  1. GREAT idea. I might see what the taxi fare is from the Hyatt Regency down there and if it's more than $6, I'll just hop on the cable car. Thanks.
  2. Started at $89 for Embarcadero. Gradually added USW, SOMA, USE up to $98, then did 3 rebid zones until I got this at $110. Retail price is $169, so not that great a deal, but it's fine. I was hoping for a hotel closer to Bart, but this one has good ratings. Funny I never noticed this hotel before. Should be interesting. Used the PRICELINE link here. Room Subtotal: $110.00 Taxes & Fees: $25.31 Total Charged to Card: $135.31
  3. Started at $75 with financial district, added SFO-Burlingame, USE, SOMA, then several rebid zones until I got to $90. I guess I'm happy. I've always wondered what the Marriott was like, and the rack rate is $249 for some reason. Seems a bit steep for December. And for the airport. With taxes, it's $111.90. Was hoping I'd get something cheaper, but oh well. It's a nice location on the water.
  4. Amenities: Smokefree, shuttle, fitness, pool, restaurant, internet, business, golf 2 adults, 2 kids 80% Hotwire rating; 3.5 Trip Advisor rating (Note: the TA rating doesn't always show up. It just happened to this time.) Booked a day in advance, for our last night before flying out. I figured this was either the Westin or the Hilton. Either would be fine, but I'm glad it was the Westin because it had a great pool for the kids and it was closest to the airport, across the street from a park where we could watch the planes land and take off. Westin wanted $30 extra for a bay view, so I declined. Most hotels (including Embassy Suites earlier in my trip) at least look to see what's available. (And I did get a nice view with Embassy Suites). $20 extra for parking, which I already knew. Used the Better Bidding HOTWIRE link (I think. I had so many windows open, I'm not positive.)
  5. Amenities: Shuttle, Complimentary Breakfast, Fitness Center, Pool, Laundry, Internet Hotwire rating: 100%, Trip Advisor: 4.5, 2 adults, 2 kids I usually use Priceline in Sacramento Natomas--even with kids--and probably could've gotten a 2.5 or 3 for $50 or less, but I figured this was the Holiday Inn Express (based on the TA rating) and wanted to stay in that location (and also have 2 queen beds rather than 2 doubles, which I usually get with PL.) There were only 2 Natomas hotels with 4.5 TA ratings--the other is the Homewood Suites, which is right next door. I would've been fine with either. By the way, HI Express is considered 2.5 stars on Priceline's regular (non-opaque) site. Used the HOTWIRE link here. Thanks.
  6. Forgot to mention I used the HOTWIRE links here for both this and my previous win for the Hyatt Regency Embarcadero. Thanks Better Bidding for all your help!
  7. Amenities: Shuttle, Fitness, Pool, Restaurant, Business center, Internet, Golf Hotwire rating: 90%; no TA rating; 2 adults, 2 kids I had been watching Hotwire for awhile, and usually an $83 4* would come up which I think was either Westin or Hilton (rating of 80% and smoke-free icon). This one popped up once before, and I decided to go for it the second time it came up since I thought it might be the Embassy Suites. Glad I was right. I think my kids will like this (although the ratings are pretty mixed for grownups). By the way, when I searched SFO it came up as $89, but when I searched just plain San Francisco, it came up $2 less. No big difference, but interesting.
  8. Booked this a few weeks back. Amenities: Fitness, Restaurant, Biz Center, Internet; 95% Hotwire rating; 4 of 5 trip advisor. 2 adults, 2 children. I wanted to stay at the Hyatt because of the location, so I was 99% sure this was it.
  9. Prices had been high for awhile. Just yesterday I was ready to bid the same amount, but PL came back with "You have very little chance of your bid being accepted. Better chance: 34.95 a day." I didn't go through with the bid, especially since Hotwire had come down to 26.95 a day for a total of $300. This morning I noticed I had more bonus cash offers, so I decided to take another try. When I didn't get the warning message, I thought about lowering my bid, but $20 a day was what I planned to spend anyway. It was accepted. Offer Price Summary Bonus Cash Per Day: $2.63 (per day) Your Offer Price Per Day: $20.00 (per day) Total Offer Price with Bonus: $22.63 (per day) Total Charges to Your Credit Card Your Offer Price: $20.00 (per day) Total Rental Days: 8 days(7 days and 15 hours) Subtotal: $160.00 Taxes and Fees: $79.65 Total Charges: $239.65 Lowest Published Price: $873.97 Total Savings:* $634.32 (You saved 73%)
  10. This is awesome. Thank you. Just booked Hyatt Regency Embarcadero in SF for $95 on Dec. 10, which seems to be the price others are getting for SF hotels bidding on Priceline. I specifically wanted the Hyatt for the location. By the way, the Hyatt site itself and Expedia show no vacancies at the Hyatt for that night. Odd.
  11. I stayed there last year at the same time. They have free WIFI in the lobby/cafe/bar area. I just went down there when I needed to use my computer. It's a nice enough hotel. And $70 is a great price.
  12. Started bidding at $50. Added Marina and bid $55. Added SFO-North and bid $58. Added SSF and bid $60. Success. With tax, it comes to $76.63. Used the BB link. I'm meeting friends Saturday a.m. in Fisherman's Wharf so I decided to stay here rather than my usual Embarcadero location for a solo trip. Not as convenient BART-wise, but it'll be nice to check it out and see if it's a place I'd want to stay with the family next summer.
  13. I used your link to win the Sheraton Fisherman's Wharf for $60 on PRICELINE. I'll post the win over in that section. Thanks.
