  1. Bid up from $60 using a number of attempts. $70 bid was unsuccessful. Posted rate: $160/night. Offer price: $72.00 - 2 nights Taxes and Fees: $32.68 Total: $172.62
  2. After considering these hotels, I decided to bid on Priceline. I will post my winning bid there. Thanks again for your help.
  3. Oops! Sorry I omitted those amenities. You are correct to add them, and I am looking for only one room, 2 Adults/0 children.
  4. Haven't traveled recently, but I remember this as such a helpful site. It seems that interpreting the Hotwire hotels is more difficult now. I couldn't determine if the order was important, nothing seemed to match exactly. Also, do I look at the Amenities on the first page, or click on the See details? The hotels I am looking to potentially identify on a 3/1/13 - 3/3/13 stay include (from the See details) 3.5*: Indoor pool, Smoke free, Fitness Center, Restaurant, Business Center, High Speed Internet, Accessible for the blind, Accessible for the deaf, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible Bathroom, Handicapped Parking. Recommended 85% and 4* Indoor pool, Fitness Center, Pools, Restaurant, Business center, High-speed Internet, Accessible for the Blind, Accessible for the Deaf, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Handicapped Parking, Roll-in shower. Recommended by 90%. I'll be sure to use the Better Bidding HOTWIRE link. Of course, I realize that there is an element of uncertainty in this process. Thanks for your help.
  5. I started my bid with the HOTWIRE link on the site and got the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Ft. Lauderdale Airport. The amenities listed were Fitness Center High-Speed Internet Rate per night: $63.00 Nights: 2 Rooms: 1 Tax recovery charges & fees: $22.35 Subtotal: $148.35 Trip total: $148.35 Best rate online: $109 per night. I'll also enjoy the complimentary self-parking for registered guests. I noticed the tax and service charge amount matched the more-expensive ($75/night) post from 5/3/11 by valree.
  6. First bid at $38.00 was unsuccessful. I think the non-refundable rate was around $100. 9. Got this a few weeks ago and forgot to post it. Used SavingsBarn.com. Previously had tried 4* up to $120..got a clue about bid amount from Daniel1978 posting. I've never been to Boston before, so I asked my sister where to stay. She said "Find a room near the Park Plaza." Lucky me! Best price at time of bid was $209 and also saved quite a bit over the EasyClickTravel backup at $140. Thank you so much! 11. Just wondering, how likely are the Downtown and Copely 3* and 4* hotels to result in a small room that will really only accomodate 2 adults? I know the Priceline guarantee about two adults... but I'm willing to take a bit of a gamble as I may or may not have a third person on the trip and could consider a rollaway if necessary. Any advice/sharing of typical results would be appreciated.
  12. In the interest of sharing (or misery loves company) posting my bid for others looking for a summer date. This is a Saturday - Tuesday stay. Will book Holiday Inn through EasyClickTravel as a backup. Sky high rates, not sure what it will take to be successful, or how much I want to spend to do so. Patience, patience...
  13. Upon checking in, the receipt said Priceline paid $42. Two dollar overbid..darn!
  14. First bid of $44 was accepted. Used SavingsBarn.com. Congratulations, you got your price of $44 for a 2
  15. I have a friend who used to travel extensively, until a serious accident. He would like to resume travel, but would have difficulty sitting in a coach seat for more than a couple of hours. Anyone have ideas about how he can get to Europe from the USA - reasonably? Are there discount first class fares? Buying miles? Medical discounts? I don't know where to start. Thanks for your help.
  16. We stayed here one night 7/29/05 on a $47.00 bid. This is a brand new upscale hotel located in downtown Wausau. While it is rated 2.5*, I would compare it to a Marriott. There is a JCPenney next door as well as a private coffee shop across the street. There was no mention of Priceline at check in and we were given a two-queen room on the third floor. Many of the rooms are suites, we had a standard room. We did have to pay a $2 parking fee to park in the municipal lot right outside the hotel. The beds were thick pillow-top and had one of my favorite features, a double sheet wrapped blanket. There were several down pillows and I believe a down comforter in addition to the blanket. Furniture was dark-wood and included an armoire, dresser and desk with comfortable chair. Internet connection was available; I do not think there was a charge. There was a CD player which could be set to wake you up to a variety of music styles. The bathroom was very nice, had a granite counter top, Aveda bath products and thick towels. There was a microwave and mini-fridge stocked with honor bar. For example, candy bars were $2, those little shot-glass bottles of liquor were $5. There is an on-site restaurant, the City Grill which looked to be very nice and somewhat "downtown," prices seemed reasonable - most entrees under $15. The restaurant was place for the complimentary continental breakfast which featured a few cereals, coffee cakes, home-made buttermilk biscuits, a fresh-fruit tray including strawberries, pineapple and grapes, bagels, toast, yogurt and a variety of juices, coffee and tea. Apparently there is a full spa, pool, and exercise facilities, I did not have time to visit them. While the hotel is still has a few kinks to work out (no guest services book in room, a few staffing issues, etc.) I would recommend it without reservation.
