  1. I entered 3 adults in hopes of getting a room with two beds as I was traveling with my daughter. Upon check in, I was told that Hotwire had specified a room with a king bed and a sofa bed, and because it was a third party reservation, there were no changes. I asked if the hotel was sold out for tonight, and was told no. I asked if there were any rooms with two beds and asked for an upgrade. I was told it would cost $10 and agreed.

I probably stayed here about 8 years ago, but it is really getting a bit worn. The sofa was sagging a bit and the mattresses were only doubles, not queens. Its a solid 2.5* and for the price paid a good deal, I'm pleased with the results. We were able to catch the Route 320 bus to NYC across the street, the trip into Manhattan was about 25 minutes and $7.90 roundtrip, a bargain. There are several restaurants in the area as well as some shopping. The rack rate was $165, so I was pleased with the results.

    Here are the amenities:

    Hotel Amenities

    Free Parking

    Free Breakfast

    Free Internet

    Pet friendly

    Indoor pool(s)

    Fitness Center

    Pool(s)

    Restaurant(s)

    Business Center

    Self service laundry

    Internet access

    Accessibility

    Accessible bathroom

    Hotwire Hot Rate $86.00

Tax recovery charges & fees: $25.05

    Trip Total: $111.05

As always, I used the WinAlerts app to book this and simultaneously check rates on PRICELINE and Hotels..com.

  2. Booked this as a pl Express deal. Rates were pretty high for the last few days so when I checked tonight, this deal looked almost too good to be true. This hotel is adjacent to a red line Marta station, so I getting here will be a breeze. The rack rate was $205, so I am absolutely stoked with this purchase. Plus the location is within walking distance of where I need to be.

    Guaranteed Amenities:

    Indoor Swimming Pool

    Outdoor Swimming Pool

    Pets Allowed

    Restaurant

    Business Center

    Fitness Center

  3. Note this hotel is located in the "Waltham" zone, it appears that this is no longer associated with Newton.

Made a same day bid using the BetterBidding WinAlert app on my ipad. For anyone that wants to save time with the bidding process, this is a MUST HAVE app. This allows me to easily check pricing for Hot.wire, Price.line and Hotels.com without the need to open and close screens, just enter your destination and dates.

I was able to see Hot.wire had a 3* hotel for $68 and PRICELINE EXPRESS had one for $72, I am not sure if either of these was the Embassy Suites Hotel. I made bids at 4* and 3.5* and was rejected. Bid $57 for a 3* and was very pleased with the results as the rack rate was $219.

    Offer Price: $57.00

    Taxes and Fees: $15.57

    Total: $72.57

This hotel offers free parking, not sure about wifi, but a free cooked to order breakfast in the morning.

Edit: wifi is $12.50 per day, but if you are gold or diamond with Hilton Honors, its free.

  4. I was expecting the Courtyard by Marriott but ended up with Springhill Suites By Marriott Scranton Wilkes-Barre which is not on the hotel list. It looks just as nice if not nicer so I am happy with the win. Prices are showing $119 on their website so I saved 56%. I was rejected at $50.

As always, I used the PRICELINE link before bidding.

This is a better deal than the Courtyard, IMO, free breakfast and the rooms are like mini suites, one of my faves.

  5. I think this may be a new reported win for the board, the only amenity shown was HS Internet. I was hoping to get the Best Western Back Mountain, and was kind of surprised to have received this hotel. Although this is an older property in the downtown area, the room was up to date and included a flat screen TV and a refrigerator. Parking, wifi, and breakfast is free. The room is on the small side, but otherwise I would stay here again.

    Rate per night: $69.00

    Tax & fees: $14.27

    total: $83.27

I used the WinAlerts app on my iPad to make this Hot.wire purchase as this lets me simultaneously check Price.line and Hotels.com prices.

  6. (i don't suppose this property or rate was available the previous weekend with the SuperBowl taking place at MetLife ;) )

Funny you should ask! When I stayed here last month, I was told the rate had not been established for the "Big Game", but it was rumored to be as much as $1000 a night. I was told it actually was around $160 and the hotel was not sold out. The stadium is probably less than a half mile away, but you couldn't walk up.

