  1. I guess I'm seeing other postings for 4* hotels in the same area for $140 at different dates and am super jealous. You are right, it's a busy time of year. The HOTWIRE property has fitness, pool, internet and restaurant. Sounds like Holiday Inn Midtown 57th St, according to the list here, which is a 2.5* on PRICELINE, yes? thereuare, would you mind giving me a strategy for 4*, 3.5* and 4* from $190-250, for MTW, TS, MTE, ESB, MSG, CPS, (zones MTE and CTE only in 4*)? You've helped me so much already and I appreciate it. I'll book the HOTWIRE hotel if it doesn't work, unless you think bidding at 2.5* would be a better idea. :) Thank you again so much.
  2. Whoops. Forgot to post that I used the PRICELINE link from this forum. :)
  3. Got the Millennium Hotel Durham for $42 (started at $35, raised it $2 each bid using rebidding zones until accepted). I just canceled my previous Hilton reservation that I had booked at $115. Great savings! We are going in for the Ringo Starr concert. I'm happy we got such a great deal!
  4. Priceline doesn't like me. Rejected. All of them. Guess its not in the stars for me to go to NYC. Must have some crazy convention or something going on those days. I find it strange that Priceline says the median price for a 3* is $322, yet my bid for $200 was rejected. There is a 3* Midtown Central hotel on HOTWIRE for $236, so I wonder if I'm just really close and a few bucks off of winning a hotel from PRICELINE. Any suggestions? :) Again, it's not imperative we go, and I really appreciate everything this board has done for me up to this point.
  5. Actually, after looking at the 2.5* hotels that are on the known list, I think they meet our needs. So if you have time to do a strategy for me for 3* up to $190 as well as 2.5* too, and we'll see what that gets us. After that, I think I'll just start over once every 24 hours with the 4*s down to 2.5 until 2 weeks before the dates. I don't think I want to go over $200 after all. If we don't go, we don't go. Thanks again so much! This website is a dream!
  6. Fail. :) I did everything in the strategy to a T. No rooms for those dates in those zones 3.5* or more for under $200 (I am using the $10 bonus cash on top of all the bids). Mayor's daughter must be getting married or something. Would you mind doing a strategy for me for 3*? After that, would you suggest raising my top price or dropping to 2.5? I didn't want to go over $200 but I could try up to 250 I think, as long as I don't tell my husband. Ha. "Honey, what do you think about going back to NYC if I can get a room really cheap?" Again, thanks so much. :)
  7. :) Thank you so much. Yes, ok. Top bid $190. 4* in (by preference) MTW, TS, MTE, ESB, MSG, CPS, then (removing zones MTE and CTE) 3.5*, then 3* . As I understand it, even if 3*s in MTE and CTE aren't terribly far away and/or don't have really small rooms I still run the risk of getting a higher rated hotel and could conceivably end up with one of those. I also understand there is a chance at being offered a new hotel not on our 'known' list. I'm cool with that. In fact, it's kind of exciting to see what I will get! Again, I really, really appreciate it! I'll let you guys know what success I have. You have helped me so much. :)
  8. AH! ok...I get it. Here I was thinking I knew what I was doing! Ok, I would love your help with a bidding strategy! My cap is $190 and the lowest * rating I'd go for is 3 (right now, I'll try for 2.5* in a month or two, I'd just like nicer if possible), but would like 3.5 or 4 if possible. My zones, by preference, would be MTW, TS, MTE, ESB, MSG, CPS. You guys are fantastic, do you know that? Thanks so much!
  9. I just bid in all zones for a 4*, dropped it to a 3.5* with a bidding price of $134 (with $10 bonus cash) and was rejected. I figured I'd add $2 a day up to $190, then start over again at $120 with 3* hotels, quitting 2 weeks before the date. It's not imperative that we go, it would be nice but if we don't get our price I have to stop somewhere. It's like gambling. I have a max bid. :) I have seen on the forum suggestions for bidding on one zone, then adding one more, then one more, etc and keep going. Why is this better than bidding for all 6 zones at once if the zone doesn't really matter?
  10. You can rebid if you add (but not change) areas and/or star rating. Why can't you rebid with a higher price? You would think this would be enough of a change to let you rebid instead of waiting 24 hours. Also, I'm looking for a hotel in NYC currently and after reading these boards, I don't want to go less than 3.5 * on a MTE room, but am willing to go to a 3* or even 2.5* if necessary in other areas. How do I remove MTE from the list when I rebid at a lower star rating? The areas chosen in the previous bid are 'unclickable' and grayed out. Thanks!
  11. More than likely--we are coming up on Monday afternoon and will attend shows Tuesday and 2 shows on Wednesday. We just came back from a 4 night in May. I'm kicking myself for spending $270 a night at the Belevedere, and I've used PRICELINE before but somehow I just kind of forgot because it's been a while! The week before is Fashion Week so I don't know why the rates are so high, but I have the cap and just won't go over it. I'm going to expand out to MSG (great suggestion AaronJB!), ESB and CPS, as well as the other 3 I've been trying for. Using the New York Hotels list for PRICELINE I scoped out a few that were listed in those areas and lots say they are within walking distance to Times Square so I think that expanding my area will help. I'll let you guys know what happens when it does! Thanks for the advice. This is a great forum. I'll of course use the support link on this website. Thanks again!
  12. Hello darlings! I've been lurking for a few days so I thought I'd join. I've been trying to bid on a hotel near Broadway theatres from Sept 20-23, no luck yet but I'm bidding low. My strategy--bidding on 3* hotels, up the bid once a day by $2, capping off at $190 and then starting over adding in 2.5* hotels. My bids of $125, 130, and 132 have all been rejected. I have the $10 bonus cash per night adding on to them too, thanks to this forum. (and I've been using the links from this site to Priceline for bidding). I have 3 months and we will take the train from Virginia, which I haven't booked yet. I figured if I couldn't get a 2.5* hotel for under $190 we just wouldn't go. This is an extra jaunt, you know? I've been choosing TS, MTW and MTE but I'm thinking MTE may put us too far away. We want to be within walking distance to most of the theatres (for us? 10 blocks is ok, we know how compact NYC is), and have stayed at the Belevedere before (which is listed in MTW). Also, would it be better to try for a 4* first, then lower to 3.5* and then to 3* on rebids? Or is bidding at 3* going to possibly get us a higher rated hotel? I've read 7 pages of the general questions forum and can't seem to decide which I should do. Looking at other travel websites it seems that the prices for these 3 nights are higher than normal. It's the week after Fashion Week, and there may be something going on too, but does anyone know why regular rates seem to be in the 400s rather than the 300s or so for that week? Any suggestions on if I need to change things up appreciated, and if I should continue to try to get a hotel in MTE. We do not want to have to take the subway or a cab to our hotel. Much thanks!
