Bid $246 declined. Bid $249. Won the Modern Honolulu. 4.5* Express Waikiki Marina was $259 and Retail $329.
Option to extend stay at same rate.
Used the BB PRICELINE link to start.
On summary page amenities for 4.5* Waikiki Marina were listed as:
Indoor or Outdoor Pool, Pets Allowed, Restaurant, Free Internet, Business Center, Guest Score 8/10 or Higher
Priceline express has 4.5* Waikiki Marina for 7/14-7/16 for $259/night.
I changed my dates to 7/14-7/16 on 'name your own price' and bid 4.5* Waikiki Marina $222 and received a counter offer to increase $60 to $282. If the winning price is somewhere in the middle ie. $252 it is a few dollars from the express deal. I declined and added re-bid zone and bid $229 rejected. Add re-bid zone $236 rejected. Add re-bid zone bid $240 received counter offer to add $42 to $282. Declined offer. Bid $243, $246 declined.
Yes the other HOTWIRE 4* is gone, and the $209 now showing. The 5* is gone too.
To test it out, I just tried bidding for one night 7/14-7/15 4.5* Waikiki Marina with re-bid zones $195, $200, $215, $220, $225. No luck. Now have to wait 24 hours. (I saw someone won Modern $195 in April - 3 months ago)
If priceline express 4.5* Marina is $257 and likely Modern Honolulu, I am not sure how high I should bid next? ie. less than $257
And HOTWIRE 4* Marina is $155 likely Modern Honolulu.
My intention is not necessarily to bid on Priceline, I may not have time to bid for 7/14. So am still considering hotwire if there is a good hotel on offer. That's why I would like help identifying the hotwire hotels.
If I was to bid on priceline I would like to try 4.5* first in Waikiki Beach or Waikiki Marina. What price do you think it would take for a win in this category? For my maximum I was trying to gauge off hotwire prices and make the max bid less than hotwire rates. I welcome your suggestions.
I would consider the $257 4.5* Priceline express deal if Modern Honolulu. Would this also be on offer if I bid in Priceline 4.5* Marina?
When I bid 4.5* Waikiki Marina 7/14-7/18 the following Guaranteed amenities: Indoor or Outdoor Pool, Pets Allowed, Restaurant, Free Internet, Business Center, Guest Score 8/10 or Higher

Based on these Hotwire prices. What would you suggest as a starting bid on priceline for a 4* Waikiki Beach? And a starting bid for 4.5* Waikiki Beach?
Is the '4.5*' on priceline bidding what was 'Resort'?

I got an email to extend my stay at same rate which I wanted to do but needed to use a different credit card. Called pl customer service to check but no policy is must use same credit card to book additional nights, no facility to do otherwise online. I automatically was emailed $50 bonus cash for my call. Worth calling customer service!
I bid resort with re-bid zones $175, 180, 183, 185 plus $10 bonus cash. At 185 it was taking an extra long time processing so thought that was it but not accepted. Got counter offers $221 to re-bid again.
Was running out of time so bid $187 and won Sheraton Waikiki.
Retail $320
Lastminutetravel.com $190
I won westin Maui for $220 for 7/26-7/28. Then I took up the offer to extend my stay at the same rate for one night 7/25.
This was a pretty good hotel, nice lobby with a large pool area, only problem is its in century city, feels like you are in the middle of nowhere, with nothing much to walk to close by except the century city shopping center. I wouldn't want to bid in the west Hollywood Beverly hills zone again knowing you can end up in century city, not worth it. A long drive from west Hollywood. Bring the old zone back.
If I had seen your winning bid, I would have bid $215 instead, I think the halfway point between my initial bid and the offered price was 217
I changed my dates 7/21-7/25.
I decided if the prices are high to start bidding with resort for a max bid of 185, then lower to try 4*, then 3*. I previously tried 4* up to $160 and failed.
I had $10 bonus cash. I bid $161, $170, $175, $178, $181, $185 (making it $195 with bonus cash) - getting the message "If you are willing to raise your price by $60 to $221 per room, per night, you can try the same request again right now" from bid of 161. I won the Sheraton Waikiki Bid $185 (Bonus cash $195). Said I saved 42%. Sheraton Waikiki was $206, then $210, then $215 on hotwire. Sheraton Waikiki priceline retail $320. The sheraton wasn't available on priceline retail when I first started bidding, only just became available now, two weeks prior to stay. I am happy with the Sheraton. Thanks for all your help.
Won the Westin Maui for $220. Priceline retail Westin Maui $329. Whaler was $214.
Bid 190 rejected. Declined offer to rebid-without adding zones at $244.
Bid 195 rejected. Declined offer to rebid-without adding zones at $244.
Bid 202 rejected. Declined offer to rebid-without adding zones at $244.
Only had one more bid left and saw that someone else bid at 210 and was rejected and then won at 220.
So made final bid at $220 and won the Westin Maui. It is expensive but happy with the Westin.

