  1. Tried bidding for it on PRICELINE; but got within $20 and switched to just pay HOTWIRE.
  2. Was looking to get a hotel in Oakland downtown, and I tried to get a 'free' rebid by adding Berkeley. I gambled and failed. Bought Clarion downtown Oakland from HOTWIRE for $20 more - which I'm happy for; as it's only .6 miles from my venue event. Now need to find a way to unload this one.
  3. Bid up from $300 in $25 increments while adding zones. Had SOMA and Union Square East as the two places I wanted. Hotel price ended up the same as using hotwire, but $200 less overall due to less fees.
  4. Tons of bidding -- as low as 3*; in Charleston, Mt Pleasant, and Ashley River Area - finally hit at $100. Pleased with the location -- about 10 minutes from Startup Weekend Charleston venue.
  5. Bid in $10 increments at 3.5* level... can't believe how high it got, but still ~$50/night less than HOTWIRE, so can't complain too much.
  6. Did a bunch of bidding on Price.line, but as my price approached $110, I decided to opt for HOTWIRE instead... Happy with the win over our group rate at a nearby hotel of $150. Complimentary Breakfast Free Internet Indoor Pool Smoke Free Fitness Restaurant Business
  7. Probably could've started lower, but happy with the win. In town for the great wide open conference, and this beats the $269/night for the recommended hotel; and its only 2 blocks away - so we can walk!
  8. Taking a startup crew from Myrtle Beach, SC to BarcampCHS Mapped things out, and bid as follows: 3 Ashley 4* S Univ 2.5* 2 Downtown 5* Foly Beach 3* Middleton 3* 1 Mt Pleasant 4* 4 N Charleston Airport 3.5* N Charleston Mall 3* 5 W Charleston 2.5* 4* 1 $50 1, 2 $55 +S Univ $60 + Foley $65 3.5* 1 $50 1,2 $55 + S univ $60 + Foley $65 3* 1 $50 1,2 $55 + S Univ $60 3.5* 4 $50 3* 4 $45 - Offer for $54. 4 $49 - YES!
  9. They renamed the zone to just 'Downtown'. I started my bidding at $65 and went up in $5 increments using lots of rebid zones until I hit. I'm in town that weekend for a wedding, and wanted to extend my stay a day, and the wedding rate doesn't apply - so I was super happy to have gotten the same hotel, so now I hopefully won't have to change room when I let them know about this extra day when I check in. Used the PRICELINE link! Thanks!
  10. So sorry! can you edit my title to include Ocean City, MD ? Demand is extreme right now -- I ended up going through the websites of every accommodation in the area - check for availability, pricing, and minimum night stay restrictions. Finally achieved getting 7/20/12-7/21/12 (one Friday night) for $149 at Crystal Sands Motel. Seems like a good deal relative to everything else and based on the extreme demand, so I'm happy. I clearly should've worked on that booking much earlier -- didn't realize just how much demand there would be. Will definitely use PRICELINE link next time!
  11. Just throwing out -- I bid $125 in all zones (all 2), all star levels for one night. Looks like I'm going to have a rough time -- hotwire's best is $269/night! Nothing on airbnb. Used the hotwire and PRICELINE links - as always.
  12. Did downtown + rebid zones until I got to doing $75 with Mount Pleasant. Did Mount Pleasant with rebids until I got it at $73. Expedia shows $199 for the night - so I'm very pleased!
  13. Not what I was looking for (didn't expect to get it -- as its currently listed 2.5* on the hotel list) Well -- atleast its on the beach, free wifi -- I did $55 3* and got nothing; and then with my only free rebid, airport north, I jumped to $67 -- since I'd bid 4* up to $65, I wanted to get another 4* bid in there in case... probably could've gotten it cheaper than $67 Normal price is $79 per priceline's normal listing, so not much of a discount. used PRICELINE link and hotel maps - which was helpful!
  14. I didn't use it as a 'rebid' per-se -- I actually was okay staying in the Hollywood area (its also very close to the airport) It just so happened that a successful bid triggered for my originally desired zone, instead of the 4* in the Hollywood zone.
