  1. This hotel is not in Ohio. It is in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. I specifically put "Ontario" in the title when I posted but it seems to have been removed. Address according to TripAdvisor: Cambridge Hotel and Conference Centre, 700 Hespeler Rd | Highway #24, Cambridge, Ontario N3H 5L8, Canada

  3. Just a note that you titled the dates incorrectly: it should be April 22 - 24.
  4. Bit the bullet. The exchange rate was moving in my favour but the hotel rates were not. I decided betting on the exchange rate would not benefit me in the end. I'm not sure how to see the US $ rate? I believe it was $173 but not positive since the reservation is showing it in CAD. 5. Thanks, especially for the food cart tip! Because of the exchange, I was hoping to get a place for around $120/night but I think that's going to be impossible given the availability I'm seeing. I am seeing a boutique place available for the price but looking at the TA reviews (very variable), I may pass. My husband really hated the "boutique" place I booked last time we went although it was nice and perfectly clean, imo, so I'd rather get brand-name if I can which is why I'm looking at Hotwire because the complaints I get for going below 4 star. At $160, I'm already paying over $200 Canadian (currently C$1 = US$0.75) so that's pretty much the top of my range. Although, as we have flights and the other two nights already booked and I don't want to stay outside of Manhattan, in the end, we will have to pay what we have to pay. It doesn't really have to be walkable from the Hilton Midtown but it's easier if it's in the same area, imo.
  6. Sorry, closed the previous thread. Yes, it's 4.5 stars and it's 2 adults, 1 child. I'm staying at the Hilton Midtown for a couple other nights so would like something close by so I can potentially walk the luggage over. I'm guessing this is the Waldorf Astoria. I was hoping to get a better rate (Canadian and am currently getting killed on the exchange). I was thinking about waiting it out a few more weeks but Hotwire gave me a warning that it was a busy week).
  7. We decided just to go to Florida instead and didn't use a Hotwire hotel.

  10. After checking periodically, I realized that the hotels that were available on Hot.wire were always rated around 3 on TripAdvisor. I ended up just booking a hotel on Expedia.
  11. I stayed at the Castle Kamaole condo property in 2010 for 10 nights and the resort fee was a one-time charge, not daily. It was $15 then. I would contact the hotel to ask how their resort fees actually work. The cleaning service only came once every 4 or 5 days, if I recall correctly. Also, I ended up not buying through HOTWIRE because when I contacted the Castle Kamaole, they matched the rate.
  12. Just realized that the TA review was 2.5 so it must be the Dania Magec. Yuck.

  14. Enjoy your stay! Just a warning that parking is $15 for self-park and $20 for valet (or it was in 2010 when I got this property on Hotwire for $164).
  15. I would say it's probably not the Westin Diplomat because Expedia is showing no vacancy during that time period. Crowne Plaza would be my guess as it's available for $126 on Expedia during that period. My husband stayed at the Westin last year and I believe that the pp is right: the Westin is beachfront but the Diplomat is across the road overlooking the Intracoastal. We stayed at the Crowne Plaza this year and it is also across the road (near beach) overlooking the intracoastal however, the beach is probably a 2 minute walk except for the fact that you may have to wait a few minutes for the Walk light.

  18. I got this hotel on Hotwire in Dec 2008 for $99 or $118 with taxes. Be warned: the place is sort of a dive although the lobby is nice so I only gave it 2 stars on my TripAdvisor review. Hopefully, they've renovated since then. Valet parking was $30 although you can possibly find your own for cheaper. In retrospect, I would have opened up my search to Collins Drive instead of just Ocean Drive but I had never been to Miami so wasn't familiar with the area.
  19. Wed, May 18 to Sun, May 22 $123 2 adults, 1 child Recommended in 95% of Hotwire reviews This hotel typically charges guests a resort fee of about US$ 30 per person per night, regardless of how the room is booked. The hotel collects the fee directly from you, so it won't show in your Hotwire
  20. Well, I actually didn't win it because I booked directly through the hotel site. By the way, it was a great condo for the price I paid ($119 per night).
  21. I'm not sure that I'm supposed say this on this board, but... Back in March, we stayed at the Castle Kamaole Sands for 10 nights. I priced it on Hotwire (was fairly sure that it was Sands) and then I contacted the hotel through the Castle website. The rate they quoted me was EXACTLY THE SAME as the Hotwire rate. So, if you are thinking about this resort, I would first contact the hotel because if you book directly, you don't have to pre-pay and can leave if you don't like the resort. Also, the resort fee was a one-time (per stay) $15 fee. It was not daily like most resorts. Maybe this should be in the hotel reviews section?
  22. I booked this resort back in March and the HOTWIRE listing did NOT include the fact that there was a resort fee. I was actually quite annoyed by this fact even though I was expecting a fee. $25 was pretty high given the amenities (not many) included in the fee.
  23. FYI for prospective bidders: there is no resort fee but there is a charge for parking which is effectively a resort fee as most people rent a car due to the property being 45 minutes from the airport. Self-park is $15/day and valet parking is $20/day.
