and saturday's rates.
  7. Thank you for this forum! I always use the PRICELINE links to book. I am wondering, i really don't have a huge preference between USE/USW and SOMA zones. I need to be near to Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, and any of those could be just as close as the next. I feel like it pays to start bidding on all 3 at the same time, so as not to overbid. This way i would get the first one that is available at the bid price. Rather than bid one zone up, then a second, then the third. thougts?
  8. Wait, so does this negate the earlier mentioned technique to determine if your routing will be non-stop or connecting?
  9. At the moment....yes it does. I can't get a room that cheap but i guess it's the gamble of will rooms open up. I know for sure they will at some point, but it's just am i (and probably more so my GF) willing to wait till the last minute and roll the dice to get a last minute deal. Things always open up late for stuff like this. People book rooms and then cancel cause they CAN up till the last minute. That's how priceline works well for us. But this far out.....probably no hotel has enough availability to even place rooms on PL. Y'know?
  10. I have a friend that has an extra reservation at the Staybridge Suites downtown for $150 a night plus tax. It's a 3* hotel. How good is that of a rate for this time of year? I know jazzfest is busy so rates are high. Should i take that or keep trying with PL? I need to let him know.
  11. I may look into some personal rentals, although i don't know what exactly to expect, and if some of these might even be scam artists.
  12. Just to keep things simple we stayed with the suite at the Venetian for the price i mentioned above. Seemed like a better plan for the group we had etc to all stay in the same room
  13. Yeah couldn't book this through a priceline bid....had to book direct. Used the Chelsea direct. Came to like 1600 for 2 nights in the Rockstar suite....was a great room, would say probably worth the cost.
  14. I have stayed in nola before, I am fine with downtown or FQ, have actually only stayed in DT area, never in FQ. Does it pay to just start bidding with both zones right from the start or one then the other? Also, any advice as to whether to open it up to additional areas like convention center maybe? Any idea what to expect to pay so i have an idea where to start the bidding? Not sure if hotels might open up at a lower price so if i try a new search one day, do i keep with same bidding price or up the initial bid from the previous day's attempts?
  15. Trying to get a suite of some sort for a buddies bachelor party. Didn't know if there is any way to use priceline, maybe there's other options. Anyone familiar please offer suggestions. Thanks
  16. Whoops forgot to mention that. It's for tonight, 3/25
  17. Used MTW, TS, and Hell's Kicthen also up to 105. On;y downside is they booked me in a room with one queen bed. Seems like plenty of avail though for 2 doubles, so hopefully they won't give a problem to switch rooms upon check in. Used the helpful PRICELINE links to search. Thanks BB!
  18. Thanks guys for the knowledge and advice! i agree that having three (or even 2) rooms has a benefit - more beds, more bathrooms, more privacy if needed... but i have to imagine that the bigger the room, the more sick that room is, including hangout space etc... the one thing that would defn suck though is if you were the one who wound up sleeping on the pullout couch...those things suck! I'm going to use your tools to look around furthur, but defn some good points to consider
  19. So, a buddy in my group found a "deal" on a suite at the Venetian, works out to like 350 per night for an 1100 sq ft suite with 2 queen beds and a pullout couch...this room is probably amazing, but i am wondering if there is any better way to find equally awesome accommodation and possibly save a few bucks while using PRICELINE to bid? Any advice greatly appreciated!
  20. Well, i have a room held at clubquarters on wall st. now for about 200 per night. i think i'd prefer to be closer to midtown, but i guess that is about my budget...200 per night
  21. Hi, Thanks for your reply! I've already made a few priceline bids using the links from the board, but no luck so far. So far i have bid up to 160 for a 3.5 star hotel in the areas of: CPS, CA, ESBA, HK, MSG, MW, TS, UWS - I left out UE based on how far some had said it can be to walk to a subway. I also left out the DSFD area b/c it seems like it is so far from anything that it's not worth to stay there, although i worry that's where the best deals are
  22. I'm looking for a room somewhere in nyc checking in on 12/30 checking out on 1/2. As this is i'm sure one of the most busy weekends to stay in Manhattan, some advice would be appreciated. I'd actually prefer to be close-ish to MSG, as this will be a destination for all three nights, but if the deal is right i don't mind staying somewhere else if it saves a few bucks. It's kind of overwhelming with all the zones and options...i'm not really sure what $$ number to start the bidding at and which zones to include or not include I do understand the technique of zone adding the way it's been explained, so i don't need an indepth analysis on that topic, but still a bit overwhelmed on the whole thing....
