  1. Thanks for the bidding strategy. I used it, but I was unsuccessful today. I'll try again next weekend. Jane--it wouldn't hurt at all for you to start your own thread and ask for your own bidding strategy. These guys are here to help you, and your situation is different from mine. You can ask for exactly what zones you want, they may be different from mine, and you are looking at a weekend but I'm staying mid-week. Plus, the longer you wait, the more the rates may rise. They could fall too, but I wouldn't take the chance. I made a reservation at a Comfort Inn on 44th street with my AAA number and got a pretty good rate. It's a 2.5*, so I'm trying for something nicer if not cheaper. I can cancel it up to the day before. It will be a fine room if we don't get a Priceline win, but I'm still trying because there is a lot of fun in the game. :)
  2. I doubt I will be successful at the 4* level too, but I figured I'd give it a shot by bidding once a week until late August, then adding 3.5* and 3* as I get closer. I do have a room reserved but if I could get something nicer, even if not much cheaper, I'd be very happy. The room I have reserved has good reviews on Trip Advisor so all would not be lost if I didn't get a successful Priceline room. I'll take my time and try, it will be fun! So, yes, CPS and MTE can be included at the 4* level. So, a bidding strategy for up to $190 starting at, oh, $120 or so with TS, MTW, MTE, ESB, CPS for 4*, then 3.5* for zones TS, MTW, ESB and MSG. Thank you!
  3. Whew! found my post from a year ago: Priceline New York City this is what you told me then that I'd like to consider: "At the 4* level all the 'known' MTE properties should suit your needs just fine, but at the 3.5* level there are hotels which enter the mix which may be a bit far east for your liking... namely the Millennium UN. You should look at the location of this property and determine if you want to include this zone in your 3.5* and under bidding. Likewise, at the 3.5* level in the CPS is the Hudson hotel which has notoriously small rooms... otherwise it's a decent hotel with generally good reviews, but you need to expect and be prepared for a very small room. For some the room is just a place to sleep and it's fine, for others they prefer to avoid this zone at this star level." My needs are the same as my post last year. So, here is what I asked for that gave me the great bidding strategy last time (even though we didn't go after all): Top bid $190. 4* in (by preference) MTW, TS, MTE, ESB, MSG, CPS, then (removing zones MTE and CTE) 3.5*, then 3* . THANK YOU!
  4. Hi there. I'm requesting a bidding strategy please. We have a cancelable 2.5* Comfort Inn booked at $224/night but would like a higher star rating and/or for less money if possible. I have lots of time and I will try the strategy once a week. I asked a year ago for a strategy around the same time frame (checking to make sure every time what my re-bid zones were) but we ended up not going. Can I still use this strategy, or should I change it? It was a good one, but things may have changed slightly. Would like to try for a 4* until mid-August or so, then will add 3.5* and, maybe early September, I may add 3* just for the heck of it. Our top price is $190 (due to the taxes and fees, we figured out that would be our max to bid per night). Zones we'd like: TS, MTW, MTE, MSG, ESB and CPS (CPS 4* only, and our last choice). We do not want to stay Downtown, Chelsea, UES, UWS, Queens, Long Island or Hell's Kitchen. Thanks so much! I'll post my results and non results, and will use the PRICELINE link through this website. We are also periodically checking Hotwire, using the link here, too.
  5. the price, rating and area is attractive I have PLENTY of time, and am bidding (using the links here) on PRICELINE or checking HOTWIRE once a week or so. I have a Comfort Inn reserved, but it's 2.5 * and I'd like to get a better star rating at least. Thanks! I will keep an eye out.
  6. 3.5 * Sept 13-17, 2011 $204 Midtown Central area Hotel (0.5 - 1.5 mi from city center) Suite, Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness Center, Business Center, Internet Access, Kitchenette This sounds like a really nice place, but couldn't find anything close on your list. Any ideas? We have a 2.5* Comfort Inn pre-booked (and cancel-able) room for these dates at $224 per night. We are bidding on Priceline once a week for 4*s until mid-May or so, but saw this and it may be a really good deal. Thanks.
