  1. I got the Crown Plaza for jazz fest. Was hoping for Hyatt but cant beat the price. Saving this much I can get a VIP pass....
  2. I ended up going to priceline instead. I will post results over there. Sorry for confusion.
  3. Maybe one is the whyndam near crown plaza? Or Hilton Garden Inn maybe? Are those 3*?
  4. I bought from hotwire 2-3 years ago, the hyatt for around 45/night for memorial day weekend (jazz festival). This will be for 2 adults or 2 adults and 2 kids. Assuming now just 2 adults. I was trying to do the same last year but nothing was available in that range. This year I am looking and I see a 2*, 3* and 3.5* in downtown jacksonville for 5/27 - 5/29. I am not sure which hotel is which because your site lists crown plaza as 3.5* and hyatt as 4*. So I think things have changed since I do not know that any new hotels have been built. I know that the Hotels.com listed price option on hotwire for crown plaza lists it as a 3.5* (shows up when checking 5/27-5/29 for 2 adults and 2 children). So was the Hyatt downgraded all the way to a 3 or is it possible that hotwire unlisted price and Hotels.com listed price on hotwire have crown plaza at two different star ratings? Does that make sense? I know neither guess is a sure thing but I would prefer the Hyatt. In other questions, the Omni listed as Hotels.com listed price is 4* but there is no 4* option for unlisted. Is it that Omni is not available or could hotwire have it has a 3.5* and have a different star rating system than listed Hotels.com. Here is what I am looking at: 3-star hotel in Downtown Jacksonville is what i am looking at getting for 48/night. This hotel features the following amenities: Fitness Center Guests have access to exercise equipment; an additional charge may apply. Pool(s) Property offers at least one pool area; hours and dates of operation may be seasonal. Restaurant(s) Property offers at least one restaurant on the premises; hours and days of operation may vary. Business Center Guests have access to business equipment and services; an additional charge may apply. High-Speed Internet Access Guestrooms are equipped with high-speed Internet access; an extra charge may apply. Tennis Nearby Property is located within walking distance or a short drive of at least one tennis court; an extra charge typically applies. Please note that Hotwire cannot guarantee the level of services offered at a property and/or if services are operational at the time of visit. Services may be closed due to seasonality reasons and/or may be closed for renovation. The second option is for 73/night: 3.5-star hotel in Downtown Jacksonville This hotel features the following amenities: Smoke Free Rooms Guest rooms at this hotel are always smoke-free. Fitness Center Guests have access to exercise equipment; an additional charge may apply. Pool(s) Property offers at least one pool area; hours and dates of operation may be seasonal. 5. Thanks! We will probably just get cheapest room we can find, I will try to get some of your better ranked rooms though! I found that Chris Botti is playing at Hard Rock on Sunday. Last time I saw him there I had a blast and stayed at Hard Rock Hotel and the bad was in the bar afterwords. Gotta save pennies if I want to stay there though. Garden view are sold out and cheapest rate I have found is 246 after tax. Cant find any good discounts. HW, priceline, Hotels.com, Orbitz are all more than the FL discount rate directly from Loews. Close to I95 would be good for us for traveling back down to central FL area.
  6. Thanks for the information! I was wondering about the prices. I tried priceline up to 40 dollars downtown. No luck. So next week I will try again. I will definitely still stay Friday and Sat but maybe I will try another zone since there are not a lot of acts I am interested in. Also, for the 15 dollar difference we could take a cab or something which is more convenient than walking anyways! What hotels in southside are good?
  7. Since they just announced the artists and they are NO WHERE NEAR as good as last year I am going to wait a little longer and see if the hotels open up their rooms more. Omni's price has gone down already and they are now on HOTWIRE as they were not before. If i dont get a good room I wont worry about it. Not a lot to make me want to stay longer any way.
  8. Oh, but I am not going to book Friday night until I know who is playing. Why haven't they announced the lineup yet? I know Chris Botti is playing Sat because his website says so. Any idea on Friday night? Sunday?
  9. For Friday night 28-29. Hotwire has: There is a 3.5 star hotel for 56 and a 4 star for 106. Wonder why its so much more expensive this year. Just the economy? Ill try priceline for this I think.
  10. Thanks! I was wondering that myself. The hilton and whyndam are about 80-85 dollars b4 tax on orbits etc so if all else fails I can just get one of those. probably wyndham. Those are refundable. when it gets closer I can try priceline. but then again if I am going to pay up front I might as well try priceline first. If it is 79 on Expedia it should be ~40 on priceline. If not that one a similar one.
  11. When I search for one room with two adults more responses come up for 29-30. Before it was two rooms two adults and 4 children. Now there is a three star with fitness center, pool, restaurant, business center, highspeed internet and tennis nearby. 59. EDIT* For 3 adults and 3 children there is a room with same amenities for 69 per night. EDIT 2* For 3 adults and 4 children it dissapears. I am thinking my friend Kathy might also go which means that we would have on Sat 3 adults and 5 children. I wonder if I can rent a house for cheaper.
