  1. Followed your directions and was not successful thanks - Noela
  2. I bid the highest in the Jersey city area - so that must be 3*, and that was my only bid for the day. Really, I have no preference for either place. I am willing to pay $45 max for one night. Any rating between 2.5* and 3* - should be ok - like the Country Inn Suites in EWR area. cheers - Noela
  3. I bid for the highest #3.5* in the JC area, and tried only once - $40. It tried to look for a hotel for me, and couldn't find one, hence sent me the usual email saying your bid was rejected. I came back in added Newark airport area, adding a 2.5* zone, and suggested $41 - it warned me that it was not going to be acceptable, so I did not go ahead with the bid. thanks for the reminder to not follow others strategies. cheers - N
  4. Hi, I am visiting Newark, NJ for two days - starting tomorrow. I will love to stay in the airport area preferably at a 2.5* hotel like the country inn suites. I have already tried bidding once, following a strategy posted earlier. I started with Jersey City area, at a minimum of 40 and was rejected. I am willing to pay about 37-40 per night. What strategy should I follow now? sincerely, Noela
  5. Hi, wanted a hotel for tonight in Baltimore area....i don't even mind a 1* - but all my bids up to about 45 are getting rejected. is it because i am doing same day boooking? what strategies will you suggest ? cheers - Noela
  6. Hi, I am interested in renting a car for a week starting tuesday 24 May to 31st Many (tuesday). The difficulty is I will have to drive the car to Canada, and in the past, only Budget has allowed me to take the car across into Canada. Can i bid for Budget through priceline or hotwire ? thanks - Noela.
  7. Hi all, I had posted in NJ forum for help, but my guests (whom I will pick up from the bus stop at Port Authority) would rather stay and tour that area, instead of travelling to Jersey City and back on sunday for departure. So we are looking for properties around 100 - 140 range. what would you suggest ? thanks - Noela
  8. Thereuare, thanks for the suggestions...none of them worked. any more thoughts? /Noea
  9. thanks, i will give it a short, and let you know best - Noela
  10. i would go with your suggested zones - those areas look nicer, particularly, the jersey city. i would't want my totals and taxes to exceed $80 for one night - so pushing it to 55 or 60 is possible. cheers - Noela
  11. Hi Thereuare, I think a 3* is preferable, though a 2.5* would do. my bidding limit is around $45 to $50. is it better to bid now or wait until sometime next week? cheers -Noela
  12. Thereuare, We have a car, and i know the area quite well, and i agree it is not nice an area. My guests are arriving from Albany to Port Authority, and we need a place to spend the day, look around, and spend the night. We want to be close to movie theatres, and some quiet areas such as the statue of liberty area. what area will you suggest ....Jersey city area? thanks - Noela
  13. Hi, I am visiting Newark on saturday, April 23 for one night. I want to stay in Elizabeth - Airport area. What bidding strategies should i use? Secondly, what are the interesting things to do outdoors in the Newark area? /Noela
  14. Thereuare, thanks - you are right - it is cheaper elsewhere - i got one at southwest.com (evening flights, in/out) for 96$ tax inclusive. thanks for an informative website. best - Noela
  15. Hi, I intend visiting Albany (from Baltimore) between April 8 - 10. Current deals are around 160$. How cheap can i get this, and if how should i go about bidding for it? best - Noela
  16. Thereuare, just curious... why do you suggest an increase in a re-bid for a lower rated zone, as you did in my case and this gentleman's. is to guaranteee a higher rated choice - that is by bidding higher, you could get bumped into a higher zone? cheers..Noela
  17. Thereuare, just curious... why do you suggest an increase in a re-bid for a lower rated zone, as you did in my case and this gentleman's. is to guaranteee a higher rated choice - that is by bidding higher, you could get bumped into a higher zone? cheers..Noela
  18. actually, all correct, except the bid amount was 37: here is the process. 1st Attempt: 35 at Mormout Junction - rejected; raised it to 40 it was still considered low, saying the average hotel costs around 120. 2nd Attempt - change zone to a different area - (which had only up to 3** hotel) and bid again at 35 - they wanted an increase. i raised it to 37 and it was accepted. But then the hotel i got was not in the second area, but in -- the Mormouth Junction (where i had my first bid). hope it is clearer now .. if i add one more nite, thursday night (3/17), would it be at the same price ($37) ? /Noela
  19. Thereuare, Thanks for the response. Ok, first I bid $35 for Princeton - Monmouth Junction and was rejected - they wanted an increase of $9. Then i followed the strategies adviced here - close the browser, went back into priceline, and selected one of the adjoining areas Langhorne - Trenton - Levittown as well as South Brunswick - Cranbury areas had up to 3* upscale hotels, compared to my original area which had up to 4 stars. So i bid re-bid $30 in Princeton - Monmouth Junction, was told it was too low, then increased it to 35, i think, and it was accepted - with taxes/fees, the total came to $49. -- did i do it right? Re the dates, originally, i was going to stay from thursday night to saturday morning- but my presentation had to be re-scheduled - hence the change in dates from friday night. But now, I wish i had booked from the thursday night so i could visit some friends around. Is it possible to have it adjusted? cheers. /Noela
  20. got it for 35, after rejecting counter offer and rebid thanks, theuare. /NN
  21. Thanks -- cheapest price is of prime importance; Followed by value, then Quality. BTW...i need to be close to "Dumon Court" area. But anywhere within 15-30 minutes driving distance is ok. Thanks very much - Noela
  22. Hi, I plan to visit Princeton, NJ from March 17 - 19 (2 nights). What hotels should i bid on -- i am comfortable with **/*** thanks - Noela
  23. Hi, I must admit, i have done Ebay purchases, but never got the guts to do travel bidding - so this afternoon i made my first attempt. I'm going there in two weeks along with a friend just for a brief sightseeing... I realized that priceline had great hotels in the downtown area. i went to priceline and bid $40 for a zone 3 hotel in downtown Toronto. it came back rejected with a counter offer of an additonal $12. I raised it to 52, and got it. Here are the details: Marriott Toronto Downtown Eaton Centre Downtown Toronto 525 Bay Street Toronto, Ontario M5G 2L2 416-597-9200 Check-In Date: Fri, Mar 25, 2005 Check-In Time: After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Sat, Mar 26, 2005 Check-Out Time: 12:00 PM Your Offer Price: $52.00 (US dollars) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $52.00 (US dollars) Taxes & Service Fees: $12.13 (US dollars) Total Charges: $64.13 (US dollars) I know Toronto very well, having lived there for 10 yrs - there is a convenient city underground parking nearby for next to nothing. so i think it is a great deal - the hotels quality rooms start at about $140 Cdn ($112 USD), hence I'm paying close to 2/3rds of what i will pay retail. Well, if not, please let me know how I could do better next time. Your web site is an inspiration - thanks for the very good work. best - Noela
  24. Hi., I'm going from Baltimore - Tororont on March 25th, returning on 26th. I would want to stay in Toronto for the night of 25th, returning the ff day. I'm new to this, and just learning the ropes on bidding - but I realized that some people on this board are able to make an educated or lucky guess on the hotel that is being offered. How can you do that? And any other place on this board to get such tips. cheers - Noela
