  1. Used Betterbidding PRICELINE link to start all searches and purchases. The zone did not matter except I did not want Downtown nor Lake Travis. I started low (gone are the days of $36 3* hotel rooms, sigh!) and hit at $61 plus $16.87 taxes and fees for a total of $77.87. Rack rate with taxes and fees is $119.99, which gives a savings of 35%. I did not see this listed in the South-Airport zone. It is at the Oltorf Street exit from I-35. Cheers!
  2. Used Better Bidding link to PRICELINE. This was very quick and easy. I first offered $15 for an economy but it was declined with a note that I could rebid if I raised the price to $18. I declined and bid $16 for a compact and Hertz took the bait. This was probably because of weekend rates. They indicated that I saved 55%. However it is a 40% savings from Advantage which was on Expedia, etc. 3 @ $16 $48.00 Taxes & fees 50.80 Total $98.80 Cheers!
  3. I used the PRICELINE link to start all searches and purchase. This was a tough nut to crack. I had been trying for a couple of months without success. I had limited my searches to near the airport. Yesterday I tried the Airport South zone at $52 without success. I switched Downtown zone and got the "If you will increase your offer by $13 we will try it again." I declined and added the free rebid Airport-North zone and kicked it up by $4. I thought it might be the Hyatt Place but the Riverside is okay. One night $56.00 Taxes & fees 14.07 Total 70.07 Cheers!
  4. When you select the star level, Priceline has the parking symbol in the level if free parking is available in that zone. I do not think there is a symbol if there is free internet. Cheers!
  5. I used the PRICELINE link to begin all searches and purchases. This is the first time I have been successful in using bonus money and the PRICELINE link. I had tried in vain for 3* hotels even going to about 80% of rack rate without success. I then dropped to the 2* range and hit on the first try. One night $40.00 Taxes and fees 12.18 Total 52.28 They have a free breakfast and parking. Last time I looked this is a first time posting of the Jameson in this city. Cheers!
  6. I used the PRICELINE link for searches and purchases. I had previously booked this hotel for a two night stay arriving 5/4/12. I posted it earlies. I had bid several times for a two night stay arriving on Sunday April 29. I had no success. I then decided to go to a single day and then use the add-on feature. I had no success bidding for the room on April 29. As you can see I was successful on Monday. I then tried the add-on feature for Sunday night and was told by Priceling that a room was not available at that price, but was offered a room for $117 plus taxes and fees. This does not upset an ole priceliner like me. I will still bid on Sunday night at %52 until it gets close, and then if I am unsuccessful will go full zone bidding until successful. So add-on is not always a good strategy especially in short bidding times. One night $52.00. Taxes & Fees 13.56 Total $65.56 Rack rate is $133.00 Cheers!
  7. Used PRICELINE link to start purchases. I started bidding in the Airport zone at $50 and was accepted in the Midtown after the second rebid. I originally bought just one night but after looking at things in the area decided to stay an additional night. First night $52.00 Taxes and fees 14.73 Add one night 66.73. Grand total $133.46 Rack rate including taxes for twop nights $223.74 or a dsvings of 40%. Cheers!
  8. Used the PRICELINE link for searches and purchases. I had long been trying for this particular hotel with a 4/29 arrival and a 5/1 departure. I then decided to toy around while using the post of sante kahn on January 14 as a guide. I started at $50 and added $1 for two rebids and hit at $52. Iam trying to pick the brains of Hyatt Yield Managers. I think it is down to two things. They may have decided that April is then end of their high season. Or Sunday and Monday arrivals are not accepted on long range bids. Two Nights $104.00 Termites & taxes 20.44 Total $124.44 Rack rate including taxes $357.42 a 65% savings. I will continue to bid for th 4/29 arrival every two or three weeks. Also they have a free continental breakfast which has been good at other Hyatt Places. Also they have free onsite parking. Cheers!
  9. Used the PRICELINE link to start all bids and searches. Started bidding @ $15/$16 for an economy/compact and was accepted at $22. 7days @ 22/day $154.00 Termites and taxes 81.19 Total 235.19 Lowest published price 504.03 Saving (53%) 268.84 Not too shabby. Now a word about the lowest published price. I looked it up on Travelocity. The lowest published priced had mileage and geographical restrictions. The lowest price for a compact with unlimited mile and no geographical restrictions in the 48 states was $666.90. The savings jumps to 65%. Cheers and thank you.
