  1. Hi again! It's been a while! I'm looking at a 4-star ESB zone hotel on Hotwire for 7/24-7/27 for $157. The amenities listed are... Boutique Restaurant Business center Self-service Laundry Internet I can't seem to match it to any on the list. Any idea? Maybe 70 Park Avenue? Thanks! April
  2. Piretta, just to clarify, there are not 19 "rebid" zones. I think dahammer was pointing out that there are 19 zones total. Your only rebid zones are those that only have 3.5 star and below. Feel free to confirm which zones are actually rebid zones here on the board. That's a very important concept, and one that you should be sure of before bidding!
  3. Actually, and please correct me if I'm wrong, thereuare, this has been reported in this thread as the Intercontinental Buckhead. It's not listed as a customer favorite, but don't those change quite frequently?
  4. First bid of $70 hooked the Intercontinental. We stayed here this time last year and loved it. This has to be one of the best values in Atlanta. Price on the hotel's website was $179. Taxes and fees brought my total to about $87.
  5. There is truly no way to target a specific hotel in any bidding zone, but especially one like Downtown where several hotels are reported regularly.
  6. There is no way to absolutely avoid the Sheraton, as it has been reportedly won in at least one 4* Downtown bid. If you could not be satisfied with ALL the hotels on the hotel list, you should reconsider using Priceline's Name Your Own Price product.
  7. Priceline wins are non-refundable. Very few, if any, have had luck otherwise. This reiterates the need to check and double check info before clicking "Buy My Hotel Room." Also, please post your win in the appropriate forum.
  8. You'll love this hotel. My husband and I spent one night there January 2005, and they were very good to us, despite our cheap Priceline reservation. The hallways and common areas show a little wear, but our room was comfortable and attractive. Enjoy your stay!
  9. My husband and I are going to NYC in June for a three-day getaway. This will be our second time in the city. I'm looking for suggestions for a good steakhouse to have dinner at before we see Beauty and the Beast! We are staying at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square, so a restaurant in close proximity to our hotel would be nice. We are looking to spend no more than about $50pp. This trip is a little out of the ordinary for us, as we didn't bid on Priceline for our room. We won a sweepstakes drawing, so our airfare and accomodations are taken care of! Now I've just gotta find somewhere nice to eat! Thanks for all your suggestions! April
  10. It's unfortunate that you are so unhappy with your assigned hotel. However, this is the risk that one takes when using Priceline's opaque service. A standardized rating system doesn't exist, so the only standards Priceline must conform to are their own: 3 Star hotels will have the following amenities: Remote Control TV with Premium Channels Telephone with Voicemail Radio Alarm Clock Iron and Ironing Board Hairdryer Business Services 24 Hour Front Desk Restaurant Room Service We have heard of several folks who disputed charges UNSUCCESSFULLY. I'm not sure I've ever heard of some one doing that successfully, except perhaps if they were walked to another hotel upon arrival. Priceline is certainly not for everyone. Good luck with your trip.
  11. Congrats on winning your hotel room! Hopefully you've already reported it to the board here! Yes, just call the hotel and make your requests. I've found, of course, that the nicer you are to the reservations agent, the better your chance of avoiding the "Sorry, you have a Priceline reservation and I can't take your request" line. Be sure to restate your requests again when you check-in. I've always been given the room that I've requested, but I'm sure not everyone has had the same luck. Good luck.
  12. Sorry! I forgot to add the amenities. They are the same as is listed on the hotel list.... Restaurant Pool Fitness Internet Business center
  13. My husband and I desperately wanted to stay at this hotel on 4/29/06 to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The price on Hotwire was $390. The hotel's own website priced the rooms at $209. The difference was $181. My Double the Difference claim was accepted in three business days, and I've been refunded $362. The total comes to: $390 + 57.38 tax = $447.38 - ($362) = $85.38 I might have been able to beat tis on Priceline, but I didn't want to risk getting another hotel. I've driven past this hotel many times, but have never stayed there. I emailed reservations to request a king non-smoking room. They immediately emailed me back and confirmed my requests. We are looking foward to a beautiful stay. This was somewhat risky, but paid off.
