  1. I was pleasantly surprised at booking a round trip AUS - BOS flight 1 day in advance for $284 on PL;(on American Airlines) Hotwire was approx- $580- American $550 ish and all others $660- $770-- So there are indeed still advantages using PL for airfare-- in certain circumstances (read- flexibility required - in time and such- although mine were perfect- switching in DFW)- btw-- the flight to DFW was full; DFW to BOS had 2 unsold (or just empty) seats.....
  2. Omni Downtown-- always nice with rooftop pool (hope its warm!) Omni, Hilton or Hyatt are ones we've won on PL in the past- all nice- convenient etc! 7 bids-- starting at $48 with $3 increments (+ $1 more on the 7th bid to make it $70) accepted @ $70-- Offer Price: $70.00 Rooms: 1 Nights: 1 Room Subtotal: $70.00 Taxes & Fees: $18.35 Total Charged to Card: $88.35 Prices are in US dollars.
  3. started at $55 rebid $5 increments to $75- (for two nights, then again for one night) waited 24 hours repeating for the two nights- then bid for one night at $70-$75-$80- PL offered $100- I countered with $86 and they accepted- We went down and stayed the first night- then took the offer to extend a night on PL (actually the wording was something newer than last time I saw it- similar to-- PL reserves extra days with some hotels so you can extend...before 11 a.m. of your checkout day--- ) and it went through the same bid/accepted process for night 2. Note-- we actually were booked into the Bayfront- but we actually asked to be switched into the Marina (Bayfront is normally $10-$30 more than the marina!) because we like the pool better- and have stayed their with PL for about a dozen years now....
  4. Sorry- hectic week- family reunion and all... Worldspan charge dropped off- I believe Tuesday night or Wednesday-- (originally charged both Friday- with the Monday bank holiday- that's what i kinda expected...) I had no doubt that it would-- just pissin' me off that they tied up my money-- so I ended up not using them to change all the rooms- (I'm not going to be the goat at the reunion- and have to explain to dodgey in-laws {okay- so actually- I'm probably the only dodgey one in the crowd....} why they hit their credit limits with double charges over the weekend....) ... did I mention how occasionally PL and the hotel bill you- and then you get to argue with both until they do or don't refund you....-- maybe they've put a red asterik by my name-- 'cuz- the same trip- different hotel and PL reservation- but same account-- Holiday Inn Joplin MO billed me the $32.48- while PL billed my their $40.91 (already made the obligatory calls to each-- PL said 5 days and they would email me a resolution- Holiday Inn had me leave a voice message at "accounting"...) I'd write it all off to bad Karma-- but the family reunion actually went off without any disasters (!! :) )-- and I will get those two PL "wins" up-- I've been just a tad busy i'm afraid....
  5. no no no.... they charge FULLY double the original amount... or let me say -- the billed the identical amount again -- once under PL -- once under WORLSPAN TEST...
  6. PL put in the normal charge on my card from Priceline-- then a secondary charge from "WORLDSPAN TEST"-- Eventually (4 days) the one should drop off (which one i now know not...)- BUT, in the meantime- i've lost the use of funds----- shouldn't be a big deal usually-- but I've never, ever seen PRICELINE do this before-- As I was heading to a family reunion, I had approx 20 rooms to book over a 3 night period-- actually don't want to let them withhold over $1000 until they and the bank decide to release it..... (i only bought one room so far- was going to show the fam what you could get and have them switch to my PRICELINE methodology...) Just for fun, I called PL (like duh... now that they're indians answering, all i get is the boost to your ego you get with all their apologies...)-- but I spent an hour on the phone with them- then of course was given the ol' "hold for two minutes, if you would please, while I transfer you to ....." I was just waiting for the inevitable... but this one actually came back twice to ask me to wait for 2 more minutes- and then hung up on me.... I hate beauracracy.............. :) but really-- since when do you get a double hold from PRICELINE?-- The hotel sometimes will do it over a weekend (friday nights), and then the plan is to refund you when they receive the funds from PRICELINE-- (although I'm still owed $75 from an Oklahoma City hotel from .... I think 1999...)
