  1. I've tried every day since last weekend starting at $45 and going up as high as $65 with no success or counter offers. You must have timed it just right because I tried last night (and just tried again tonight) up to $65 with no luck. Very frustrating!!! Congrats on your win though - a great deal for the Westin (though I'd be just as happy with the Hyatt).
  2. Outright rejected with no counter offer at $40 but got it immediately when rebid zone added and upped to $45. $45/$46 seems to be the sweetspot for TPA 4* properties. Steal for such a nice resort. Used direct inquiry PRICELINE box link at top of page (works much better than the old SB link - love it!)
  3. Started at $40, counteroffer for $12 more, declined and added rebid zone and was accepted at $45. Going rate is $95+ so half off. Used PRICELINE link.
  4. Thanks for the tips!!! The Venetian is actually $139/night booking direct, so the $130 counter offer is really not that great. And like you mentioned, there are possible matches for Wynn and Trump (although I personally don't think the Trump is hitting the same standard as Wynn, Venetian et al). As posted by Zandar as well, counter-offers representing over 50% increase from the amount originally bid. I think it definitely must be a new strategy - previously counter-offers were within $20 or so, but for a counter offer to be 50% or 60% more than the original bid was never seen before (IMHO / AFAIK).
  5. Bidding for 5* Strip North 24th-27th January. Counter-offers are of course nothing new, but usually a counter offer is within $20 or less of the initial bid. With a bid of $80, I got a counter offer of $130/night. Just thought that it was interesting that the counter-offer was so much higher, more than 50% higher than the original bid. I've never seen a counter offer this high before. I am wondering if it is because 2 of the nights are off-peak, but one of the nights is peak (weekend). I am looking at splitting up the stay (although this can be risky of course) and will update if more information.
  6. $46 on Hotwire for this property, but with tax and the Hotwire booking fee, was actually more expensive than the total rate on Ex.pedia so will be contacting Hotwire to see if I can take advantage of their price guarantee. Property is the lowest rated in Sarasota, so hopefully we won't be confronted by the same problems that have been graphically described by other guests on this property :) Probably would recommend other bidders to avoid bidding on this one.
  7. You were 100% right, Quality Inn - will post a separate win thread. Used HOTWIRE link - thanks for your help.
  8. The rate is $49/night for 16th October, 1 night. Upon further investigationI suspect this may be the Sleep Inn? Other hotels in the area that might match are the Springhill Suites and Residence Inn, but those are usually 2.5 or even 3 star, not 2 star.
  9. Can anyone maybe shed some light on what may be a new property listed on Hotwire as a 2* at Sarasota Bradenton Airport Sounds like a limited service or extended stay property - Free Breakfast, Pool and Laundry Any help appreciated, looking for a one night overnight before renting a car the next day. Thanks!
  10. I've booked multiple rooms for $69 at the CP San Pedro, but have been rejected up to and including $68 with no counter offer. It seems that you have to hit the exact number! Try $69 and see how you go... and maybe even rebid up to $79. It seems that the CP offers identical rates on Hotwire as on PL for many dates, so if there is an 'unidentified hotel' on Hotwire for $79 that might match, then you may have some luck getting it on PL for same price? As has already been stated, you can't bid for a specific hotel, but I bid for 5 seperate rooms, on 3 seperate days, and got the $69 rate for the Crowne Plaza every time. Good luck.
  11. I could only get this rate for weekend nights. I tried up to $135 for the following Monday night, and rejected. It looks like it may be easier to get the bargain rates on Sat and Sun nts than weekday nights.
  12. Started at $90, and worked way up to $110 and accepted. Went in to book a second room, and tried $101 (rejected), and then $105 - accepted. No counter-offers despite being really close at $101 which was interesting. used SB link!
  13. Used the SB link... this is a great rate at this hotel, a true 50% off deal. :)
  14. HOTWIRE now lists San Pedro as a zone in it's own right (rather than just Long Beach). There are some great rates on a 3 star property listed as San Pedro (Fitness, Pool, Restaurant, Business Centre, Laundry, High Speed Internet) from just $69... but I can't ID it as I don't see San Pedro listed in the Hotwire hotel list. Any ideas on a) the property, and :) if San Pedro is 'new' as a zone? Thanks!
