  1. Hello all... I have never used Priceline Express before, so need a little guidance. I am looking at 10-15 to 10-18 just about anywhere in Manhattan, and this came up... 4 stars in the Downtown - Financial District Area for $120 a night. Seems like a good deal. The only amenities it lists are fitness center and business center. Looking at the Priceline Express wins, could I probably assume that this is the Doubletree? Also, do you guys think it would be a bad idea to stay in the Financial District over the weekend (perhaps everything nearby would be closed and that's why the price is so low for a 4 star hotel?). Thanks... Maynard
  2. Used link on this site to start the Priceline process. (Looked at the Priceline Express Deals) Any ideas on what this hotel may be? I looked at the pinned Priceline page for Palm Springs, and the only 2 star is the Extended Stay America near the airport. But... they don't claim to have a fitness center, so I guess that's not the place. $42 a night for 3-24 to 3-26-2015, A great deal if it's a decent place... maybe I could knock off $5 by using Name Your Own Price? Pool Internet Fitness Center Free breakfast Free parking Thanks for any guesses...
  3. I tried changing rooms, but the front desk claimed they were fully booked and couldn't change me. I spent half an hour with Priceline and they called the front desk twice, who gave them the same story. I probably got the worst room in the hotel (probably reserved for Priceline customers). I will try to get a refund next time, but I doubt they'll go along with that. It's all part of the business model. I forgot to add that the electric outlet didn't work in the bathroom, so I had to use my electric shaver at the desk. A definite one star hotel.
  4. The first bid I did was for three nights, and later, I realized I needed one more night. I bid again in this area before I actually checked into the Carson hotel. There is no way I would have bid for this place again if I had already known what it was like. When I did the bid, I assumed I would receive the same Carson location, but was surprised that I got the place in Torrance. At that time, I was aggravated that I would have to change hotels for just that one night, but I was so happy to leave Carson that I ended up being happy about the difference. At any rate, the ESA Torrance Del Amo Circle was SO much nicer... it was definitely a nice 2-star place, not what I consider a 1-star place (like the ESA Carson I was at before). I have written scathing reviews on Trip Advisor, and responded to the e-mail survey I received from Priceline and ESA about the Carson property. I won't bid a 2-star again in this area for fear of getting the Carson property again.
  5. Priceline Express showed what I assumed to be the Extended Stay America - Los Angeles - Carson at $49, so I took $5 off and won on the first bid. I was surprised when I actually got assigned the Extended Stay America Los Angeles - Torrance - Del Amo Circle. Thank goodness I didn't get the Extended Stay Carson again! Used the Priceline link on this site.
  6. This is the worst Priceline hotel I've ever gotten. I don't recommend that people bid for a 2-star in this zone, for fear that they might end up here. So many things wrong: no turntable in the microwave oven, tub drains so slowly that there's 4" of standing water by the time your shower is done, dried food on the desk chair, hole in the window screen, noisy from the freeway on one side of the hotel & the major street on the other, they claimed only smoking rooms were available even though they told a walk-in customer otherwise. This is just like a Motel 6 but with a kitchenette... no way this is a two star hotel. Not even worth the $47 I bid... I can't wait to leave!
  7. Used the PRICELINE link on this site. Started bidding at $35, changed zones, changed dates... everything. When I had bid $41 on a different bid, they said if I raised my bid to $47, I could bid again for free. I didn't bid $47 (but I guess I should have). I changed dates again, and finally bid $47 and got the room. Apparently only saved $3 off the PRICELINE EXPRESS deal, but every little bit helps. Extended Stay America - Los Angeles - Carson 401 E Albertoni St., Carson, CA
  8. That sounds like a great deal.... only $39 a night at a hotel that goes for over $100 a night on their web site. Even free parking! Hope you liked the hotel... leave a review!
  9. OK, I updated the Atlanta trip from last year. I will be sure to use the links for searching as well. No need to research this one... I am going to try to find a place that doesn't charge a resort fee. What looks like a good deal ends up not being one, because of the resort fees these places are charging. I wonder what they're going to charge us for next.... wear & tear fee on the door hinges for opening the door to the room?
  10. I ended up not making this trip. One of my friends was in Atlanta on business & I was trying to figure out a cheap way to hang out with him while he was there. The trip ended up being too expensive overall so I didn't go.
