  1. whoops - sorry for not listing amenities - so used to bidding on priceline anyway 3* Holiday Inn - GATWICK airport - HORLEY restaurant, tennis (nearby) and business centre will try to book all hotels and cars through savingsbarn.com :)
  2. paid $66 x 2 plus taxes for one night - 4th august total cost including fees is $161 the lowest rate i could find in UK was
  3. for the information of anyone who might find themselves in the same situation as we did priceline have agreed to refund the money for the plaza and make good the difference for the westin the plaza refund has already reached my account but the fax i sent with the bill from the westin has yet to reach them (!)- will have to resubmit i'll let you know when the money does turn up (two months now.....) :)
  4. just checked my hyatt statement and my stay in boston in feb has been credited to my account too - it might be some hotels do and some don't ..... :)
  5. thanks blueskies - sorry for the delay in replying - yes you are correct this works ( i was dazzled by the brilliance of the new layout....) :)
  6. have been bidding for a 4* for some days now without success - have gone up to $89 decided to go for a 3* and bid $65 - accepted i have found this same hotel for
  7. originally bid $40 for 3* no response a couple of days later bid $50 - offered counter offer if increased by $14 - offered $4 but no response had some bonus money to use so bid again offering a rebid zone (apache - only 2* here) and bid $54 and $10 bonus - so was successful - so $66 to pay it is only one night and we will be arriving late from palm springs but this seems like a reasonable rate - have yet to look up the going rate on crowne plaza site - much more than this i would think ps hotwire had a 3* for $66 + tax which equalled $80 so a small saving over hotwire but maybe a better hotel (crowne plaza is 3.5* with hotwire i think) :)
  8. bid $15 for a full size or premium earlier this week - not a sniff made a bid of $21 for a premium car for the easter weeks next year and was accepted immediately - with taxes and fees around $480 - a saving of 55% (priceline say - against lowest published rates for this company) so 14 X $21 = $294 taxes/fees = $176 (approx) i may well have saved a dollar or two if i had waited but i am impatient and it is now booked and paid for well in advance of the holiday (won't impact on spending cash) - insurance will be the annual policy i found details for on this site - it will also cover this summers trip - great value! :)
  9. hello saving money we are the couple without a room - priceline have now offered to pay the difference between the hotel i should have had with them ($50+) and the one we stayed in ($200+) i will find out if the full refund has been made to my credit card when i receive my next statement i had to really push because the customer services reps (phone and email) kept saying that a refund of $50+ was the best i could expect i emailed the executive offices after advice on this site it really does seem to pay to complain (if you have a case) :)
  10. i tried today to check out boston hotels on priceline.co.uk and couldn't find a way into US US placenames generated towns in UK and Europe but no US options It also directed me to priceline.com for US or 'back to homepage' - the homepage seems to be UK and Europe only Am I doing something wrong? There's never been a problem before.
  11. i received an email telling me it was okay to bid again - for a bid made a few days ago (not reported yet - very speculative)
  12. i've just spent one night at the radisson - friday 21st - it was okay - it is right next door to the marriott on bath road - and also next door to mcdonalds - i had a kingsize room last summer i had a priceline 'win' at the marriott
  13. i think he meant he usually gets the disney hotels for less than he paid at the gaylord he certainly got the gaylord for less than i paid which was $93 and $96 in april ($93 was for the same night that he stayed)
  14. i'm not sure of the difference between loyalty stay points and nights adding towards levels of reward but my stay at the marriott in key largo has been added to my total of nights in a calendar year - i also received marriott points for purchases at the hotel and a goodie bag for being a marriott card holder (and not a grand one either - silver)
  15. yes the car company does know when we collected our car in hilton head the clerk said that we were going to be upgraded - a particularly good deal he said, considering the rate we had negotiated with priceline....
