  1. We just returned from our trip and had a good stay at the Hilton Towers. Good service and comfortable room. Metro station is a good walk away (10-min.) but good service. Lots of good restaurants in the area. We would stay there again.
  2. We just returned from our trip. Our short stay at the Shoreham was very nice. I was disappointed that they put us in the "annex"; an outlying building called the "Parkview". They explained that was only building with rooms available for us. Good hotel service. Very good location close to Metro station and many restaurants.
  3. We needed 1 more nite in the Dupont circle area, after finding the "4* Hotwire" Hilton Washington for 5 nites at $104. I started the rebid strategy with the 4 re-bid zones. Starting at $85 and going up in $5 increments. After I got rejected at the $115 level, I got a offer to "name a price" at least $22 higher. I entered $137 and it was accepted for the Omni Shoreham. Looks good. I used the SavingsBarn.com entry to Priceline. Thanks again for the info and help.
  4. Hotel is located at 1919 Connecticut. Was looking for 6 nites starting 4/18 and the HW showed 1 4* at $255. Dropping back to 5 nites showed the 4* at $104/nite. That is what I bought.
  5. Ah, I found what you saw. HW has the 4* for 4/18-4/23 (5 nites) for $104. I bought it for the 5 nites and it is the Hilton Washington and Towers, 1919 Conn. Pretty crazy pricing on HW as the 4/18-4/24 (6 nites) shows as $255/nite. The Hilton website rate for the 6 nites is $289/nite. Finally, I checked HW for 4* for 4/23 (1nite, and our last nite) and it shows the 4* at $145. I also see that it shows as a 3* on PL and was bought by several in Feb. at $80. So, now I'll look for our last nite 4/23. It would be nice to get the Hilton on PL at $100 or less. Can you suggest a strategy for that? I'll post the 5-nite buy on the HW Wins. Many thanks for great help and your sharp eye on this.
  6. Thks much for the strategy. I just went thru it with the 4 re-bid zones, starting at $75 and ending at $115. No go. I just checked HW for your 4* idea at $105, and nothing there now for that. I did find a 3.5* for $149, and 3* for $139. . Did you mean Wash. Hilton Towers as 3* on HW and 4* on PL? Guess we'll do it again (in 24-hrs.) on PL with a max of $125. any other ideas? Thanks again. Your note: PS- there is a 4* on HOTWIRE which appears to be the Hilton Washington Towers (this is last reported as a 3* on priceline) for $105... so if this property is of any interest to you, you may want to stop bidding at $105 (of course if you prefer the 4* properties on priceline better then you should continue up to your maximum)
  7. Thx for your reply and help. Maximum bid for 4* in Dupont is $115.
  8. We need 1 room for 6 nites; 4* in Dupont Circle. We are set on this area, with no car, but like the Metro. Would appreciate any suggestions on a bidding strategy. I'm familiar with the zone strategy and see where there maybe 4 no-4* zones (ALX, ARL, CRY, and SPR) available. Appreciate any ideas and comments on this.
  9. Sorry for the confusion. We did want to stay in USW and did bid that way. Also, we just got back from our stay at the JW Marriott (USW) and were very satisified and comfortable with our 2 rooms (1 couple each room). We recommend this hotel to all.
  10. Thanks to this Forum, I finally got a decent price for our Jan. 2-nite stay. I used the recommended 3-rebid-zone strategy and started bidding at $65. I tried this 3 different days, increasing the start by $5 each time. The 3rd time, I started at $75 and , on the 2nd to last bid, I got an offer to add $22. I bid $115, instead of the planned $110, and it was accepted. The web rate for "quality room for seniors" is $178. Thanks again.
  11. Thanks much for the bidding strategy. I just tried starting at $70, with the 3 re-bid zones. Finished with last bid of $105 and all rejected. Guess I try again and raise my bids by $5 or $10 ?
  12. Our dates are 11 & 12 Jan. We want to stay in USE only, and in 4*. I'm familiar with the re-bid zone strategy and will do it for the 4* USE, if you'll suggest the specifics. Thanks much.
  13. Have seen the recent successful bids for 4* (USE) at under $100 in Dec.. This is a great service. We need 2 rooms for 2 nites in mid-Jan. and wonder when the best time to bid; before or after New Years?
  14. We just got back from our NYC trip and had a great time. We checked into our backup hotel, as we had struck on on PL bidding beforehand. I turned out that we were paying $250/nite per room for our 5-nite stay in our backup hotel (Affinia Manhatten, 7th Ave & 31st).the On 18 May, I tried to get 2 rooms, 4*, in MTW/MTE/UM for the 3-nites of 5/19-5/22 (c/o). I used the same strategy (2 re-bid zones) and started at $210 and ended at $255. Got rejects for all bids, so we stayed in our backup for the 5 nites. We did enjoy our stay and recommend the Affinia Manhatten. Thanks for all the help.
