  1. Booked two rooms for one night for three adults and one child for $165.16. Amenities: Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-Speed Internet Access, Accessible for the blind, Accessible for the deaf, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom. All signs were pointing to Capital Hilton. Not my favorite 4* hotel (should I say "not a 4* hotel"?) but for the location the price was hard to beat. Interestingly enough, I've been periodically checking various dates in that same area and I saw "Capital Hilton lookalikes" that only differed by price and Hotwire ratings of 85%, 90%, or no rating at all. Does tweaking the rating become the new mean to maintain opacity?
  2. Listed amenities are: Near Beach Studio Fully-equipped Kitchen Smoke Free Rooms Daily Housekeeping Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Laundry Facilities High-speed Internet Access Kitchenette. As a note, Hotwire hotel list suggests that this hotel is "Ilikai Hotel." While "Waikiki Marina Resort" and "Ilikai Hotel" share the same address these are two properties under different management.
  3. Was bidding on two rooms in late July, trying to get advantage of $10 bonus cash. DC hotels seem unusually pricey this coming October. Bonus Cash Per Room, Per Night: more information $10.00 Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $60.00 Total Offer Price Per Room, Per Night with Bonus: $70.00 Total Charges to your Credit Card Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $60.00 Subtotal: $240.00 Taxes & Fees: $49.60 Total Charges*: $289.60
  4. Tried lower bids, just for fun, got rejected couple of times. $41 bid accepted for the total of $54 and change. Used PRICELINE link on the board.
  5. As described in my other post I've used Priceline to book 2 rooms in Sheraton On The Falls for 6/24-25. It is probably reasonable to assume that their res system will default us to the cheapest available room category which is "two beds, no view." What is the most sensible strategy to get upgraded to a Fallsview room, better yet, two Fallsview rooms :)? I've read in another forum that in Vegas it is common to (discretely) tip check-in clerk $20 to get an upgrade, and this strategy quite often works. Should I try that in Niagara Falls, or that would just make me look like a jerk?
  6. Bidding was done a while ago (late May?) for two rooms in 4* property with this particular Sheraton being top choice. Started at $60 and went up with $3 increments. Result: Sheraton On The Falls 4-star Check-In Date: Tue, Jun 24, 2008 / After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Wed, Jun 25, 2008 / 12:00 PM Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: US$72.00 Subtotal: US$144.00 Taxes & Service Fees: US$27.92 Total Charges: US$171.92 I have a question about getting an upgrade (to Fallsview room) which I better ask in another thread.
  7. That's pretty much all you could ask for :) That's all right. There is no conflict. "Excess" (usually called "deductible" in the US) is the amount of loss not covered by CDW. Let's say excess is $500 (which is typical I think). Scenario 1: you hit the curb and rip a tire which costs $150 to replace. It would be your responsibility to pay $150 because it's all under excess. Scenario 2: a tree falls on the car and the car becomes total loss. Then your responsibility is to pay $500 and the rest comes under CDW. In reality (we are all good drivers, and trees are not supposed to fall for no reason, right?) you should not worry about all this.IMHO you have found a very good rate. If I were you I'd have booked it.
  8. That seems a bit too expensive. Check British booking sites, like Opodo, Expedia, Orbitz ... (Web address would be www.<site name>.co.uk) It looks like you could save at least $100 - $150 by boking through them, assuming they'll be able to accept a credit card with non-UK address.
  9. Yes, that's what I mean. By the way, keep in mind that US rental rates do not include mandatory liability insurance. Most people here have their own insurance, but since you are "from another country" you may have to buy one from the rental company. That could easily double the cost of your rental. Did you look at "all-inclusive" rental rates, say those which you get from car rental website based in Europe or may be in your own country? Sure thing they are more expensive, but not when you factor in insurance cost.
  10. From my experience, Alamo clerks almost never check for memberships or coupons, because the discount(s) already show(s) up in their system. Contract ID 7014182 is for users of VacationOutlet.com website, so anyone in the world can use it. For the coupon simply print out that page and bring it with you, just in case.
  11. Thanks. No this is not a "Manhattan trip." I need a car for apartment hunting on Long Island. Sure thing car rental rates are capacity controlled. So are the airfares, but that does not stop them from going up and down. Capacity control alone can't explain 300% price hike from June 30th to July 1st. So my question is this: are the rental car companies known to hold prices high for those who book and forget, and then drop them looking for "last minute business"? I'll keep my eyes on the prices and let the board know about the outcome. Edited: I do not believe in Manhattan residents significantly contributing to demand at JFK/LGA. It makes a lot more sense for them to rent from EWR.
