  1. Amenities Airport Shuttle Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center Self service laundry Internet access Accessibility Accessible for the blind Accessible for the deaf Accessible path of travel I am slightly annoyed with HOTWIRE because the pre-purchase details said it was 55% of normal rate of $186 and had 4.0/5 on TripAdvisor. But in reality, rooms are running $140 and it has only 3.0/5 on TA.
  2. Yes, I just purchased what appears to be the same hotel, and it was in fact Holiday Inn San Francisco International Airport, 275 S. Airport Blvd.. I am slightly annoyed with Hotwire because the pre-purchase details said it was 55% of normal rate of $186 and had 4.0/5 on TripAdvisor. But in reality, rooms are running $140 and it has only 3.0/5 on TA. Oh well, just need a place to sleep really, so I guess it's fine. Just be aware. I'll post this Hotwire win separately, also.
  3. Started from the BiddingHelper.com box on this site. Decided on a last minute Tahoe trip. I noticed Hyatt was showing on Hotwire for around $184. Looking at last August's winning bids, I started low, at only $115/night. Rebids, adding zones around, none of which have Resorts: $125, $130, $135, $145. I was afraid I'd run out of rebids, though after my first decline they offered me a rebid of $164, so I figured I was getting close. This is a great rate for Tahoe in August and we always enjoy staying here. :)
  4. As a further example, you can see my post to see how I successfully used the re-bid strategy to get a 4* in the SOMA area of San Francisco. That is definitely a reasonable price for this area, from what I've seen. Hope that helps!
  5. I started from the link on this site and began bidding: 4* in SOMA @ $80 Added rebids in $5 increments: $85 Civic Center; $90 Fisherman's Wharf; $95 Japan Center; $100 Marina; $105 Richmond... and jackpot! Room Subtotal: $105.00 Taxes & Fees: $24.31 Total Charged to Card: $129.31 We live close to the bay, so we don't usually spend the night. I'm looking forward to checking out this ideally located hotel and its top-floor lounge.
  6. Well, I made the blunder of forgetting that PL might give me a Resort when I was bidding for a 4*. I was hoping to get a room at the Resort at Squaw Creek since we'll be skiing there. I checked the map in advance to figure out which areas were good for rebids, but with Resort being at the bottom of the list now, I neglected to notice and think about the Hyatt in the Incline Village area. So I started (using the link here)at $150/night, knowing it was a long shot because Squaw is really booked up and rates are around $350/night online. Rebids, adding areas: $155, $160, $165, then $170 with the Incline Village area added. Was bummed to find that I had won the Hyatt at $170/night because it's a heck of a drive from there to Squaw and the rooms aren't equipped with microwaves and fridges like Squaw Creek. Oh well, I guess I got a good deal since on hotwire Hyatt is going for $357/night, and it is a beautiful resort. Note to self to watch for the Resort option in rebid zones...
  7. Started from the PRICELINE search box on this site. I noticed the Hyatt was available on Hotwire at $130, after seeing it on their site for $330! So I decided to try Priceline starting at $105. Got it on first bid - so maybe could've gotten it for less :/ Anyway, it's a great price for the area and that hotel for a Saturday night in August - so I can't complain! Note that taxes and fees are $23.17 and they charge a resort fee - $25 I believe.
  8. Note that the hotel name in the title and on the list page doesn't match what's in the body and is the actual name of it. (Forest Suites Resort not Forest Lakes Resort). This confused me a bit when I tried to Google Forest Lakes Resort and got no results. Thanks for posting this one - looks promising!
  9. Amenities: Resort, Slopeside, Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-speed Internet Access, Golf Nearby, Tennis Nearby, Spa Services $152.00 Subtotal: $21.46 Tax recovery charges and fees ===== $173.46 Total price Used the BetterBidding HOTWIRE link. Thanks!
  10. Started from betterbidding's HOTWIRE link. 3-star hotel in East Los Angeles County This hotel features the following amenities: Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-speed Internet Access (note that it did not list "Suite" as an amenity, though all rooms are suites) August 11-13, 2010 $59.00 Per night x 2 nights $118.00 SubTotal $18.69 Tax recovery charges and fees $136.69 Total Charge
  11. In comparing this same property listing to what came up on package search for the same weekend, Apple Farm Inn was the only match. Seems likely. Won't find out because I don't really want to stay there...
