1. I had already obtained the Ramada for this night, but needed a second room at the last minute. It looked like the Ramada was available on Priceline Express for $ 59, on the day we were check it in. I decided to see if I could get it on name your own price for cheaper by bidding $ 50 for 2.5 in the South region. The first bid was not successful so I added the Lemont-Dale Summit region and bid $ 53 and obtained the Hampton Inn. It worked out as we were arriving late and only needed the rooms to sleep. The Hampton Inn room was a handicap room with only a single double bid, but we only needed the room for two people
2. Used betterbidding PRICELINE link to make purchase. I was bidding in all three State College zones for either 3* or 2.5*, and won this on my second bidding session. Ramada is not my favorite hotel chain, but the price was a lot better than hotels in State College which still had rooms available for the spring football weekend;
3. Cambria Suites and Marriott City Center are closest to the Consol, both being adjacent to the arena; the Doubletree and Omni William Penn are also very close; the Westin is a bit of a walk - probably 10-15 minute range; hotels close to the Point like the Wyndham are a long walk, but you could also take the Subway from that area (last I heard the Subway is free within downtown stops, but I am not sure on that point) to the BYN Mellon Center stop which is by the Omni and Doubletree - about 5 minute walk to the Consol.
4. I was fooling around with this for a few weeks and not really see any good rates on HOTWIRE or PRICELINE. Was hoping to keep total costs under $ 200, but I guess $216 is not that bad. I was bidding on a few car sizes, but Standard seemed to be the lowest rate on both HOTWIRE and PRICELINE for this holiday weekend. I was consistently getting a prompt from Priceline that my bid was too low and suggested bidding $44. Once my previous bids were denied, I usually received a counteroffer of $ 45. This was going to be my last bid on this bidding session. I did have a lower backup rate through Enterprise by a total of $ 30, but it was in Naples and would have required somebody to pick us up at the Ft. Myers airport and drive us to Naples (where we were ultimately going, but I did not want to bother this person to pick and take us to the airport.)
5. For an overnight stay for an earlier morning flight - I believe I had 13 re-bid zones for 3.5 star. Started at $ 35 and went in $1 or $2 increments until I won at $ 47. Was not expecting to get this low - at least at this early date, as the HOTWIRE and PRICELINE EXPRESS listings for a 3.5 stars were in the $70's. Used betterbidding PRICELINE link to make the purchase.
6. This property was formerly a Hilton, although the prior owner had financial difficulties and the star rating went down to a 3. This led Hilton to remove it's name from the property prior to the Wyndham Grand taking over the property. I'm not really sure what Wyndham has done to the hotel since they took it over and what future plan they have for it.
7. Used Betterbidding link to make purchase. Amenities: Free Parking Free Breakfast Free Internet Indoor Pool Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pools Laundry Facilities High Speed Internet Access Accessible for Blind Accessible Path of Travel In Room Accessible Accessible Bathroom Handicapped Parking Roll-In Shower 95% Hotwire Rating; 4.5 Tripadvisor Rating; I have not stayed here before, but seemed like a good price for football weekend. Lowest price on Best Western web site was $ 186.00, with a two day minimum stay required for the football weekend. I believe this is a fairly new hotel, which is close to the Nittany Mall - about 3 miles east of the town of State College. I do not believe this has been reported on this site before.
8. A stopover on a return trip from beach to visit some friends. Amenities: free parking; airport shuttle; fitness center and high speed internet access; 95% Hotwire rating; Used betterbidding HOTWIRE link to make purchase.
9. Used Betterbidding PRICELINE link to make purchase. This was a PRICELINE EXPRESS deal. Amenities were Free Internet; Indoor or Outdoor Pool; Free Parking; Restaurant; Business Center; Fitness Center. 8.0 Rating & noted as Guest Favorite I suspected this was the hotel I was purchasing, but was also looking at the Holiday Inn or Wyndham Garden as possibilities.
