  1. Placed a bid of $50 for this area and was awarded the Doubletree by Hilton. Have stayed here many times and am always happy to get this property. Used a link thru betterbidding to get there. Total with fees/taxes is $65.01 Booking with Doubletree direct starts at $140 for this same night!!! Thanks again Betterbidding and Priceline. Look out Minnesota State Fair here we come!!!
  2. Stayed here 1 nights stay on a Sunday 5/27/12 - during a holiday weekend. I have to be honest and say that it looks dated from the outside. The property is basically 5 different buildings which to me shows it's age. We were able to check in a full hour early (2pm). Staff was very nice and had no problems being with priceline. **BIG TIP** upon checking in ask for a room with a balcony - it's a little more free room and you will see what I mean when you arrive - nothing bad about it just extra space to sit outside attached to your room. Anyway we got a balcony and it was nice to be facing Mt. Rushmore Road. The building is older but the room was very nice. By older I mean they have a window style air conditioner that is in the wall and base board heating. The bathroom is very nice by my standards... it is big and the shower was great. We had two beds in our room which were nice and soft. We all slept great. The room hs a nice TV with plent of channels, clean all the way around. Breakfast is in the main office building where you check in. By far one of the best setups for breakfast I have seen in a long time. Upon check in I was told the breakfast the following morning was Biscuts and Gravy... They were good. The make your own waffel was also good and didnt stick to the waffel maker. There were eggs as well which tasted fresh. Other bread items and cereal items as well. No reason to leave this place hungry that is for sure. My wife did say upon arrival - "what kind of place did you get us" When we left she said "wow, it was really a nice place". We both agree that we would stay there again. Hotel is about 10 minutes from the interstate and right along the main highway (HWY16) that gets you into the black hills. 2.5* is what I would give this just based upon the 5 different buildings the rooms are split up into.
  3. Stayed here for a 1 night stay on a trip from Minnesota to the Black Hills on Thursday 5/24/12 . Traveling with the wife and two children ages 6 & 4. Upon arrival we waited for 15 minutes while the front desk person was on the phone. She was polite about being on so long and assisting someone in booking for a future stay... however seemed long especially after I had worked for 9 hours and then driving there for an additional 4.5 hours. The property is older but seemed full. The person behind us asked if there were any open rooms and were told they were all full. For it being a full hotel it was very quiet. The room was very basic. Two beds, nice TV, sink in the main part of the room with the toliet and shower in their own little room. I've never liked this set up in hotels with the sink, shower and toliet apart for each other - tells me they are just dated and older. The room seemed clean. We had a microwave and fridge. The fridge was turned off upon arrival and we had to get it cooled down before we could fill it up with our things for the long road trip. When we turned the lights off and went to bed the red neon on the outside of the building which crosses the entire roof line glowed around the curtians. It felt like we might be sleeping in a pay by the hour kind of hotel - the kind with loose ladies a foot... which there were none to be found. Following morning, there was free breakfast. Very limited here. There was toast, 1 kind of mini muffin, 2 kinds of cold ceral, make your own waffel - which stuck to the waffel maker each time and basiclly you pulled it out in large chunks. Lets just say that I wasn't impresed with this at all. Overall I would book direct with another hotel in the area vs trying priceline for this specific area. There are plenty of coupons out there to help save money. I booked via price line and saved $0.98 compaired to booking directly with their online website... not much of a big savings here. Would rate this place at a 1.5* tops
  4. Bid of $40 for a 1 night stay June 9th (Saturday). Picked the 3.5* area and bid was accepted on 1st bid. Have stayed at the Doubletree many times and just love it, really wonder if I should have started a little lower, but the cookies upon arrival that staff will give us will make up for it. Total with taxes/fees is $52.53 Of course linked up through the PRICELINE link on the betterbidding.com website. Will leave a review upon the return from the vacation.