  7. Well...we can't go now after all anyway. So I'd like to close this thread. Thank you!
  8. We'd like to go to DC for 2 nights on May 14th and 15th. We'd like a hotel in a safe area in the heart of the city near the MetroRail. We would consider an outlaying area, but would rather try for the city first. If successful, we will be taking Amtrak in, so we will arrive at Union Station. Our budget is trying to find a 4* for less than $120 (of course, the cheaper the better!). We are willing to go to a 3* if we can't get something higher. So, in order of preference: city near MetroRail, 4* for up to $120, add 3* for up to $120. If not successful add outlaying areas near MetroRail for 4* for up to $120, add 3* for up to $120. Thank you!
  9. 'kay, thanks! Will just ask at check in like planned, if we don't get it, we're cool. :)
  10. We've booked a room at the NYNY in Vegas in April and I've looked all over this board for the answer, to no avail. I booked it for 2 people, but what type of room will be reserved? I'm assuming it's their most basic room (listed as the Skyline Room, traditional accommodation), is this correct? I will ask for a complimentary upgrade when we check in, which can be given at the whim of any Vegas hotel clerk, but am wondering if it's possible we were booked into a higher grade of room? We are fine with the traditional accommodation if that's what we get. :) Also, at the time we booked the room through Hotwire, the rates now are cheaper for a Park Avenue room (next level up from the Skyline) now, and we are wondering if we should have just waited and booked directly through the hotel. Since we are paying more than the next room level up, in the long run, we were wondering what we are going to end up in. Could I call Hotwire or the resort and ask what type of room I am reserved for, and ask for an upgrade based on price currently listed on their website? We've never used Hotwire before. Boy, I hope I explained this ok. I read through it and it reads like mud. Can't seem to explain it better somehow.
  11. Whoops. It was the middle of the night, forgot. I did use the HOTWIRE links through this website. Amenities: This hotel features the following amenities: Casino, Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, Golf Nearby, Spa Services
  12. Listed for $99 currently for my dates of April 18-22, 2011 Need help identifying 5* Las Vegas Strip South Smoke Free, Fitness Center, Pool, Restaurant, Spa. Resort Fee. Nothing on your list has a 5* on Strip South, so I'm curious. Great price.
  13. Confirmed. We are going April 18-22, 2011. :) Booked NYNY for $65 a night. Hotel rate per night: 65.00 Nights: 4 Rooms: 1 Subtotal: $260.00 Tax recovery charges and fees: $41.99
  14. Hi! Bidding strategy please. Hubby and I going to Vegas in March or April 2011 (dates not determined, he has to sign up for vacation any day now and it depends on seniority). Looking for a 5* up to $145 on the North Strip. If unattainable, we would then like to try for a 4* on the North Strip up to $75. If no luck after a week or so, I am willing to up the price. Seems like the Palazzo or Treasure Island are the most popular wins here, and these seem to be good prices based on previous win posts in this forum. I wouldn't mind the South Strip but just do not want the Westin. Still, I know there is risk of getting a hotel that isn't listed on this forum, and we're cool with that possibility, but the Westin seems to be won quite often so we'll avoid that area unless we are desperate, but I think we won't be. Thanks!
  15. Hey there. Just wanted to post--we ended up not going. I wanted to post that we gave up and realized that the reason why they were so expensive those dates was because of the UN conference. Going to ask for bidding help for Vegas in the spring now, wanted to give an update before I did that. Thanks!
  16. Have tried up to $225 bid on 4*, 3.5* and 3* hotels. Have tried up to $205 bid on 2.5* hotels. There just doesn't seem to be a hotel beyond rack rates for Sept 20-23. I'm keeping an eye on TravelZoo and will try a bidding session once a week as long as the price of Amtrak is what it is currently, they tend to stay low until two weeks before travel, but for now I'm giving up on spending tons of time bidding and rebidding. Just wanted to let you guys have an update.