  7. :D OH THE SHAME--- OHHHH THE SHAME OF IT ALL....... I stand before y'all an emaciated, barely functioning PL traveling veteran....... I fell for it--- A SCAM--- Bait and Switch Scam! MGM Vdara Hotel & Spa- ARIA, Travelocity, Expedia, Delta Vacations and Continental Vacations are all in on this one.... Probably just incompetence on Travelocity and Expedia, Delta and Continental-- outright FRAUD on Vdara, Aria and the rest of MGM... A 2 free tickets to Cirque du Soleil shows (LOVE, KA, ZUMANITY, ELVIS, BELIEVE-) or some other lesser shows if you prefer- B package pricing to obfsucate who's making the money (okay- so Travelocity and MGM in this case) C MUST ACT NOW! must be purchased and show tickets reserved by ... whenever (this past Monday in my case) D Big - trustworthy Names-- none of that fly-by-night vacation operator crap (MGM Vdara, ARIA, Travelocity, Expedia, Delta, Continental-- how more secure can you feel!>?) E Reservation # goes to phone pros--- "sorry there are no seats for ANY Cirque Show-- but I'd be more than happy to sell you tickets to those shows at FULL RETAIL".... F Shift blame from MGM to Travelocity to Vdara back to MGM-- wear out the consumer complainer (NOT-- picked the wrong pigeon on this one...) so that he eventually takes crap tickets or just gives up..... ALL the hallmarks of the typical vacation Bait and Switch SCAM! ... and i looked right at it.... and got sucked in by the perportedly stable names (and 5* service expected from Vdara to boot....) ohhhh... woe is me... woe is me..... :) :) :o :)
  8. I've never been a fan of packages... but... Vegas is a different can of worms.. Just booked 2 for $891 includes 3 nights Vdara/airfare plus 2 tickets to Elvis- from austin area- now- Southwest was $270 for similar timed flights Vdara is $129 + fees per day Elvis is $190 per ticket.... so more or less-- I figure it saves maybe a couple of hundred buckeroos up to $600 if you want to base it eggxactly on what i quoted above..... and this package allows 1 or 2 more family members to show up at the Vdara for the 270 airfare (no show tix though..) IMHO
  9. HOLY CHRISTMAS CAKES!! you mean to say that somebody out there actually does pay full price to stay at the Trump-- ON PURPOSE?!?? :)
  10. Probably too late to help you out.... Looks like the changed "Beach area" to "Downtown"-- and the SPID south area to "South"
  11. This scared me for a moment!! I thought maybe PL was rolling the Omni ('s) into the area they now call CC South-- It appears they did just rename the Beach area- now calling it Downtown... ... although I can't understand why-- unless PL customers were complaining that the term "Beach" was misleading, as the Omni's are not exactly on the beach (and the Corpus Christi beach ain't exactly the real beach you go to while in Corpus)!!
  12. Your Price Was Accepted Congratulations, your price of $75 was accepted by Hyatt Regency Austin. Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $75.00 Subtotal: $75.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $19.15 Total Charges*: $94.15 Hyatt Regency Austin Downtown Austin 208 Barton Springs Boulevard Austin, Texas 78704 512-477-1234 See Hotel Website View Map and Directions Check-In Date: Thu, Jul 24, 2008 / After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Fri, Jul 25, 2008 / 12:00 PM Dagnabbit!-- I am one who should know better-- but, I was trying to get the Hilton, which has been showing up @ $75- so I by-passed the $60 starting bid which would most likely have gotten me the same Hyatt I just won at $75!! Don't you hate it when you get too smart for yourself!?? Okay- so officially: 1rst Bid Downtown $75- I won( :) ) the Hyatt Regency !! (I might go back and add tonight 7/23- but by starting a new bid at $60 this time!) Thanks as always for your website- a great resource, and sometimes just a lot of fun n' games !
