  1. It seems the Times Square and MTW zones are all about proximity to Times Square, so Hells Kitchen had to be it's own zone so as not to upset bidders exspecting to be within (short) walking distance. I agree that Klimpton will most likely be the new 4* hotel to be added within the new zone.
  2. How much were the taxes and fees for your stay and the total amount? It seems like a very good rate for Paris. Congratulations!
  3. http://www.marriott.com/hotels/hotel-rooms/dentw-residence-inn-denver-downtown/ The link above is a pretty good description of the property; A bed with privacy doors, bathroom with doors to bedroom and kitchenette and a living room. Residence Inn has been consistently been the best properties I've stayed in and I highly recommend them.
  4. Another thing I noticed is that you are running Friday 5/21 through Wednesday 5/25, For a mostly suburban area like the San Gabriel valley, the Friday/Saturday rate could easily be higher than the weekday rate, especially with the Bimmerfest being held at the Rose Bowl on May 22. You might want to consider trying to bid Sunday through Wednesday to get a lower rate, then try to add on the extra days with the "extend your stay" option, but if demand is high for the weekend, you will probably be paying a higher rate for Friday and Saturday nights.
  5. Because you got a weekend rate, it was very low which is great, but looking at weekday rates of $319 from the hotel web site it may be due to a conference or other event at the hotel that week and makes the $238 rates seem not too bad, but it's your call. As for the best way to IAD, Taxi's cost a fortune and the Washington Flyer means you have to take your luggage on the Washington Metro and then the connecting bus, but I've done it and it's not too bad as long as you are prepared for it. Good Luck!
  6. It is a total scam a not just a problem with priceline, but with all other booking sites as well. The only way to fight something like this is a total boycott of Hotels that continue this practice, but just like airline baggage fees, most people appeared resigned to just live with it. I fly Southwest to keep my free bags. Just an add-on, even Motel 6 is charging resort fees now! Motel 6 with resort fees
  7. It might just be because a pool isn't the amenity most travelers require in Buffalo this time of year. (A little BetterBidding humor never hurts!)
  8. I would answer yes and yes. Yes, it is pretty early to be bidding for June, but it never hurts to try especially if you want a low rate. Yes, you might get the Venetian and upgraded to a 5* property. You might also get the Wynn which have been won recently, the Trump hotel, or another 4* property. There is no sure way to get TI with PRICELINE.
  9. Yes, I was upgrade to 3* and didn't notice it.. Thanks for correcting me.
  10. It turns out the Stratford Court Hotel is a good property, well maintained, clean, with no major issues. I would consider the hotel more like a 2.5* property, but not quite a 3* which happens all too frequently in Priceline. The complementary breakfast mainly consists of waffles, cereal, or fruit with coffee. Both Apple and Orange juice is out during our stay. A small fridge and microwave was included in our room.
  11. My first bid of $45 for 2.5* won an upgrade since there isn't much in the way of rebid zones. Tripadvisor reviews have been really negative due to cleanliness issues, so I'll be holding my nose. I'll post my own review here afterwards. I did use the PRICELINE link on betterbidding.com this time. Happy New Year! 12. Started at $38 for 2.5* Bid in Escondido, Rancho Bernardo, and Miramar-Rancho-Poway Zones going up $2 each time until I got it. Regular discount rate is $89 Excellent property and customer service with both a light dinner and full breakfast offered midweek. Only negative was that the hair dryer in the bathroom was broken. 13. I think he means this hotel: Marina Del Rey Hotel It is close to Venice Beach (about 20 minutes walking), but it is pretty far from Hollywood/Downtown LA, at least a 25 minute drive by car FYI.
  14. darn it, I forgot to add that my purchase was made by using the Betterbidding PRICELINE link on the Homepage!
