  1. I'm glad that worked out for you. I'd much rather keep my money than spend it on parking. I have parking secrets for nearly every city....I should write a book and make some money off of it...hehehe
  2. Don't worry, Be Happy! There are a couple of $45 wins, so you only missed out by $1....still a very very low bid to win a 4* hotel in Las Vegas! Compare that to the lowest price on all the websites I checked at $149.00 a night. Congratulations on your win!
  3. I would much rather have a cheaper car than the airline mileage bonus. Most airline mileage credit is per rental, meaning you would get the same bonus amount no matter if you rented for 1 day or for 1 month, so It is really not a big deal. Check the car rental price from all sources if you think you can save some money, but I have found the best prices are not advertised by the company selling you the airplane ticket since they charge extra to let you "save time" by making all the reservations in one place. That is not 100% true, but I almost always find a lower price somewhere else.
  4. Your booking is right in the middle of the CES (Consumer Electronics Industry Show), so I think it's a great deal considering what week it is. Congratulations on your win.
  5. I doubt very much that you overpaid for this property. Usually it goes for more than $100 a night, so your $85 is very very reasonable in comparison. It never hurts to try a low bid a couple of times if you have time, but I know you wouldn't have been able to save more than a few dollars more (or hit the target price on the first try!) Congratulations on your win!
  6. Looks like a very good deal for something that looks like a resort. The best online rate is $139 with AAA, so you are saving about $100 a night. Congratulations and I hope you write a hotel review of your stay.
  7. I see Oakland is only 1 zone now...been a couple of years since I stayed there last. The 3* Holiday Inn at the airport was an awful experience. I'm glad to see you got a much better property. Congratulations! (If it is the Courtyard by Marriott)
  8. Good questions Kevin86. The estimated total does not include any auto liability insurance for you, and it would cost about $10-15 a day if you purchase through the Rental company, doubling the price of your rental. I would recommend contacting your own insurance company to see if they have a "non-owner auto liability insurance" which would cover the Rental automobile. My guess regarding the discount codes is that many are good for certain time periods or calendar dates and your long rental doesn't qualify for those providing a limited discount. Thereuare made a very good point that you can reserve the Dollar Rent a Car such as the one I listed above, then try to get a better price, and not have to worry about the price going any higher than that. If you get a better deal, later, you can just cancel the reservation without penalty.
  9. Looks like the best rate offered right now is $15 a day through Dollar. You might be able to get a lower rate by waiting untill June of next year. Usually August is very hot in Vegas and rates might go down if pre-bookings are low. Dollar Rent-A-Car Chevrolet Aveo or similar 4 Weeks at $105.48 per week. Unlimited mileage. 10. Colfax and Skyrock, the info about the change you can see here: Crown Plaza Union Square. As for as where to spend New Years Eve, if you want to go clubbing, you can see a list of things to do here: San Francisco - New Years Eve. But for my money, just a walk along the fisherman's wharf with someone you love would get my vote for most romantic. And by the way, that is an excellent price for a hotel in Union Square....Congratulations on your win.
  11. If you really want to avoid the $23 parking fee, you can check in, then park in the public garage for $7.00 a day. It is a walk about about 1 block to the hotel. Structure 5 1440 4th St., 665 spaces Van accessible -Enter through alley. Open 24 hours 8am - 6pm: first 2 hours free, $1 each additional 30 minutes; $7 maximum daily; entering after 6pm: $3 flat rate Santa Monica Public Parking
  12. The Hilton Garden Inn I got last summer had the wallpaper completely stripped on that floor and hall carpeting removed and a temporary carpet strip running down the center. The room itself was fine except that it was one of the cases where there were three of us forced to sleep on one King bed. Luckily it was only for 1 night. I haven't had any more stays like that in a while.
  13. What date did you pay for? The distance between hotels is 3.7 miles, not that far considering that the WH - BH extends all the way to the 405 Freeway and UCLA campus. Most likely you will not get any refund from Priceline unless the weather or something you can not control prevents you from traveling to the hotel or if the hotel is overbooked. In the past, those have been the only valid reasons Priceline would accept to get a credit for the cost of the stay. If you want to stay in a specific area like the Sunset Strip and nowhere else, Priceline is not the way to go because that Zone is pretty large. You could have also gotten a Century City 3* Hotel also which is also in that Zone. It's the chance you take when you are bidding through an opaque service.
  14. Congratulations on your win Hotwire prices are about the same as Priceline for this property, so it's a good deal. (Thereuare needs to move this post from San Francisco to LA)
  15. Congratulations on your win. Low priceline wins always go to those who are patient...
  16. Best Western as a Boutique Hotel? I didn't see anything saying it was a Kimpton hotel, but like other boutique hotels it did have a evening wine reception. $119 is a reasonable rate for Fishermans Wharf, but I have been able to book directly closer to the actual dates (about 60 days out) for about $20 less. May is generally a lower traffic month until Memorial Day, I think if you were to monitor the hotel rates, you will see better rates come up. Also, beware of parking if you are driving. The parking fee is $41.04 with tax at the hotel.
  17. Silly me, I usually am paying attention to that. I love skiing in Salt Lake City and my mind was somewhere zig-zagging down Cottonwood Canyon as I was typing my post.
  18. The inconvenience is switching hotels on the last day saved you $215.00....not too shabby. Congratulations on your win.
  19. Was that your first bid? Normally I prefer La Quinta with their free breakfast, but I've gotten them usually for under $40 a night.
  20. I don't think he overpaid too much, but it probably would have been about the same price to book it directly. And by booking directly, you could have gotten rewards miles as well. I think it will help other newer members remember that the best deal isn't always from Priceline or Hotwire. Always use the Car Rental Checker before making your bid because if you aren't saving at least 20%, the additional fees may not make the purchase cheaper than booking it directly through the company. Thanks hatson for sharing your experience.
  21. Yes, I have traveled with 3 or even 4 many times. I would say overall there is about a 15% chance that a request for 2 double beds will not be honored. Some hotels do charge for extra people in the room, so if you happen to win a hotel that does charge, the best advice is to be discrete and not have everyone crowd the counter when you check in unless you really do want to pay for the extra person(s). The 15% usually happens in larger markets like San Francisco or Washington DC. If possible, i bring an air mattress along "Just in case". Hope that helps.
  22. Actually, the location is Mission Bay, very close to Sea World, so it is a coastal area and from the looks of it, a very good price for a Bay View Hotel. Congratulations.
  23. Just wanted to add: Made the priceline car rental bid through www.savingsbarn.com Also made 2 hotel reservations through the Travelworm Betterbidding link. Couldn't use priceline here because it's during the CES show in Vegas, but I was lucky enough to find some 2* rooms reserved for Travelworm at only $50 a night (owned by the Station Casinos group) - which by the way, the Hotels own web site shows them as being sold out. It definitely pays to look around for yourself.
  24. Dec 30 in San Francisco isn't particularly crowded except for folks doing a long weekend there. I think you might be able to get a Boutique Hotel under $100, and maybe the 4* hotels are just above $100. You still have time, so just keep bidding up 2 or 3 dollars at a time.
