  1. Ooops... Did not see the option" Post Hotel Win" Can you move this topic to the right place? Thanks! :) Purchased via your HOTWIRE link. 80% recommended by Hotwire customers. Sometimes, it may be "We are still gathering reviews for this property." ;) It has been down to $63-$64/day for the past 2 days. The amenities listing is pretty much the same w/ Marriott's list. I guesstimated it may be either Marriott stes in Deerfield or Crowne. Crowne looks OK but I would prefer Marriott Stes even though it would take 10' extra to get to Chicago downtown. I knew it would not be the Embassy Stes in Deefield since it did not have the amenity "Complimentary breakfast". Partial amenities list: Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, Laundry Facilities (self-service) Full list: Amenities See description Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center Laundry Facilities (self-service) High-Speed Internet Access Accessible for the blind Accessible for the deaf Free Parking Free Internet Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower
  2. Ditto on the risk factor. It's a big risk this time--compared w/ last year or 2 years ago. Some hotels in USE or Embarcadero look like already sold out due to many conventions at the same time. Go to the hotel web site & check directly their availability. Oct seems a popular time in SF. My 2 cents.
  3. Actually Sept is a bit better-- especially on the Labor weekend. I saw many bids ~ $110 for 4* in US area; the rack rate is even just $109 for some in SOMA. However, Oct is a different animal; hotel rate for the 4* in US area is in the rage of $200ish on HOTWIRE! I heard that there is a free concert on Oct 3 weekend, a marathon on Oct 16 weekend. Local experts, please confirm.
  4. I'm not an expert but it sounds a decent deal. If you break up the price: Air fare (on sale @ VA $90/rt/pp): $180 for 2pp Then the hotel cost is ~ $130/night ( tax included) ==> $115/night pre-tax. Is it about in the same range you try to bid ? If it is then the package deal saves you the stress/excitement from bidding. :>) Based on my previous experience, hotels in Financial district have lower price on the Labor weekend since most bank/financial business close during the 3-day weekend thus lower demand.
  5. Even w/ the complimentary shutter service, you still need to count in the shuttle schedule vs. your arrival time + possible delay. Some only provide the shuttle to certain time at night.
  6. PRICELINE currently has a deal for 5 * hotel in Around La Castellana Area for $89 a night. It looks like Hespera. You don't need bidding but it won't reveal the hotel name until you book-- it works similarly like that of HOTWIRE. It ends July 18; stay anytime between July 16 - September 5, 2010 http://travela.priceline.com/pricebreakers...mp;bypassOK=Yin Around La Castellana Area for $89 a nightin Around La Castellana Area for $89 a night
  7. This maybe late for the poster but it may be useful/helpful for others for future bidding. Some of the hotels ( or just Hyatt brand?) on Priceline start to play the game against Priceline customer(s)-- or perhaps it's just me ( 4 times in 2009). 4 places, the receptionist declared loudly in front of a a line behind me that my reservation is via Priceline & gave me a room w/ double beds which many family were seeking for. My husband & I traveled couple times sans kids & we requested ahead for queen/king bed. The Hyatt hotels in Newport & San Francisco (2 different ones in different areas) helped us to celebrate our anniversary w/ a double bed? What an idea to get us closer?! :) Each time I nicely insisted that it was our 10th anniversary & press on our request w/ a weary smile. Twice my wish was granted in a not-bad location. Once at the Fisherman's Wharf one, we were stuck at a corner right by the jacuzzi. It would be bad if it was in summer; however, it was Thanksgiving; chilly & we just stayed over night before heading up to Napa thus it was not an issue. In summary; it all depends on the hotel, they seem to have Priceline/Hotwire rooms assigned. Sometimes a nice request w/ a big smile may get what you wish for; some time not. It doesn't hurt to ask nicely politely. In my experience, Wyndham & Starwood chain hotels tend to have large inventory or rooms available to give you an "upgrade" to what you ask for. Again it all depends on the time also, if there is an huge event & most of the rooms are booked then your chance is slimmer especially you need 2 connecting rooms. :) That happened to us when we checked in late 6PM at the Holiday In in Anaheim; we had the adjacent rooms but not connected which is pretty inconvenient w/ 2 young kids. We had 2 nice connected rooms at the Sheraton at Toronto airport in a breeze when we checked in @ almost 1AM. I love most of the Starwoods hotels. My 2 cents...
  8. I stayed at the Sheraton few years ago; location is excellent, very convenient to get around downtown, shopping , eateries. Beautiful lobby, same parking fee as most other hotels in downtown; I think they are valet only back then. Concierge is excellent. However, I had it via Priceline & had the impression they gave us substandard rooms; we could not even got the room next to each other for our family w/a little infant needed to be shuffle between our room & my parents' room. It was really inconvenient & they would not accommodate our request. Simple furniture, standard 3* amenities. Check reviews here on this board and tripadvisor for more details on both Sheraton & Westin Harbour Castle.
  9. My guess for the 3* would be the Peacock Suites; amenities matched, TA rating is also matched except the # review is 158 instead of 160+.
