  1. Correct me if I am wrong - after 1st bid at 4* is rejected in Downtown, you can make 4 more bids at the 4* star level by adding each of the other zones on each bid and presumably marginally increasing your bid amount with each bid, up to your maximum with each sucessive bid; if all rejected at 4* level, you can drop down to 3-1/2* star level - only include downtown area, if rejected, then you can make three more bids at this level by adding the Gloucester, Trevose and City Line zones with each successive bid (do not add University area since this zone has a 3-1/2 star and you would risk getting the "win" in this zone rather than the Downtown zone); if all 3-1/2* bids are rejected, you can drop the star rating to 3*; then bid 3* star in Downtown zone only; you can then only make more bid at the 3* level, by adding the Gloucester zone (the other three zones all have 3* hotels and you would risk have your win in one of those zones). If you are not sucessful at this point - you would have to wait 24 hours to make your next bid unless you would be willing to make some other change.
  2. An overnight stopover from Evansville, IN to Pittsburgh - Was hoping for Crowne Plaza North, initially bid 3-1/2* @ $31 for Columbus North; then $ 34, by adding the Airport zone; then $ 36 by adding a zone which did not have a 3-1/2* hotel - this was rejected, but received counteroffer of $ 46 - which I did not take. Then tried a different approach - hoping for one of two Courtyards in the Airport zone - bid $ 35 in airport zone rejected; added the Columbus North and increased bid to $ 40 - accepted by Holiday Inn - Worthington. Not what I was hoping for - but since it is only overnight stay, no big deal.
  3. I bid through Priceline, so I will start a new thread on my "win" over to the Priceline Board.
  4. I have been watching the resort bidding in WDW Zone for an upcoming trip. If you bid in that zone for resorts you have to be satisfied with the Hilton, because, if available, on Priceline for your dates, this will be the most likely "win" because its price is normally under the other resorts in that zone. Overbidding may work and or it may not, because of the incremental pricing the hotels give to Priceline -you may get a different resort or you may get the Hilton at a higher price than if you started bidding lower. My strategy - when I get closer to my travel date - if I can not find a hotel on Hotwire that I am fairly certain I can identify at a "good" price, I will then bid on Priceline the 3-1/2* zone in WDW (all hotels currently on the list I would be satisfied and close to the area I want to stay - although I know there is no guarantee that I will get one of these or could get bumped to a 4*); if I am not happy with the price at the 3-1/2*, I will bid the resort zone next - knowing that I am probably bidding on the Hilton - if I do not "win" in the $60's dollar range, and keep increasing the bid - I think once I get into he $ 70s range I would have a chance for one of the other resorts in that zone.
  5. I am familar with this area, but I do not think you can pinpoint a particular hotel on PRICELINE. Most of the hotels in this zone are in the Monroeville area close to the PA turnpike interchange. There is a 2* reported on this Board's list as the Holiday Inn Parkway East. This hotel is not in the Monroeville area, but in an Eastern suburb between Pittsburgh and Monroeville. Although this is the only 2* on the reported list in this zone, there may be other possibilities if you bid a 2* that have not been reported. I am not sure of the purpose of your trip, but if I was bidding in this zone I would try to maximize my chances of getting a hotel in the Monroeville area, which has a lot shopping areas and restaurants. I would try to bid a 3* first, then a 2-1/2* if I could not get a good price a 3*.
  6. Thanks for info - I may not be permitted to stay in the area since we (PSU) beat them in Columbus last year - I'm not too happy with OSU either since they "stole" their quarterback from wife's hometown.
  7. The Steelers are playing the Titans on the night of 9/10, so hotels in the Downtown area will be tough to get for that night.
  8. Check-in 10/11, check-out 10/12; just an overnight stay while traveling; 2 adults, 2 kids (ages 9 and 6); looking for 3* or 3-1/2*; budget is flexible; willing to take chance on Priceline even though occupancy for more than 2 is not guaranteed, unless a find a good deal on Hotwire; seems like there more and better hotels north of Columbus than South or East; I will be driving to Columbus on I-71N from the Cincinnati; then after leaving Columbus going on I-70E towards Pittsburgh.
  9. I am traveling with the family from Evansville to Pittsburgh in early October and will need an overnight stay in the Columbus area. Looking for 3* star hotel or above, and the South or East areas would make the most sense from a driving perspective. However, there is very little on the Hotwire and Priceline lists in these areas. Would it make more sense to go into the Downtown area, as it does not seem very far out of the way - although I think most of the hotels in Downtown will charge a $ 20, or so, parking charge. Or does anybody have any other recommended zones?
