  1. I've been waiting for the Renaissance to show up in the Vacation product before bidding based on other wins - their rates (hotel website) just fell from EUR249 to EUR209 (yesterday) to EUR199 (last night). This is a really tough zone to bid - even the risky Jolly would be better than some of the new participants that are even farther out than Le Meridien Apollo! Renaissance Amsterdam City Centre And Museum Quarter Kattengat 1 Amsterdam, The Netherlands 31 20 6212223 Your Offer Price: $95.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $190.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $22.13 Total Charges: $212.13
  2. Your Offer Price: $65.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $65.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $15.26 Total Charges: $80.26
  3. Tough period for priceline - I've been bidding for weeks. Went up as high as $120 for LM and $135 for UMCPS/UES/MTW/MTS. I was actually surprised to get a bite. Looks like hotels are starting to free up inventory. First bid: LM $100 Second bid: LM/UMCPS $105 Congratulations, you got your price of $105 for a 4-star hotel room. Millenium Hilton Your Offer Price: $105.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $105.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $21.98 Total Charges: $126.98 We're looking forward to the sauna! It will be interesting to see what Gold HHonors might do for us!
  4. Many thanks to Sue for her bonus link. What a great deal for a quick getaway - and with our Baltimore stay in mid-July, qualification for Hyatt's Faster Free Nights promotion. We're looking forward to celebrating our first anniversary in one of Hyatt's upscale properties (including resorts) for free in September! Your Offer Price: $26.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $26.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $8.91 Total Charges: $34.91 Lowest nonrefundable webrate is $65, lowest refundable rate is $80. Still under 50% of the going rate!
  5. Back to the Hyatt we go. Started at $45, free rebid $50 and $55. There's even an O's game that night. Lowest Hyatt webrate $176 (prepaid, $50 cancellation outside 72 hours), refundable rez for $189. Other hotels well over $200/night. I love paying under 1/3 of the going rate! Your Offer Price: $55.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $55.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $13.27 Total Charges: $68.27
  6. Tried all sorts of bids on 4* (DT/WH, Georgetown/Foggy Bottom, Dupont/Woodley) up to $51, 3* Dupont/Woodley up to $48 (got a $13 counteroffer at $45 - under other circumstances, I would have been willing to go higher on this b/c there are great 3*s in this zone). Since I'm just getting away from home to work for the weekend, I wasn't willing to spend $10-15 extra for romantic surroundings, so I eventually worked my way up to $43 for the 2.5* Courtyard Embassy Row. Your Offer Price: $43.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $43.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $12.01 Total Charges: $55.01 It looks like I actually came out a few cents ahead with the new system based on 14.5% tax. Lowest rate available at this hotel was $89 (although the Wyndham at 1400 M Street has a $63 webrate - wow!). Good review on Travelocity - looking forward to soaking in the whirlpool after typing away for the day.
  7. Hotel rates are extremely high for this weekend - I think because of the International Arts Festival. Le Pavillon just showed up as a vacation product offering during this period this afternoon (I've been watching the vacation product for over a month), so I quickly bid for: 4* CBD $65 - rejected w/counteroffer raise $17 Added New Orleans East, raised bid to $70 - ACCEPTED Your Offer Price: $70.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 3 Subtotal: $210.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $35.53 Total Charges: $245.53 Stayed in this hotel last year and absolutely LOVED it. Even happier to be staying for $30 a night less (and I thought I'd gotten a great deal back then in my pre-priceline days). A friend also bid for the same days and got it for $68!
  8. Yes...the total amounts matched pre-bid and post-win.
  9. The end of a long run of strikeouts for 2.5*, 3*, and 4* in Midtown NYC up to $95. Really happy with this hotel, especially during such a low-inventory period. Lowest hotel internet rate is $200 for 2 people (Travelocity prepaid goodbuy is $160). Reviews are great! 3* MTE $75 Rejected - added... MTS $80 Rejected - added... MT-CPS $85 Rejected - added... MTW $95 - Accepted...The Roosevelt Hotel (MTE) Your Offer Price: $95.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 3 Subtotal: $285.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $51.38 Total Charges: $336.38 Hate the variable booking fee. Shouldn't one expect to pay a set fee for services? Could Orbitz get away with charging a variable booking fee for plane tickets? Is there any way that one booking could possibly cost them more than any other booking? Hmmm...almost as bad as the mortgage industry's junk fees!