  11. Please help ID this hotel. I looked on the Hotwire list for Vegas Northwest, and only a 2* hotel came up. 3* Las Vegas Northwest Area $20 per night! 70% recommended Amenities: Free Parking, Casino, Pool, Restaurant, Business Center The dates I checked were July 23-25. Thanks for any input, and I *promise* to use your links when I book! Everybody have a great weekend!
  12. OK, I may try PRICELINE to get something cheaper, but will report back if I go ahead & get this one on HOTWIRE. Thanks very much for your input.
  13. Hi, I clicked both of the links. I re-checked the details of the hotel. Now it's up to $55 a night, and here is the complete list of amenities (I could swear there were only 4 amenities yesterday....) Free Parking <amenity names only please... not descriptions> Complimentary Breakfast <amenity names only please... not descriptions> Free Internet <amenity names only please... not descriptions> Laundry Facilities (self-service) <amenity names only please... not descriptions> High-Speed Internet Access Guestrooms are equipped with high-speed Internet access; an extra charge may apply. Accessible bathroom Raised toilet, hand-held shower and grab bars at the tub and toilet Handicapped parking <amenity names only please... not descriptions> Thanks!
  14. Please help identify this hotel... sounds like a great deal.... $53 per night 2.5 stars Buckhead area hotel Recommended in 85% of Hotwire reviews Free parking Complimentary breakfast Free internet Self-service laundry June 9-14, 2012 I looked thru the list & didn't see something that matched this one. Thanks!
  15. I don't know how people have been getting these $20 and below rates through Priceline at Orlando airport. I have been trying for 10 days now... started bidding at $12 and have worked my way up to $26. Anyway, at this point it's just cheaper to book directly at EZ Rental Cars (even though I don't like them much). Better luck next time!
  16. Hotwire responded to my complaint. Interesting that they only responded to the part about the restaurant not being on the premises (this was the least of my problems with the property). They may remove the "restaurant" amenity from the property description, so keep that in mind when booking a 2.5* in Palm Springs. Here's the response from them: Dear Maynard, This email is regarding your hotel booking in Palm Springs, Hotwire Itinerary Number 57850xxxxxx. Thank you for contacting us to express your concerns about your stay at the Quality Inn in Palm Springs. I regret the restaurant amenity provided by the hotel was not to your satisfaction. Customer feedback helps us ensure our properties continue to meet the high quality standards we expect from all of our partners. Please accept our apologies along with 25 HotDollars, which we added to your Hotwire account. You can use HotDollars to book any flight, discounted car rental, hotel reservation or land package on the Hotwire Web site! Each one is equivalent to one U.S. dollar in value and is available for one year from the date of issuance; Your HotDollars will expire August 26, 2009.
  17. Here's a cut and paste of the e-mail I just sent them: The property description said "Property offers at least one restaurant on the premises." There was no restaurant on the premises. There is a Carrows restaurant across the parking lot, but isn't connected with the hotel in any way. The Ichi Ban restaurant is further down the street at the corner. Both restaurants just happen to be nearby, but aren't affiliated with the hotel in any way. The hotel is rated as 2.5 stars, and deserves no more than 2 stars. It's just a baby-step up from a Motel 6. In fact, I just read your descriptions of your hotel ratings, and this property sounds just like a 2-star, not a 2.5-star. Despite the fact that right now is low seaon in Palm Springs (and the hotel was practically empty), they tried to stick me in rooms that were highly undesireable. These were rooms right next to the lobby, or right next to the house laundry facility, or right above the workout room, or with the window facing a wall 4 feet away, so no view whatsoever. I can understand that if the hotel were full of guests who paid a lot more, I would get one of those rooms, but the hotel only had about 20 cars in the parking lot at midnight. They list local calls as being free, but they tried to charge me $4.60 each, for 3 calls I made (to restaurants within 2 miles of the hotel). One of the calls was never even answered. I had to haggle with the front desk clerk for a good 15 minutes at checkout to get them to remove the charges. And maybe most importantly, I paid $39 + taxes and fees for this room. Immediately after learning the name of the hotel, I looked at Hotels.com and the Quality Inn web site, and learned that I could have gotten the same room for $40.50 plus tax. That's only a $1.50 difference. Considering that you also added fees in addition to the room tax, I ended up paying more for the room than I would have paid going direct to the hotel, or booking through Hotels.com. I would like to believe your advertising that talks about big savings, but it was not accurate in this case. I've booked other rooms on Hotwire before and was generally satisfied, but this time I was not. If I have one more experience like this, I won't consider using your service again.
