  1. @ jamester: why did you use $65 to start? Didn't you read the topics here winning the Moevenpick for $45?
  2. Priceline is easy to cheat :) Tried yesterday starting with 4* West for $40, got counteroffer to add $15, declined and added zone "East" well knowing that for $45 there won't be any 4* in East. Didn't work out this time (I won for $45 recently) :) So today I changed my strategy: started with 5* East for $75, then added 5* West for $85 - nothing as expected (5* was only to confuse the priceline system) :o Then I added 4* (valid for both but see above) and used $47 - won as expected the Moevenpick :) Hotwire showed a $55 4* in Frankfurt which is most likely the Moevenpick, and the total at hotwire is usually a bit below the priceline rate with same bid amount (meaning priceline is a bit more expensive even hotel will get same money) I won Moevenpick last time for tranfered to EUR 41,50 with winnig bid $45. Due exchange rate fluctationthe 41 EUR now slightly more in USD - and I was right with my bid $47 Your Offer Price: US$47.00 Subtotal: US$47.00 Taxes & Fees: US$11.17 Total Charges: US$58.17 EUR: ca. 42,5 EUR (incl. credicard fee for foreign country transactions- a German "speciality")
  3. at least the Marriott has Pool and Sauna, Moevenpick has nothing like that just fitness (gym)
  4. does PRICELINE guarantee for 3* Hotels free Wifi???
  5. now www.sniqueaway.com sells this hotel for $139 :) for other readers: remember this property will charge $30+tip for valet parking (outside for free), $12.95 for internet and - what I really dislike - $25 per person per day for Sauna and Jacuzzi in the Spa area :o nickel and dime :)
  6. actually I'd have prefered to extend my earlier booking but clicking the link on priceline "extend you stay" generated a error message "we cannot proceed your wish" but you can buy this hotel for offical rates.... and the Marriott was offered for $220 :) Never saw this before on priceline NYOP - seems that they try by all means selling rooms for official prices - good trick but I am not the guy who gives up easily..... :o Started a new bid for the extra night (1 night longer in the future - Wednesday to Thursday). Started with $75, $85 and $90. The latter brought a counteroffer to increase to $110, continued with $91 and then $92 - what a surprise won again the Marriott Laguna Cliffs :) Of course a new booking has the risk that they could give you another hotel (happend once to me in Hamburg, Germany 'cause I didn't know about the "extend-your-stay" functionality :) ) - this risk was quite low in this case.....
  7. Started with $65, added rebidding zone by zone $75, $85, $90, $91 up to $92 - no counteroffer!! $92 won - as expected - the Marriott Laguna Cliffs :) Wanted to extend... see next priceline hotel entry...
  8. just got this deal thru HOTWIRE travel-ticker: Stay at the Hotel Abrego in Monterey for only $89, including parking. Upgrade to a deluxe fireplace room for $20 more. Rooms feature custom furnishings and Italian linens. Stay now-April 27. Book by February 16. Cancelable 72hours before and looks like better hotel slightly more expensive.....
  9. used the 3,5* selection hoping not get upgraded to Marriott (old) or Hyatt Regency (we stayed there 2 years ago - nice but to far outside of the city). $75 with counter offer ignored and continued with free bidding zone to $81 - was hoping to win the Portola Hotel and Spa - got the Casa Munras - also ok, free parking, free Wifi... Website discount is $119 for my dates so 32% discount only with Priceline or 45 to the offical rate.... A Larkspur Collection Hotel - whatever this means for the standards, pictures at TA look like Motel from ouside ... ?? :)
  10. Yes I also think that the Renaissance is the better deal. Their website says that lobby and restaurant is currently under renovation so I suppose their PRICELINE winnig rate will increase even more during 2011. Remember that last year March I got this hotel for $43 (35% lower than this time)
  11. I think it really depends on if you are a vacation or on business. For Holidaymakers I'd definetely recommend to stay in the downtown area (BTW: airport is very central so taxis to most hotels, BB and apartments - 5-8 EUR make sure they don't cheat you what they usually do :) ) Personally I prefer apartments in the quieter (tourist free) areas west of "Bairro Alto" Lapa and Santos.... Business or just 1 night: stay in the sourounding hotels (e.g. Novotel, Mercure, Corithnia, Marriott etc.) The hotel prices in Lisboa vary very much on when you book: long before arrival they try to keep them high as possible but the more your wait they will decrease! So I'd book a flexible rate in the prefered area if this gives you security (to have a room at all) and check frequently your prefered alternatives incl. the booked hotel. If there is no fair I'm almost sure that you'll end up - 5 days before arrival - at the following price level. 5* 80-120 EUR 4* 60-80 EUR 3* 40-50 EUR 2* 35-50 BF included or not (that's part of the game) B&B depends on area (they usually don't change the rates at all): 90 EUR is already on the top end I'd pay in Lisboa refering to the above hotel rates. Enjoy Lisboa!