  14. Actually, it's not illegal. It is a binding contract into which you entered voluntarily. I understand your situation. Unfortunately, Hotwire's business model is built on the idea of NO CANCELLATIONS. This is preceisely the reason they are able to offer such low rates. I wish you luck, but unless you just happen to get a one-in-a-million Customer Service agent, I have a feeling that you won't win this one. It's a surprise to me that they even considered allowing you to reschedule the airfare.
  15. I saw a post on FlyerTalk.com about this mistake fare. ATL-HNL, $79.90. It was only available for a couple different seven day periods, and I jumped on it. They have honored it, assigned seats, sent confirmations, etc. For $250 all in for both, they are pleased to say the least. By the way, it was not a Priceline bid. I bought the tickets throug AA.com.
  16. The Omni is my favorite hotel in Downtown Atlanta. I always hope to get the Omni when bidding. It's a beautiful hotel, and well worth what it usually goes for on Priceline. Would I pay full price to stay there? No, but I won't pay full price to stay anywhere anymore. Don't be afraid of winning the Omni. It's beautiful. Read my review: REVIEW Good luck.
  17. Thank you all for your expertise. They've decided to stay on Oahu for their entire trip. Like charlie suggests, we think that for their first visit, remaining in Oahu may be best for time and money reasons. We've bid once for Waikiki North and South Resort, but have been rejected up to $150. I'll keep trying. Thanks again.
  18. I'm bidding for my parents. Dates are 5/10-5/17. They prefer a Resort in Waikiki North or South. We are avoiding 4* for the moment. Resort Honolulu (Waikiki North, South) Rejected up to $150 Started at www.savingsbarn.com as always.
  19. Yes, they are going to honor the rate...I booked them several weeks ago, and UA has confirmed in writing that they will honor the fare. They've actually already been ticketed and have seat assignments. Thanks for the book recommendation. Believe it or not, I've actually already bought that book as a Christmas gift to them! Thereuare, thanks for your advice. It sounds as though you had a good time on your vacation. To answer your questions... They are very active, late forties and in great shape. They might even enjoy a nice romantic hike to a lookout spot. Any suggestions? Do they like to drive? Well, enough to get where their going. Although I'm sure there is better scenery to observe in Hawaii than here in Metro Atlanta! :) They love to shop, hang out on the beach a bit, sight see, all the typical touristy stuff. In my mom's words "We want to see as much as we can in a week, without feeling rushed." I was also thinking that two islands would be max for seven days. They've basically handed all of the reservations and planning responsibilties to me. I'm appreciative for any help you all can give. Thanks!
  20. Soon, I will begin to bid on Priceline for a combination of stays for my parents. Dates are May 10-17. This vacation could never occur without th UNBELIEVABLE airfare mistake I caught: from Atlanta to Honolulu for $79 round trip! :) Yes, I said $79 from ATL to HNL and back. Anyhow, they would like to split their stay between Oahu and another island, perhaps Maui. Neither I nor them has ever been to Hawaii, so I'm looking for suggestions. How would you split a seven night stay, considering the 4*/Resort options on Priceline? As usual, I'll begin my bidding at the ever popular www.savingsbarn.com, and I'm very appreciative for any advice. April
  21. Just send Thereuare a email with the links included, and he can work on them for you. I've emailed him before with two links, and he added them almost immediately.