  17. This Marriott was formerly a Holiday Inn, but has been totally updated to reflect the more upscale Marriott brand. You would never guess it had a former life! There was no mention of Priceline, and all the staff went out of their way to be helpful and welcoming. I paid $75.00 for a weekday stay during a high occupancy period. The beds were very comfortable, pillowtop with 7 pillows, many of them down. There was a down comforter wrapped in a cotton duvet. Large flat screen television, wireless internet (extra fee), comfortable work desk with cozy chair. Light between the 2 queen beds had a dimmer switch. The housekeeping was immaculate. The bathroom featured upscale cabinetry, granite counter top, plush cotton towels, ceramic floor and tub walls. Bath products were made by Neutrogena. The fixtures were replaced, even the door hinges were a new brushed nickel. The pool was small, and had a whirlpool. Next door was an exercise room with 8-10 pieces of nice equipment. There is a business center available for guests, fees vary. There is also a Caribou Coffee cafe in the lobby, open for breakfast, closing hours vary. The hotel is still putting on the finishing touches - for example the Grand Opening of Kip's, their restaurant, occured during our visit, but the accomodations are marvelous. The main drawback is the location. First, it is really isolated in a unusual area with apartments and office space. There is a nearby gas station with a mini-mart, but I did not see any other restaurants or stores nearby. The hotel restaurant is inspired by an Irish pub - perhaps not to everyone's liking. There is a very small onsite pantry selling aspirin, bandaids, snacks (ie $8.00 for a pint of Haagen-dazs). While it took us only 20 minutes to return to the hotel from MOA, the two trips there took 45 and 60 minutes due to traffic and road construction. I would have to think again about bidding here if my main purpose was MOA. Also, directions from Mapquest are inaccurate. Call the hotel and get directions. We finally found it though old-fashioned means (looking up.)
  18. Earlier bid of $40 was rejected, this was my first bid today. Best rate online $89.00. Looks like a new upscale hotel. Congratulations, you got your price of $47 for a 2
  19. Just a follow-up - the parking lot was only about 20% l when I checked in at 10:00 Sunday evening. If anyone tries this again in the summer (non-college time), a much lower bid may be accepted.
  20. Hotel was just what you would expect for a typical Holiday Inn. Helpful front desk, clean rooms, comfortable beds, convenient location. I have stayed in many "college town" hotels that were kind of rundown, this one is just fine. University of Iowa is about 5 minutes away. Absolutely would stay here again. No free breakfast, although they did have an on-site restaurant. No mention of priceline, got a 2 bed n/s room.
  21. Bid various combinations in MOA over several days..believe me, I did not start this high! 4* to $100 rejected, 3 * MOA to $ 80 rejected, 2.5 star MOA rejected to $70. Started new 3* bid SW Minneapolis, rejected at $70, accepted at $75. Sky high hotel rates these few days, here about $160, in fact it's the only hotel not showing sold out in this zone. I guess this is better than MOA Super 8 at $65.00. This hotel was formerly a Holiday Inn. Congratulations, you got your price of $75 for a 3-star hotel room. Check-In Date: Wednesday, July 27, 2005 Check-Out Date: Friday, July 29, 2005 Hotel Name: Marriott Minneapolis West 9960 Wayzata Boulevard Minneapolis, Minnesota 55426 952-544-4400 Summary of Charges Your Offer Price: $75.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $150.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $26.39 Total Charges: $176.39 (Please edit title - incorrectly copied from another post. Should be Marriott Minneapolis West. Thanks)
  22. Airport Shuttle, Complimentary Breakfast, Pool. Hotel was in Normal. I think it's a bit of a stretch to call in a 3*, but it was fine.
  23. Hotel is actually located in Coralville, one of three cities in the Iowa City zone. This was my first bid. Website shows $84.60, so I'm happy!
  24. Paid $30 a night. I'd agree with what pjmystic said. I was assigned a king non-smoking room, but the clerk was happy to honor my request for 2 beds. Top mattress is much thinner than normal, but still decent. The third floor has internal hallways - I don't know if the rooms there are different, but they looked the same from the elevator. Outdoor pool area was very nice and well-used.
  25. Bid up to $46 for 3* and got counteroffer of $52. $30 2* bid accepted on first try. Nice Board!