  10. Used the PRICELINE link to start all bids and searches. I started bidding $5/$6 for economy/compact. Continued until I was accepted at $17/day 3 days @ $17/day $51.00 Termites and taxes 44.63 Total 95.63 Lowest published price 137.62 Savings (30%) 41.59 Cheers and thank you.
  11. Used betterbidding to PRICELINE link. These small towns have very little competition so their prices tend to be a little higher than in larger urban areas. This is a new town and coresponding hotel for your Kansas Priceline Hotel List. Offer price $46.00 Taxes and fees 14.35 Total 60.35 BTW their web site says they have a free continental breakfast. Cheers!
  12. Used the betterbidding to PRICELINE link. Just booked this today. Had started in the $30's and going up by $2/day. Today I offered $48 for downtown Lincoln and it was declined with a message that if I wanted to rebid immediately I could do so by raising the first offer by $15 to $63. I declined, added $1 and got the Holiday Inn @ 2500 Tamarin Ridge Road. Priceline baited the mousetrap but came up empty. Offer price $ 49.00 Taxes and fees 15.39 Total 64.39 Cheers!
  13. Used the betterbidding to PRICELINE link. This was a tough one get at a reasonable price. Their website rack rate is $107 plus taxes. However they have a complimentary full breakfast which then makes it a pretty good deal. Offer price $ 50.00 Taxes and fees 13.72 Total 63.72 Cheers!
  14. Used betterbidding to PRICELINE link. I started at $35 and was declined. At $36, I was offered an immediate rebid if I would add $15 to the bid, i.e., $51. I declined as a few days later I was successful at $41. This is not too bad as Hyatt Place also provid a free continental breakfast, which I remember from Kentucky was very good. Normally continentals cost $9-$13 each. Offer priice $ 41.00 Taxes and fees 13.40 Total 54.40 Cheers!
  15. Used the betterbidding to PRICELINE link. This was an end of the trip stay and it does not matter where we sleep if it is within 30 minutes of the airport. The first day I started at the airport with an offer of $35 which was declined. I added three other zones that seemed close to the airport while keeping the offer at $35. The next day I started at the airport with an offer of $36 which was declined. Then I added Aurora and hit at $36. Love those 3* hotels. They are a rarity these days. Your offer $ 36.00 Taxes and fees 12.04 Total $ 38.04 Cheers and hooray for betterbidding!
  16. Used the betterbidding to PRICELINE link. I started in the $30's but could not get anything although did bid in Los Angeles Redondo Beach and Manhattan Beach zone. I avoided the Long Beach zone because there were hits for the Long Beach Hilton but they charge $15/day plus taxes so they are not more economical. Initially I was successful for 7/14 -7/16 but then added a day . 3 days @$55 $ 165.00 Taxes and Fees $ 39.37 Total $ 204.47 As I have read in some of your communications toi guests, rooms are not as cheap as they were a year of so ago, especially in vacation destinations such a California. Cheers!
  17. First I used Betterbidding to PRICELINE link. I started out bidding at $6/day for an economy car and declined I added $1 for a compact model. When it was declined I waited a day or so and started at $7/day for an economy and $8/day for a compact. Then yesterday my offer for a compact at $13/day was accepted. Offer Price $ 91.00 Termites and Taxes $ 64.35 Total $ 155.36 Lowest Hertz Price $337.17 a savings of 54%. Lowest on Travelocity $ 239.84 by Fox car rental. At least this time when I walk through the car rental area of the airport I will not feel lthe ghostly presence of Ali Baba and his forty thieves. Cheers!
  18. I used the PRICELINE link on all bids. I started at $25 and went up in $1 increments until winning at $41. I noted that there is also a Courtyard in the Huntsville zone but they passed it up. This makes the trip to Kentucky and Alabama an all PRICELINE hotel stays through Better Bidding. See recent posts in the Louisville area. Offer price $ 41.00 Subtotal $ 82.00 Taxes & fees $ 19.94 Total $101.94 Rack rate incl. taxes $268.80 Savings $166.86 or 62% which is not too bad. I ran across a link to a business magazinne on one post. It talked about 20% of hotels will be undergoing foreclosure proceedings in the very near future. I hope it does not adversely affect PRICELINE operations. Cheers!
