  1. I will make a back up reservation. I wonder if I should try to split up my days. Hmmm. Will try again in 72 hours and let you know. Thanks.
  2. Trying to get a 4* for cheap in NYC- Going to NYC with another couple 14-18 Oct. 2 rooms, 4 nights. Would love to get the Westin in MTW. Re-bid up to $115 to try and get the Westin - no luck. Bid back down at $99 including MTE and UM/CPW - no luck. Will try again in 72 hours, I guess. Advice, suggestions welcomed. I realize I will have to jack up my price as my trip draws closer, but I saw the $100 Westin price on this BB and got excitied. It's such a function of days of the month.
  3. Check-In Date: Thu, Sep 16, 2004 Check-In Time: After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Fri, Sep 17, 2004 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $25.00 (US dollars) Taxes & Service Fees: $8.28 (US dollars) Total Charges: $33.28 (US dollars)
  4. TIPS FOR YOUR TRIP - 1. Downtown Seattle hotels are expensive - even through Priceline. Might want to stay outside downtown. 2. Crossing the border take the "truck crossing" just off I-5 - less busy. 3. Don't forget your passport, of course. (I did last yr and it was a hassle.) 4. In Vancouver, it looks like you can get a 4* for $50 if you read the threads on this board. 5. If you are coming to Vancouver Island from Vancouver on a Sunday afternoon book a reservation for $15 on the ferry. 6. In Victoria there is a new Marriott that hopefully is now a 4* on Priceline - hopefully the Red Lion is no longer listed in the same category as the Marriott and Empress. 7. If you are driving and doing the counter-clockwise loop from Seattle, you can take the Coho Ferry from Vic to Port Angeles. More picturesque than I-5. 8. In Victoria a nice restaurant is Il Terrazzo or The Tapas Bar. Have fun!
  5. thanks for the help. the wedding is actually in the town of "niagara-on-the-lake" which is different than "niagara falls". however, in another thread i read - "In the past, I have been able to win the 2.5* Four Points by Sheraton St Catharines for around $38 even when Niagara rates were high " i will give this a shot. i believe st catherine's is only a 25 min drive from niagara on the lake. i just bid $35 and got rejected. will keep bumping it up by $5 every 72 hours. as i am travelling alone so $160 CAD per night for 2 nights for a little B&B is steep. i guess they have to make their money in the summer. only down side to being in st. catherine's is limiting my libation intake in the evening. oh well.
  6. I thought I would selfishly piggy-back on this thread. ;-) Attending a wedding on Sep 18, so need a hotel room for the 17th and 18th as close to this place as possible - Queen's Landing Inn 155 Byron Street Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario Canada L0S 1J0 Telephone: (905) 468-2195 Never been to Niagara-on-the-Lake so any suggestions / recommendations welcomed. Ideally, I would like to be able to walk (read stumble) home, but a 15 min drive away for a place in the $50 range would work too. Thanks!
  7. Have you emailed them about your suggestion? I don't see a 'Contact Us" link on the PL home page. Suggestions to get them to change their Victoria ratings and maps?
  8. I concur with epicurean girl 100%. Having the Red Lion rated as a 3* ruins it for all. The new Marriott is up, but it's probably rated a 3* too! Who can we email at PL with our issue that the Red Lion should not be a 3*?
  9. Thanks WillTravel for the Paul's Motor Inn suggestion. I grew up in Victoria, live in CA now, but head up there quite a bit. As I stated in another post 6 months ago, Victoria is a tough market to get great value on PL. There is only one "area" (hence, no tricky re-bidding possible), the 4* is the empress (tried $39 - got rejected), and the 3* hotels include the Red Lion which IMHO is not a 3* and it's also way up Douglas St. (tried $29 - got rejected). The new Marriott is open downtown, but it's probably a 3* so you'll run the risk of getting the Red Lion on PL. Just needed a place to close my eyes for 6 hours. Got a room for about $45 US total on www.Expedia.com (can't beat that in Vic May-Aug), i think. It worked for me, but no way would it work for my high maintenance wife. :) Any other city in America I would be frightened to stay there, but not in Victoria. Unfortunately, some drunk yahoo was yelling at 2am waking everyone. Got there at midnight, left at 7am. Worked for me as a male travelling alone.