  13. $66 2 nites- started at 55 and went up... Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $66.00 Subtotal: $132.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $28.70 Total Charges*: $160.70 Omni Corpus Christi Hotels Bayfront & Marina Towers Corpus Christi Beach Area 900/707 North Shoreline Blvd. Corpus Christi, Texas 78401 361 887 1600 Fri, May 30, 2008 / After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Sun, Jun 1, 2008 / 12:00 PM Bid, rebid several times-- the week before going.... watch out for the 3* on North Padre Island - takes away a rebid for the Omni..... Been coming to the Omni on PL for 8 years now-- this is the first time I've gotten the Bayfront tower!! (Well, okay-- the Marina was closed- finishing remodeling the lobby apparently!!- but they said they'd be open Monday- jun 2nd!_) I'm not so sure I didn't prefer the Marina-- much bigger pool area- better view of the sea etc... but the staff at the Bayfront were obviously bending over backwards to help everyone this trip!! (graduations Friday nite and Saturday in Corpus this weekend- I think they were packed)-- and as mentioned- $5 per day parking now....
  14. semi-ditto that-- My (20 yr old at the time) son stayed there in July 2007 on a PL reservation, Palmer House didn't say a word...
  15. The Palmer House Hilton Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park Area 17 East Monroe Street Chicago, Illinois 60603 312-726-7500 Check-In Date: Fri, Jul 27, 2007 / After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Sat, Jul 28, 2007 / 11:00 AM Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $86.00 Subtotal: $86.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $20.54 Total Charges*: $106.54 Began with 4* in the Millenium Park Loop & Grant Park Area and bid $79 PL offered back to add $22 to get a room ($101 -- for those needing coffee....) I countered by adding Midway and upping my bid to $86-- Accepted! PL the offered to extend the stay at the same price-- but just the one night is fine! I had a few more days... might've could a whittled the price down a couple of bucks more, just for the joy of gamesmanship-- but needed the room..!! :)
  16. :) Little did you know-- That's a trick question-- Katy Freeway is what they're calling IH10 these days-- Caught me by surprise- as I was working in Houston for a couple of months- my boss thought I was a complete dolt when I asked him just where "Katy Freeway" was at!!! so indeed- PL lists it as 12401 Katy Freeway!
  17. Check-In Date: Sat, Dec 10, 2005 Check-In Time: After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Sun, Dec 11, 2005 Check-Out Time: 12:00 PM Your Offer Price: $36.00 Number of Rooms: 2 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $72.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $19.84 Total Charges: $91.84 2 rooms-- I was hoping for the Holiday Inn- as it is the official State Soccer Tourney HQ-- and has the indoor pool---- but those rooms were still reserved under the tourny til Dec 5th (another parent and I panicked and bought these last week!!) Probably would have a good chance on the HOliday Inn now... oh well-- BTW - first bid- new the history of accepted bids of course...
  18. nope-- I'm wrong.. when I look up Denver, and pick an area or two, then I get the screen that gives you your hotel options, click on the area which is in parenthesis (airport area, etc..) But it doesn't show up that way in San Antonio, for instance.. but it does in Seattle... Maybe its just in cities that they combined areas??
  19. When you pick an area (or two) and your choices come up-- then select one of the available choices- and in a small section center left of your screen, that's where I found that little tidbit..
  20. I notice also that they indicate what brands of hotels Hotwire deals with for the star level indicated (when you click onto an individual choice)-- I choose a 4 star offering and on the page is this: and the others: Are these the same hotels they would've listed in their info (just not on each hotel offering) in the past?.. and do I take it that if i accept a 3*- I won't get stuck in a La Quinta under any circumstances?
  21. South Beach it is!! sorry guys.. I was typing "stream of consiousness" as my co-worker was bidding on another computer... The Holiday Inn South Beach web page I looked up as I was entering the info said "Welcome to the Holiday Inn South Beach Resort Hotel"-- and without thinking I supposed it was a PL resort hotel.... not the case!! We got 2 rooms originally- now it looks like I'll need one more- so I let you know if PL remains consistent!!
  22. oops--- change that to 3* holiday inn on miami beach! (sorry) started @ 4* miami $45- rejected- rebid to miami beach @ 3*
  23. tried miami @ $45- rejected; added miami beach and upped it to $50! Accepted!!
  24. I can't seem to recall -- did we have a list of the minimum acceptable bids per star level listed somewhere....?? I thought 4* = $ 40 ?? the rest I don't know at all....
  25. I'm looking at the same hotel for 7/16-7/24--- Will PL keep it (or even have rooms from them) during the construction period?? I would think that any objective look would negate the 3* rating if you'll be surrounded by construction! Any other experiences with this issue- or PL policy governing it??? :)