  16. just for information thereuare - to update hotels in this region wyndham buttes - phoenix is now 'the buttes' a marriott resort change happened end of march 2006 possible good news - i believe the wyndham buttes had mixed reviews
  17. hello i did as you suggested and checked out the cost of a friday night stay at the comfort in in hilton head (excluding this easter weekend) and the cost ranged from $100 - $116 - so i sent this information to priceline and suggested that they might want to refund my original monies $57 and $109 (middling fee) for the cost of a night at the comfort in - i suggested that transport between hotels and breakfast could be left to them to see what they thought was acceptable just received an email from katie leilous in the corporate offices saying that are willing to reimburse the difference between the cost of the two hotel stays ($57 and $209) - so i will fax the receipt tomorrow thanks to all for your advice - i'll let you know when the monies hit my account michele :)
  18. room for 3....? i have had rooms at the sheraton, wyndham, colonade and westin - copley area- and have always had two beds also the hyatt regency has had two beds too - all of these hotels have been 'won' through priceline over the years although i believe some of the smaller 'boutique' hotels near the common may not have such big rooms - i usually check out the hotel website once the 'win' is posted and then if in doubt ring the hotel - i have always got the number of beds i have needed - i often travel with two children so need the extra bed
  19. oh just for info thereuare, we had no choice but to go off and book another hotel, the plaza hotel did nothing to help us to find alternative accommodation and certainly did not offer to pay for the cost of our room elsewhere
  20. thanks for your advice - i will contact the priceline management and see how things go we went to the westin because we had stayed there earlier in the week and knew that they had availability - we also knew where it was! (we believe it to be a 3.5 star) i appreciate that there is a difference in the quality of the two hotels and recognise that priceline might baulk at making up the difference but it would not be unreasonable for them to pay the going rate of a nearby 2* it is a concern that priceline can almost condone this unreasonable behaviour and it could cast a shadow of uncertainty over future bookings at busy times - for any priceline customer :)
  21. i agree with you it is most unsatisfactory that a booking made by a customer cannot be changed but a booking not honoured can be 'cancelled' by priceline i have scoured the priceline website tonight to find details of this situation and cannot find anything other than when a booking is made on priceline the hotel has the details immediately locked into their reservation system (showing up as paid i presume) priceline have invited me to ring them and speak with a customer services rep (again) but i think that this is their standard email response i will do as you suggest and just keep on at them by email does anyone know the name of anyone in particular i can target? the woman i spoke with tonight informed me that the rep in hotel reservations dept. was the highest authority i could speak with now i feel sure some of you know better.......
  22. horrible hotel - and that is just the outside and foyer and reception staff please do not feel tempted to bid on a 2* in hilton head - you could end up here and the bad reviews are far closer to the truth than those who say that they like it here :)
  23. thanks they have said as a goodwill gesture they will give me back my money - that's good of them as they didn't give me what i paid for has anyone else had a similar problem? when walked from a wyndham in orlando last year i was well compensated - a night in a local hotel, transport both ways, $20 in phone calls and two nights to be used at a later day - all this and i was asked if i wanted to move the plaza and priceline didn't ask - or tell - until close on midnight - and then i had to pay for another room ... :)
  24. i had a booking for one night in hilton head (friday 7th april) at the 2* hilton head plaza hotel and suites - although the reviews were quite awful i kept saying - it is just one night ... we arrived late (11pm) and the clerk said he had nothing on his system about us - no booking - i showed him my priceline confirmation etc - on paper and on the computer screen (no good at all) it turns out that they were overbooked and we had to go elsewhere - which we finally did - at our own expense .... i could not reach priceline at midnight (just got stuck in their loop) on the phone so we drove off in search of a room for the night we went to the westin and paid $209 although were upgraded to club floor and given an ocean view room - it was nice for the time we were there (we had an early check out as we were flying home the next day) priceline were sympathetic when i spoke with them on saturday morning and today have offered me $57 - the cost of the room - they call this a favour and a one off gesture (in their email) - i replied saying what? you did not give me what i had paid for so i do not consider it a favour at all! they invited me to ring to speak with a customer agent - why bother? she hadn't a clue why i was ringing and was quite rude (surprise surprise) and finally passed me to what she said was the highest authority(?) i could speak to a hotels agent - she again repeated the $57 was the best she could do etc but went on to say these things happen from time to time etc etc we discussed compensation and they are offering 'a link' that can save me up to $50 off future bookings.... brilliant! i know that priceline customer service is noted for its compassion but really - is this the best that they can do when they made the booking with the cowboy hotel? by the way - do not risk bidding 2* in hilton head you may 'win' this awful hotel AND be unlucky enough to have to stay there ...... we did have a lucky (if quite expensive) escape - it really is a dive ....... :)
