Booked two rooms for one night for three adults and one child for $165.16. Amenities: Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-Speed Internet Access, Accessible for the blind, Accessible for the deaf, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom. All signs were pointing to Capital Hilton. Not my favorite 4* hotel (should I say "not a 4* hotel"?) but for the location the price was hard to beat. Interestingly enough, I've been periodically checking various dates in that same area and I saw "Capital Hilton lookalikes" that only differed by price and Hotwire ratings of 85%, 90%, or no rating at all. Does tweaking the rating become the new mean to maintain opacity?

As a note, Hotwire hotel list suggests that this hotel is "Ilikai Hotel." While "Waikiki Marina Resort" and "Ilikai Hotel" share the same address these are two properties under different management.

As described in my other post I've used Priceline to book 2 rooms in Sheraton On The Falls for 6/24-25. It is probably reasonable to assume that their res system will default us to the cheapest available room category which is "two beds, no view." What is the most sensible strategy to get upgraded to a Fallsview room, better yet, two Fallsview rooms :)? I've read in another forum that in Vegas it is common to (discretely) tip check-in clerk $20 to get an upgrade, and this strategy quite often works. Should I try that in Niagara Falls, or that would just make me look like a jerk?

That's pretty much all you could ask for :) That's all right. There is no conflict. "Excess" (usually called "deductible" in the US) is the amount of loss not covered by CDW. Let's say excess is $500 (which is typical I think). Scenario 1: you hit the curb and rip a tire which costs $150 to replace. It would be your responsibility to pay $150 because it's all under excess. Scenario 2: a tree falls on the car and the car becomes total loss. Then your responsibility is to pay $500 and the rest comes under CDW. In reality (we are all good drivers, and trees are not supposed to fall for no reason, right?) you should not worry about all this.IMHO you have found a very good rate. If I were you I'd have booked it.

That seems a bit too expensive. Check British booking sites, like Opodo, Expedia, Orbitz ... (Web address would be www.<site name>.co.uk) It looks like you could save at least $100 - $150 by boking through them, assuming they'll be able to accept a credit card with non-UK address.

Yes, that's what I mean. By the way, keep in mind that US rental rates do not include mandatory liability insurance. Most people here have their own insurance, but since you are "from another country" you may have to buy one from the rental company. That could easily double the cost of your rental. Did you look at "all-inclusive" rental rates, say those which you get from car rental website based in Europe or may be in your own country? Sure thing they are more expensive, but not when you factor in insurance cost.

Thanks. No this is not a "Manhattan trip." I need a car for apartment hunting on Long Island. Sure thing car rental rates are capacity controlled. So are the airfares, but that does not stop them from going up and down. Capacity control alone can't explain 300% price hike from June 30th to July 1st. So my question is this: are the rental car companies known to hold prices high for those who book and forget, and then drop them looking for "last minute business"? I'll keep my eyes on the prices and let the board know about the outcome. Edited: I do not believe in Manhattan residents significantly contributing to demand at JFK/LGA. It makes a lot more sense for them to rent from EWR.

I will be renting a car from JFK to LGA for a week in July (from 8 till 15). What I observe is that at the moment the rates for pick-up in July are a lot higher compared to July reservations. For comparison, midsize from National can be reserved for about $160 a week all in with pick up in June, but price jumps to over $400 if picked up when I need it. Similar stuff with Budget. Is there any reason to expect that July rates will drop once the month starts? It's kind of pointless to waste time now trying to save $10 or so knowing that the rates will drastically drop in two weeks anyway. Or so I hope :)

AFAIK none of the major car rental companies would let you return weekly rental after four days without penalty. Fox Rent-A-Car in LAX once reduced my rental cost when I've returned the car one day sooner, but that was an exception rather then the rule.

IMHO it still makes sense to keep an eye on the prices, since they tend to fluctuate a lot over time. I've checked with National (using Contract ID 5007384 which is posted right on their website) and the total comes to 289 Euro for Compact (Astra or similar). That's fully cancelable, in fact you don't have to give your CC number to reserve. Both stations are operated by Europcar, however the Luebeck is off-airport. 20 Euro difference may not be a good reason to go to the city to pick up the car. But if the price drops, and it could, the difference may be worth the trip.

That was a very old post, but I'd like to comment that even though car rentals are indeed priced on a 24h basis, the rental company may charge you for overstay if you don't return the car when promised, even if the number of 24h periods is still the same. Some rental contracts even have a clause, say for weekly rentals, that if you return the car too early, they'll make you pay extra fee. Bottom line: returning the car a few hours earlier is probably safe, returning it later may be not.

Needed a hotel for the DS to sleep through the overnight connection in BWI. It did not matter which one that would be, but based on past bids was hoping to get 2.5* Hyatt for about $45 or so. Considering that there are plenty of 2* or less rebid zones in Baltimore, I've started at $43 for 2.5* in BWI -- REJECTED upped to $45 for 2.5* in BWI (plus rebid zone) -- ACCEPTED, with "upgrade" to 3*: Holiday Inn Baltimore International Airport Subtotal: $45.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $13.54 Total Charges*: $58.54

Thanks, I'm afraid it was not. I was secretly hoping it to turn out to be one of the smaller hotels in or very close to Old Montreal. But unless someone else pulls the trigger on this one and gets positive ID, I'll stick to my current plan which is to use my Choice Privileges points for a free stay in Quality Hotel Downtown. It's only 2*, but at mere 8000 points it's a rather good deal, and I don't plan on spending too much time indoors anyway.

By the way, checking the reservation directly on Delta website gives a glimpse on the profit Hotwire makes: Delta's reservation shows rate of 53$CAD. If that's the correct amount Hotwire pays Delta then the former actually pockets 25% of the total. WOW!