  5. First few bids for this area were $25, $29, $30, $33, $35, $37 and $39. All were rejected . Placed a bid of $40 which was accepted at the Days Inn. With taxes/fees the total amount is: $52.87 If you book directly with the Days Inn via their website and are booking at least 14 days in advance, they offer a discount that way as well. I had been checking this prior to my final bid so I knew what I could safely bid up to without over paying (I had been checking the Days Inn and Howard Johnson websites as I knew that these properties were both normally rated 2* and they are in Oacoma SD - Howard Johnson's room rate is $10-$20 higher than Days Inn). If I had booked online at the Days Inn vs. Priceline the total amount would have been $53.83 which means that I saved $0.96 by using Priceline... this is by far the lowest amount that I have ever saved... if I did my math correct I saved 1% . I guess one could have waited until 13 days out to bid and then the savings may have been more (rooms would then go for $66.79 on their website). Upside to this is that they do have breakfast that is free so I will make sure that the family is loaded up on that before we leave. We were just looking for a place to sleep after working all day and then driving all afternoon/evening on the way out to Rapid City. Glad we got this property, just wish the savings would have really been something. Used the PRICELINE link through betterbidding.com and will leave a review of the property upon our arrival home from the trip.
  6. 2* Hampton Inn Minneapolis/Bloomington West/MOA April 11-13, $49 a night, with taxes total is $119.08 Not 100% happy with this and it was partly my fault as I clicked a different star rating vs a different area when re-bidding. I was looking to get the Doubletree and after a failed bid selected a different star rateing (1*) knowing that there were no 1* in that area... priceline gave me a "free upgrade" which wasn't what I was looking for! Anyway, we have stayed at Hampton Inn's before and they are nice, just wanted a more upgraded stay - having surgery done on the 12th!! The plus side to all of this is that this Hampton Inn is just down the street from where my surgery will be done so it will work out great for my wife who has to drive me there and then drive back to the hotel while I am under the knife! As always we will leave a review when the stay is completed and we used the PRICELINE link through Betterbidding.com!
  7. Winning bid of $49 for 1 night stay (Sunday May 27th) - total w/taxes is $62.82 ***ATT Betterbidding.com*** You have this listed as a 2*, Priceline has it listed as a 2.5* Not 100% excited to get this hotel as I have lived in the Rapid City area but that is what Priceline is all about, It does have a good location right on Mt. Rushmore Road in Rapid City which is close to everything a person needs.... I was just wishing to be close to the interstate to hit the road right away in the morning... have about a 10 minute drive I would guess to get there now.... Will leave a review of this hotel when the stay is completed... and like always used your link to get to PRICELINE.
  8. I would look at Blooming West or MOA area.... as the previous post said that area always has hotels open..... The Bloomington West Double Tree is very nice.... I would say more than 3.5* closer to 4* but that's just me. The MOA area is nice because you can be one of the first on the lightrail and sit the entire way to the game.
  9. Placed a bid for 3.5* for Bloomington West MOA - 1 night stay 9/2/2011 (going to the Minnesota State Fair the next morning). First bid of $45 was rejected and was given a counter offer of $57. I declined that and added the Metrodome area, as that area does not have any 3.5* hotels. Placed a bid of $51 and it was accepted. Total for the 1 nights stay with taxes and fees is $70.08. We have stayed at this property many times (Sheraton) but this will be the first time as the Doubletree. I'm sure that not much has changed other than the name. We were glad to get this property due to the fact that they have a large pool and this is the first time we will be taking our kids (5 & 3) to a hotel. Normally we get the king size bed in the room upon check in.... never had to ask for it. This time I plan to call ahead and ask for 2 queen beds just so I don't end up sleeping on the floor! Of course we used the PRICELINE link thru betterbidding.com as always.
  10. Just stayed there in November 2010. I have to say this is the 4-5 time we have been there and loved it each time. Everything went smooth. We did learn something this past visit. If you are in the large tower ask for a even room numbe if you are getting a king size 1 bed. Rooms feel bigger, have a couch. We were on the 19th floor which is a "special" floor - the room had a free bottle or water. Not sure if this is what makes this floor special.
  11. Booked the Bloomington Sheraton 3.5* for 2 nights 11/19/2010 & 11/20/2010 for $40.00 per night through priceline. Linked up through betterbidding as always. Have stayed at the Bloomington Sheraton before and am happy to be staying there again. Regular price is $120/night, my total with taxes/fees came to $98.30. Picked the Mall of America West area, picked 3.5 star and put a bid of $40 in. Had it not been accepted I would have added a 4* and re-bid little higher as there are no 4* in that area that I am aware of. Got lucky and got it on the first bid, I've never paid under $40 or over $50 and have stayed there many times.