  22. My husband and I stayed at the Sheraton for only one night, but we really enjoyed the hotel. I was nervous after reading the reviews on TripAdvisor.com, but I took into account that most of those reviewers paid rack rate for their room. I paid less than half that, so I can look past a few flaws. LOCATION: The location of the Sheraton is very downtown. It is located literally steps from the interstate. Attached to the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Center, it is primarly a business hotel. The parking is a bit odd and a little difficult to figure out. You must park across the street in the Convention Center parking deck, and at $5 a pop, no in-and-out, it would seem to get pricey. After our second five dollars, I went to the desk to complain (read: vent) about the excessive charges, when they told me that I could have bought an unlimited parking card at Guest Services desk for $10/day. Thanks a lot! No one bothered to tell us this at check-in, nor did they tell the other two couples we were there with when they checked in. Anyhow, after parking in the deck, you must follow the maze to the hotel lobby. It's about a ten minute walk. ROOMS: We actually saw five different rooms. It took three tries to get the king room we requested. The first time we were sent to a double/double in the tower building. It was small, especially the bathroom. But it was nice, clean, and modern. The bathroom had a very small counter, barely big enough to hold a small make-up bag. I went back to the desk and requested a king room. We were then assigned another room on the seventh floor, again, tower building. Guess what?! Again, this was a double/double. Third time we were finally assigned a room on the sixteenth club floor in the atrium building. This room was twice the size of the first two. A huge desk with fax/printer/copier, bottled water, coffee maker, couch, chair with ottoman, and a great bed. Great bed linens, triple sheets with a down blanket and down duvet with cover. The bathroom was gigantic, compared to the other rooms. Nice bath amenities, Pantene Pro-V shampoo and conditioner, Vaseline lotion, and Jergens soaps. A lighted make-up mirror and hair dryer were also mounted. I took a peak at the other two rooms on our reservation. They were also in the atrium building, eighth floor. One double/double and one king, and upon their request, connected rooms. They were as big as our club level room, but without the fax and a smaller desk. SERVICE: The service was good to great. The first front desk clerk we met with was great. He checked us in without mention of Priceline. He only said that we had gotten "an internet rate." The lady that I dealt with while changing rooms was less than excited about helping me, though I wouldn't say she was rude. Just not friendly. However, I do appreciate that they honored our room requests without reminding me of my Priceline rate. Each and every bellman we passed throughout the hotel spoke to us, and asked us if we needed anything. Though we didn't require the help of a bellman, one family with us did, and they reported that he was extremely kind and helpful. FOOD: We did not partake in any food from the restaurants, but I did see a little cafe in the atrium, as well as some sort of Grill that served burgers and such. There is not much choice outside near the hotel when it comes to food, but we were into town for a wedding, so we ate with family. If you choose not to eat at the expensive hotel restaurants, go down the interstate a couple of exits where there are lots of restaurants, fast food, etc. OVERALL: We enjoyed our stay at the Sheraton. I bid for a three star when I won the Sheraton, and I would say that that rating is accurate, perhaps even low. The beds are the Westin Heavenly beds, which I always love, anyway. And for $51, who can complain?!?!
  23. If you had to choose, where would you go and why? New York City, San Francisco, or Washington DC? I won a trip for two to one of those three cities for three days/two nights, airfare, hotel, and spending money included. Here's my problem, I can't decide where to visit!! I visited NYC last Christmas, and except for the sub-zero wind chill, LOVED it! My husband and I decided that we would love to visit again in warmer weather. We have never been to the other two cities. But New York is beautiful, and I know there are things to keep me busy for a few days there. We didn't get to see everything we wanted to see. We stayed in at the Jersey City Hyatt, and although it was a wonderful hotel, we would love to stay in the middle of the Times Square, which we would be able to do on this trip. I live in Atlanta, and have never been west of the Mississippi. San Francisco is enticing, since it's so far away, and we probably couldn't afford to fly there in the near future. DC would also be interesting, but so far, it's last on the short list. I know two nights really doesn't leave much time to sightsee, so the flight length also makes me lean toward NYC. It's a few hours shorter than to SF. What would you do, and why?? Thanks!
  24. I was bidding for three rooms in Birmingham for an overnight stay. Two acceptable zones were Central as well as Inverness. I started with Central, and hit on $51. Strategy went as follows... Bidding through www.Savingsbarn.com........ Began at $35.......rejected. Up to $41 with free rebid..........rejected. Up to $46 with freerebid...........rejected. Last bid at $51........accepted by Sheraton. Lowest prepay rate on Sheraton's website is $119. I'll take a 58% discount any day! Hope this place isn't a dump!!!