  18. There are 2 restaurants across the parking lot, but they are not connected to the hotel in any way. You must go outside to get to them. I will write a full review when I get home, but I do not recommend that people take this hotel on HOTWIRE. I just felt uneasy there. Also when I checked out this morning they tried to charge me $4.60 each for 3 local calls, even though they say that local calls are free. The places I called were about 2 miles from the hotel. One of the 3 numbers didn't even answer. After talking with the desk clerk for about 10 minutes, she agreed to remove the charges.
  19. 2.5* 8/14 - 8/15/2008 One night $39 + taxes & fees Central Palm Springs Amenities listed - Fitness Center, Pool, Restaurant, Laundry, High Speed Internet Quality Inn (I didn't see this one on the BetterBidding web site... maybe it's new) 1269 E. Palm Canyon Dr., Palm Springs, CA, US, 92264 8/14/08 price was $39 on HOTWIRE. Looked at Hotels dot com, and the Quality Inn Web Site, and the regular price was $40.50, so I saved a big $1.50 booking through Hotwire. The price is $58 on Hotwire for tomorrow night (Friday), and I may book it if everything turns out OK here (and stay an extra day). I am in the hotel right now, and it seems OK. There *is* a fitness room, but it's tiny and only has a universal station and one treadmill. The pool is nice. 2 restaurants adjacent (Carrows and Ichi Ban Japanese). High-speed internet is free, as are local calls and parking. No resort fee. Front desk said the reservation came through as a non-smoking queen, but a few minutes of talking to him, he gave me a room with two beds near the pool. He tried to put me in rooms that were near the lobby, or over the fitness center. Since Courtyard by Marriott hotels are usually 2.5*, I think this place is closer to 2*, since it has exterior hallways, and it's an older place as well. Everything works in the room, but it's nothing fancy. Will leave review later on after checkout. Used the HOTWIRE link to make reservation.
  20. Looking at the regular Priceline web site, all the hotels are either at the airport, San Isidro, downtown Lima or Miraflores. Lima is a huge city, and I would not bid on anything, as you have no idea which neighborhood you'll be in. Priceline really needs to break Lima into different districts. IMHO, Miraflores is the best neighborhood, which mosts tourists would want to be in, or San Isidro (more for business). In Miraflores you can walk to everything, and you are near the ocean. The Delfines is in San Isidro, which is a nice area, but not near the ocean, and nothing really touristy to do. The Melia is also in San Isidro. But the Sheraton is near the historic Lima downtown (which isn't horribly dangerous, but not nearly as nice as San Isidro or Miraflores. You run too much of a risk bidding here, unless you really don't care where you are. I've been to Lima 5 times, and I will only stay in Miraflores.
  21. PLEASE write a review of this hotel after your stay. I looked at Trip Advisor and it's obvious that the hotel staff is writing fake positive reviews to counter the negative ones.
  22. I checked in at 330 pm, so I thought I would get a decent room. The clerk claimed to only have 3 non-smoking rooms in the whole place, even though the parking lot was nearly empty. Even that night at 1100 pm, the parking lot was only 30% full. They gave me the mother of all "Priceline rooms"... the room was directly across from the elevator AND the 2 maid's closets. Also, on each side of the elevator was a wall 10 feet long, so the room had no view and was very dark, even with the curtains open. I've gotten this type of treatment at other Extended Stay properties before, and I can't help but believe that it's part of their training to the staff: give Priceline customers the least desireable rooms, even when the hotel isn't full. Since the doors at this ESA open to the outside, you really can't have the curtains open anyway (because of the walkway right next to your window). They realize that these rooms will have noise issues, so they installed 2 sets of windows that can't be opened. It does mask the noise somewhat, and with the air conditioner fan on, I didn't get woken up. The maids get their carts at 9;30 a.m. The room itself was impeccable and I really can't complain about anything in the room. The bed was very comfortable and everything worked and was clean. I got the room for $32 on Priceline, which is much less than the $75 they normally charge. Location is good if you want to be in eastern Tucson, but it's far from Interstate 10. Typical ESA housekeeping norms apply here; you only get one housekeeping visit per week... no daily maid service. Full kitchen with dishes, pots, pans and silverware. Cable TV service is limited, and there are 4 ESPN stations. Couldn't one of the 4 be traded for a business channel?

  25. Holiday Inn Amarillo-I-40, TX 1911 I-40 E. at Ross/Osage St. Amarillo, Texas 79102 (806) 372-8741 This seemed more like a 2.5 * to me, but I guess that's a matter of opinion. It was OK, but nothing special.
