  1. Amenities listed are: Complimentary Breakfast Pool Laundry I was able to confirm that the pool is an outdoor pool. Going rate through the La Quinta website is $72.20.
  2. This hotel is typical of other budget minded hotels. The location is convenient to the freeway and near restaurants and gas stations. The rooms are clean but ho-hum. Hall noise was loud, but that could have been because we were placed near the elevators and ice machine. The pool was very small and went from 3 feet to 4 feet. There is a hot tub, but it was not in use while we were there. The complimentary breakfast featured hard-boiled eggs, cinnamon rolls, cereal, yogurt, fruit and beverages. The front desk staff was courteous and the support staff was friendly. In all, I have no complaints about this hotel and would not be terribly disappointed if I happened to win this location again.
  3. This hotel rocks! I received this hotel through Howire for $38 per night. What a steal! The hotel is currently under renovation, but there is no construction traffic or mess. I believe that I received one of the new rooms, as everything looked new and spotless. The rooms are very spacious compared to standard hotel rooms. There is a full kitchen that includes a range with oven, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, pots, pans, kitchenware and service for 4. There was a spacious desk with chair, a living room with a pull-out sofa, fireplace and TV, a sleeping area with 2 beds and a TV and a separate vanity from the bathroom. There is an outdoor pool that is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day and what looks like a tennis court. According to the schedule they have posted on the refrigerator, if you are there Monday-Thursday, they have some great "Manager Receptions" with food. The complimentary continental breakfast was hearty with scrambled eggs, sausage links, make your own waffles, yogurt, pastries, fruit, oatmeal, cereal, toast and bagels and standard breakfast beverages-all served in a lovely lobby with a huge flat screen TV tuned to CNN. The clerks were great and I had no trouble with special requests. This hotel is in a nice area near a mall and grocery stores. However, if you need grocery items, they offer a complimentary grocery service. If you leave your list in the morning, they will have your items delivered to your room by 6 pm and they will add the charges to your room. This hotel is on my list of hotels that I would book conventionally and gladly pay full-price.
  4. I received this hotel for a winning bid of $25 per night, and was pleasantly surprised. This hotel is conveniently located off I-80 in the southwest area of Omaha. Check-in was pleasant and there was no problem getting a room with two double beds located on the first floor. Be warned, there are two floors to this hotel, but no elevator. The room was clean and comfortable. There was no hall noise or disturbances from other rooms. Amenities included a coffee maker, shampoo, fluffy towels, TV with adequate number of channels, desk and chair and ample sink space. Included with the stay was a great continental breakfast. Choices included cereal, toast, pastries, oatmeal, fruit, toaster waffles and french toast, juice, coffee and milk. The breakfast room was left open during the day, so we were able to use the microwave to make popcorn and hot chocolate in the evenings. The desk staff was great and I have absolutely no complaints about this hotel.
  5. Or, you could shoot for Denver or Colorado Springs. You could rent a car for a day and drive into the mountains to see the aspens change into their fall colors and then spend the rest of the weekend walking around the city. This is a nice time to visit because the snow bunnies aren't here for the slopes, and the weather is still pleasant. Windy Edited to note: I didn't see the 11/5-11/7 dates. :) However, I still think that Colorado would be pleasant at that time. :)
  6. My girls and I stayed at this hotel 7/19-7/20. Check-in was a bit slow, but that may be because they had an incident earlier that involved evacuating the hotel and emergency vehicles. Everything turned out to be fine (I hope), but the clerk said that they had been slammed since they were allowed to re-enter the building. They did mention my Hotwire status, but I don't think that it affected my room assignment. I had e-mailed them earlier to request a non-smoking room with two beds and it was noted on my reservation and honored. The room was located on a non-smoking floor and was decent sized and clean. The furnishings were tasteful and included a desk with chair, an easy chair with floor lamp and armoire with TV. The bathroom was roomy and featured Pantene shampoo and Jergens soap. There was a coffee maker, iron and ironing board. A complimentary USA Today was left at my door in the morning. The indoor pool was on the small side and the hottub was hot. There is an exercise room with mostly cardio equipment and a TV. We ordered room service and were pleased with the quality of the food, the reasonable price and promptness in which it arrived. My kids ordered cereal, french toast, fruit and yogurt (all included juice) and I had a short stack of blueberry pancakes and after tip and fees it cost me about $17. The hotel is located right off of I-80 and is an easy drive to the downtown area. From what I could see, there was a gas station and a few fast-food restaurants within walking distance. There is a restaurant located in the hotel, but we did not visit. There were about 4 pool tables in the tastefully decorated lobby. We did not tour the hotel, so I can't comment on any other facilities. In all, we were happy with our stay and would not be upset if we were assigned this hotel again. Windy
  7. Since it will only be a few days leading up to Frontier Days, I think that this is a good price. Amenities listed are: Restaurant Pool Fitness Center Business Center Laundry I booked this room through Savingsbarn.com. Windy
  8. This hotel was everything it should be-nice lobby, good location and friendly staff. There was nothing spectacular, and nothing horrible. I was allowed to check-in a couple of hours early, which was much appreciated. The room was clean, but ho-hum. There was a nice chair in the corner with a floor lamp that was nice for reading. Standard amenities with the exception of the $4 bottle of water. Needless to say, we left it there. The pool area had a small pool, hot tub, sauna and game room. We didn't use room service, so no comment on that.