  12. Hello everyone, I am trying to go to the Jacksonville jazz festival May 28-30. My friend Patty is coming the 29th and I will need two rooms for the 28-29. I am thinking I can get the best deal searching one room 28-29 and two rooms 29-30. Also assures I get the same hotel :). I want to stay in the downtown Jacksonville area ONLY. This is where the jazz fest is (or should be if it is like last year). I would prefer to stay at the Hyatt, Omni or a hotel on the north side of the river. I see there is a Holiday in there but I do not see that on the hotel lists for the area. In fact I do not see any hotels other than the Omni, Hyatt, Crown Plaza, Wyndham, Hilton. From a google search there is one or two nice seeming hotels in addition and the rest are more along the lines of extended stays/I-am-not-certain-I-Want-to-shower budget hotels. Downtown jacksonville seems to change from nice area to not nice area quickly. From my search so far for two rooms 29-30, hotwire shows one two star hotel for 39/nt with amenities of complimentary breakfast and highspeed internet. The lack of good 2 stars on google search makle me weary but it has a good trip advisor rating of 3.5. But for the 3.5 review on trip advisor shows a room that is normal less than 50 for regular rate. Do you think more will open up closer to the date? Priceline shows hotels in 1, 2, 2.5, 3, and 3.5 stars. I only want the 3.5 stars from priceline I think. Lots of easy rebidding because very few areas have 3.5 stars. Last year I went to the same jazz fest and got the hyatt for about 30/35 dollars a night and I bought it 2-3 weeks before I left on the trip from priceline (I think). I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for bidding/buying. And when to buy. This is an event I am definitely going to go to.
  13. Sadly. Very sadly. I can't tell you how sadly. I does not seem that I will be going to new york this winter. My friend who I was going with, whose idea it was, who was paying for half and had a friend in Long Island City providing transport has been told she has two weeks to resign or her position will be brought to review by the district (she is a teacher). So for the time being I am going to assume that my vacation funds for this year will just carry over to a large trip next year. Possibly to Peru to see Machu Picchu. Thanks for the help and if the trip becomes an option before the end of the year I would like a bidding strategy. Thanks!
  14. That would be acceptable. We are not really picky where we stay either so any of the main NYC areas would be fine. Would prefer not to bid in the zones outside the City because the hotels could be far away and not nice neighborhoods. I get paid on Monday, so if I can get my friend pinned down to a date and time, I will start bidding then and see how low it will go. I just noticed that there are several hotels for 160-180 in the 3-3.5* range on the normal hotwire for 1-4 so maybe i can get a pretty good deal.
  15. Do you think since there is a 119 dollar a night hotel in chealsea (3*) on HOTWIRE I could get something less than 100 on priceline (for 1-4)?
  16. The trip is in planning stages because I am having trouble getting good airfare but since new york hotel is hte most expensive part of trip I am most definitely thinking that I would like to get better deal on hotel and then get flight since the prices are not drastically different. I was actually thinking of splitting up the priceline to include the 1-4 and then plan the rest around that. Maybe an airport hotel stay, maybe something in town. I know i can get a room at the cosmopolitan for 558 total for the 1-4th. Average of 160 plus one night that is more expensive I think. It is a room with a queen and a sofa bed. That is my back up, to reserve that hotel (No cancellation fees) and see if i can find a better deal on hotwire/priceline. I suppose we could try each day separately too if we really wanted, but that would be annoying switching different hotels too often.
  17. Hello I was looking over hotels on hotwire and see there is a three star hotel in brooklyn with the following amenities: Boutique Hotel Smoke Free Rooms Restaurant(s) Business Center High-speed Internet Access Only I do no see any botique hotels on the list. It says 10.4 miles to La Guardia and if that is accurate it cant be too far south into Brooklyn, right? The price is 144 a night. Anyone know what this hotel is? There is also a 2.5 star hotel in Brooklyn with free breakfast and high speed internet access which could be the holiday inn express downtown but is also close to the best western amenities. There are also two hotels in Long Island City that are a bit cheaper but that zone is so large I dont want to be tooo far away from NYC. Does anyone have some suggestions?
  18. Hello I am trying to plan a trip to NYC for this christmas/New years time. As this is the most expensive time to be there I am trying to catch some kind of deal. Now I was perusing many sites and saw hotwire has a 2.5 star hotel in Hoboken-Jersey City for 86 dollars (High Speed Internet, Laundry Service and Restaurant are the amenities). So I think this is too good to be because all the other prices are nuts and this seems awfully cheap. It appears that the Days Inn is the only one listed on the site. Is this the one in North Bergen? What kind of neighborhood is it? Is the access to NYC good? Just starting my search now trying to get something affordable enough so that I can go to see a show at blue note in new york and was looking at the jersey side to see what was available cheaper.
  19. Thanks for the review! I am excited now. We are going to a concert at the place on the river that is adjacent to the hotel for the jax jazz fest. Good to know about the parking!!!
  20. Just so everyone knows i booked it through HOTWIRE and got intercontinental for 139. (info in the hotwire section) Thanks for the help!
  21. Found it! This hotel features the following amenities: Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-speed Internet Access Spa Services
  22. After the HOTWIRE / PRICELINE debate I got myself into, I saw that hotwire had this hotel for 139 (sometimes 136). If someone could remind me of where the amenities are after I book I will put them on here. I used the HOTWIRE link from this site! You should too! I love intercontinental hotels! Especially the bathrooms! Woo hoo!
  23. After debating on making sure it was the omni or letting up to chance with priceline I settled for a savings of 25 dollars and got the Hyatt River front. Started at 45 was told for 58 I could have it and then incremented up to 50. Jacksonville Jazz fest here I come!
  24. Ummm...I noticed the hotel review tab...sorry :)
  25. This is my first time posting about a win... started bidding at 40 in Buckhead. Went up 5 dollar increments in zones with no 4* (which there seem to be a lot of for atl, maybe it was a good place for a new person to priceline). 55 won it. Noticed there was a hotel that was probably the grand hyatt on hotwire for 84 (it matched stars, amenities and tripadvisor rating) so thought i would cap it at 84. Didn't make it. I know there are reviews for some hotels somewhere on this site, anyone want to point me in that direction? (or anyone stay there?) Have a good day!
