  1. Priceline showed the best Seattle deal was a 3* at the airport I bid $60 a night for two rooms for three nights Total with tax was $60 times 6 or $360 plus $66.26 tax or $426.36 The rate on the Hilton website was $179 per night per room plus tax Paying for parking is a drag though Used the Betterbidding link to get to PRICELINE Thanks Betterbidding
  2. We needed a room in Vegas for a Saturday night, and did not want to be near the madness of the Strip. We thought the Convention Center zone might have bargains, since most conventions take place during the week. We bid $61 and got the Renaissance Las Vegas, a nice Marriott property Total cost with tax was $76.22. Free parking but a charge for internet. We walked the mile to the Strip, but should have bought a day pass for the monorail which stops right at the hotel. The walk-up rate for the hotel was $129.
  3. We started with the PRICELINE link to bid for a 3* hotel in Grand Junction for the night of Friday August 13. Our first bid of $60 was accepted by Courtyard by Marriott just south of the Grand Junction Airport. The total for one room was $60 plus $14 tax for a total of $74. The front desk clerk said that the walk up rate for that night was $139, so Better Bidding helped us save lots of money!
  4. We were looking for a place in Glenwood Springs for this weekend. We offered $55 for a 2* in Glenwood and were turned down. We expanded the area to Snowmass (40 miles away) and increased the bid to $60 We got the Wildwood Inn and the total was $120 plus 24.32 tax for a total of $144.32
  5. :) Started with the PRICELINE link to big for a 3* hoptel in the Palm Beach area for the dates of 6/30/11 to 7/02/11/ My first bid of $50 per room per night was accepted by Courtyard by Marriott West Palm Beach Airport. This is the hotel at 600 Northpoint Parkway West Palm Beach Fl The total for two rooms two nights was $200 Taxes and fees $32.92 Total $232.92 I forgot to write down the amenities before I submitted my bid, and the amenities page now listed on Priceline has about 50 items

  9. Tried PRICELINE for 3* at $59 (probably Holiday Inn University). Rejected. Dropped from 3* to 2.5* and rebid $62. AARP rate is about $66, so I need to pay more attention when I bid.
  10. Amenities listed were Casino, Airport Shuttle, Fitness Center, Pool, Restaurant, Business Center, Laundry, WIFI, Golf, Tennis, Spa, Childrens Activities. The final cost was $57 plus $13 tax. After I bought the room, HOTWIRE warned me that the hotel would probably also charge me a $10 resort fee. When I checked in I paid $10 plus $1.13 tax for a total of $11.13. The other RNO airport hotel with similar amenitites and a 4.5* rating is probably also Grand Sierra Hotel based on previous Betterbidding Posts. So I could easily have spent $72 plus tax instead of $57 plus tax for the same hotel. The airport bus starts running at 5:00am so I had to pay $10 for a cab ride to catch my 6:00a flight. I used the HOTWIRE link on Better Bidding
  11. We bid $105. PRICELINE came back with a counter offer of $127. Said it was making a counteroffer because of the limited number of hotels in the zone. We did not accept the counter offer.
  12. We are going on an Alaska cruise and wanted a downtown hotel near the cruise terminal. Based on recent bids we tried $85 and $100, and both were rejected. We got a hotel through Expedia instead.
  13. My original dates were April 7 to April 10. Based on Better Bidding posts, I started with $65 for 4* and worked up to $75 for 2*, with no luck. So I used Expedia to see if I could diagnose the problem. Expedia showed plenty of cheap rooms for 4-07 and 4-08, but only expensive rooms or sold out on Friday 4-09. So I changed my dates and had success on my first bid. 4* Hilton New Orleans Riverside (Convention Center Warehouse Arts). My first bid of $65 per night for two nights (4-07 to 4-08) was accepted. With taxes and fees, the total was $159.20 for two nights. The cheapest rate on the Hilton site was $329.41. I will try to find a place for the third night after I get to New Orleans! This shows that convention center hotels can be a real bargain when there are no conventions! Thank you Better Bidding. Don't forget to use the link to HOTWIRE and PRICELINE.
  14. The amenities for the Liason Capitol Hill are: Fitness Center, Restaurant, Business Center, Hi Speed Internet (WIFI). Thanks for the reminder on how to look up the amenities! I will try to be more careful in the future as I jump between the list of hotels, the recent successful purchases, and the Hotwire page. I think that I merely managed to confuse myself, since I started the whole exercise trying to get a 3* hotel. In general I like Hotwire for last minute purchases, but feel that Priceline is better for advance purchased. I would not use either one ever unless I had access to a great user group like Betterbidding!
  15. We thought we were getting a second room at the Henley (see the post below), but got the Liason Capitol Hill. The price and amenities were the same but the star rating changed. It pays to pay attention!
  16. We thought we were going to get the Four Points, but got the Henley instead. Four Points has a pool. Henley does not. I should have paid more attention to the amenities. The Four Points is a bit tired and dirty, so hopefully the Henley will be better. :)
  17. We used the link to PRICELINE. We bid $50 ($62 with tax) and got it first time.
  18. This hotel is the Holiday Inn Gaithersburg, MD 2 Montgomery Village Avenue Gaithersburg, MD Amenities are Fitness, Pool, Restaurant, Business Center, Laundry, WIFI This is a nice new hotel and was a pleasant surprise. The hotel is in Travelocity for $120 so HOTWIRE is the way to go.
  19. Rocky and I spent three nights at the Ramada Inn and Conference Center. The amernities listed are Restaurant, Fitness Center, Pool, Laundry, and WIFI The property is an old Holiday Inn Holidome, but we had fun in the pool and hot tub. The hotel is in Travelocity today for $42 with 3 stars Reviews on Travelocity are not very good
  20. Fredericksburg is a very important town for people interested in the Civil War. The nearby battlefields include Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Spotsylvania, and the Wilderness and all are part of the National Park System. Rocky and I had a great three day visit. HOTWIRE has a 2.5 star for $48 with restaurant fitness pool laundry and WIFI It is the Ramada Inn and Conference Center located on the south side of town. The restaurant was okay, but we had most of our breakfasts at Waffle House which is within walking distance. The hotel is a dumpy old Holiday Inn Holi-dome, but I found it rather charming in a rather retro fashion. The rooms were clean and quiet if a bit shop-worn. The public areas were right out of the Seventies! The price was very reasonable.
  21. The Hotwire rate was higher than the walk-up rate they quoted me over the phone ($59) The property is an old tired Holiday Inn. The pool has been closed for about a month, but is scheduled to re-open soon. The location is on the south side of town between the Interstate and the Union Pacific Railroad. I was worry that it would be noisy but it was not. The breakfast included cooked to order omelettes, and was okay. :)
  22. This 2.5 star hotel has breakfast, pool, and WIFI, and was one of three Laramie hotels listed.