  19. Used PRICELINE link. Bid $42 like previous post of same hotel for 11/3/10-11/7/10 Room price $42.00 Taxes and fees 13.60 Total $55.60 Savings over direct of about 60%. Cheers!
  20. In all cases I used the PRICELINE link. I had wanted the Airport zone but could not get any interest although I bid from $30 to $46. The reason I wanted it because I would have the option to rent a car off airport. I then decided to bid in the East zone and noted a recent acceptance at $39. I then started bidding in the East zone starting at $38. After four free rebids it hit at $42. I am amazed that this price was obtained as on November 5 and 7 the Breeder's Cup (Super Bowl of horseracing) at Churchill downs. Most of the hotels have jacked their prices up like they do for the Kentucky Derby. As an example, the Crowne Plaza in the Airport zone quote a price for the four days $1242 which includes tax. Rooom rate $ 42.00 $ Nights 168.00 Taxes & Fees 34.32 Total 202.32 Online price 607.25 Savings 404.93 or 67% which is not too shabby! Cheers! They have a free continental breakfast. I also have another hit for 11/9/2010 to 11/10/2010 which I will post separately.
  21. I used the PRICELINE link at all times. I started bidding for a 3.5* from $40 to $45 without success. I then started bidding for a 3* at $40 and hit at $42. Taxes and feed were $13.67 for a total of $55.67. Internet price including taxes was $160.40. This resulted in a savings of 65%. The date of purchase was 1/10/2010. Cheers!
  22. Used proper PRICELINE link on both dates. $42 - 4/22-23, 4/25-26 $42 I originally bid from $40 to $45 for a 3.5* in the South-Airport zone only. Did not have success. I then started bidding for 3* at $40 and got success at $42 for both nights at the Airport Courtyard. The taxes and fees were $13.67 for a total of $55.67. The online rack rate ($139.95) with taxes was $160.40 so I saved about 65%. I only bid this zone because of rental car prices. Both rooms were purchased on 1/10/1010. Lately I have not been successful in obtaining cars through Priceline. The rental car companies have reduced their car counts. They no longer, at Austin, have weekend specials. The weekend prices on Expedia, Orbitz and Travelocity are the same as week day. The four day weekend rental at the airport was $176. I made a reservation with Enterprise with a local site, 4210 South Congress which is within 5 miles of the Courtyard. The four day rental was a total of $67 and they will pick us up right near the Courtyard. Now this will not work for everyone because the local rental sites are usually not open on the weekend and are open only from 7:30 AM tp 6:00 PM. Since we are leisure travelers this works for us. I intend to do so when we go to Louisville, KY in November. There I will get a weeks rental off airport and hope tlo get the Crowne Plaza (using the PRICELINE Link, of course).
  23. Used PRICELINE link to hit this after many days of trying. The folks in San Antonio do not like to go below the $50. base. Three nights $147 + $33.54 fees = $180.54. Cost from website was $370.90 for a savings of $190.36 or %51%. This is final hit on a one week trip. Hit Austin North $45 and posted on Jabuary 9. Hit a $13/day rental from Hertz and posted on January 18. Previously got $89+ each way on Southwest OAK-AUS. Saved BIG TIME with Better Bidding. Thanks for your help. Off next week to Philippines with wife via EVA Airway in Elite Class where there is business class seating for about 40% more than cost of Economy (read sardine) seating. Will give update on Run of the House when I return. Cheers!
  24. Used proper PRICELINE link to get a decent price on a weekly rental. Had been lowballing and hit the first time I bid $13/day. The add ons in Austin, Texas are horrible. Your offer price $13.00 (per day) Total Rental Days 7 days Subtotal: $91.00 Taxes and Fees $67.78 Total Charges $158.78 Lowest Published Price $330.43 Total Savings $171.65 (You saved 52%) Lowest price seen in Austin on Expedia, Orbitz, or Travelocity was $222.52. Cheers!
