  1. I won a room in Marriott Frankfurt in May 2009 for $65 bidding on 5* West for a stay last night (09/07-09/08) When I printed the confirmation I saw that now priceline shows this hotel as 4* online (as it was some time ago already). How does this come? I buy a 5* hotel but at the time I stay priceline qualifies this as 4* officially on their website? I asked them for 100% refund as I feel cheated!!
  2. Thanks for your help, this is $105 at Expedia so only small savings at HOTWIRE...
  3. 4* Rome Northwest area hotel 09/08/-09/11/10 96 USD Recommended in 85% of customer reviews Tripadvisor 4 of 5 Breakfast Highspeed internet I'd have assumed the Ex-M
  4. this hotel you get without surprise for 55 EUR usually, as secret hotels at lastminute.com for 50 EUR/night, remember 0% recommened this hotel - check TA reviews.. nice but far outside, no pool!
  5. surely Westin is better than the Renaissance but also Westin is "far away" and the hotel is "just" a refurbished old "Arabella Sheraton", Spa seems to be still something like 70ies but the rooms (beds!!) and lobby is new....
  6. Priceline's *-level system is a riddle to me: Renaissance Munich is 20 years old decor and never ever any 4* level (no A/C, bathrooms with broken tiles etc.) - in priceline US it would be 3,5* as this level is supposed to be "older" or "not the most modern" 4* level? Courtyard by Marriott in Berlin is a 3* Hotel but in all websites rates as 4* -> they use US-Standard that Courtyard never can be a 4*?? Hilton Park is 5* now but in the US none of the Hilton would be 5* ever? Marriott Frankfurt is 5* but in the US none of the Marriotts would be 5* ever? Westin Grand Munich and Frankfurt are both 5* but in the US none of the Westins would be 5* ever? Why can't they use same standard around the world?
  7. Thanks chw... I'll have a look when next time in Munich still some time till December :) the good thing with the other Priceline 4-5* wins in "Munich center north" is that parking is free: Hilton Park: you can park outside for free on the weekend or if you are early enough before the nearby bank employees come. Marriott: free parking in surroundings Renaissance: next to Marriott: also free parking
  8. first bid was $70 which was returned by counteroffer to add 15 bucks. Refused and use "south" for a free re-bid with $76 ($75 would have be 69,5 EUR with today's exchange rate, so I thought let's use $76 which is 70 EUR for the total) Official rate at Sheraton's webpage: 110 EUR non-refundable so I saved 40 EUR = 36% Good deal, just hope that the parking outside isnot yet any kind of resident-only area?
  9. didn't want to pay $85 for Marriott or Hilton as we needed 2 rooms (2 adult, 1 kid) and tried $50 for east expecting Courtyard (which is acually 4* in German terms)... got it right away :) Great hotel, price at Marriott.com is 128 EUR (150 USD), some have it for 119 EUR, we pay now 45 EUR :)
  10. started with $60 added free rebid zone and got the Emily at $65 (2 nights) ... mixed reviews in tripadvisor but good location and 50% below official rates :)
  11. I was visitor of the Milano mobile (Furniture) for the last 3 years and could never understand how the hotel prices in Milan EXPLODE every time when an international fair happens in Rho (fair grounds). The 2* charge 200 EUR, 3* 300 and 4* 400, the 5* start at 700-800 EUR per night (not per week!!) Incredible that anybody pays but seems to happen otherwise the prices wouldn't be so high. I got Marriott 1 year ahead for next year's mobile (in April) as you can see in my post.... just think they forgot to block priceline rates for that period. In your case "HelloNewMan" I suppose you are too late right now, I'd book a flexible room in the surroundings e.g Varese (cheap train ever 30min ca. 45min) e.g. ATA Hotel oder Yes Hotel and try priceline 2-3 days before your arrival again. BE careful with the regions outside, hotels are sometimes difficult to reach with public transport, then Varese is even better (Yes-Hotel has free shuttle, free breakfast, free pool and nice and new rooms). ATA Varese is a bit offtrack (no shuttle) but has very nice pool, Wifi... maybe you want to rent a car? Alternatively pay the exorbitant rates :)
  12. please also remove the Atlante Garden from the "other countries" hotel list for Vatican
  13. I doubt that this hotel is in Central Rome, just checked normal priceline and it is still sold as "vatican" area (e.g. 09/08/10 till 09/10/10)
  14. sure I suppose most of our fellas here in the forum know how NOT to walk into the (PRICELINE) hotel trap: don't take any extras at the hotel: no breakfast, no roomservice, no minibar, no parking and no spa (if charge).... Actually I know some guys who are so happy that they have Marriott Hamburg for 50 EUR that they had dinner in their room almost every evening during that 1 week and ... also used the parking for 27 EUR/24hs as it's "convenient".... :)
  15. regards from the Porto Sheraton Hotel & Spa... my bill at TV says 65 EUR (so looks like this is what hotel will get from priceline) BTW: free Wifi in lobby (computers and e.g. for your Nokia N900) 5*? absolutely true but also the prices are 5*: SPA access is 10 EUR/day/person and e.g. Espresso 3 EUR, in a normal Bar outside it's 0,55 EUR!!!!