10. Used better bidding HOTWIRE link to make purchase. This was for my wife and three family members attending a wedding in Geneva. I was limited to Hotwire because of 4 adults in 1 room. I could have obtained a better price on PRICELINE EXPRESS if not for the 4 adults. Also wanted something close to I-90 south of Rochester, for a quick exit back to Pittsburgh the next morning. Amenities: Free Parking Free Breakfast Free Internet Indoor Pool Fitness Center Pool Accessible for the Blind Accessible for the Deaf Accessible Path of Travel In-Room Accessibility Accessible Bathroom Handicapped Parking Roll-in Shower Had a 95% Hotwire Rating. I believe this hotel was not previously reported to the Board.
11. Sorry - I missed that - there was a Handicapped Parking Amenity.
12. I got this for my wife and some of her family members who are going to a graduation party. Amenities are (a lot of them): Free Parking; Free Breakfast; Free Internet; Indoor Pool; Fitness Center; Pool; Business Center; Laundry Facilities; High Speed Internet; Golf Nearby; Accessible for Blind; Accessible for Deaf; Accessible Path of Travel; In-Room Accessibility; Accessible Bathroom; Roll-in Shower. Hotwire rating was 90%. I believe there will 6 going, but I bid for 8 to try to assure two beds in each room. The price had been a few dollars lower a couple of days ago. This was the hotel I was expecting. There was a 2-1/2 star for $ 50 in the Maumee zone whose amenities appeared to match the site's list for the Staybridge Suites, but the Hotwire rating was 65%, and the tripadvisor rating did not match. The Staybridge Suites site was also showing no availability, so I did not want to take the chance. A fair amount of the hotels in the area are showing no availability.
13. Bid $ 42 and received a counteroffer of $ 53. I had two re-bids at the 3*, so I bid $ 46 and was accepted. This hotel was apparently upgraded to a 3* from a 2.5*. I thought this would be either the Springhill Suites or Hampton Inn, as the minimum amenities shown on PRICELINE for a 3* reflected both a free breakfast and a pool. The HI Express, which is in the same Willimasburg Square Complex with these two hotels does not have a pool. I used the Betterbidding PRICELINE link to make purchase.
14. Surprised I got this on a football weekend, but there were hotels with rooms available. I bid at 2.5 for all three State College zones and won on my fourth bid when I bid the Clearfield zone, which was a free re-bid at 2.5 level. Used the betterbidding PRICELINE link.
15. As an interesting side note - the 3* in the Blue Ash zone I was bidding on under Priceline was listed by Priceline as the "best value" in all of the 12 or so zones in Cincinnati, so I was somewhat surpised I did not win by the $ 55 bid. Not really sure how Priceline determines it's "best value" - ratio of price needed for successful bid to the actual price of that hotel or the median price of hotels offered in that zone at that star level or by some other means.
16. Amenities - Indoor Pool; Pool; High Speed Internet; Free Breakfast; Airport Shuttle; Business Center; Golf Nearby; Fitness Center; Laundry Facilities; Free Parking. 85% HOTWIRE approval rating; good reviews on Trip Advisor; $79 on hotel's web site to book; bid on PRICELINE up to $ 55 in both Blue Ash and King's Island; decided to take this HOTWIRE listing to guarantee the 2 beds and free breakfast, rather than take a chance bidding higher on PRICELINE. Used betterbidding HOTWIRE link to make the purchase.
17. I had been bidding off and on over the last two weeks, and suspected that this 3* was the Courtyard as there did not appear to be any other 3* hotels in Clemson at the retail level (and it was also rated a 9 by Priceline). I already had a cancelable reservation at this hotel - I think in the $ 118.00 area. This hotel was available for a non-cancelable reservation at $ 95. I had bid as high as $ 80, but had been going back to $ 65 when starting a new bidding session. I had 3 re-bids at the 3* level, and had also been bidding at the 2.5* level which gave me 3 more bids. Happy with the price, but makes me wonder if I could have got the room for lower. I am going to the Georgia-Tennessee game with a friend in Athens on 9/29, and we decided to check out the Clemson campus as well before we fly out on Sunday night from Atlanta.
18. The Outlets are between Washington and the Meadowlands. There is just one PRICELINE zone for this area which includes both Washington and Meadowlands, and also extends up I-79 to the Canonsburg-Southpointe area. There are more hotels by the Meadowlands because of the Casino located there. Anywhere in this area should be fine for location, but there is only one reported hotel for this zone - Holiday Inn Meadowlands.