  14. This one is stumping me. I can't figure out which 3-star in the Embarcadero offers complimentary breakfast. Here's the info: Dates: Dec. 11-12. Price: $79. Amenities: Smoke free; complimentary breakfast; restaurant; business; internet. Trip Advisor rating: 4 out of 5. Any ideas? I'm probably going to try Priceline, but I am so curious as to what hotel this could be.
  15. I just called HOTWIRE and asked about the missing number of TripAdvisor reviews. They said their system was updated and they were unable to show the number of reviews. Ugh. This will make ID-ing hotels more difficult (which maybe was their point?)
  16. Wow. That's a shocker. I don't think there's anything left on Van Ness from when I lived there. Guess a hospital there makes sense though. (Sorry to be OT.)
  17. I mentioned this in my winning bid post a few days ago, but forgot to note it here. New hotel for TX-Dallas area: 3.5* Sheraton Stonebriar (Frisco-Plano West) Zone change for TX-Dallas: Richardson and Plano have been split. The new Plano zone is pretty much East Plano and has up to 2.5* while Richardson goes up to 4*.
  18. New hotel for the hotel list! I was kinda hoping for the 3.5* Marriott Legacy Town Center or 4* Westin Stonebriar Resort, but this'll do for a close-to-home anniversary getaway sans kids. The reviews are good, and it's right next door to the Westin w/ privileges there. For some reason I assumed the Sheraton was rated 3 stars, so I didn't expect this to pop up. In any case, my bidding history: 3.5* Frisco-Plano West - 1st bid: $40 Free rebid #1-Added Plano: $45 Free rebid #2-Added Allen/McKinney: $50 Free rebid #3-Added Lewisville: $55 Cheapest rate on website is $89, so not a HUGE win, but still better than I could find on Hotwire or at other hotels in the area. NOTE: Plano and Richardson are now two different zones. Plano's top star level is 2.5*, while Richardson goes up to 4.* Oh yeah, used your PRICELINE link.
  19. Valet parking at Westin Market street is $47 per night plus tax and tip (I'm pretty sure the bill for the one night we did valet was $56). Around the corner is the Jessie Square garage (on Stevenson st.) which is $25 flat for more than 12 hours, but no in-out privileges. We parked there 3 nights. Last day I was there I noticed the garage across the street from the Westin had a sign out for $20 a night. So...there are other options.
  20. Not sure if hotel reviews go here, but thought I'd comment on my stay. Overall, very nice. Friendly, accommodating staff. One word of warning. When you book for 2 adults and 2 kids, you're not necessarily guaranteed a room with two beds. We got there late Friday night and were told all the 2 queen rooms were "committed" so they offered us an upgrade to a 26th floor "premier" room with a king and a rollaway. If my kids were any bigger (they're 9 and 6), that would've been a problem, but it worked for us. We asked if we could switch the next day if a 2 bed room became available and they said yes. However, after the first night we just decided to stay put. Great view, big room, nice bath products, nice water pressure, big flat-screen TV. Heavenly bed was lovely, but the pillows were waaaay too soft for our tastes (and necks). They even emptied the minibar out when we asked for a mini-refrigerator and were told they were out. Not sure what "non-premier" rooms are like, but I wonder how noisy it would be further down. We could hear street noise on the 26th floor (which didn't bother me because I like city sounds, but may bother those who don't.) Valet Parking comes to about $55 a night with tax and tip, so we only parked there the first night to drop all our stuff off after an exhausting day at Santa Cruz. The next three nights we parked at the Jessie Square Garage next door for $25 a night. There's also a garage across the street for $20 for 24 hours. If you like public transportation (I do, my husband does not), two bus lines across the street will take you to Fisherman's Wharf via North Beach-- the 9x is more direct. The 30 Stockton will take you through Chinatown. We didn't go to the Museum of Modern Art, but it's one block away. Anyway, good location and nice hotel, but I think next time we may try to get a hotel with a pool that's closer to Fisherman's Wharf as it seems more kid-friendly. (Free wi-fi would be nice too.)
  21. Correct. I reserved it through the hotel website. I thought of posting this on the Hotwire section, but thought this would be a better place for it. I just thought it was interesting that the Hotwire price was so close to the hotel's actual sale price.
  22. This hotel had come up on Hotwire for $69 (or at least I ID'd it as the Domain from this board and Trip Advisor). I checked the actual hotel website and it showed a rate of $69.30. Since I wasn't 100% sure of my travel plans, I reserved it through the hotel. (Then joined the Joy of Life club associated with the hotel chain. I think I get wine when I check in!) Hotwire now lists it as $64, although with Hotwire's taxes it only comes out to $4 total less than my reservation. It looks like a nice place and got great Trip Advisor reviews. Also, it looks like Hotwire is listing its sister property the 3* Wild Palm for $66. Also good reviews. FYI-the Hotwire zone is Sunnyvale-Cupertino.
  23. I believe Embassy Suites does charge for parking, but it's nothing compared to downtown. Maybe $10 to $15. And there may be other street parking options, but I'm not sure. I'll be in SF those same dates and had been eyeing the Embassy Suites a few weeks back, but decided to stay downtown. (And still wondering where I'm going to ditch the car.) Hope you have a great time.
  24. I've been trying for a minivan for about a month, bidding up to $37. Several times Priceline counteroffered with $47, but it was just too much for our budget. So I finally "settled" for a full-size, and used my $15 Priceline bonus cash. So I'm basically paying $18 a day. $264.28 total, which is $300-400 cheaper than any minivan prices I saw. Just hope the car's big enough for my 6'8" husband and that our kids don't drive us too crazy in such tight quarters. :) I got it on the first bid, so now I wish I had tried to go lower. Oh well. Still a great deal.
