  1. Sorry, I forgot to mention that I've extended the stay 1 night, it's now 6/12-6/15. That's probably why you didn't see it. I still see it now. $104/night.
  2. Well I still haven't booked anything, and it appears that it's a busy weekend as rates look like they've gone up for the most part. However, now I see a 3.5 star in Newport/HB on express deals. Guest score 7.0 Guaranteed Amenities: Indoor or Outdoor Pool Restaurant Fitness Center Free Parking Airport Shuttle Free Internet Business Center Any thoughts on this one? Although ideally I'd like to be next to the beach, I will settle for something else if the price is right and it's not too far. Thanks
  3. I also see a 3.5* with a guest score of 7.0 for $122 in the same area. Indoor or Outdoor Pool Restaurant Fitness Center Free Internet Business Center Thanks again for your help.
  4. Hello, Planning a weekend getaway with my wife and 3 year old. Checking out Express Deals for the first time today. Came across this 4* in Newport-HB area. Showing $117/night. Guest score 7.0 Indoor or Outdoor Pool Pets Allowed Restaurant Fitness Center Airport Shuttle Business Center Any thoughts? I may change my strategy as I go. My dates are the only thing set at this point. I am really trying to find something right on/across from the beach for under $200 (more like <$150>), whether in Newport, HB or Laguna. I realize there are no guarantees here, just thought I'd look into it at the least. Is my goal even realistic through name your own, express, hotwire, etc. type bookings? To (somewhat) reliably find beachfront properties? Thanks in advance for your help.
  5. Just wanted to keep you guys posted, I just booked this room (through your HOTWIRE link) about 20 minutes ago. By far the best rate I have seen for a 3.5* for this date in NYC. I have been searching for a while, from this previous thread Priceline NYC hotels. Anemities listed are Smoke Free, Fitness, Restaurant, Business, High Speed Internet. Also note, your Hotwire hotel list shows the Paramount as a 3* property. I guess they've upped the * level since the recent renovation I just read about. All told, I ended up booking my entire trip through Hotwire for great, great rates. (each separately, over the course of about a month) Airfare SLC-LGA =$169/pp TOTAL Hotel 6/5-6/6 @ 3.5* Manhattan Centre =$109 Hotel 6/6-6/7 @ 3.5* Paramount Times Square=$144 This is BY FAR the most affordable trip I have ever booked to NYC, and I couldn't have done it without thereuare's help, and all the great info on this site. Betterbidding is the undisputed champ of helping you find travel deals! Thank you!
  6. Just a heads up-the date is incorrect on the updated thread title. 6/5-6/6 is what it should be. It also shows the wrong dates on the win calendar.
  7. I forgot to mention, amenities listed were exactly as they appear on your hotwire hotel list. Restaurant, business, and high speed Internet.
  8. After several failed attempts (up to $140) at booking both nights together through PRICELINE, I have decided to change my strategy to booking each night separately. I jumped on a 3 1/2* I saw tonight on HOTWIRE (for 6/5-6/6). Ended up being Manhattan Centre Hotel for $109-not too shabby! Now the plan is to get at least a 3* for a similar price on 6/6-6/7
  9. thereuare, thanks again for your help. I will be trying these strategies later today.
  10. Sure, let's add it. I am looking for the best possible deal. If you could, please also suggest a 3* strategy? I'm a bit confused, as there aren't many rebid zones. Thanks again for your help, much appreciated. Also, there is now a 2* showing on Hotwire in Central Park for $118. Lowest I've seen yet. Complimentary breakfast, fitness and business centers for anemities, customer rating on TripAdvisor 3.5 out of 5.0. Any thoughts in general on what I should expect from a 2* in the area? Is there a chance of a place with shared bathroom? This would be a major no go for the wife.
  11. Thanks. Just got rejected up to $140 @ 4* level. About to try 3 1/2 *.
  12. I guess start with 4* with $150 max, and work down in star rating from there? TS, MTW, MSG, ESB. If I have to, I will add CPS (small rooms or not).
  13. I am walking the line between price and comfort. Ideally I would like to find a 3-4* for $150 or less. I think ultimately price will be my deciding factor. I'd like to avoid the sub 4* MTE situation. As for CPS, I guess it would be on the bottom of my choices below 4*.