  7. This property is going through a renovation floor by floor and the new rooms look nice, great beds, free breakfast and wifi.

    Offer Price: $54.00

    Taxes & Fees: $15.99

    Total: $69.99

The NJ Transit bus to New York stops right in front of the hotel. Made my bids through Better Bidding's Win Alert app

This Fairfield Inn is one of my favorite properties in the Rutherford area and represents a great value if it can be had through PRICELINE.

  8. I received a counteroffer of $60 when bidding at the 2.5* level but I dropped down to 2* and kept the bid at $48, but was rejected. I increased the bid to $49 and it was accepted.

    Offer Price: $49.00

    Taxes & Fees: $15.09

    Total: $64.09

I also received an offer to extend my stay for the same rate. This property is across the highway from MetLife stadium and while there is no public transportation nearby, the clerk informed me that they offer a free weekday shuttle to the Secaucus Junction train station. Winning Priceline bids will get a standard room with a double bed, flat screen TV, and a small kitchen with refrigerator, two burner stove, microwave, coffee maker. You can even get extra coffee packets for free! Very spartan accommodations, zero frills, and slow wifi, but it fit my needs. Free coffee, Sara Lee packaged muffins, granola bars and bananas are offered for breakfast.

I used the BetterBidding Win Alert app on my iPad to make my bids. This is such a great app as I can simultaneously look at HOTWIRE and Hotels.com offerings to craft my bids. I think this was offered for $56 via PRICELINE's express deals.

  9. Made a same day bid and won the Extended Stay America, rack rate was $90, so I was pleased with the result.

    Room Cost $49.00

    Taxes and Fees $15.16

    Total Charges $64.16

Made my bids using BetterBidding's WinAlerts app which lets me check HOTWIRE, PRICELINE, and Hotels.com rates.

I was offered to stay another night at the same rate. This property is adjacent to the former Sheraton, now a Hilton hotel and across the highway from Met life stadium. The location and proximity to NYC is good, but there is no public transportation nearby, so having a car is a must. Extended Stay hotels cater to long term guests, so you don't get daily maid service and the room is rather spartan. But each room is outfitted with a two burner stove, refrigerator, microwave, so it's almost like a small apartment. The room has a queen sized bed and getting a two bed suite would be up to the discretion of the check in clerk. The hotel seemed empty and I believe that long term road warriors were not traveling due to the approaching Christmas Holiday. There is a grab and go breakfast offered which consists of coffee, tea, instant oatmeal, muffins, and granola bars. I really can't think of a better value for those seeking ultra low priced accommodations for a short trip to the NYC area.

Don't think of staying here during the Super Bowl, rates have not been set yet, but they will be sky high.

  10. Greetings, and sorry for the poor experience. If there are any amenities shown on your reservation but not available, you should call HOTWIRE immediately and dispute your stay. I have successfully done this in the past and have been awarded "hot dollars" good towards a future stay or the option to cancel the reservation.

However, I had a HOTWIRE stay that had a "business center" on the reservation and I argued that there was non such amenity. The next morning, the owner of the hotel produced a laptop computer and put it on one of the three tables in the breakfast room. This satisfied the "business center" designation for HOTWIRE and I was furious that this unscrupulous hotelier was gaming the system. The hotel did not meet its star rating and it was more of a motel. I even called the owner and he hung up on me, I got nowhere with HW customer service either.

At any rate, don't let this one bad experience keep you from using HOTWIRE, I have saved a ton of $$ over the years.

  11. Forgot to post this previous win, I prefer this property as it was recently refurbished, compared to the nearby Extended Stay in Woodbridge.

    Offer Price: $45.00

    Taxes & Fees: $14.25

    Total: $59.25

Extended Stay America now offers free wifi and also coffee in the lobby during breakfast hours as well as free muffins and granola bars. The rooms have only one Queen or double bed and a small kitchenette with refrigerator, stove, sink, and microwave.

  12. This is located at 1 Hoover Way in Woodbridge, it is an older Extended Stay property that has not been refurbished, but totally adequate. Not sure why Priceline would rate the recently refurbished Extended Stay in Rutherford at 1* and this one at 2*.

    Room Cost. $47.00

    Taxes and Fees $14.59

    Total Charges $61.59

Rack rates were around $109, so I was pleased with the winning bid.

