  1. Tried bidding with Priceline but the only cheaper rate I bid didn't take so I wasn't going to pay more through Priceline than Hotwire. Very happy. Unfortunately with fees and everything it comes out to $52 total for the trip. Very happy overall though. Doesn't get too much better. Used support PRICELINE and HOTWIRE page links.
  2. Used the PRICELINE support links here to start my search. Started around $70-75 I believe. Originally was going for 4* but I went up pretty high and hadn't had a hit so I switched to 3.5* before I ran out of my rebid zones. Total came out to $110 or so with taxes and fees. Property looks average on Trip Advisor reviews. We'll see. Just one night.
  3. Thanks for the help. I checked on MAPS and HOTELS.com.com and saw that there is really nothing much available in those areas, even paying full freight. I added in Westport to my zones and using my re-bid zones, started at $60 and increased up to $84 and snagged the Sheraton Westport Plaza for 9/28-9/29. I used the PRICELINE link from the thread. Reviews seem to indicate it's a nice property. It's a bit of a drive but I guess that's what I get for waiting so late. All in all I'm really happy. Total bill came to about $105. Fees on the Name Your Own Price are a bit steep. Thanks for your help.
  4. I'm traveling to STL for just one night, 9/28-9/29. I'm having some trouble getting a 3.5 or 4* in Forest Park or Downtown. Using the PRICELINE links on the forum, my bidding history is as follows. 4* only, rebidding up to $68 just for Forest Park. Next day, 3.5* or 4*, added Downtown, rebid up to $96. No dice. Looking at Hotwire, it seems a lot of properties are sold out. Any advice? I would preferably like something in Forest Park or Downtown. If not, anyone have any suggestions for the next best thing? Would prefer 3.5* or 4* of course but I need a room somewhere so will take what I can get. Thanks in advance.

  6. I was unable to get a winning bid on PRICELINE for these dates. There must be something going on in Boston this weekend because things seem really booked up. Was pleased to be able to get this property at this rate. Good location and a nice property. I bid over the course of several nights up to $235 for 4* initially and then 3.5* for 9/7 - 9/9. I was trying for something in the Back Bay or Boston Common zones. Needed to be in that area. I went to HOTWIRE and was able to pick up the Intercontinental for $208 a night. It is a 4.5* apparently. Very pleased even though PRICELINE couldn't come through for me. I've had great luck in the past. I realize now that the Intercontinental is in Harborfront - Aquarium zone which I had not been adding. Probably could have gotten it for a little less on Priceline. That's the trend I've noticed in the past.
  7. Booked a mid size car from 5/11 to 5/13 on Hotwire for $20.95/day. HOTWIRE was much cheaper than PRICELINE for this trip. I've found that's the case the last few times I've used it. I tried $18/day for even an economy on Priceline with no luck.
  8. I first bid $46. They countered with $58. Of course I didn't take it, knowing that I was close. There were several winning bids here for $52 so I went with that and won. I was hoping for the Doubletree since others had won it at a similar price, but I'm still very happy. Another Better Bidding success. Thanks.
  9. The lowest rate on Hotwire was $21 or $22. Can't remember exactly. Total was $122. I started bidding at $14 for a total of $105 (lots of Priceline fees). I was very surprised to win my first bid. In all of my Priceline bidding I've never done that. Saved a little money and happier to be with one of the big rental companies versus Ace, whom I have never used before.
  10. I found out what the events were in town coinciding with my visit: the International Lawn and Garden Expo and a big Veterans of Foreign Wars meeting. Every hotel in the city was sold out apparently. I was lucky to get anything on Priceline.
  11. I first bid $42 seeing that $43 was the low here. They countered with $57. Thanks to BB I knew I could do better. I upped it to $43 and voila won the bid. I would have liked to have gotten the Concourse Hotel because it has a better location but with a 50%+ discount, I'm not complaining. It seems this is a pretty consistent price for this location. I used the PRICELINE link from the support/travel tab (have it bookmarked). I'm really happy to finally have gotten a good price again. I have been getting unlucky with some of my trips coinciding with big conventions and getting bad prices. Also, rental cars for me recently have been EXPENSIVE.
