As im familiar with the area, the hotel is very central located and easily to reach with a short walk when you take to train from the airport into the city. Lots of shopping/dining/sightseeing that someone can reach with just a couple of minutes walking.

Think I'll give the 4* HOTWIRE Cathedral City - Rancho Mirage West for $77.00 a shot. If this turns out as the Doubletree we might be able to get free breakfast as a Hilton Gold (would be pure luck but you never know).

Looks like price are high for your dates at the moment. But you have plenty of time, so I would try to make some lower bids from time to time.

First try was $110 and it was offered a room for $139, which I declined.

Started next day from scratch with $118 for the first bid. Got counter offer to raise $22 / which I declined

- added free rebid zone and raised to $122 -> rejected

- added another zone and raised to $126 -> rejected

- one more rebid zone and raised to $128 -> BINGO :)

Total comes to $305.40

Price on website: $517

Totally satisfied with the result.

There are no 5* in Bloomsbury - Marble Arch area.

As long as you dont post the rates from the hotels in your prefered zone it make no sense to give you an advice.

I would start with $70 and raise my bid by $5 if this is not successful.

understanding free re-bids is not that hard. Lets take your Rome trip as example. Once you have put in your travel dates and selected "Name my own price" you see

Step 1: Choose where you want to stay with the zones

1 Central

2 Vatican City

3 North

4 South

5 West

Lets assume you want to have a 5* and your prefered zone is 1 Central. When you klick the check box there you see 5* is available in that zone. Now you deselect it and and select one of the other zones at the time. You see, a 5* is only available in 1 Central. That means, you select for you first bid the Central zone only an place your bid. If it got rejected you add one of the zones and raise your bid and so on.

A free rebid zone is a zone that does not contains the star level you want to bid for. So you dont run the risk of getting a hotel there. Make sure that you have checked all zones before bidding!