  14. Thanks. I should've stated initially, my dates are slightly flexible. My stay in the area is from 6/3 to 6/8. I am staying with fam in NJ, but I'd like to get a room in the city for the wife and I for at least a couple nights. I have a major snafu in my plan though. I am going to the Yankees game on 6/7, and my flight the next morning departs LGA at 5:45am (!). The Yankees game will probably not end until at least 11-11:30 best case scenario. So now I am considering getting a room from 6/5-6/7, and skip the room for 6/7-6/8. Hang in the city after the game and head to the airport. Hotwire is showing a 3 1/2* in MTC for $165, tempting. It also appears that all rates are slightly cheaper for these dates. 6/7 seems to be a pricey night to stay in NYC. I think my new plan is to research and find the best rate for these dates on hotwire, then give priceline a shot to see if I can beat the price. If I were to ask for advise on a bidding strategy on priceline, would you like me to start a new thread in the price line forum? Or continue here? I'd be looking for 3* or better, In TS, MTW, MTE, CPS, MSG, ESB. Not necessarily in that order. Thanks for your help!
  15. I am definitely interested in the property, but in all honesty I am disheartened by the rates I am seeing for these dates. I am deciding between getting this room or risking losing the rate and trying my luck on a 3* or 4* on Priceline. Ideal rate would be $150/nt. Thanks for your help.
  16. Hello, I used the HOTWIRE link provided here, and am searching for a decent deal on a room that's not a total dump. Dates are 6/6/11 to 6/8/11. Hotwire shows a 2* in Central Park for $140, which is substantially cheaper than anything else I see for these dates. The hotel is recommended in 75% of Hotwire customer reviews. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. EDIT-I forgot to mention, 3.0 rating on trip advisor, and the hotel amenities are fitness center, restaurant, business center, and high speed internet. Days Hotel Broadway perhaps?
  17. Well after a month of deliberation, I gave it a shot tonight. I ended up getting the New Yorker for $165/nt. Total after tax $802.80. Not too shabby! Especially since rates for Sat. 11/13 are very high all over the city. And I have stayed at the New Yorker before and at least know what to expect. This is exactly where I wanted to be, price wise AND location wise-I really couldn't be happier. Big thanks to Thereuare for the advice on a strategy. For those wondering, I began my bidding on 4*, up to $165, no go anywhere (TS, MT, MSG, CPS, Chelsea) Bid 3 1/2* up to $165, same results as above I then bid 3* up from $150 to the magic number of $165 to obtain the New Yorker
  18. Thanks for the reply! Let's say 3* minimum, in one of these zones TSTD, MSG, MTE, MTW, CPS My goal is to get as cheap a rate as possible in a decent hotel. Private bath is the only 'anemity' I really need. I'm guessing all 3* hotels have private baths in NYC? I've stayed in hotels in NYC before, I know rooms can be cramped. But the wife and I really just need a clean, safe place to sleep. I know I'm asking a lot given the current rates for my travel dates, but I'm always up for a good deal hunting challenge :) And $150/nt isn't necessarily my max, but it is where I'd like to end up. I'd probably go as high as $170-$175, beyond that I'm not so comfortable blind bidding since I know I can get the friends/fam deal @ Holiday Inn I mentioned. Thanks again for your help!
  19. Hey gang, First poster here. Just like to say thanks for all the great info here. I am a deal hound, but haven't yet tried a blind bid on a hotel. You guys (and the insanely high NYC hotel rates) pretty much have me convinced to try it out. I need a room in NYC check in 11/13 check out 11/17. I can right now get a friend/family deal at Holiday Inn in Mid Town I believe it is, and the rate is just over $200/nt. Not a great deal, and more than I want to spend. I could also stay in Secaucus, NJ @ Harmon Meadows Holiday Inn for about $130/nt. Not bad, but I'd love to stay in Manhattan near that price point. I'd prefer to stay somewhere centrally located, such as Times Square, Theatre District, etc. But I'm flexible with location, as long as it's not a dump. Budget is a concern. I'd like to stay somewhere for around $150/nt or less if possible. Would I be asking way too much in thinking I might be able to get a 4* location at this price range? 3.5*-3* would probably also be fine. I noticed someone got a room at a newer Holiday Inn Express near MSG (rated 3*) for $137/nt. I would jump on that deal if I could get it for my dates. No hostels or shared bathrooms. Internet included would also be a plus, but not a deal breaker. Smoking room would be nice too, since it's hard to find anywhere to smoke in NYC. But also not a deal breaker. Thanks in advance for any help/advice!