19. Bid for several days at both 3.5* and 3* in three zones in Williamsburg. It appears that the Colonial zone is now split into both a Colonial Zone and an Outlet Zone. Tonight I bid $ 84, and received a counteroffer of $ 98. I added the Outlet zone which does not have 3*, and bid the $ 89 and won. I guess prices are higher this time of year in Williamsburg. The Price Line page indicated the hotel name is Williamsburg Hotel, but I also have seen it called Williamsburg Hotel and Conference Center. This hotel was the Marriott, which is on Betterbidding's hotel list. I believe the Marriott removed its name from the hotel earlier this year. Most of the Hotwire listings for Williamsburg had poor ratings, so I decided to use Priceline. I even saw a 1* Hotwire listing with a 0% approval rating. I used the betterbidding PRICELINE link to make the purchase.
20. Started bidding at $ 42. There were 6 re-bid zones at 3.5* level, so I bid in $2 or $ 3 increments and won on my last re-bid. I was fairly confident that this would be the hotel I would win, but the Marriott was also a possibility. I am also working on two separate nights in Williamsburg, but have not had success as of yet. I used the betterbidding link to make the purchase.
21. I suspect the Saturday night (7/14) is what is hurting you here. The Sunday rack rates are a lot less than the Saturday night, and you likely could beat your $ 75 limit if bidding Sunday alone. There are decent rated Hotwire listings for both nights in the low $100's. I would guess if you bid both nights together you may have to bid up into $ 90's until you might be successful. If you bid the nights separately, you run the risk of winning two different hotels and having to check out of one and into the other.
22. Few thoughts - one of the moderators will probably help you on a starting bid amount; you can check reported wins for Priceline on the search screen of the upper right hand corner of the home page (select Priceline Hotel Wins, Pennsylvania, then search Cranberry) - this will give you an idea of the hotels won and winning bid prices; the price you should start your bidding will also depend at the star level or star levels you would want to bid; there is a Hotwire listing for your date for a 3* at $73 with a 100% hotwire customer approval rating - you would not want to bid on Priceline above this amount; I would also ask yourself the question - how far below $ 73 would I want to bid rather than take this Hotwire listing that has a very good rating, other guaranteed amenities, and would also guarantee the bedding for the three people rather than risk a room from Priceline that may have bedding for three, but could only guarantees bedding for two.
23. Amenities - Free Parking; Complimentary Breakfast; Pool; Laundry Facilities; High-Speed Internet. 95% Hotwire Rating; At times when I was running the search different amenity listings appeared, but I believed it to be the same hotel. Although there was another listing at the same price at times with a 85% rating when I ran 2 adults, 0 children which I believed to be the Wyndham Garden. This was the hotel I anticipated winning and I used this site's HOTWIRE link to make the purchase.
24. Thank you for the restaurant suggestions. We will probably eat in NYC on Friday night before the show and in the Secaucus area on Saturday night, so I will run down your suggestions with the family. Also the "win" in the caption should be Sheraton Meadowlands rather than Sheraton Suites Lincoln Harbor, and 3* rather than a 4*. The new amenity of "free internet" on the Hotwire listing would appear to be wrong as the Sheraton's hotel web site indicates it is $9.95 a day.
25. Ended up with Sheraton Meadowlands, 3*, through Hotwire at $70 a night for 5/4/12 to 5/6/12; amenities as follows free parking, free internet, smoke free rooms, fitness center, pool, restaurant, business center, high speed internet, golf nearby (the first two amenities seem to be new). Booked for 2 adults, 1 child (even though we have 2 children - a different hotel was showing for 2 adults, 2 children for $ 103.) My last bid on Priceline for 3* in Secaucus was $ 84. The Sheraton listing on Hotwire dropped from $ 86 to $ 70, so I decided to go that route. I guess with a car I'll explore the transportation options - saw mixed opinions on tripadvisor about the hotel shuttle. I'm a relative rookie in NYC (although my wife has been there a couple of times in recent years), but we are going to show on Friday night at Gershwin Theatre on Friday night and probably shopping and touring the City on Saturday. We are not looking for any fine dining - children are 9 and 11 and pretty open to most types of food.