Could this be the sheraton or hyatt?
Thanks for updating the Beachcomber.
I tried searching online for Ohana Waikiki Tower and it seems to be demolished. I tried searching for the Ohana Waikiki Village and it brought up Embassy Suites Waikiki beach walk. Can this be updated too?
Betterbidding priceline list
3* Ohana Waikiki Tower
3* Ohana Waikiki Beachcomber (previously 2.5*) - Now Holiday Inn Waikiki Beachcomber
3* Ohana Waikiki Village
From what I can determine:
Waikiki Beach zone 3*
Ashton Waikiki Beach $245
Pacific Beach hotel $154->sold
Holiday Inn Waikiki Beachcomber $229
Sheraton Princess Kaiulani (previously reported in City Central)
Waikiki City Central
Seaside hotel $135
Hyatt place $224
Courtyard by Marriott $264
Aqua Waikiki Wave $191
Best Western Plus Coconut $600
Outrigger Luana Waikiki sold
But as you said, what is on the retail side isn't on the opaque bidding side. I am now thinking of bidding for 3* Waikiki Beach, can you suggest a bidding strategy with a max bid 150, is this likely or not?
If I don't use the median price in bidding, how best to determine the initial bidding price?
Yes, I am thinking of splitting the dates. I have looked at hotels.com for map locations. Ideally want in the beach zone but may need to reconsider.
The BB list of reported wins for 3* priceline hotels shows Ohana. Where as I am thinking these are older wins, with a hotel now called the holiday inn beachcomber Waikiki. The BB Hotwire list seems to be updated with names. I can't see the other two listed in Priceline retail and wonder too if they changed names. The Sheraton is not available on my dates.
The other 3* hotels are pacific hotel etc but dont appear in the BB list as previosly reported wins. Are you able to advise if the seaside hotel and Hyatt place hotel fall in the central zone or beach zone, as I found it hard to tell on he map looking like on the border.
The average retail price for 3* and 4* is similar, do you think they will both be around the $200 mark for a win?
It said no 3.5* hotels on the retail side of Priceline for beach zone.. It does however let you select it on the bidding side but I don't know if there would be any hotels. None appear on the BB list.
Thanks for the details on bidding, really helpful to follow. I used the BB PRICELINE links.
I bid $120-$160, with the rebid zones, then got this message:
"We searched hundreds of options to find your hotel room, however we can't accept your offer of $160 per room, per night. Your credit card has not been charged for Request Number. If you are willing to raise your price by $67 to $227 per room, per night, you can try the same request again right now.
Normally you are required to change additional items (add zones, star level, or dates) in order to try your request again. However we are able to extend this one-time opportunity to you because of the zone, quality level and dates you requested."
I declined the offer. The full price of Hyatt 4* is $225. It offered 227.
I have one more bid left at 165. A bid of $165 = $1171, which on hotels.com $1473 only $300 less. So I might leave the four star bidding there, unless you have any suggestions, splitting dates?
When I selected 3.5*, it says there are no 3.5* hotels available.
I am not sure about the 3* hotels, as mentioned above, can you give any advice on these hotels, as they are different to the reported wins, can you suggest a strategy and the likely wins one would win?
hotels.com has the stay hotel waikiki for $900 total but on priceline it is 2*, some good reviews for basic motel style, no real amenities though.
Thanks
Goal is least expensive 4* or better.
What price range do u think is needed for a win 4*?
Then would consider 3*, are you familiar with any of the three star properties? Are they ok? The ones on the border, do you know if they fall into the beach category?
Looking to bid for a 4* hotel or Resort in Waikiki Beach from 7/20/12 - 7/26/12. Thinking of a maximum bid of $170. Average retail Resort* $359, Average retail 4* $296. Do you think this is likely? Do you think we need to split our dates? Can you suggest a bidding strategy?
Oahu (Waikiki Beach)- Reported hotels
Resort Outrigger Reef on the Beach - Not available
Resort Outrigger Waikiki On The Beach - Not available
Resort Marriott Beach (previusly 4*) $334
Resort Sheraton Waikiki - Not available
Resort Westin Moana Surfrider (previously 4*) $385
4* Hyatt Regency (previously Resort) $242
If this does not work, would next consider bidding on 3* hotel, maximum bid $130? (Pacific beach retail 154). Average retail 3* $232. Express deal 3* $188
However, I am not sure which hotels are likely, as the Ohana hotels don't seem to show up on the retail side.
Retail hotels 3*: Ashton Waikiki Beach $244, Pacific Beach hotel $154, Holiday Inn Waikiki Beachcomber $232 (Maybe on border of zone Seaside hotel $209, Hyatt place $224)
Reported hotels
3* Ohana Waikiki Tower - Not available
3* Ohana Waikiki Beachcomber (previously 2.5*) - Now Holiday Inn Waikiki Beachcomber? $232
3* Ohana Waikiki Village
3* Sheraton Princess Kaiulani - Not available
Thanks for any help
Just a comment...
In my opinion the Sydney Hilton and Sheraton are way better than the Grace. I have never stayed at the Grace though, just seen it from the outside, and I personally wouldn't choose it. Though the Hilton and Sheraton on the Park are both lovely and modern.
This was now what was available on HOTWIRE and I wasn't sure which hotels it included.
So I bidder on PRICELINE. 4* Beverly hills west Hollywood, average price $244, so I start my bid at $122. I won the Hyatt regency century plaza for $122. I thought this was under the Westwood century city category not Beverly hills west Hollywood as I saw others win $105 under century city?? I checked the winning page and it definitely said Beverly hills west Hollywood as the only category.
Now I am looking at 5/25-5/26 and it is a different set of amenities

I would prefer the Grand Hyatt as its in the terminal, is there a way to distinguish between the two on Hotwire?
