  1. The 1* Days Inn Moonlight Beach is the only hotel that's come up that's actually within Encinitas proper (reported elsewhere, not on this board). I got a free night and stayed there last year, and for 1 or 2 nights it's not that bad. All the other places that have come up in that zone are in Carlsbad. The Country Inn listed on this board is now a Comfort Inn. Other possibilities not reported on this board include a 2* Fairfield Inn, 2.5* Holiday Inn, and 3* Gran Pacific Palisades. You might consider the Del Mar zone, as it's pretty close to Legoland and the reported hotels there I think offer particularly good quality and value. At 3* there is a good Hilton and Doubletree, and at 2.5* a Courtyard Solana Beach which I think is even better. If you're looking to become more familiar with the area, the San Diego Union-Tribune has an excellent area guide.
  2. Saw this on another forum about an hour before it was shut down. I wish this had been posted in Hotel Deals, as I'd probably have seen it earlier, but certainly better here than nowhere. Fortunately was able to book a week for myself and a couple of others through Travelocity"]Travelocity (for their guarantee) via the BB link.
  3. You might consider the Fairfax zone if you'd like to be close to the Tysons area, where you may be able to get something for around $55 (probably the new Fairfax Marriott).
  4. Welcome. Good news: you're getting a studio suite with a pull-out sofa. Enjoy your stay!
  5. It looks to me like they can simply be merged. The 2.5* Ramada Plaza Pentagon and 3* Sheraton Pentagon South Alexandria from the old Alexandria-Pentagon zone have come up elswehere and are still being reported as possibilities in Alexandria-Old Town. However as they're no longer listed on those chain's websites, they must be either closed or under new ownership and/or managment.
  6. $129 on Marriott.com 3* Holiday Inn Alexandria Historic District $123 on ichotels.com First bid. Your Offer Price: $55.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $15.01 Total Charges: $70.01
  7. $199 on Sheraton.com Key Bridge Marriott $299 on Marriott.com First bid. Your Offer Price: $55.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $15.01 Total Charges: $70.01 Hotwire wanted $68+
  8. $89 on Hyatt.com Sheraton Reston $89 - Sheraton.com First bid. Your Offer Price: $43.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $11.84 Total Charges: $54.84
  9. $229 on Marriott.com Hyatt Fair Lakes $139 - Hyatt.com Started in Fairfax @$49 for 3*, increasing by $2. Your Offer Price: $55.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $13.27 Total Charges: $68.27
  10. I don't recall that hotel being a 4* on Priceline. In any event I'm sure it's been a 3* the vast majority of the time if not always. It's probably still possible that it could come up, although there are so many 3*'s in that zone it's entirely unpredictable as to when.
  11. You must have decided to go with a different hotel than the 4* listed at the top of the thread, as Hotwire separates Leesburg and Fairfax, and there are no 4*'s in Leesburg.
  12. More than I would have thought it would take given the regular rate - must be the cherry blossoms. Dont forget to sign up for Omni Select Guest. Priceline stays qualify for all benefits except frequent flyer miles.
  13. A round trip on Amtrak from BWI to DC is only $16.50 per person using discount code H570 (which takes 25% off) and takes just about 25 minutes. There is also the state run MARC train for $12, but Amtrak is clearly a better value - faster and more comfortable.
  14. Glad everything worked out. Could you check your winning bid to confirm that the Washington Hilton was rated a 4*. If so it's been recently upgraded from a 3*. Thanks.
  15. I think they agreed with you that you ought not to have to stay there, but that it wouldn't be a good precedent to allow a cancellation based on poor tripadvisor reviews, so they conveniently found another reason they could hang their hat on.
  16. Acutally you might start with $70. On second though I seem to recall doing a rate check when this $70 bid was posted, and I believe the prevailing rate was also $249 (which was surprising to me).
  17. I'd be very happy with this. Reviews much better than the Latham. Truly right in the heart of Georgetown. I've seen this come elsewhere once recently on Priceline as well.
  18. The best zones for you would be Downtown/White House, Convention Center/Capital Hill and Dupont/Woodley Park. Rates are generally high for that night with some places requiring a 2 night minimum. But with prevailing rates of $279 for the JW Marriott (Downtown/White House zone) and $249 for the Omni (Dupont Circle/Woodley Park) , I think a 4* is within striking distance for under $100. So if you want to pamper yourself, I'd try a 4* bid up to $100 with $80 probably being a good starting point.
  19. Wow, they must have done that very recently as I've seen a winning bid elsewhere reported on 1/20 with the Hyatt as a 4*. I guess Priceline agrees that it's lost some of its luster. :) If there's no more 4* bidding in the Dulles zone, they've also dowgraded the Hyatt Reston from 4* to 3* - although perhaps that was done even earlier.
  20. It's also an exact match for the Hotel Solimar, which is just 2 blocks up from the Omni going away from the Convention Center. So still close, but perhaps not the closest.
  21. Whoops, seems to be gone now from ichotels and Travelocity"]Travelocity.
  22. May through October. 1 Baht = 2.5 cents. Also available on Travelocity"]Travelocity. With their guarantee I think they're the most likely to honor the rate.
  23. This hotel was actually fomerly a Holiday Inn but has been very thoroughly renovated to the point where it looks like a brand new construction. I drive by it all the time and it looks quite nice. It's adjacent to Fair Oaks Mall and about 15 minutes from Dulles Airport. Although a 3*, the newness factor arguably makes it a better alternative than the 4* Hyatt Fair Lakes, which is getting rather tired.
  24. The Capital Hill Suites is coming up for $83 (w/2 people selected) now for 3/20. If you end up wanting to stay there I would bid on Priceline first, as they may very well have availability and for less than $55 for double occupancy. Better to try that before giving in to Hotwire's petty $20 increase for the second person.