  15. Used PRICELINE link. Started at $50 airport $55 airport + airport north $60 airport + airport north + hollywood got this place from airport zone (looks like it jumps around exactly which zone its in) $116/night on Kayak They have a free airport shuttle, but says it only runs til 11pm; of course my flight gets in at midnight. I'll have to see what the setup is there. Either way - less than 10min from airport, so shouldn't be too bad. Overall happy with the deal.
  16. Used PRICELINE link to start my bidding. I did a crazy amount of bidding: 3* all zones but North Myrtle Beach - Little River and Pawley's Island & Murrells Inlet - up to $100 - nothing. Then I started doing 2.5* until I finally got this at $85. New hotel to add to the list: Best Western Plus Myrtle Beach Hotel 9551 N Kings Highway Myrtle Beach, SC 29572 843-213-1440 Room goes for $134/night on their site, similar at Kayak, et al Surprised things are so expensive since I went just a few weeks earlier last year and made out like a bandit - resort for $50/night, etc. (see my other threads) Seems this is a good deal though for so close, holiday weekend, and heightened part of the season.
  17. New hotel for this zone, please update the list: Courtyard By Marriott Norwich Norwich - Uncasville 181 West Town Street, Norwich, CT 06360 7 miles/12 minutes from Mohegan Sun -- not bad. Tripadvisor reviews look good, and seem to indicate there may be free hourly shuttle service to Mohegan sun, which is what we're coming for; so that would be excellent! Marriott website says: Please Note – All rates at this hotel include complimentary in-room high speed Internet access -- so thats good! Certainly a great price: Marriott quotes $129 for tonight there. I'm pleased with my result. Bid strategy: I bid $50 for this zone - told me unlikely, average of $129 No hits, but was offered retry at $61 I Declined Added 2* Old Saybrook Rebid at $55 Got Courtyard by Marriott Norwich
  18. This is a renamed hotel; which should be updated in the listing. Used the PRICELINE link I started bidding 3.5* in this zone; with a million rebids -- started at 35; worked my way up to 50 with nothing -- dropped down to 3* and had only two rebid zones: $30 - got offer for free rebid at $39 ignored it rebid $33 - rejected rebid $37 - accepted! Very pleased with the property, winning price, and location.
  19. Used the car rental PRICELINE link; and bid a TON on DFW -- classes from economy to premium, prices ranging from $9 to $13 and some $14 -- didn't get anything; so gave up. Ended up at Enterprise.com - Used a discount coupon, got 15% off - got an economy car for $9.71/day + taxes == total $84 + more taxes == $93 for 10/14/11 (PM) through 10/17/11 (AM) Had also checked out budget, dollar; carrentals.com, kayak, Expedia -- prices typically were $118, $108, $100... got some as low as $97... in the end; Enterprise won!
  20. Used the PRICELINE link, started at $35 for more days around there, but ended up going for 2 rooms this night and got it for a price I'm pleased with!
  21. Yeah -- I took the approach of putting in a reservation with the Hyatt Regency in Jersey City for my important dates (24 hr prior to stay date cancellation policy); and then as we get closer I'll explore my other options and see what deals I can get for those and/or surrounding days I want to come in early for an event.
  22. Agreed, not sure whats going on -- See other commentary and failed bids in another thread: Priceline Bidding Jersey City
  23. I was doing a ton of bidding the other day in the Jersey City area for 3.5* and 4* hotels -- for 9/24 & 9/25 -- and 9/23 & 9/24 -- AND 9/23 -> 9/26 -- Did many bids starting at $75; worked my way as high as $102 for the full set of days; and bid up to $90 for the other sets... Finally decided to give up and wait to see if hotels just hadn't posted inventory yet since it was so far away. Not sure what exactly is going on, considering the hotels show plenty of rooms; and others have demonstrated getting them for $75->$90/night...
  24. Took quite an effort, but much more pleased with this deal. Started at 3.5* for boulder proper, and bid it all the way up to $115/night with no luck! Started bidding at $60 here, then $65 with Longmont also -- got this with $70. Not bad. Used PRICELINE link, btw for both this and my prior post.