  12. Another unconfirmed, but looks likely based on availability and options via the packages listing: San Luis Obispo 3.5 stars Boutique, Airport Shuttle, Swimming pool, Restaurant, Internet, Golf nearby, Spa Apple Farm Inn
  13. Used PRICELINE link here and submitted $45 on first bid. Was happy it was accepted AND I got the hotel I was hoping for :) It's great to get 2 rooms for less than the cost of one at most places this holiday week. Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $45.00 Subtotal: $90.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $18.90 Total Charges*: $108.90 Thanks for all the posts of recent wins, which led me try for a little lower bid than I would've guessed.
  14. Amenities: Airport Shuttle, Breakfast, Fitness Center, Pool(s), Business Center, Laundry Facilities, High-speed Internet Access, Golf Nearby $79.00 + 15.52 $94.52 Total Only saved $10 off direct rates :) Was hoping for one a little better. My priceline bids were rejected so I went to Hotwire...
  15. 04/03/07 - 04/04/07, 1 room, 1 night, 2 adults Neither of these are on the pinned list? 2.5* Disneyland South $58 Restaurant(s), Pool(s), Business Center, Laundry Facilities (self-service). 2* $44 Fullerton - Brea Area Suite, Laudry Facilities, Kitchenette Thanks! Lisa
  16. We ended up having a great time in Whistler - see my hotel review for more info!
  17. We stayed here 3 nights for a romantic getaway. Without knowing, I booked during the last 3 nights of the Telus Festival, which I assume is intended to draw people for spring skiing. I was a little worried that it'd be overcrowded, but aside from 1 evening right in the middle of the village, we didn't feel it was crowded at all. In fact, on the slopes, there weren't many people, even though the weather turned out perfect for us! The hotel itself is in a terrific spot in the village. It's literally steps away from the Blackcomb Gondola and still a stone's throw from the Whistler Gondola. There's a ski rental shop right in the bottom floor of the hotel that stays open until 9 pm so you can rent the night before and then stow your gear in the complimentary ski locker room next to it. We got a 10% coupon for rentals as guests of the hotel. At check-in, we inquired about upgrades, the desk staff was very helpful, and tried to find us something, but said that they were booked up the next 2 nights, so there wasn't anything available. When I told her I was worried about the comfort of the murphy bed, she said she'd slept on it and it was just as comfortable as their normal beds. She also said it had village view instead of mountain, but when we got there, we could see the village AND the mountain up behind it, so I'm not sure how much better view one could ask for?? Our room was quite small, as I expected from viewing their pictures. The murphy bed is up so you can walk around. There is a decent couch and chair, as well as a kitchenette and dinette set. We didn't cook anything, but for longer stays, and less $, it'd be very handy. The gas fireplace is nice, and somehow is also the heat source for the room. I never did exactly figure out the thermostat control, and woke up each night way too hot :) I didn't bother to ask the staff about it, though, so I can't blame them. The bed ended up being very comfortable, to my relief. There are only queens in the studios, though. The down duvet was triple sheeted, and quite cozy. A nice selection of different pillows, so I didn't have a rock hard one like most hotels. Nice touch. The room also had a tiny balcony with a chair, but since we were in the inside corner of the hotel's "L" shape, it was pretty much only big enough for 1 person at a time. Still was nice to be able to open it up and enjoy the warm afternoon sun. We didn't use the pool or spa, which have great views of the village and mountain, but aren't very private. We did eat in the hotel's pub for dinner one night. Apparently they were near the end of food service time, because we had to wait - a lot! Waited to get menus, waited to place orders, waited for food... Was pretty good, but better when we ordered their desserts for room service :) Only had 2 issues during stay, and both were due to the festival. There was a stage set up just outside of our hotel for bands and such, and one of them played pretty late one night. Exhausted from skiing, that was fairly annoying since it was really loud inside our room. Still, we were tired enough to fall asleep anyway after a bit. The other issue, I think on the same night, was that our partying neighbors kept their balcony door open and would holler at random intervals until about 3 am, when my husband had to finally get up and tell them... well, you can guess what he said... I felt the hotel staff should've kept that sort of behavior in check better. Otherwise, our stay was without incident. Parking, in their basement, is of course expensive, but at least your car is secure and the elevator goes directly from your room level to car for easy loading. All in all, the hotel's location was great, the room was okay, and the price was good. However, I think the Westin's location is nearly as good and their rooms look much nicer online. If prices are close, I'd choose the Westin first. Didn't take any photos of the room, but you can see some of the fantastic view of the gondolas, village, stage, competition jump, and mountain from our "balcony:" http://static.flickr.com/49/133712867_26d330cac8_b.jpg http://static.flickr.com/44/133712950_de7923b460_b.jpg http://static.flickr.com/45/133712997_4519d2ef44_b.jpg In the ski rental shop: http://static.flickr.com/49/133163296_c43ef0db8d_b.jpg
  18. I kept hoping the Westin would show up, but after seeing its normal rates go up to $269, I gave up and went with the Pan Pacific. Note that this site's list only says "Pan Pacific" but there are now 2 of them. Looking at the vacation packages, I was able to determine that this one was the Mountainside resort because of the amenities. Thanks! Amenities: Restaurant, Pool, Fitness Center, Spa, Kitchenette, High speed Internet, Golf Nearby, Tennis Nearby, (Laundry Facilities - not on the main listing) 1 room(s) @$136.00 per night x 3 night(s) SubTotal:$408.00 Taxes and fees: TaxesAndFees:$70.62 Total Price TotalPriceWithAddOnsAndSavings:$478.62
  19. San Luis Creek Lodge, San Luis Obispo Unconfirmed but probably correct based on the exact amenities in the package listing for San Luis Obispo. 3* Boutique, Free breakfast, business center, laundry I sure wish someone else would book some stays in SLO so I could know for sure what to expect the 2.5* to be. I thought it'd be the Holiday Inn Express, but it doesn't list an on-site restaurant, which this one has...
