  1. Oh..I'm sorry, after reading my message I see it wasn't too clear. Last August we won a 3* priceline bid for Waikiki Park Shore (definitely didn't fit 3* level). Since the fall it appears to have been downgraded to a 2.5 star. It is in the Waikiki South zone. Last May, we got Sheraton Waikiki (North Zone) for 1 night, but that was rated *Resort* since it is beachfront. Sorry for the confusion.
  2. BethKel, yes, when I have booked previously the travel club rates on the site were the same as what they told me for the Entertainment Book rates over the phone, but to be sure, I booked over the phone. I'm not trying to take away from priceline, it's just that if you aren't prepared to get something you may not like...then your stuck. All of March seems to be a busy time, I had the same problem trying to get the Prince Kuhio, I got Beachcomber instead. Reviews aren't as good as Kuhio, but then again, I'm just looking for a place to crash for the night. I also had a doozy of a time finding a decent deal for a week car rental, I had to give up on priceline for that too. It basically comes down to whether you want to insure you'll get a specific hotel, or take a chance. Either way, you'll probably get a nice lil room wherever you book, I remember when I was pregnant, everywhere I went people were extra nice to me...maybe the staff will give you a free upgrade :)
  3. Yup Lonestar, I agree with priceline 3* being a great deal, we got Waikiki Beachcomber for $70 this March, about 40-50 off lowest price. So far have gotten Sheraton Waikiki & Park Shore (yuck!...has since been downgraded AGAIN to a 2.5*) Don't think Aston has beachfront, where as Outrigger does, and if that's a must, I would think thats the only time booking the old fashioned way might be desired. The Waikiki south 3* zones just about all seem to be across the street from the beach, which is great location for the price. This board is great and really helpful...plus more friendly than other out there...thanks guys!
  4. Don't mean to butt in, but if you can't find anything good with Priceline or hotwire, The Outrigger Waikiki website shows standard rooms using the "travel club rate", which is the Entertainment Book card for $128 at the Outrigger Reef hotel. I'm not sure if it's 3.5 or 4 star, but it's right on the beach and nice. If you do use them I'd confirm the Entertainment Card qualifies via phone.
  5. I've stayed at the Aston Pacific Monarch using the entertaiment book and would definitely rate it 3*. During the same stay we extended our trip so I booked a last minute at 3* Sheraton Waikiki on the beach through priceline and I would choose the Pacific Monarch hands down over the Sheraton. We booked a 1bdr condo with an oceanview that looked right up the street to Dukes statue. It was only an easy block and a half to the beach and the kids loved the pool and jacuzzi that was on the roof of the building...32floors up. You could see all of waikiki, diamond head and the ocean from up there. As for the room, it was clean, fairly decorated and had a spacious lanai, full kitchen facilities so we saved a lot of money by cooking a lot of meals ourself. I think most of the units are individually owned and just managed by Aston so they will probably vary slightly. By no means is it a luxury hotel, but it was a pleasant stay, I think the best view are on the 02 side and the higher up the better because as you can see from these photos views from Aston Pacific Monarch I just posted...the Hyatt is blocking some of the view. BTW...thereuare, I made a mistake when uploading the pics and couldn't forget how to delete a photo from the hotel index section.
  6. Wanted 3* south zone only so started at 65 rejected, upped to 70 accepted....seems to be the going rate for this hotel, lowest rate for Beachcomber on other sites was about $120 base. Your Offer Price: $70.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $70.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $16.16 Total Charges: $86.16
  7. Just had to follow up with this good news. It took a few weeks before getting a response, but after writing 2 detailed emails, Priceline issued a refund for our unpleasant night at Park Shore. I also requested that they lower the star level rating, but no info on that. I guess as posts continue, time will only tell on that one. After hearing a lot of negative info from others about Pricelines customer service, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised and am glad I have a reason to continue using Priceline.
  8. Posted a REVIEW of this hotel, it was NOT good news and I am severely disappointed in Pricelines MIS-rating and deception for this particular property.
  9. I stayed at Park Shore a lil over a week ago, in a nutshell.... I would not stay here again. It is possible that our room was an extreme case, but I can only give an opinion based on the accommodations I had. Our room was very worn and downright ugly with a huge green 2x3 carpet stain in the room along with several other large splotches and discoloration. Even at the nearly half-off rate, it still wasn't worth the price we paid. Some positives; a great location across the street from the beach, and we had a partial ocean view. There was a mini-fridge and coffee maker with free coffee and the toiletries & soap were from Bath and Body Works. But if we were staying longer than 12 hours we would have probably moved to another hotel, have stayed in Motel 6 rooms that are better. We're not picky travelers, but this was probably the worst looking room I've ever stayed in. I have already written via email to complain and demand my money back, because IMO, we paid for a 3* room and this wasn't even 2*. I think the fact that they broke their agreement by not delivering a 3* room should nullify the "NO REFUND" policy in this case. I actually took pictures of the stained up, shabby room and requested an email address to find out who I could send them to. IF I have to, I'll mail copies of the photos to every address I could find for priceline. Honestly, It didn't ruin our vacation, since we were just happy to be on our way to Kauai, but it's the POINT. They actually raised the star rating to this hotel to a 3*, when it is definitely not deserved, based on their websites definition of a 3*. Along with the refund, I also requested they drop the star level to an accurate one so other travelers do not have to deal with this. I will probably be posting this review and maybe even the pics of the room on all the travel websites I frequent, so Priceline, if you're out there, I hope you read this and maybe you can put some resolution to my experience.
  10. Thanks for the info. We tried last week with no success, I think I underbid, tried to get by about 6-7 lower per day than what hotwire was offering. I think rates are a bit higher on LIH than HNL. That's the hard part, knowing how much lower you can get it with priceline! :) Maybe we'll have better luck this week.
  11. we need a rental for LIH at end of August, any tips for getting a super deal like this on PL?
  12. Didn't realize you guys had car rental posts too. Got this with my pl hotel last week. Won economy for $15, was offered upgrade to compact for $2 more. Your Offer Price: $15.00 Upgrade Charge: $2.00 Final Offer Price: $17.00 Total Rental Days: 1 Subtotal: $17.00 Total Taxes & Fees: $10.06 Total Charges: $27.06
  13. Started at $50 and was hoping to get Radisson or Beachcomber. Looked at hotels website and the property looks pretty decent. Honestly don't think there's much difference between most of these 3* properties and I'm in great location for a Saturday night hanging in Waikiki b4 flying to Kauai next morning. :) Your Offer Price: $60.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $60.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $13.80 Total Charges: $73.80