  17. Post 12 is up to $190 but yes, you did give me a strategy for up to $250--I guess my brain is set on not bidding over $200--but I'll see what this Saturdays bidding gives me. I've been stopping at the $190 bid doing it once a week. Again, I'll use the PRICELINE links and let you guys know if/when I'm successful. Thanks!
  18. Thereuare, If you have time, would you mind redoing my bidding strategy for 4* and 3.5* up to $210? I want to see if raising my price a bit may help. There is one person on the calendar for 2 of my 3 nights staying in a 4* for $205 who bid and won last February, and another staying in approximately the same dates who got one for $210. I have a feeling I'm so close. I've also tried to bid on a MTW 2.5* hoping to get the Belvedere (yes, I know, it's dangerous and you aren't supposed to bid hoping to get a certain hotel) and have gone up to $139 with no win. Thanks so much! t.
  19. For what I paid for it (bid $42, after taxes around $55) and for 1 night, it was a great deal. But if I had paid rack rate for it, I wouldn't have been very happy. This is a 3.5* according to Priceline, but it should be a 2.5*at least. The staff was nice, the area was secluded and quiet, and no bedbug evidence and the sheets were clean, but that's about it. The fixtures are old and worn, some with rust and wear, the sinks had old steel handles that didn't turn easily (or in the same direction). The door hinge on our bathroom door had so much rust it took some pressure to close. There was some mildew on the wall and the wallpaper was peeling everywhere. The carpet had some staining. The TV was very old. I don't expect a flatscreen but I do expect something in the last 15-20 years for a 3.5* hotel. You couldn't use the remote unless you were standing in front of it. They had a ton of staff, lots of housekeeping and they would greet us whenever we saw them in the hallway. Very nice. The lobby was beautiful. I didn't visit the restaurants. The area is very secluded which we saw as a plus--quiet and off the main roads, but near the interstate. Downtown is 5 minutes away by car, and it's near Duke U. But, these things are only good if you have a car. It's too far away from things if you don't. We did not complain. As I said, for the price, it fit our needs for that one night. I did fill out the "after your stay" survey on Priceline. I wish more people would, as this would (may?) lower their star rating until or if it gets remodeled. All in all, if this hotel was remodeled (heck, even new hinges, sinks and wallpaper) I could see it being a 3.5*.
  20. Just tried again. Rejected again. Ah, well. Used the PRICELINE link from this forum.
  21. Tried with the 4* and 3.5* strategy yesterday morning, rejected again. I have plenty of time and it does seem like prices are dropping little by little. Anyone knows an ant can't move a rubber tree plant, but I've got high hopes! Still perusing TravelZoo because I think some specials should be showing up soon, checking HOTWIRE too. :) It's the thrill of the chase!
  22. Update: Tried on Wednesday and this morning, just using the 4* and 3.5* strategy (and the PRICELINE link from this forum) up to $190 (plus the $30 bonus cash) and was rejected. I've decided to try once or twice a week for this month, then when Aug. hits I'll try with the 3*s and raise my price once Sept. hits, stopping 2 weeks before Sept 20th. If nothing, we just won't go. I'm also periodically checking HOTWIRE and Travelzoo. Travelzoo has some great deals but it's so early nothing in my time zone yet. I honestly think I'll get something in my range someday. It's also kind of fun trying. :) Thanks, thereuare and everyone for your help and encouragement!
  23. Thank you. On the plus side, I know at least PRICELINE doesn't hate me. I bid and won a room in NC next month for $42 (I posted in that forum) because we had a one-nighter planned already. I was just glad to see it work! Thanks again. I'll let you know if/when we get a room. You have gone above and beyond for me and I am grateful.
