  1. :) does anyone know the cost of all the additional insurances required for car hire in US - CDW, personal accident and anything else required so that there is no excess charge
  2. :) sorry for not heeding your advice bbbb but my husband is eager to get it all sorted and paid for in advance - so that our holiday spending does not hit the credit cards as the same time as the car hire and hotels
  3. yes i have 22/7 to 30/7 in the scottsdale plaza - $70 a night - but their website is selling for $75 so take care :)
  4. i booked my resort in scottsdale using priceline and 'won' two rooms for 8 nights at $70 a time i know that it would be cheaper closer to the date but looking at last years rates on this site the same hotel was coming up at around $60 imagine how i now feel when i find that the hotel is directly selling the rooms on it's website (link provided by priceline) for $75! not much of a saving there i saw that a guest of the same hotel had booked through priceline (tripadvisor.com) and been charged more than the hotel was selling for - i only read the headlines as my computer won't let me open the page) so my case is not that unusual for priceline and this hotel :) : i forgot to say my dates are july 22nd to 30th
  5. :) sorry thereuare - it is the harbourside we are booked into - where we were to spend our last night anyway - just means we won't have to change rooms - i'm sure it will be fine
  6. thanks for your encouragement - you're right boston for less than $68 is a good deal - the hyatt com price is $225 - we'll give it a good go - the water taxis sound like my son will enjoy them anyway we did stay at the hyatt regency (when it was the swissotel) and it was quite tired - but the location was so good for shopping at macy's and filenes - still - am now looking forward to the trip - five weeks tomorrow :)
  7. following a bid strategy for a successful win for the hyatt in charlestown boston i made a bid for a four star in charlestown for $60 which was rejected, followed this with an increased bid of $64 in south boston again rejected and then for $68 in medford - this was accepted but the hotel is the hyatt at logan airport which is in a different part of boston do i really want to spend 6 nights in the airport hotel? does this happen often or have they made a mistake? i've checked my bids again and did not request this area with this booking. HELP!
  8. followed your strategy to the letter for my date - 8th april (one night) started at 31 pounds + 4* airport area - rejected but if i added on ten more pounds..... went up to 32 pounds and added south boston - again rejected so then "jumped" to 34 pounds and added medford - bingo - got it - with tax adds up to 42+ pounds but what a buy! used PRICELINE link to hyatt site and found best rate for my night is $169 com rate otherwise $179 thank you so much better bidding - you've got me hooked!
  9. i do like the look of the desert ridge but don't mind if for the last part of our holiday we stay in scottsdale - (that was recommended) i had a provisional booking at the buttes but am not encouraged by the reviews that talk about noise problems - that was to cost $109 and $54 a night (two rooms with breakfast) - two adults and two children i saw a 4.5* on hotwire for our dates 22nd july to 30th july for around $117 a room (north scottsdale) and wondered what this might be - it all gets expensive when you have to double to two rooms - extra space for the children! we really are open to suggestions as we have never been further west than florida - we would welcome advice from people who know the area - and the best way to get the best price to get the best places!
  10. good location and a very pleasant restaurant to sit and watch the world go by i stayed here in february last year and the only downside was the check in - very slow and priority given to the large numbers of aircrew who stay here
  11. i was due to stay here for six nights last summer 30th july - 4th august with my two sons the check in was chaotic and it became apparent that they had overbooked so i volunteered to spend a night at the grosvenor or hyatt - i chose the hyatt in a flash the deal was that i would have two complimentary nights stay at wyndham within the next year - i said i would use them in boston in april 2005 - they paid for my town car to the hyatt and for the return the next day when we finally checked in at they wyndham palace the room was okay but so noisy - too close to the lift and it was difficult to sleep they offered me a move to an occupied room! finally moving us into the annex - it was very poor more like a 2* than a 4* - i spoke to the duty manager and a better room was found it is an okay hotel - not too much to commend it really - the pool area is quite basic and a bit tatty - just not what i would expect for a hotel of this rating - it does not compare with the wyndham in boston i don't think i would stay here again - even for a good price (we only paid $89 through wyndham marketing and it was barely worth it) by the way - they were over booked on more than two occasions during our stay
  12. we stayed here in july of last year for ten nights 20th - 30th we booked through priceline asking for a 4 *and paid 65 pounds + tax a night - totalling seven hundred and fifty pounds - this was too expensive - especially as the pool was closed for the whole of our stay and we had to catch a shuttle to the nearby hilton to use theirs priceline said that there are no guarantees that hotels will have pools - i did try to argue that i didn't think it likely that i would find another four star hotel in florida without a pool but they were not helpful they would not move us so we were stuck - their idea of compensation was no charge in their games room ( a small assortment of pinballs and computer type games) there was also a model convention - a regular booking i believe - but this was not too much of an inconvenience the coffee/chocolate was a nice touch but i did pay too much for this hotel - the downside of booking using priceline.co.uk
  13. tried for this hotel today for a stay 2nd april to 8th april (even added on 9th to continue bidding) but to no avail - started at 41 pounds and went up in two pound increments until 51 pounds - tried the free bidding by using south boston and medford decided to leave well alone and try again in a few days - if people have got this hotel for $62 recently - it must be worth a try ( they claim that a 4* hotel in this area of boston is one hundred and ninety three pounds a night - really? i've paid 65pounds for the old swissotel (now the hyatt) in the past but only once paid one hundred pounds and that was for the westin in copley place in october thank you for your bidding tips - i will keep on trying
  14. i have booked the early part of my holiday 4th to 16th july at marriott desert ridge - got a deluxe room for 55 gb pounds (this seemed a much better deal than i could find conventionally - usually came out at around $150 + tax) the middle of my holiday i booked through priceline - downtown phoenix hyatt (only 20gb a night) 16 - 19 july then i'm off to the grand canyon and vegas finally returning to phoenix on 22nd july to 30th july ( we need two rooms - 2 adults and 2 children) and would like a nice resort - i could probably get the desert ridge for around 110 pounds a night for the two rooms but wonder if it is worth trying hotwire/priceline for this area at this time of the year we have never been to phoenix before what do you think would be a good priceline bid for each room - for a four star or four star resort? (i'm gradually losing confidence - although got quite a buzz getting a hyatt for 20 pound)
  15. hello also booked this hotel for 20 pound a night (booked two rooms) for saturday 16th to tuesday 19th july - hyatt site coming up at $145 + tax - so very pleased wouldn't have considered it if i hadn't found your site ( i suppose 20 gb pounds is around $40)
