  1. I shouldn't have to work around to get the correct service in 2020. If it's advertised in $CAD and they can't sell it, then whats the point? Why waste people's time? frankly surprised the lack of value both Hotwire and Priceline can get these days, as I am certain, in Canada at least, that there is a huge amount of hotel room inventory sitting vacant. Seems to me you get better offers when they are fighting for your business. i ended up booking a private inn that will discount rooms the closer you get to the date, which for me is this weekend. I have often found Hotwire and Priceline to be frustrating, and hardly that much of a deal, considering the restrictions of buying through them. great if you are not familiar with the towns landscape, but if you are familiar with hotels, and cities, then you're sometimes better off finding your own deal.
  2. So, the issue is that the prices I see being displayed in $CAD are actually $US rates, but I am trying to buy in $CAD. It doesnt let me. This is the same across the board for Hotwire, it appears. I can get my deal, but In $US, which is still (ironically) higher than the posted hotel rate. I'm off to Booking.com, or direct to the hotel.
  3. I can see the standard rates, but they cannot be booked. The issue is the prices are actually $US, but it shows them in $CAD. When you try book, it does not work. It tells you price is higher.
  4. Just tried Halifax - Nova Scotia dates for November 6-9. Every standard rate booking I try gives me the same reply. I cant book without a price increase.
  5. St Johns Delta Same thing Courtyard Marriott same thing Hilton Garden St Johns ..... you guessed it Man, do I have something wrong in my browsers? I can book Hot Deals, but get the price bump for all their standard bookings. I guess I can try a few other cities......
  6. Here is a link to what I am talking about. Even if I try to book a week in advance, I cannot book this hotel. Tried other discount price hotels and same thing. Figured with COVID, getting a hotel deal would be a breeze.
  7. September 17th, 2020 Hotwire Issue - Price bumped higher for standard rate hotels. I am getting this for every single "standard rate" room in a hotel for St Johns, NL, specifically a Doubletree Hilton. When I click to book, I get two options for every room, a cheap rate, and a reduced rate. No matter what I click, I get the same "we hate when this happens" message. I tried a few discount rooms in the city on Hotwire, and same result. Why bother? Not a great business model. I tried 2 -3 different browsers, and also tried to book on my IPAD. Same result. So not my cookies, etc. "We hate it when this happens... The price of your trip has changed from $90.36 to CAD 119.00 average per night. Rates can change frequently. Book now to lock in this price." Plus taxes "We hate it when this happens... The price of your trip has changed from $83.26 to CAD 109.65 average per night. Rates can change frequently. Book now to lock in this price." I can book at the hotel website direct for $99. WTF?
  8. I would have demanded another room if they weren't at capacity. PRICELINE or not. Those should not be rooms but rather linen closets.
  9. Just stayed there this past weekend... so be advised The hotel was booked solid when we arrived and the two rooms I booked were numbered 620 and 720. They were right next to the elevator shafts and you can hear the damn things all day and night. I complained and got both rooms changed (for the better noisewise), the next night. Avoid room numbers ending in the 20's at this hotel, or simply ask if your rooms are by the elevator, and refuse them. The hotel is by no means a 4 star either . It's o.k. but older to be honest. Nothing bad about it, but nothing 4 star either. Just what you'd expect in any decent hotel or clean motel. Great location in the heart of the city close to Spring Garden Road and teh waterfront makes it appealing to anyone. Safe area of town. YOu can park free in teh Supertore across teh road too. Don't want to paly it down as it is still really nice. Sometimes feel the 4 star rating relates more to the amenities available than the actual rooms you get. Have a nice trip.

  11. FYI - Dates for my Halifax trip are November 26 and 27th, 2010
  12. Lived near this hotel for 10 years. Bit of a boutique style but awesome rooms and a great restaurant (Dofskis) on the main level. Nothing overly fancy about it, but newer and ideally located. Free parking too. Right between the downtown, Spring Garden and Citadel Hill areas. The only reason I did not bid the star value for Halifax was I was scared of gettin the Atlantica which is the old Holiday Inn and in a pretty lousy location near the Halifax commons. Can't say I have stayed there, but a more dated hotel. Ended up getting the 4* Westin Nova Scotian for $60 / night on PRICELINE. Suite!!!!
  13. My first post and very first use of PRICELINE. I am pretty pleased to say the least. I was looking around for hotel deals all last night, and the cheapest I could find from hotel sites was $125 for Halifax downtown hotels. $139 for the Westin which we won here. To say I am elated with $60 for this hotel, which I have stayed at before, is pretty well understating it. I'll be pricelining a few more vacations that is fo shoah! Won on our first bid. Should have bid $50. Shoot!!!!