  15. Went up to $70 at 3* level with no success Got 2.5* at $50 on first bid at Springhill Suites This appears to be the first time this hotel has been reported as won on PL for several months - I'm happy with it, a suite, pool, free breakfast and even an airport shuttle. For a quick one night stay - what more do you want?! Used SavingsBarn link to view property
  16. Started at $100 and worked up, rebid offer at $127 which declined, successful at $130
  17. Nothing for 4* right up to $75. Started at $45 for 3* and was succesful on first bid - maybe should have tried even lower?! Looks like a decent hotel, and certainly a reasonable price. Used link.
  18. Wow, what a pleasant surprise! My partner had been trying on PL without much luck, and today went up to $89 for a 4* using the rebid zones, and was rejected. I logged in and was shocked to get the Omni on my first bid of $90. Used link.
  19. Tried bidding using SavingsBarn link at $50 and worked up, rejected all the way to $65 with no counter offer. Finally tried $67 and was surprised to be accepted for the Westin, LAX. I've stayed here several times before and am very satisfied with this rate.
  20. Further to my posts over on the PL forum, having trouble for 13 and 14 Nov in NYC. Have a hotel in NJ booked as back-up, but still shooting for NYC itself. There is a hotel listed on Hotwire: NYC Midtown Central, 3 Star, Restaurant, High Speed Internet, Fitness Centre. There are no posted hotels on the pinned list that exactly match - I'm wondering if it's maybe the Club Quarters that's been downgraded from 3.5 to 3*? Otherwise, maybe the Novotel - but the amenities don't match this one either... Any ideas? The hotel for same dates, 3* NYC Times Square/Theatre District is Boutique, and I'm guessing the Panorama - which I'm a bit leary of... Thanks for any advice! S
  21. Yes - there is a water taxi, but apparently it's operation is very limited. Reviewers of this hotel have said that it runs only once or twice an hour, and only during the core part of the day with no evening service etc. I'll keep you posted on my luck (or otherwise) with the Hyatt!
  22. Thanks for the replies - I really appreciate it. I was surprised at the rates but I didn't break down the dates (good tip!), and it's interesting to see that what appears to be the Hyatt is less than half price on the Monday night vs. the Tuesday night.... Ironically, it's the Tuesday night (14th Nov) I need the most... I'm familiar with Candlewood as I used to do some work for them... they're perfectly acceptable but was really excited at the possibility of the Hyatt. I do have a back-up reservation at the Sheraton Hudson, but it's $175/nt AND using my SPG points in conjunctin with that as well, so it's hardly a 'steal'! I might try again for the Hyatt (Doubletree) in a few days or so... hopefully some inventory is dumped for that night!
  23. I'm trying to get 1 or 2 nights in Jersey City or NYC for 13th Nov 2 nights, or Nov 14th 1 night. I've gone up to $340 with no success for 4 stars in all the 16 bid zones for my preferred areas in NYC. I'm very happy to stay in Jersey City, but here I've gone up as far as $130 for a 3 star with no luck. Is there something happening these dates which would explain why it's so problematic to get a PL win? Any info or tips appreciated, S
  24. Got the Marriot Pinacle in downtown Vancouver, Started at $100 and rejected, Added rebid zone and moved to $110 and counter offer of $22 more Added rebid zone and moved to $115 and counter offer of $22 more Final bid of $120, and accepted.
  25. This hotel is great, stayed here a few times. The rooms have kitchen facilities, I believe there are both 'studio' style and '1 bedroom apartment' style. Either way, very good quality, and they used to do a nice free breakfast buffet (not sure if still do?). There's a large hot tub/hot pool outside too - great for relaxing at end of a hard day. This is a great price for this hotel, it's really more like 3 / 3.5 star quality not 2.5.