  12. Well I checked out a few other hotels in the Louisville North and they were close to where I need to go so I added Louisville North and bid $60 and won the Holiday Inn Clarksville. It doesn't look like a true 3* property. People seem to complain about the age of the property but I'll take it. I probably overbid but I didn't have any rebid zones left and my patience was starting to wear a little thin so I'm happy I got it rather than going through this for another night.
  13. Went up to $61 tonight using the rebid zones. No bites. It appears that the Courtyard is the only 3* in the Downtown zone so I branched out to the airport and used one or two rebid zones before it called me out on the duplicate bids. Went up to $50 with the airport zone and no luck. Any advice? I think Hurstbourne is a little far but I need to check exactly. I thought the airport was far but it was only 5 miles away from where I am going. I don't know anyone else who is attending.
  14. Hmmm...I have no idea. I'm going for a very small event. Nothing that would fill up a hotel or even a floor of one. This always happens to me. I tried going to New Orleans and hoped to book a nice hotel downtown for $40-50 (in line with other recent wins) and there were a few conferences in town and everything was booked solid downtown. Had to stay down by the airport.
  15. Started bidding at $42. Rejected. Bid in increments up to $51 (using re-bid zones, there are several for Louisville). No bid went through. I'll have to try again tomorrow. Disappointed because it seems several people have gotten the Courtyard for $50 and $51. Any advice?
  16. Additional bids. * $25 for compact. Rejected. * $22 for economy. Rejected. Ended up booking an economy for $25/day on HOTWIRE. I have some driving to do so I wouldn't mind having a car that will get the best gas mileage. Also they seem to upgrade me pretty often anyway. HOTWIRE 'retail' bookings also allows you to cancel anytime so I may continue trying to book on PRICELINE.
  17. First I was given a page saying that Name Your Own Price was not available for those days. Then I closed the tab and used the PRICELINE link again and searched again, maybe changing my times by 30 minutes and it worked. * $20 bid for Compact. Rejected. * $18 bid for Economy. Rejected. * $21 bid for Mid-size. Rejected. (Thought it was worth a try, why not?) I'll try again tomorrow. HOTWIRE has deals for $25/day (including tax it appears) for a total of $112. I suppose I'll increase by $1 increments until I hit whatever HOTWIRE has for that day and run with that.
  18. I think I used Stockbridge. I can't remember for sure but if you start on the main Priceline page with the list of Atlanta zones, after clicking each one it will tell you which star zones are available. Any one that you choose that has a maximum star value below what you're bidding for will work as a rebid zone. There is a thread somewhere that explains rebidding. It is very helpful.
  19. Started bidding at $30, rejected. Offered to rebid at $38 for guaranteed win. Declined as I knew I could get it cheaper from the bidding history on the board. Added a rebid zone (there are several) and bid at $31. Got the Hilton Garden Inn. Very happy. Perfect location and a great hotel. I was hoping to avoid the Holiday Inn Select as the reviews weren't as good for it on TripAdvisor. Apparently they are in the throes of renovation, so it will probably be the best 3* in the area in a few months. $31 was the lowest price I saw for this hotel or any 3* in the area. Used the PRICELINE link in the Support/Travel Links tab. Thanks again, BetterBidding.
  20. This looks like the 3* Hyatt Place Atlanta Gwinnett Mall. There has since been a hotwire hotel win since this topic was started. Thought I would add it in since I was doing some searching.
  21. Started out by bidding in 3.5* in Fulton-Gwinnett (Gwinnett-Duluth) from $35 to $42. Ran out of re-bid zones and needed to get this tonight since it was last minute. No one has a 3.5* in this area, so I was hoping to be a board first. :) I was really curious what the 3.5* was. Dropped down to 3* and bid up from $32. Added Lawrenceville at $35. Rejected. Added Johns Creek at $38 and won the bid. This seems to be the most common hotel in this area in the 3* range. Johns Creek also has 3* and a Hyatt Place but its threshold must be higher. Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $38.00 Subtotal: $38.00 Taxes & Fees: $12.36 Total Charges*: $50.36 Hope this helps someone. I always share my PRICELINE winning (and failed) bids since this board has helped me out so much. I also used the links in support/travel tab.
  22. Found it: https://reservations.mgmmirage.com/bookinge...&code=PTZRC $100 resort credit and upgrade to suite for $69/night.
  23. Do you have the link to Travelzoo? You're exactly right about the $100 resort credit. Forgot to mention that.