  10. It would be nice to be the Fairfield Inn in Anaheim; however, on its own web site; there is a note: " No complimentary breakfast offered at our hotel". :)
  11. Wow, good logical guesswork! Thanks!
  12. Ditto for the Wydham vote. I stayed at both hotels couple times for over a week sometimes; they are both nice- nice rooms, nice hotels. Wydham has much more to enjoy with loaded essential amenities (fridge, microwave, indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna, free computer w/ internet access, etc.). We gave up their in-room wireless; twice it did not work. There are many good eateries nearby. Trader Joe's & Costco also 10' drive. Hyatt room is smaller, has fridge, no microwave, very comfy bed. Read the reviews here & on tripadvisors.com. Also check their locations if that is more important to you than the hotel's amenities & room size. Make sure it has "Suite" icon on the list; otherwise, it could be other hotel(s). :>)
  13. East: Matching Westin Habour West: Can you double check the amenities? "Airport Shuttle" for a Toronto downtown hotel sounds unusual for Hotwire contracted hotels; it is quite a ride of ~20-30' drive; it must be a fee shuttle. :>) Also I'm curious, which date are you looking at? The rate seems to be higher than that of Apr/May dates.
  14. Typo: The final bid was $58. What I couldn't figure out how Priceline works was the lowest rate of Fairmont was ~ $120 while the Hyatt was ~$160; thought that we would have gotten the lowest priced hotel which is Fairmont. The rate of the guesstimated Hyatt on Hotwire was $125. We had a good stay at the Hyatt, though. Not as bad as some others experienced. Thanks, K.
  15. Started w/ $55 4* in Newport Beach area, rebid w/addition of Dana Point & 3 1/2* @ $58. Accepted. Was hoping to get the Fairmont which seems to be much nicer. Used the PRICELINE link on this site. This Hyatt is not too bad but I would think it is just deserve a 3* at most. It looks like a Four Points in Orlando. See hotel review section for more details.
  16. Do these parking lot have in/out privilege? Thanks, K.
  17. Amenities: Airport Shuttle Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-speed Internet Access Spa Services Shreaton's rack rack is $195 for the date. Hope it's not a long walk fr. Terminal 3 to the hotel lobby. The hotel CS told me it's only 5' walk. :) Used your HOTWIRE link.
  18. Forgot to mention that the hotel pre-paid rate is $170 for the date.
  19. I've been lurking around for this hotel; the price unfortunately went up to $69 for this date; it was only $59 ~3 weeks ago but I did not have the travel date confirmed by then. Don't like to travel in August; it is generally hot, crowded & expensive. It's a $16 killing fee for just 1 single day but if you try it w/ multiple days (6 days for instance) the fee is $48/6==>just $8/day. Glad to get this hotel; love it; stayed here before while they were doing the renovation yrs ago. The only issue was loud AC. Used the HOTWIRE link in the upper left box from this board. Amenities: Suite, Fitness Center, Pool, Restaurant, Laundry Facilities. TripAdvisor: Traveler Rating4.0 out of 5(4.0 out of 5) Based on: 20+ customer reviews Last Reviewed: June 2008
  20. Ditto on (1) (2) fr. Aaron JB. Embassy Suites is a great choice or most suites hotels since they normally have 2 beds/sofa bed to accommodate your party of 5. Make sure to call the hotel directly before booking/bidding. Last year, we stayed at an Embassy suites, paid at corporate rate for the whole week but did not get a 2-bed room despite we requested at time of booking & check-in. We booked it only 4 days in advance due to a short notice of the trip. It was simple; they had just a few rooms w/ 2 beds so my husband had to sleep on the sofa bed for the whole time while my 2 little ones shared the nice king bed w/ me. :) I stayed at the Hyatt in Deerfield before; it is very nice; however, you may end up to have just king-bed room; it is kind of gearing toward the business travelers & a bit further to travel to downtown/city. For the suburb, I would stay in Glenview if you could get the Wyndham Suites. It is ~20' to the city or ORD airport & have many good eateries nearby. Also, driving in & out of downtown area during peak area is a pain during peak hours ( 4?-6ish). So plan ahead to get the best out of your short stay. IMHO, there are at least 10 possible hotels beside the Embassy Stes. w/ Priceline for 3 * in Chicago downtown. Hotwire for Chicago seems to be a better choice since they do list "suites" icon. I have no idea about the price; that you need to do a bit more research. My 2 cents & best of luck in bidding!
  21. I believe Laguna Cliffs Marriott has been upgraded fr 3* to 4* in Dana Point zone as of early 2007.
  22. It is supposed to be a nice hotel. My friend stayed there & really likes it. Enjoy!
  23. Thanks for being so kind! Free breakfast or an indoor pool would mark up this HI hotel compatible w/ other 3 * in the area, IMHO. This HI got really bad reviews all over the WWW, though. It made me worried prior the trip. The fridge + microwave amenities made our stay convenient; it worked out for us.
  24. Not too bad as I feared after reading many rants about this hotel all over the WWW! Was able to get 1 room w/ the fridge + microwave for the kids. I think most of the 4 th floor has newer stuffs ( better climate control, newer furniture, etc.). The other room was on the 3rd floor, w/ a bit older furniture but new carpet & almost brand new & comfortable mattress ( I happened to see the manufacture date of the mattress while looking for my slippers). Pillows were kind of puffy for me. Cleanliness was fine. The wall paper in bathroom is dated & some was peeled off at the bottom (cheaply installed). Staff was friendly; I noted the daytime staffs were more friendly & helpful than the night ones. Free parking, easy access by the freeway. There is Beijing Chinese buffet nearby beside American style dinning: Houlihan (inside the hotel) and Hungry Hunter (2 short blocks away). House keeper was prompt. Lobby is nice. Surpisingly; it was not too noisy; I heard only twice the airplane flying sound-- briefly-- at night. It lacks of an inside pool (compared w/ the 3* Radisson in Brisbane) or free buffet breakfast ( compared w/ the 2 1/2* Best Western nearby).