  12. I won this hotel last year for early March for $43 :) but seems that times have changed: I started with $50 and added the 2 free rebidding zones with $55 and then $65 which got me the "Renaissance Newark Airport Hotel" :) Good Marriott-brand hotel, free shuttle and pool. :) I was thinking if we should bid for 2.5 and get Country Inn for $55 or $62 at hotwire but the breakfast won't work for us (only till 9:30 :o and we'll need to sleep long having arrived 1:30 am) and the rooms look much worse than this Renaissance!
  13. started with $75 as I understood the times are gone when the Westin was sold for below $70, added $10 each rebidding zone and got the Westin Newport Jersey City for winning bid $100 :) this will be our 3rd stay in the Westin, first won it for $90 (at EUR exchangerate at its very height) back in fall 2009, then last year I used the stay3pay2 nights for similar final price. This win is my most expensive as the exchange rate to EUR makes a 100 USD bid (plus taxes) almost same total amount in EUR (ca. 10% less = 91 EUR)
  14. started for 4* with $70 in the SOMA area and got counteroffer to add $20, denied and increased in $5 steps adding free bidding zones. at $90 I got his for a total of $108/night - official rate at SPG is $142 so savings are only 25% :)
  15. started with 40 4* West got counteroffer to increase $15, used East zone with $45 and got accpeted by Moevenpick as expected. Hotwire had 45 USD was well but the "taxes" seem to be higher at Hotwire? We've been at the Moevenpick 2 years ago. Good central location, quite new and quiet behin the fair grounds. Good sleep guaranteed!
  16. Thanks the Priceline Airfare link works but no one-way ticket can be bid for?
  17. how to bid on flights? I can't find any NYOP option in the flights section??
  18. colleague won Holiday Inn City West for above winning bid, ca. 85 EUR - official rate 111 EUR... again the evidence that in Helsinki it isnot worth to use priceline..... nice newer hotel a bit out of town ... better than the older downtown hotels
  19. still can't imagine why this hotel is rated 5* at PRICELINE... old hotel I won it last year as 4*
  20. my colleagues got the Renaissance Munich for dates Wednesday 11/10/10 to Friday 11/12/10 (Electronica fair Munich) actually not bad as officially the rate would 269 EUR/night but the hotel isnot really a 4* anymore (old decor, bathrooms a bit dated) however better than staying on the countryside for double price (maybe such offers at countryside include breakfast)
  21. we started with $65 and got the Marriott Munich right away (ca. 55 EUR) - it's Electronica fair during that time official rate is 289 EUR!!
  22. I've also been in Moevenpick... hotel is newer and very nice ... however it misses the Marriott beds and Sauna/Jacuzzi which is big plus of the Marriott. "Roomwise" I'd rate the Moevenpick much better and for the 45 USD in any case this is the better deal (40EUR total)
  23. so this long distance call Italy-UK was it worth: they will refund 100% of the booking - didn't expect this but it's true - another example of excellent US-customer service! :) This would never ever happen with a European based company... Thumbs up priceline!! :)
  24. unfortunately I noticed this only 1 day before departure when printing out the confirmation.... was anyway a excellent deal for a Marriott Hotel during the week (was quite booked last night and we got "upgrade" to executive level but w/o the privelleges to access the lounge :) ... this is quite unnormal because all the recent Marriott upgrades in Germany or US enabled us to access the lounge area..... Priceline cannot reply by email and ask me to call ... this sounds like a special case they don't want to find as "general" rule in any forum entry :)
