  19. Be aware that the drive from Schaumburg to Chicago Downtown may be greater than 1 hour (despite it being ~20 miles) due to traffic during anytime that is close to daylight. So head in and out early in the morning or late at night or you'll be sitting in traffic.
  20. I stayed here one night (Thursday) for 57$/night. The area is not in the greatest area of Chicago, but it there because of convention center. There is a lot of construction in the area, so there isn't much to do at night. FREE street parking can be easily had in the streets one block north of the hotel. It didn't seem like the SAFEST place, but it was lit and many other people parked there. I drove a 98' camry there, so I didn't mind as much, but I wouldn't park your BMW 740i or your 4Runner there. The lobby was beautiful and well decorated and the front desk person was helpful. I recieved my request for a double queen bed room. Room was clean with reasonable amenities. I received the 21st floor with a North view (view of the city, and it was beautiful). It wasn't a great 4* hotel, but great for the price (esp for a Weekday). For dinner, I drove my car to Bucktown; <-- I wasn't able to take the "L" there, because there are no stations in reasonable walking distance (plus, it didn't look so safe). The room provided high speed ETHERNET via cord for $10/24hours, which I was disappointed it wasn't offered free, but the business center was free to use (the front desk person even unlocked it for me afterhours (10pm). overall, it was a reasonable stay if staying for business reasons (except for the lack of free in-room internet), but I wouldn't pick this place if you were here for vacation. 21. OMNI AMBASSADOR REVIEW I just posted a review for this hotel that I wrote about 5 months ago. I don't know... the whole bedsheet thing is really strange (maybe it is a non-issue now), as at least 2 people other than me have commented about it on the internet forums. It is a good 10-15 minute walk until you get to the beginning of (north edge) Mag Mile.
  22. I stayed there two nights... Fri and Sat for the weekend before Christmas 2004. (75$/night) I was able to find parking on the streets both days, yes it was a pain, but I didn't want to spend 34 or 35 for valet parking, or use the lot (no-in/out) nearby for 29$/day. There surrounding areas are residential and need a residential permit only from 6pm-6am everyday. And there are main streets nearby that are metered that are from either 9a-6pm M-Sat or 9/10a-8pm M-Sat. So you could in theory move your car to one of the meters at 4pm Saturday, and put in 1$ for 2 hours and leave it there overnight and Sunday. To find parking starting on Friday, I would suggest looking in areas near "schools," as I discovered those areas have restriction until Friday afternoon (as opposed to Saturday). I was optimistic about this hotel, despite its mixed reviews (particularly at tripadvisor). It is located in the Gold Coast and a reasonable (~1 mile walk) to the Mag Mile. The Gold Coast is a very very nice area with the Chicago City proper. It is well within walking distance to some very nice restaurants. I was given a room on the 6th floor (out of 17), and it was certainly a "priceline" room. The hotel is organized as an "L" and I got the room that is abutting the suite that is located at the corner of the "L". Therefore it is the the smallest room on each floor. I requested a 2 double bed room, but they said it would be a 20$/night upgrade charge, so I just stuck with the non-smoking king. The amenities, which included a robe, were nice. The room was clean, but like I said previously, I received the smallest room, and I believe the bathroom isn't as spacious as what I imagined. There were other posts saying that the bathroom was spacious, and I think that is what was cut out in the room due the constraints of the location. Other aspects that were good: Free local and 800 calls, FREE WIRELESS internet. Bad: no central ac/heat. The temp was controlled digitally in a window heater/ac in the corner of the room. It was difficult to set to the right temp as the bed was in the other side of the room. Plus it was noisy. I felt the WORST part about my stay was the sheets. I read someone complained about bedbugs. I don't believe it had bedbugs, but the quality of the sheets were deplorable. I couldn't sleep the first night. I didn't understand why, then I looked about the label of the pillow case and it said that is was 50/50 and 180thread count. I was astounded; the sheets/pillow case were scratching on my face. I called the front desk at 230am (that is when I finially noticed), and asked if there were other sheets available. They said that we only have one type of sheet, but they could bring another possibly "softer" set. I just said that I'll tough it out. Needless to say, I didn't sleep well, but I quickly adapted. the second night was similar, but I think I tolerated it much better. Next time, I would not want to stay here, because of location/sheets. Location is okay, but it is certainly a good walk to the mag mile/center of the action. (btw, I'm serious about the sheets issue, I've stayed in many hotels/motels, but this is the FIRST time, I actually was bothered enough to look at the label.) maybe I'm a bedsheet snob? for comparison, I have 220tc 100% cotton sheets at home (and it felt so GOOD to sleep at home on Sunday night), and I believed I slept on 200tc 100% in college. 