  10. Good observations. I will decide soon between The Vance (off their website) for about $80 and The Crowne Plaza on HW for $96+ fees. Thanks!
  11. First tried a 4* for $100. no luck. Then got the $70 on first try for a 3* so could probably have gotten it a bit cheaper. I'm happy. Rates are $189 on www.marriott.com Total cost about $85 with $15 fees.
  12. Update - Just bid and got rejected on 4* on PL at - $70 all the way to $82 ... might just get the HW room or The Vance Hotel for $80 - saw it listed on www.Expedia.com
  13. Yes. Sorry for not being more clear. I am looking for advice for getting a 3.5* or above in Downtown Seattle for $70 or less on the 4th of April. I was thinking maybe of using other websites that I have never used before like Hotels.com or some other website suggestions. The answer might be "tough luck - not much you can do except pay the $96 on HW or bid $85 on PL." HTH. Thanks.
  14. Looking for a room for my folks for one night (Sunday, 4th of April). On HW this is what currently comes up - 3* $67 3.5* $96 4* $123 4.5* $128 5* $245 My goal is to get my folks into a 3.5* or above for $70 or less. I stayed in Seattle a few months back and got a 3.5* for $61. I don't understand why prices are so high on HW. It's less than a week away, a Sunday night and not summer yet. Hmmmm. I have read here that PL prices are usually only about $10 less than HW so still steeper than what I paid a few months ago. Is my goal too ambitious? My folks have to take the Victoria Clipper at 8am so that's why I am trying to get them a room downtown. Advice? Suggs? Other websites such as Hotels.com?? Thanks!
  15. Trip went smoothly. Got a non-smoking room with one bed. Upon check-in was offered a room with a view for $20 more. Declined this time. Went with the Mrs who was not initially thrilled with being on the 2nd floor facing the freeway, but she got over it. I think PL and HW rooms are usually allocated to lower floors. Good to ask for a higher floor upon check-in. I forgot to do it this time. In the SFO area, I prefer the Hyatt to the Marriott. No complaints though. Just stayed for one night. Don't forget to budget for $18 valet and bring lots of $1 bills for tipping.
  16. Check-In Date: Sun, Mar 28, 2004 Check-In Time: After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Mon, Mar 29, 2004 Check-Out Time: 12:00 PM $36 Had bid $29 and then PL offered the room for $7 more so i took it. Happy with price paid. Subtotal: $36.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $10.97 Total Charges: $46.97
  17. i do not recall if this was a customer favorite. apologies.
  18. The Amenities are now listed as - Casino, Shuttle, Resaurants, Pool, Fitness, Business, Golf, Tennis NO SPA I am happy with my purchase. $43/night for my folks. IMHO the 4* designation gets applied liberally by Hotwire in Reno. The Peppermill (and most Reno hotels) are more like 3.5* or even 3*. Location: Reno - Tahoe City Area: Reno Hotel Quality: 4-star Upscale Peppermill Hotel & Casino 2707 S. Virginia Street Reno, NV 89502 (775) 826-2121 Check-in Date: Wed, Mar 31, 2004 Check-out Date: Sun, Apr 4, 2004 Number Of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 4 ***** Billing Details ***** Hotel Price per night: $43.00 Hotel Subtotal: $172.00 Total Taxes and Booking Fees: $26.95 Total: $198.95
  19. thanks thereuare - YES. those are precisely the same amenities listed from left to right. i don't mind having paid a bit more just for the quick ease of using hotwire v.s. PL. i was just wondering where someone had seen a successful $28 bid. no biggie. thanks!
  20. Thanks for the info, DeltaPurser. For future reference which is TOBB you are referring to that shows folks gettting this hotel for 20 less? I glanced at the Priceline board on this site and did not see anything recently for this hotel. Thanks!
