  5. So I went for it and got Holiday Inn Express - ALEXANDRIA FORT BELVOIR. Reviews on Tripadvisor look decent, and the location is actually great for Mount Vernon. Advance purchase rate directly on their website was $128 +tax, so I think this was a pretty good deal at $93 after Hotwire fees/taxes. Used the HOTWIRE link here. Thanks for all of your help.
  6. I was attracted to the free parking and breakfast. We're stopping in the Alexandria area for just one night to visit Mount Vernon on our way to our final destination (Williamsburg). We'll be arriving pretty late as we'll be driving from the Boston area and then leaving first thing in the morning, so we don't need anything too special. Maybe for the price, I'll just roll the dice. Will report back with whatever we do. Thanks for checking!
  7. Hello, I'm looking at a 3* in Alexandria. Dates are 8/11-8/12 (one night). Amenities are: Indoor pool(s) Fitness Center Business Center High-Speed Internet Access Accessible for the blind Accessible for the deaf Free Parking Free Breakfast Free Internet Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Wheelchair accessible Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower I'm guessing Hawthorn Suites but I'd like a second opinion before pulling the trigger. Thanks!
  8. Thanks again for your help. The group has decided to book the Hilton as it is directly linked to the Civic Center and only about $20 more/night for a sure thing. Your assistance in IDing the hotels helped us to explore our options and make a better decision, so thanks very much. We'll be sure to use your links if we book online. Also, that MAPS and HOTELS.com website looks really cool! Thanks again.
  9. OK, thanks for the help. I'll check with the group and see if they want to take the leap of faith to potentially save $25/room/night. Will come back and report on our final decision/outcome. Thanks again and happy New Year!
  10. Sorry! Dates are January 20-22, 2012. I've done some more looking around, and I noticed that the Brainerd Rd Holiday Inn Express has an outdoor pool, which is not listed on the amenities. Not sure if it typically is. Also, Hotwire notes that the Tripadvisor review rating is 3.5 stars, which is the same as the HIE on Asylum Street. The Brainerd Rd HIE gets 4 stars on Tripadvisor. Not sure if that is reliable info for id'ing the hotel. Thanks again!
  11. We're looking to get three rooms for two nights in downtown Hartford. Two hotels come up; using your list I think I've ID'd one, but I'd like your opinion, as well as suggestions for the second. 3.5 Downtown Hartford; Amenities are fitness center, pool, restaurant, business center. I'm pretty sure this is the Ramada Plaza (formerly Crowne Plaza). Cost is $65/night. The other hotel is: 3* Downtown Hartford; Amenities are complimentary breakfast, fitness center, business center, laundry, hi-speed internet access. Cost is $81/night and gets positive reviews 75%. I think this is one of the Holiday Inn Express hotels in Hartford. However, not sure which one. Would love it to be the Asylum Street location, but the Brainard Road one would be a no-go since we're looking for something in walking distance from the Civic Center. Any thoughts? Thanks!
  12. Got the Downtown Marriott for $60/night ($50+$10 Entertainment Book Bonus). Total with taxes and fees for the four nights was $245.80. This was my first bid at the 3.5* level, so perhaps could have gone lower (failed at $80 and $85 for four stars), but I'm very pleased. Thanks for the great info on this board. Next time I bid, I won't have the Enterntainment Book, so will definitely use your PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links.