23. Well, this was indeed a disappointing stay and the reviews that I have read about this property has all been true, but I guess all is somewhat tolerable when I'm paying such a low price for a hotel.. This a fairly runned down property that has been poorly maintained. The lobby actually looked fairly nice compared to the rest of the hotel. The lobby was more than I expected from the reviews that I have read. Checkin was somewhat slow, and I really felt for the lady that was handling the phones and checkin. There seemed to have been two people but it seemed that only one person was handling the show. She was definately being overwhelmed. The process was all slowed down because of all the outside phone calls and hotel guests calling the front desk. There was no specific mentioning of priceline, as she said the credit card is for incidentals only and the room has been prepaid. I requested a room that is more "quiet," and she gave me a room with two double beds near the backside of the hotel. I was given a map/layout of the hotel and it seems that the hotel is divided into two separate buildings. Parking is free and plentiful. I drove to the appropriate area and I approached the building. The most striking thing was the overflowing garbage/cigarette receptacle right near the door and right near the keycard reader. I arrived on Friday afternoon around 330pm and the same garbage + even more garbage (now on the floor) is still present when I left on Sunday morning. I entered the room and it was somewhat clean (no obvious problems), but everything was really old. The beds were definately old and soft/saggy. A 20" television in provided with no premium cable channels. The amenities in the hotel were definately on the below-average side compared to the other HI's that I've stayed in. Dial bath soap, Tone complexion soap, and Shampoo was provided (I don't remember the brand since I didn't use it. All I remembered that there was no conditioner provided and I used the Pantene-ProV conditioning shampoo [which I got from a previous HI stay] bottle that I brought with me from home.) Water pressure in the shower was on the weaker side, but the water was hot. Towels were adequate and clean. I slept okay on the two nights I've been there so far. I have one more night to go. Now comes the issue of internet access. I knew that there was no high-speed internet access available (one of the few HIs that don't offer it), so I came prepared. I am currently typing this review at a Panera Bread (1140 Plaza Dr., Schaumburg, IL) that is about 5-10 minute drive away. The WiFi is free (as opposed to what is offered at Starbucks). What surprised me is that one of the small signs on the desk say that "Internet is now available!") However, in the small print on the back of the sign, it said that you can get internet access from one of these machines where you pay per minute, or you can connect wirelessy in the lobby for some charge or you can get wired access in the conference room for a charge. I would have paid for access if it were in the room, but I just decided that I would visit Panera bread every morning and evening during the trip. Overall, I would NEVER pay retail price for this hotel, and I would not electively stay here. Avoid checking off below 3* in the Schaumburg area if bidding by Priceline. The folio said that priceline paid 26$/night for this room. I guess I overpaid by 3$/night. Check-In Date: Friday, May 6, 2005 Check-Out Date: Monday, May 9, 2005 Hotel Name: Holiday Inn Rolling Meadows 3405 Algonquin Road Rolling Meadows, Illinois 60008 847-259-5000 Summary of Charges Your Offer Price: $29.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 3 Subtotal: $87.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $18.19 Total Charges: $105.19
  24. my Hotel review CC'ed to the Hotel review section I stayed here on a Friday night and I sincerely enjoyed my stay. Self parking at the hotel (underground parking garage) is 12$ while valet is 20$. I chose self parking (billable to the room) which allows you in-and-out privledges for the duration of your stay. I called the hotel in advance to see if I can request a nonsmoking DOUBLE room, and the CSR said that since this is priceline reservation they can't guarantee room-type and it will depend on what is available at checkin. The hotel is located in downtown and very close to the convention center. Good if you are attending a convention, not as good if you are going to go drinking/dancing in the warehouse district (as I was). The lobby is really pretty and elegant. Checkin was efficient and they granted me a double room on a higher floor as requested (received 22nd floor of 25). I presented my Gold VIP account number and they gave me an "executive floor" key card which I could show for complimentary access to the lounge on the 25th floor. The room was not very big, but sufficient. The room/bathroom were very clean. Neutrogena amenities were provided. A ~24" flat-screen standard-definition Philips CRT television was present in the room. Wireless internet access is available for a fee (3.99/day I believe). A working desk is provided, but the chair for the desk was not very comfortable. The executive lounge is on the 25th floor and requires that you only show the keycard to the person outside the lounge. The lounge had a very reasonable view and reasonably spacious (not many people were there). A plasma screen television is present and an honor bar is available from 630-930 I believe. complimentary appetizers are available from 5-7. The bed is indeed very comfortable with 4 feather pillows in each bed. I slept very soundly. The bed wasn't as comfortable as the ones with Larkspur Landing but it still a very comfortable bed. I missed the complimentary breakfast at the executive lounge (630-10a) because I am a moron and I overslept. Check out was very easily; as I just leave a message on their checkout answering machine. The folio left under the door showed that 12$ was charged to my card. Noteably, the price of the room was stated on the folio as $51. I would definately stay here again. PS. I also want to say that my friend also got 2 rooms here on the same night. They were able to get TWO double bed rooms next to each other (linking doors) on the 20th floor. Their rooms looked exactly like mine.
