  1. We have a 3.5* hotel in Midtown-East zone. (49th & 1st Ave).
  2. Thanks again for the great help and the Bid list; it's very useful for tracking each bid entry. And you're right about this expensive time in NYC. I used the bid list all the way and finished at $240 (instead of $235) for the 5 zones, and got rejected :) Our backup is 3* at $280, so at this point, I would like to try again for a 4* with a limit of $280. Would appreciate your bid list with this new limit, and any other ideas.
  3. Many thanks for the clear set of bids. Quite a challenge. Will use your PRICELINE link to begin and will let you know how it goes.
  4. I would like suggestions as to the starting bid price and price increments. Any other suggestions welcomed.
  5. I have been a appreciative user of this forum over the years (and we go thru Savings Barn). Now looking for 3-nites in midtown NYC; 2 rooms. Our max is $230. We do have a backup. I have read the current bid notes for similar 4* dates so I have a good idea of the bidding strategy; 5 bid zones (MTW, MTE, TSQ, UM/CPS, MTS) and 2 re-bid (UWS, UES). I hope I got that right. I would like your current strategy for our specifics. Thanks again for your help.
  6. We just returned from our trip and enjoyed our stay at the Sheraton Park Lane. The hotel is quite old and has been mostly renovated; excellent bed! We had a nice large room that was quiet. The bath was old but adequate. Staff was very good. Location was excellent for us , being close to tube station, and was in a very good area, on Piccadilly. Only negatives was lack of provided breakfast and high-price for internet access. Recommended.
  7. I went thru Savingsbarn and used your bids as written. With the $160 bid for Mayfair, I got a reply that it was rejected but they found a offer for $182 for me, again (still!). I then did the "add Bloomsbury for $165" and got ACCEPTANCE. That's the good news. The mixed news is that I got the Park Lane Sheraton, Picadilly. The TripAdviser ratings/reviews are decidely mixed (to negative). The only review in your forum (aug. 2005) is pretty bad. But, hopefully, we'll get a decent room. I'll report back then Thanks much for all the help.
  8. I went thru Savingsbarn and used your bids as written. With the $150 bid for Mayfair, I got a reply that it was rejected but they found a offer for $182 for me, again (still!). I then did the "add Bloomsbury for $155" and got a reject there. Thanks again for your guidance. Still chipping away.
  9. I went thru Savingsbarn and used your bids as written. With the $140 bid for Mayfair, I got a reply that it was rejected but they found a offer for $184 for me, again (still!). I then did the "add Bloomsbury for $145" and got a reject there. Thanks again for your guidance. Still chipping away. Did notice the 1st-offer matrix screen showed 4* in Bloomsbury at $186. When I clicked on that to "see the hotels", the price changed to $231. I did see a list of the 4-* Bloomsbury hotels but nothing quoted even at $231 (??)/
  10. I went thru Savingsbarn and used your bids as written. With the $130 bid for Mayfair, I got a reply that it was rejected but they found a offer for $184 for me, again (still!). I then did the "add Bloomsbury for $135" and got a reject there. Thanks again for your guidance. Still chipping away. And will reconsider the max as you suggest.
  11. I went thru Savingsbarn and used your bids as written. With the $120 bid for Mayfair, I got a reply that it was rejected but they found a offer for $184 for me. I then did the "add Bloomsbury for $125" and got a reject there. Thanks again for your guidance. Chipping away.
  12. Oops. I didn't mean to use the word "exited". With the $110 bid for Mayfair, I got a reply that it was rejected but they found a offer for $184 for me. I then "added bloomsbury for $115" and got a reject there.
  13. I went thru Savingsbarn and used your bids as written. With the $110 bid for Mayfair, I got a reply that it was rejected but they found a offer for $184 for me. I exited and then did the "add bloomsbury for $115" and got a reject there. Thanks again for your guidance. We're getting closer.
  14. I went thru Savingsbarn and used your bids as written. With the $95 bid for Mayfair, I got a reply that it was rejected but they found a offer for $184 for me. I exited and then did the "add bloomsbury for $100" and got a reject. Thanks for your guidance. Maybe we're getting closer.
  15. I did go ahead and use your bid strategy, starting at $75 . However, when I opened PL for the Mayfair bid, I got the "small chance " message about bidding so low. So I bid $80 for the Mayfair, was rejected, and added Bloomsbury at $85. This bid too was rejected. Ready for another round in 24 hrs. Thanks for your help.
  16. Sorry about leaving that $ out. Max bid amount would be USD 150 . Thx for your help.
  17. Thanks for the comments and ideas. I'll reconsider the HotelClub plan .
  18. Thanks for the feedback on zones. I would like a bidding strategy for the Bloomsbury and Mayfair Zones.
  19. Thanks for comments on Arosfa. We're OK on the stairs. We're looking for a 4* rating for the 7 nites starting 27 Sept (i.e., 9/27 to 10/4 depart.). Zones preferred are Bloomsbury and Mayfair. I would appreciate any comments on whether PL hotels in Kensington and Regents Park might be too distant for us "city-center tourists"
  20. Thanks for the tips, including that for HotelClub.com . I'm not comfortable with the prepaid part on this booking agent, although I see that it's part of Cendant. But I will keep it in mind . I checked the forums for Hotelclub.com and found a few mixed comments. I wonder what recent experience has been withHotelClub.com. Also, I didn't see any way of using them thru SavingsBarn.
  21. We're looking for 1 room for 2 seniors , tourists, in central London near museums, theaters, for 7 nites. We do have a backup hotel, the Arosfa , 83 Gower, Bloomsbury, at GBP 75/nite (bkft. incld.). Would appreciate advice on PL zones for us and a bidding strategy. Thanks for the help.
  22. Thanks to all for the useful info. We'll check out the booking sites mentioned . And book thru Savingsbarn.
  23. This will be our 1st visit to Berlin and we'll be tourists (1 senior couple and 1 senior , 2 rooms) in the city for 7 nites starting 4 Oct. We are looking for a central location. I think this means "Tiergarten" and "East" zones, but I would like suggestions as to the best PL zone for us. We will have the 7-day train/bus passes. We do have a backup hotel, the Park Inn on Alaexanderplatz 7 (located in PL East zone), at euro 102/nite (breakfast and tax included). I have looked at the PL hotel list here and put the few 4* in the list on a Google "mashup" at http://no_screenshots_please.com/2o5l3b . I worry that we might get a "far out" hotel such as Park Plaza Berlin, way east in East zone. So, I would appreciate any suggestions on location and bidding strategy for a 4* in central location. Thanks again for such a helpful service.
  24. Looking for 1 nite 4* at Heathrow and bid $86 on 5/20/07. Bid was rejected but got "try again for +$22". Tried again on 5/21 and bid $96 and that was accepted. My bids were made easier thx to info on this board. Started thru SavingsBarn.