  21. I knew I would get this hotel thanks to y'all! ;-) Location: San Francisco, CA City Area: SFO Intl Airport South - Burlingame Hotel Quality: 4-star Upscale Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport 1333 Bayshore Highway Burlingame, CA 94010 (650) 347-1234 Check-in Date: Sat, Mar 13, 2004 Check-out Date: Sun, Mar 14, 2004 Number Of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 ***** Billing Details ***** Hotel Price per night: $48.00 Hotel Subtotal: $48.00 Total Taxes and Booking Fees: $13.95 Total: $61.95
  22. thanks to all that helped out on this thread. not sure if this is the appropriate place for this post, but i thought i would just report back about my trip last weekend with 2 other buddies. ok. after a ton of research on this bb, i bid up to $139/night at the venetian (for a fri and sat) and did not get it so i gave up on the venetian. i then checked out www.Orbitz.com (i think) and saw some decent rates at the Luxor. went directly to the Luxor website and made a reservation for a nice 2 bed, non-smoking room in the pyramid for around $139 on fri, $109 on sat and $99 on sun - something like that. very reasonable. a few days before my trip i checked the rates on the Luxor website again and they had come down a combined $50 so i called them and they gave me the lower rates. woo hoo! the Luxor worked great for us. no problem. we got there at noon and the first check-in clerk said we had to wait till 1pm, but then i asked another clerk and she checked us in right away - that was great because we avoided the 5pm check-in crowd because we were going to play golf. i tried giving the clerk a $50 to upgrade us to a 2BR suite, but was unsuccessful. FYI - if you go with your better half, the jacuzzi suites are only a bit more and look like fun. had a good dinner at the Monte Carlo Pub, albeit a bit noisey. went to see Penn & Teller one night - expected more for my $80 in the short 80 min show. Oh well. Also saw the Second City Comedy Troupe which were good. (If you ask you might be able to get 2 for 1 coupon for that show at the Flamingo). it was hard to find anything less than $5 blackjack during the day and $10 at night - although, i read somewhere that the Sahara has cheap blackjack during the day, but did not check that out. make sure you budget for a lot of cab fare. strangely, breakfasts seemed to be as expensive as dinners somehow. all in all, it rocked. just wanted to share some of that with ya'all.
  23. Thanks thereuare - Are we 90% sure that the only 4* in Vegas (Near Strip East) is the Westin on Hotwire? Las Vegas (near Strip East) 4* Westin Casuarina Amenities: Casino, Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business On Hotwire they currently list the amenities above as well as Tennis and Golf "nearby" - i guess anyone could make that claim, ha! For $120/night - that ain't bad. Thoughts?
  24. thanks thereuare - did not realize mirage was a possibility. hmm. there are 3 of us - guys. one room should suffice. i now see that the westin might be avail for $120/night on hotwire, but have heard mixed reviews (that they opened it too soon). i might try one room at the venetian and split the dates (fri & sat then sun alone) and try to get 3 nights for $400. if not, will grab the westin, because i don't want to risk moving hotels on sunday night using PL for a 4.5* on the strip. will try to bid tomorrow night. thanks! last min advice?? any idea how much the venetian will go for on a fri and sat on PL for the 6 and 7th of Feb?
  25. Hi - Can you please sanity check my strategy below pls? OK. It appears that the only two 4.5* hotels on the strip through Hotwire are Caesars and MGM. On the Caesars website it looks like they are completely booked on SAT - i also just called them to confirm. MGM looks booked on www.Expedia.com, but i just called them and they DO seem to have availability on those 3 days. So I am thinking the 4.5* on Hotwire for $154 is the MGM. On the MGM website they offer a room for $120, so I am thinking... book the $154 MGM room through Hotwire, get double the diff and, thus $86 per night (before taxes, fees) for 3 nights total cost for moi. Does that math/strategy make sense or am i smokin' the funny stuff. ;-) Thanks!