  12. I will be renting a car from JFK to LGA for a week in July (from 8 till 15). What I observe is that at the moment the rates for pick-up in July are a lot higher compared to July reservations. For comparison, midsize from National can be reserved for about $160 a week all in with pick up in June, but price jumps to over $400 if picked up when I need it. Similar stuff with Budget. Is there any reason to expect that July rates will drop once the month starts? It's kind of pointless to waste time now trying to save $10 or so knowing that the rates will drastically drop in two weeks anyway. Or so I hope :)
  13. AFAIK none of the major car rental companies would let you return weekly rental after four days without penalty. Fox Rent-A-Car in LAX once reduced my rental cost when I've returned the car one day sooner, but that was an exception rather then the rule.
  14. IMHO it still makes sense to keep an eye on the prices, since they tend to fluctuate a lot over time. I've checked with National (using Contract ID 5007384 which is posted right on their website) and the total comes to 289 Euro for Compact (Astra or similar). That's fully cancelable, in fact you don't have to give your CC number to reserve. Both stations are operated by Europcar, however the Luebeck is off-airport. 20 Euro difference may not be a good reason to go to the city to pick up the car. But if the price drops, and it could, the difference may be worth the trip.
  15. Hilton Boston Logan Airport 4-star Revere - Logan Airport 85 Terminal Road East Boston, Massachusetts 02128 617-568-6700 Check-In Date: Sat, Mar 29, 2008 / After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Sun, Mar 30, 2008 / 12:00 PM Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $65.00 Subtotal: $65.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $15.91 Total Charges*: $80.91 Story: Needed a room in BOS for late arriving flight. Bid $45 for 2.5* REJECTED Added (one at a time) rebid zones S. Boston, Brighton and Medford and bid $50, $53, $56 for 3* ALL REJECTED Added Waterfront (b/c no hotel there would accept bids in this range anyway) and bid with rebid zones $59, $62, $65 for 4*, the last bid was ACCEPTED.
  16. That was a very old post, but I'd like to comment that even though car rentals are indeed priced on a 24h basis, the rental company may charge you for overstay if you don't return the car when promised, even if the number of 24h periods is still the same. Some rental contracts even have a clause, say for weekly rentals, that if you return the car too early, they'll make you pay extra fee. Bottom line: returning the car a few hours earlier is probably safe, returning it later may be not.
  17. Needed a hotel for the DS to sleep through the overnight connection in BWI. It did not matter which one that would be, but based on past bids was hoping to get 2.5* Hyatt for about $45 or so. Considering that there are plenty of 2* or less rebid zones in Baltimore, I've started at $43 for 2.5* in BWI -- REJECTED upped to $45 for 2.5* in BWI (plus rebid zone) -- ACCEPTED, with "upgrade" to 3*: Holiday Inn Baltimore International Airport Subtotal: $45.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $13.54 Total Charges*: $58.54
  18. Thanks, I'm afraid it was not. I was secretly hoping it to turn out to be one of the smaller hotels in or very close to Old Montreal. But unless someone else pulls the trigger on this one and gets positive ID, I'll stick to my current plan which is to use my Choice Privileges points for a free stay in Quality Hotel Downtown. It's only 2*, but at mere 8000 points it's a rather good deal, and I don't plan on spending too much time indoors anyway.
  19. ... yes, it's there... does it tell you anything? do you think it may be Delta getting 4* ?
  20. Any idea which one could that be: 4* in Downtown Montreal Shuttle, Fitness, Pool, Restaurant, Business, Laundry, High-speed Internet, Spa? Rate for 2p June 25/26 comes at $81 before fees. Thank, H.S.
  21. 1 room(s) $59.00 per night x 7 night(s) :$413.00 Taxes recovery charges and fees :$60.30 Total :$473.30 Amenities: Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Children's Activities Was glad to jump on this one, because "Children Activities" hinted toward Chelsea, and that's the only 3.5* Hotwire hotel in Toronto that is close to U. of Toronto campus. By the way, checking the reservation directly on Delta website gives a glimpse on the profit Hotwire makes: Delta's reservation shows rate of 53$CAD. If that's the correct amount Hotwire pays Delta then the former actually pockets 25% of the total. WOW!
  22. InterContinental New Orleans 444 St. Charles Avenue New Orleans, Louisiana 70130 (504) 525-5566 Check-in: Fri, Jan 5, 2007 Check-out: Mon, Jan 8, 2007 4-star Upscale 1 room(s) @ $59.00 per night x 3 night(s) $177.00 Hotel Taxes and fees $37.46 Total Price $214.46 Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Business Customer favorite. Couple of personal notes: 1. Judging by the price and description I have expected the Sheraton, that would by my "conference hotel." Oh well, Intercontinental for that price is not a bad deal either. 2. Right after my booking the price went up to $88/night! WOW!
  23. Also when you click on "Continue" button, you'll see the text: followed by the very same reference number. So there is nothing secret about this number, it just identifies this particular price quote.
  24. This hotel is an OK 3* property and at the price I've paid is a fair deal. I wrote about our stay in review section of this site.