  10. Hi Willtravel, I've been trying to figure out whether the Vacations product gives any indication of access to inventory for Hotel bidding, and so far it does appear to. The only 3* MTS hotel that comes up for 5/14-16 or 5/13-15 in the Vacation search (have to "vacation" for at least two nights) is the Sheraton Russell, which seems to have a fairly high priceline rate (it's the only one that's been coming up for my dates, and I haven't been able to get it for bids up to $95). In fact, there are only 14 hotels offering Vacation packages for 5/14-16 and 10 for 5/13-15 - pretty scarce inventory for NYC. I suspect that one can assume that PL Hotel rates will be higher in general when Vacation selection is low. Ah, the psychology of PL bidding!
  11. Thanks for the hotwire tip - I'll take a look at what they have to offer. I'll keep an eye on the vacations product and see if I can test my theory for both NYC and NOLA. I've also experienced the sudden changes in access to inventory (i.e. bidding for rooms in Baltimore for two months straight, then suddenly having hotels bite @ low end bids 8 days before the taget dates). I've stayed at the Pennsylvania, and it provides no more than a basic room - nothing special. The backup rez is Club Quarters midtown @ ~$175/night. I'll check out the Louisiana section of the board. I just posted that info here to illustrate my theory that the vacation product might be used to determine (changes in) access to hotel inventory and optimal points at which to split long stays. Will post any success as it comes along!
  12. Thanks for the quick reply, thereuare! The fact that "not all hotels that participate in Priceline also participate in the Package product" is just the info I was looking for. Rates do seem high for this period of time. But there are still some great deals out there. Travelzoo.com has $95 rates at the Clarion 5th Ave and $89 at The Bedford, Hotel Pennsylvania has a $75 weeknight deal, and The Mansfield has a $144 a night rate (Sunday-Thursday nights) including parking. I was just hoping to find something a little extra special for my parents since it's also their wedding anniversary, and they tend to be perfectly happy with a good price at the red roof inn. Club Quarters (midtown) is their old standby due to a business affiliation that usually guarantees good rates, but a reservation there is going for ~$175 a night during this period. Just to throw another wrench into the mix, I'm also looking for rooms in New Orleans for a conference in June (8-13) and the following weekend on my own dime (14-16), and noticed that rates doubled (or worse) at a lot of hotels on Thursday night (International Arts Festival is that weekend). By running separate vacation package searches I found that 20 hotels were available for 6/8 - 6/12 but only 5 hotels were available for 6/13-16. Le Pavillon (CBD), my top choice, dropped out of the options on 6/12. I was hoping that I could use the vacation package option to determine whether Le Pavillon had given priceline access to inventory as my travel dates draw closer, rather than wasting enormous amounts of time bidding and rebidding for nonexistent rooms (and possibly spending extra $$$ to stay at the Renaissance or Intercontinental). This also seems like a great tool for figuring out the best way to break up long stays for optimal bidding...but I could be wrong since I don't have any experience with it!
  13. I've been having trouble bidding for rooms in NYC for my sister's graduation, 5/18-21. I entered the same dates for a priceline vacation, and none of the hotels that typically bite (i.e. MTE Grand Hyatt @ $75) came up. This seems to be wonderfully serendipitous. Has anyone else tried using priceline vacations as an indicator of priceline's access to hotel inventory? Does it seem to be a reliable strategy? Thanks!
  14. Interesting...I think that every hotel I've checked into with a Priceline reservation requested a photo id. And the Swissotel Watergate in Washington, DC even photocopied it!
  15. I learned from my previous bids - another film team member wanted a room, and this is what I got. First bid: Inner Harbor, $40, Rejected with Counteroffered $12 Raise Clicked "modify request" to avoid $52 bid Second bid: Added Waterfront, $44, Accepted Your Offer Price: $44.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $44.00 Taxes: $5.50 Processing Fee: $5.95 Total Charges: $55.45
  16. Your Offer Price: $50.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $100.00 Taxes: $12.74 Processing Fee: $5.95 Total Charges: $118.69 A great deal - lowest hotel webrates are $189!
  17. Your Offer Price: $50.00 Number of Rooms: 2 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $100.00 Taxes: $11.00 Processing Fee: $11.90 Total Charges: $122.90 Based on taxes I think priceline paid $44 for the rooms...so I could have gotten them for less. Inventory just freed up yesterday after a couple of months of attempts, so I wasn't expecting a bite! Lowest webrates for this hotel are $169.