  10. Follow up report to my stay - Hotels in the Allentown, Bethlehem & Easton areas were very close to being fully booked for this weekend. Felt fortunate to get this hotel on Hotwire about 3 weeks ago for $ 59.00. Most hotels were going for $ 110 - $ 200 range, including the Hotwire listings. This hotel was fully booked about 10 days prior to my trip. Hotel was an older hotel with 192 rooms - all on two floors in one building (long walk to lobby area if you were in the back of the hotel). The rooms were fine - they had been refurbished but still had an older look to them. The exterior of the hotel, by the rooms, was in need of refurbishment as it appeared to be the original construction. The lobby/restraurant area, both interior and exterior, was nice and updated. Rooms had frig, microwave and and extra sink adjacent to the bathroom. Hotel had a very nice, large outdoor pool with a enclosed bar by the pool. Based upon the age of the hotel, I would consider this a 2-1/2* as rated by Priceline rather than a 3* as rated by Hotwire. I would have preferred a newer hotel, but based upon on lack of rooms in the area I was happy with my stay and this hotel.
  11. Made an initial bid of $ 37.00, and received a counteroffer of $ 44.00 which I accepted. We are driving from Pittsburgh to Evansville, IN, for a wedding, and needed a place to stay at about the 1/2 way point of the drive. I was comfortable with all of the 3* hotels in the Airport area on the BB list and would have been satisfied with any of them. I thought I may have been too early to get a good price. The 3* showing for this the Airport area on Hotwie was $ 64. I do not think it was the Hyatt as the amenities did not match. I used the PRICELINE link on BB to make this purchase.
  12. Wanted to let you know that the PRICELINE area for Universal also includes the SeaWorld area. If you bid on PRICELINE, you could get a hotel around the Convention Center, SeaWorld or south of SeaWorld, as well as the area around Universal. HOTWIRE splits the Universal and SeaWorld into two areas - so if you use HOTWIRE you know you will get a hotel fairly close to Universal.
  13. Thanks for the help, but we did not book any hotel by the Newark airport. We had a connecting flight with a tight connection and decided to stay with that and it ended up working out good.
  14. Best Western Lehigh Valley and Conference Center - $ 59.00 Amenities Airport Shuttle Complimentary Continental Breakfast Fitness Center Business Center Restaurant Laundary Facilities Pool Hotel rates seemed very high in the Allentown area for this weekend. Other than this hotel, the other hotwire rates for 2*, 2-1/2* and 3* hotels were high.
  15. Thanks for the tip on the area. I was considering driving my wife and kids to Newark across PA for an international flight that is leaving on 6/23. They do have a connecting flight into Newark, but it is on a small commuter plane; &, my wife, who is not crazy about flying, does not like to fly on small planes. I will have a car, but it sounds like an area to avoid. I will look for something closer to the airport.
  16. Help ID a 2.5* hotel in Newark Int Airport-EWR Area 1 night; 2 adults/2kids, 1 room, for 6/22/09 check-in, 6/23/09 check-out, $ 60.00 following amenities Airport Shuttle Smoke Free Rooms Complimentary Breakfast Fitness Center Business Center Laundary Facilities Internet Access Would this be the Comfort Suites, since there is no pool listed? The other two 2.5* on the betterbidding list of 2.5*, Country Inn and Suites and Wyndham Garden, both have pools. Thanks for any help.
  17. A bit tardy in posting, as I joined the Boards after I won. Date of Win - May 31, 2009 Four Points by Sheraton Studio City $ 38.00 per night for June 26-June 28 3* Hotel in Universal-I North Area Only Amenities Listed on Hotwire were Swimming Pool Internet Access I believe the price is now higher HOTWIRE for my dates - $ 43.00.
  18. Not sure if this will help you. I obtained the Fours Points Studio City about a week ago through Hotwire - it was a 3* for $ 38.00 night, for 2 adults, for June 26 - June 28, & only amenities listed were pool and internet access (I assumed there would be more amenities than those listed since it was a 3* hotel, and according to the hotel's web site there is also a restaurant, business center and fitness center.) This was my first Hotwire purchase, and I actually did not check out these boards until after I made the purchase.