  20. Accepted on first bid of $65. Your Offer Price: $65.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $65.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $15.68 Total Charges: $80.68 On a side point, interestingly, the first 2 rooms I booked at the airport, the rental car offers were pretty cheap, starting at $11. I tried to book my car separate, since I don't need it the day I arrive or leave, but couldn't get prices as low as I wanted. The car offers that came back with the WDW acceptance started at $29 for an economy car!!! Very weird... At these rates, I'll be better off renting directly from the companies.
  21. I arrive late and leave early, so I was hoping to get this in-airport hotel! (With a night at a resort near Disney in between :-) ) Bidding: $37 MCO $39 + Florida Mall $45 + Winter Park - accepted next night I tried: $39 MCO $42 + Florida Mall $45 + Winter Park - accepted Details: Your Offer Price: $45.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $45.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $12.91 Total Charges: $57.91
  22. I was hoping to get the Hotel Los Gatos On their site, the best rate was $209. Began bidding on 4* at $85 - rejected added Ben Lomand $96 added Morgan Hill $111 New browser session, began with Los Gatos and Ben Lomand for $116 (I'm not sure why/how, but I was able to rebid in less than 72 hours) - was rejected again added Morgan Hill $121 - still rejected and it popped me out to the "other travel deals" page. Decided to go for something further north, leading me to the Cypress in Cupertino. Maybe I'll try this one again sometime since the hotel looks beautiful!
  23. On Kimpton's site, lowest rate was $99 Pretty sure it came up on Hotwire at $89 (4.5*) Needed 2 rooms. Began bidding at $55 - rejected Added Milipitas $61 - rejected Added Redwood City $70 - accepted I know I may have left a few bucks on the table, but only saw one more rebid coming. Although I was a tad disappointed at how their website sort of misrepresents the public areas (the "colonade" faces the parking area where you drive in and the lobby picture makes it seem much bigger), the rooms were beautiful and VERY comfortable! If I get more time, I'll write a full review to post. Overall, I think we got a great deal and highly recommend Cypress - especially to business travellers.
  24. Since the only hotel reported here was the Hyatt, a 3* hotel, I went for that. But now I wonder if I'd chosen 2.5* if I might have gotten the hotel I really wanted - the Holiday Inn & Suites. How does the * rating work again? Thanks
  25. I put the details of our specific stay with my bid report, but a little more about the hotel: I thought it was nicely designed - felt very upscale in lobby. The grounds are attractive and it backs up to the Valencia Country Club Golf Course. The whole area looks like it is new construction. There is a nice garden area outside the conference rooms and it looks perfect for a wedding and/or reception. The pool area was also small but lovely with an outdoor fireplace and tables. I'm not sure what was strange about the facade and colors, I thought it looked like the place was all part of a master plan. The shops, restaurants, and movie theater across the street were convenient and attractive. It is also a very short drive to Magic Mountain (5 minutes?). As for staying there instead of LA, I probably wouldn't since you can likely stay in town nearly as cheaply. However, if you prefer to stay where it feels like an upscale suburb, this is great for that. For families going to Magic Mountain, be warned that they will not put a rollaway in a room with 2 double beds - due to "fire hazard." They will however put 2 rollaways (which are as comfortable as their regular beds) in a room with a king. No microwave or fridge, and breakfast is not included.