  16. tried many times before but now 5 days before arrival had following experience: weekend Friday-Sunday I got counter offer to add $18 at bid of $70 Firday - Monday I didn't get any counter offer bidding $75 Had my girlfriend try $75 for Fri-Sun -> counter offer to add $18 (hhmm, yes good idea :) ) extended the trip to Monday (as above) but bid $79 and got the Sheraton Porto Hotel & Spa. 71 EUR isnot bad for this 5* property, we have been there 3 years ago (paid 102 EUR incl. Breakfast for two). However they charge for the Pool :) and to charge 25 EUR/person for breakfast buffet is impertinent if you pay same for complete dinner incl. wine for 2 persons. There is a bar next to the hotel, which has breakfast for 2 EUR.... BTW: Porto, Portugal works in Priceline as Oporto (OPO=airport)
  17. Milano Salone del Mobile is during that period!!A 4* in city center cost during the fairs usually 400-500 EUR (600 USD) Tried many times 5* up to 130 bucks, got counter offer to add $23 at my $100 bid for 4*, added 3* for 110 but rejected. Today I won the Marriott Grand Milano for $115 :)
  18. started with $55 added East for $65 and got Marriott Frankfurt.... 5* or not, good price!! Of course there are 4* hotels a bit more far away from center for 52 EUR with Breakfast (double at otel.com)
  19. The date you used is a very special date! It's midsummer holiday - the longest day of the year and most hotels are closed because this party is celebrated usually at the countryside with family: Usually they have a BBQ and get drunk like hell (as every weekend) I'd check prepaid sites as alpharooms, otel as they have good rates, you know what you get and BF is included. In priceline you get Holiday Inn West which is not bad but a bit off the city and should have similar rates on their own websites.
  20. hotel parking quite expensive. there is a supermarket parking behind the hotel....
  21. we expected the Marriott or Renaissance (also becaue of the 3 rooms request) but got the NH Altona, which is e.g on Hotels.com a 3* hotel :) Total cost in EUR with PL NYOP per night is 65 EUR - Official rate with similar conditions: in avarage for similar days is 115 EUR. There is a hotel business fair/convention in town that weekend, official lowest rate at this hotel is 83 EUR, so priceline rate is 25% below this rate.... no risk no fun My theory is with stronger USD-Rate even lower bids should be sucessfull (as the hotel will get paid in EUR, less USD is more EUR) Positiv with this win is: easy access from Highway A7, free parking and free Sauna.
  22. this hotel is known at tripadvisor as 4,5* and has very good reviews! I started with $45 for 2 nights, changed then only first night and tried $55, then only last night for $67. Extended stay afterwards for day earlier arrival. total each day which is ca. 58 EUR - official rate is 110 EUR at www.marriott.com and $168+taxes at priceline. Very nice bargain!!!! :) This is a new addition to the priceline hotel list!
  23. Just tried for the Electronica Fair Munich (which is Nov 9th to 12th 2010) www.electronica.de/ Youthhostel rates start at 45 EUR (A&O Hostel Hackerbr
  24. low PL-NYOP Rate, free parking (if you're lucky) and the vicinity to the U-Bahn Station "Nordfriedhof" are the only good things about this place which somehow tries to follow the American hotel idea of the Marriott brothers: free coffee in Lobby and (mobile) A/C to fulfil the 4* requirements somehow .... However the rooms are worn and outdated (from 90ies), tube-TV, the carpet is rotten in rooms and aisle, tiles in bathroom come off. "Wellness Oasis": 30