  12. I've stayed at the Depot once and found that it was a very nice place. There was no free parking when I was there - something like $12 for the day but it's better than having your car towed and impounded in the Twin Cities. Easy walking distance to things. I did win it through PRICELINE in 2002 for $40.00 a night - and that was on a summer weekend. I'm sure that prices have gone way up from those days.
  13. Left a hotel review on this stay/hotel in the hotel review section. Betterbidding.com can't live without it.
  14. Just got back and left a review of this hotel in that section. Gotta love betterbidding.com - I tell all my friends.
  15. Stayed July 1 2009 booked thru the betterbidding link for Priceline - $52.00 The good: The hotel is easy to find - just look for the tall round building in the center of town. It is only 2-3 minutes from the waterfront and all the places you could want to see. Staff was really nice and gave us a king bed (select comfort) when we asked. We also got a 2-4-1 coupon to the bar on the main level to use that night. Parking is easy to use and free. We did not check out the pool even though it has one. The bed was nice - never slept on a select comfort bed before and while I woke up refreshed - glad to say that I don't own one because I would play with it every night. The bad: This hotel for better use of words is old. You can tell that it was built before fire sprinklers were the norm as you can see that "housing" that hides the water pipes in the room/hallway. The elevator is old and slams shut making you think is it even safe. There was water damage around the window in our room - the wall paper was pulling off the wall. The windows are old and need to be replaced. The bathroom tile needs to be redone and some basic upkeep needs to be done around the fixtures. They have a revolving resturant on the top floor which has 10 things to choose from and are all way over priced (Salad $12, Fish Sandwich $23 - There was a $5 coupon that we found on the "Harbor News" sheet that tells you when the ships come into port). The food that you could get in the bar is the same as this resturant which again was all over priced. There was no popcorn in the bar which made you wonder why they weren't staying open past 10pm that night - but yet they had 4 TV's with different things on all of them! The bowling alley across the street was a much better place to eat and cost way less! Overall this place is very close to being a dump - it may have been a nice place in 1975 but it isn't any more. I really hope that if I ever go to Duluth MN and Priceline hotels again that I never get this place. 2 stars at best for all that is wrong with this place.
  16. Stayed June 28th 2009. Used the link thru betterbidding for priceline and got it for $40.00 The good: Hotel is in a really easy location to find. Easy to get to the waterfront (very short drive 5-10 minutes), major stores, places to eat, things to do. The free breakfast was really good food. This place is totally kid friendly and business travel worthy. Rooms (we had a king) was set up nice and easy. TV was good with plenty of channels. The staff was helpful and gave directions and free map to places in Duluth. The room was very nice and clean. The bad: The hotel bed was hard as a rock. Both my wife and I woke up and were just glad to be awake because we didn't have to sleep in it any more. Our room was right next to the ice and vending machine which got used plenty. The door to our room showed plenty of light around the edges which would contribute to the above noted noise. The room was either hot or cold - we couldn't get that happy medium. Overall I was glad to get this room/motel at this price. I would not be upset at all to get it again - I can live with a little back pain in the early AM.
  17. Bid 2 star level again for Duluth in hopes to get the same hotel on the way back as our first bid. Placed a $40 bid thru the PRICELINE link on betterbidding. Price was rejected asking for an additional $12. Decided to do it just because it was only $12 more. Got the: Radisson Hotel Duluth Harborview 505 West Superior Street Duluth, Minnesota 55802 for $52 + taxes and fees = $66.24, this hotel was a upgrade to a 3* Again very happy - checked the hotel website and rooms for the same night are going for $126.65, saved $60.41!!!!!!!! We will leave reviews of both places upon our return home!
  18. Fairfield Inn by Marriott Duluth Minnesota 6/28/2009 1 night stay Priceline bid of $40 accepted. Bid was for a 2* but got free upgraded to the 2.5* level. Used the PRICELINE link thru Bettterbidding.com