  15. I think this is the first 1* hotel I've gotten on priceline. Decided to do it since it's only for 1 night and just for sleeping. I still saved 18% over the regular hotel discount rate and 25% over my backup bid (Super 8 Hotel), and hope they'll allow us to have 2 beds, although this is one of those chains that normally charges extra for that. We are bringing an inflatable mattress and bags so we will be ok in any event. I noticed this Hotel is not on the Hotel List, so you can add it. My Bids were: 2* $50 (no rebids) 1* $47 winning bid (I had bid $45 in Red Bluff for 1* and did not win, but it is a different city) Americas Best Value Inn - Redding 1-star Redding 2220 Pine St. Redding, California 96001 Amenities: Color TV w/remote Telephone w/ messaging Reservation and Billing Information Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $47.00 Subtotal: $47.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $12.98 Total Charges*: $59.98 = From Hotel Web Site = PROPERTY AMENITIES * AIR CONDITIONING * CABLE TV * CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST * FAX * HBO * INTERNET ACCESS * LOUNGE * MEETING FACILITIES * NON SMOKING ROOMS * OUTDOOR POOL * PETS * RESTAURANT * TRUCK PARKING
  16. I was just looking for 1 night on the way home from Oregon, but nothing biting so far. I have a backup bid in Red Bluff, about 20 minutes north for $67.50+tax, so trying to beat that. Found out Oroville was a free rebid for 2*, but doesn't look promising. Since I'm driving anyways, I'm also bidding Red Bluff and Redding too for the same night. 1st Round: Corning + Willows $40, $41 2nd Round: Corning + Willows $42, $43 3rd Round Corning + Willows + Oroville (free rebid) $45, $48, $50
  17. Fantastic deal, especially with the Hotwire guarantee. Thanks for sharing it.
  18. I was just about to say the same thing, I guess the tourism market is starting to hurt from the high oil prices.
  19. The main strip hotels do not have airport shuttles, but Bell Transport has regular airport service at about 1/3rd of the cab rate.
  20. Because Las Vegas is such a huge Hotel market, the best strategy at any time is this: 1. Find the lowest price at a Hotel that you like and then make a cancellable reservation. The cost for this reservation is R 2. Decide how much money you would like to save by staying at a priceline Hotel. The amount should be at least 15% of the price to make it worthwhile. Call the savings percentage S. The number of days before your stay is D. 3. Depending on how much time you have, bid D x 2 + S -100 / 100 x R For example say you book Planet Hollywood for $100 a night and you want to save at least 25% for a stay 10 days away. then 10 x 2 + 25 - 100 / 100 X 100 = $55 bid. Then the next day 9 x 2 + 25 - 100 / 100 X 100 = $57 bid. Of course if you are bidding more than one zone/using rebid zones, you can multiple bid also at one time. If were were bidding multiple months out, then obviously don't use the multiple factor of 2 either. You may be rejected many times, but you can't say that you overbid for a hotel at the same priceline zone and star level as your original Hotel choice.
  21. Just another reason never to get chatty about what you paid/saved. Your story is not the first I've heard about this happening. The best thing to do is just be quiet and enjoy the savings. Mistakes should only happen in your favor, not the other way around.
  22. I am not a big Luxor fan, but congratulations on your room anyway....It is a good price for that week. Try the Betterbidding Travelworm link too for your orphan friday night, they sometimes have deals on Vegas Hotels that you can't find on other sites.
  23. They will be opening tomorrow on Thursday January 17, 2008 with Diana Ross performing in their Theater through this weekend. The suites are being discounted online for a price of $199 per night, and since you are booking a weekend, I think it is a nice discount to the regular price. Congratulations on your win!
  24. We stayed at the Sheraton Meadowlands last summer and I thought the shuttle service to Secaucas Junction and NJT was fine during the day, but there were some long waits for the shuttle to come pick us up at night. If you are staying in Harmon Plaza, it's much easier to catch the bus into the city from there with service about every 15 minutes 24 hours a day. For me, the 60 minute round trip from the hotel to the city is worth the $130 per night I saved versus staying in a midtown Manhattan hotel.