  15. We decided to try for just the last 3 or the last 2 nites on PL. Not willing to split twice and not move for just the last nite. So I went thru the bid list for 5/19-22 and 5/20-22, starting at $120 and ending at $185 ($10 higher than your list). Got rejected for all bids. At this point , we'll use our backup (3.5*, MTS, $175/couple in a 2-bdrm suite). Thanks for your guidance.
  16. Thanks much for your bid schedule. I checked your bid schedule (4:22pm) against what I had already bid (my post of 5/11 11:07 pm). My bid was for one date combo of 5/17-5/22 and was identical to your schedule except I was higher (at most by $10) for some of the last bids. So, it looks like I have already done the 1st date combo; right? In order to keep our backup intact as our starting hotel (5/17), I would like to use your schedule (revised?) to bid for just 5/19-22 and 5/20-22. Finally, our limit is $195. I would really appreciate if you could post a bid schedule for these 2 date combos.
  17. Price is more of a factor and I would like to split the bid. Use our backup for 1st 3 nites ? Maybe bid for the last 2-nites; May 20-checkout 22 .
  18. Hi, Sorry that I didn't spell out my bidding. It was exactly for the zones and re-bids as you wrote in your may 2 reply to "4* May 27-30". But I can't see that topic anymore (??). So, I started with 4* MTE at $120, added rebid zone at $130, added rebid zone at $145. Started again with 4* UM/CPS and same 3 bids. Started again with 4* MTW and same 3 bids. Started again with 4* MTE + UM/CPS and $150/160/170. Started again with 4* MTW +UM/CPS and same 3 bids. Started again with 4* MTW + MTE + UM/CPS and $175/180/185. Thanks for your help.
  19. Hi, Good to be back here again . Have been a veteran of your bidding advice for some years now. We (2 couples) will be in Manhattan 5/17 for 5 nites, c/o on 5/22, and want to stay in MTE/MTW/UM, at a 4*. So we need 2 rooms for 5 nites. We're willing to split the stay into 2/3 nites (or 3/2) with 2 different hotels. We have a backup in (upper) MTS at the Affinia Manhattan (3.5*) in a 2-bdrm. suite; 24-hr cancel. Our limit is $200 for the 4*. I just went thru the bidding cycle (thru savingsbarn) as you listed in your May 2 note in the topic "*4 May 27 to 30". BTW, on the 3rd set, you had UM/CPS (duplicate) instead of MTW. I started bidding at $120, instead of your $110. I went $120/130/145 , for the 1st 3 sets and all rejected. Then I went $150/160/170 for next 2 sets and all reject. Last set went $175/180/185 and rejected. Thanks for all the good info on this forum. Any advice appreciated.
  20. The amenities listed are: Near Beach Property is located within easy walking distance of a beach. Complimentary Breakfast <amenity names only please... not descriptions> High-speed Internet Access Guestrooms are equipped with high-speed Internet access; an extra charge may apply. BTW, after I made the HW purchase, I went to the Victorian Web site and found that hte y had a best-rate of $89 for my dates! I hope we have a 3* stay.
  21. I started bidding PL for 3* Monterey at $80 on 10/27, for 2 nites starting 12/4 (Sunday). At the time HW showed 3* available at $135. PL rejected at $80. Since then, with 3-day waits, I put in bids of $91, $97, and $103 (today), for the same request. All got rejected. Today HW showed 3* at $94 and 3.5* at $135. I went for the 3* on HW. Got a hotel different from the 3 already listed on BB. So far, so good. :)
  22. Thanks to reading the recent posts on this forum, I went ahead and bid on PL for this 1-night 4* hotel at $67 ; 1st bid, which was accepted. I did check Hotwire for the same date and found 4* listed for $124 and 3-1/2* for $85. Finally, I checked the Sheraton Gateway Web site for same date, senior discount, and rate given was $139. Even with the additional $17+ tax/fee, we're happy .
  23. We had a very enjoyable stay at the Beekman Tower hotel (our backup). We used the backup as we could not get a PL or HW deal that was reasonable. At first, we were uncertain about the location, being so far east of "midtown". But we found that not to be a problem, and there are conveniences close by on 2nd and 3rd Ave. The rooms were good-sized, the kitchens handy, and the staff very helpful. So, we're happy that you recommended the Beekman Tower, and we'll pass that along.
  24. I was curious if we could better our hotel with a 4* in UM/CPS, which seems more central to our activities. But based on this forum and HW listings, it seems doubtful that we could get that at $170. As you say, the Beekman sounds good and we'll adjust to that location. Thanks again for your advice. We'll let you know how our stay worked out.
  25. Thanks much for the names of the Hotwire deals for the 2-nite subset of our 6-nite stay in NYC. The ratings on these hotels are not encouraging, so we'll pass on these HW deals. Sorry about the posting here. I thought I posted on the HW forum but somehow it ended up here in the PL set. I would like your ideas on a new bidding strategy for our 6-nite stay, IF anything has changed since late Feb. to cause hope for success. We would like to be in the UM/CPS and a 4* and can split dates. Based on all you and I discussed in late Feb., I don't see much different now for success in bidding to replace our current reservation at the Beekman for 6-nites at $170/nite (avg.). Would you agree? Thanks again for your good help.