  13. My last bid was $56, so I went up to $62 and was successful. I saw a 2.5* on PRICELINE express deals for $68 and thought it would be a Comfort Inn, so I was surprised to get the Townplace Suites. This is a nice property with newly refurbished rooms. It's my first stay in a Townplace Suites and the rooms are like a small one room apartment with a full refrigerator, small stove, microwave and sink. There was one queen bed, a pull out sofabed and a desk. Free wifi, parking, and breakfast make it a good deal. The rack rate was $119 so I was pleased with my bid. I would absolutely stay here again.

  14. I stayed at the Riviera a few weeks ago, I received an offer in the mail, my room was on the second floor overlooking a parking lot and the Peppermill. I forget which building, but there are 5 hotel "towers" and the best one is the Monte Carlo, so ask for this one. A colleague was staying in this tower and his room was nicer than mine. It was my second stay here, the property is older, but my room was fine, it didn't seem like a 3*. If you get a players card and run a few $$ through the slots, you will get offers for reduced rates in the future. The lobby bar has cheap drink prices 24/7 and the casino has $1 blackjack. There is a McDonalds across the street for an inexpensive breakfast, and Circus Circus is across the street as well. The CC steakhouse is actually very good and a great value. There is a $2 taco place called Tacos El Gordo a block away, the beef shoulder was very good, better than the pork, IMO. You can catch the Deuce bus in front to go north or south on the strip or the 108 bus to the airport near the rear entrance on Paradise.

Your stay is over a weekend and considering your rate, I think you got a pretty good deal.

  15. I recently received a $100 parking ticket while in DC. With the blocked off streets, one way streets, turn lanes that seem to appear from nowhere, the "grid and spoke" layout of the streets (many intersections have streets coming together at acute angles), the red light cameras, and soon to come, stop light cameras, driving the streets of DC is a white knuckle experience. I would much rather drive in any part of the Metro NYC area than in DC. Next time I'm taking the metro.

  16. I have been pleased with the new Biddinghelper/Win Alerts app, it lets me check both HOTWIRE and PRICELINE on my iPad and makes the bidding process faster. I saw a PRICELINE Express Deal for a 3* in Brooklyn at $100. I started bidding at $85 and received a counteroffer for $99. I upped my bid to $89 and it was accepted.

    Room Cost $89.00

    Taxes and Fees: $26.12

    Total: $115.12

This seems to be a new-ish hotel, the room was New York small and I think targeted towards a younger demographic. It was a king and the headboard of the bed acts as a room divider and separates the sleeping area from the sink, then a sliding door into the walk in shower area. The room had a small refrigerator.

Valet parking is available for $45 or park yourself for $35. There are several garages nearby which offer $20 parking. This is a very difficult area to drive, many one way streets and streets closed off for cars with the Fulton mall nearby, there is no such thing as driving around the block here. There is almost no street parking due to cleaning rules between midnight to 3:00 am on alternate days and then one hour parking at 8:00 am. Not wanting my car towed and spending all day attempting recovery, I just put it in a garage.

  17. I just did a search for 2 adults and 2 children for your dates and came up with a 3* for $126 with the same amenity set you reported. It also has a 90% approval rating. One of the reviews mentioned that the hotel is next to the Convention Center, next to Chinatown and had parking in a lot across the street Another mentioned the hotel was business-like. My best "guess" based on this information is the Four Points by Sheraton as it meets all of the criteria. But it's just a guess. Good luck.

  18. Used the Biddinghelper app to research rates for a same day bid in the Secaucus area. I failed at several bids at higher star levels, so I thought this hotel might come up when I reached for the bottom.

    Offer Price: $57.00

    Taxes & Fees: $16.14

    Total: $73.14

In the past, Extended Stay America was one of my least favorite brands, the rooms had white walls, hard beds, 19" TV's with few viewable channels, one bar of soap and a coffee maker without coffee packets. But, you could buy them for $1 at the vending machine. However, many properties have been renovated with new bedding, new paint scheme, flat panel TV's, new lighting fixtures, plus free coffee in the lobby, muffins and granola bars. And, the rooms are stocked with one coffee packet and shampoo. I would stay here again.