  9. My recent stay at this hotel proved to be nothing short of wonderful! The hotel is beautiful and set in a wonderful location. It is convenient from the freeway and located within walking distance to TGIFridays and DQ. The hotel itself has at least 3 restaurants and I think that 1 offered entertainment. Valet parking is available for around $8 per day, but you can also self-park. Check-in was smooth and courteous. Our room was beautiful with no signs of wear. Sheratons have the most comfortable beds that I have ever slept in. The beds are also decorated with extra pillows, just the way that I like them. The ice bucket came with a set of tongs-I liked the details. The most enjoyable part of the hotel is the pool. It is a very warm pool that is good sized. However, the best part was the 20 person hot tub! No more sitting with strangers and feeling that you need to carry a conversation with them. The hot tub also worked as a kiddie pool when we were there by ourselves, as it was only 3-feet deep. We didn't try room service or any of the restaurants, so I can't comment on those. I really enjoyed this hotel and felt that $40 per night was a steal. I will certainly try to get this hotel again through Hotwire and wouldn't think twice about a conventional booking.
  10. At first glance, this hotel is a dive. It is not located in a nice part of town and looked a little scary at first. The clerk was nice, but the person sitting in the back lacked professionalism. He was on the phone with someone arguing about the different things he was having fixed and what-not. There were some rooms that were being re-done, but my room was not one of them. When we walked up to the second floor and opened the door to our room, I was not amused. There was one bed and enough towels for 2 people. I did not go back to the desk and request anything different because the check-in lady knew that I had 3 children with me and still chose to give me the room. We made due, but I learned never to bid on a 2* again, as these are the economy class hotels that charge more if there are more than 2 people. After we got over this shock, I was actually kind of impressed with the hotel. The room was older, but clean. There were lots of channels on the television and a table with two chairs. In-room coffee was provided, as well as a iron and ironing board. They have a nice pool that goes from 3 feet to 9 feet. My kids were happy because they don't like the shallow pools that seem to be the norm. There was an abundant breakfast buffet that included scrambled eggs, sausage links, hashbrown patties and french toast sticks, all taken care of by a cheerful attendant. After breakfast, it was a straight shot to I-480 to get me on my way home. In all, this room provided what we needed-a bed, some recreation and a hot breakfast. This was a difficult time to find a hotel in Omaha/Council Bluffs, so I should be happy that I had this.
  11. Now for the review: This hotel is located in a historic building that is tastefully refurbished. I found it difficult to park out front, but after my 3rd turn around the block looking for a parking spot, I managed to notice that there was a rear parking lot. You can enter the parking lot, but need a code to get out, which they provide at the front desk. Check-in was pleasant and friendly. They had already assigned me a room, but when the young lady noticed that I had three children with me, she cheerfully changed me to a room with a 2 beds. The room was noticeably older and could have used some updating. The bathroom had a Jacuzzi tub, but was messily caulked and you could tell that the front had been removed and then caulked back on. Everything was clean and comfortable. We ordered room service and I had the best hamburger I have ever had in my life! Cooked to my spcifications and served with awesome french fries. There is an 18% surcharge and a $2 fee tacked on to the bill, but I still only paid about $25 for my meal and three kids meals. The one bad thing that I can think of for this hotel is that there is a lot of street noise. I noticed a lot of sirens-so if you or anyone in your party are light sleepers, this could pose a problem. I could hear noise in the hall, but not from other rooms. There is no pool or any other entertainment for kids. The Children's Museum is 2 blocks away, but we got in too late to visit. In all, this was an enjoyable hotel.
  12. Adding that based on the hotel's website, the lowest rate available is $179.00.
  13. Wanted to add that based on their website, the lowest rate available for one queen bed is $80.99.
  14. Adding that the lowest rate available is $89.10 for the dates mentioned.
  15. I wanted to add that based on this hotel's website, the lowest rate available is $79.
  16. I didn't prefer the Council Bluffs area. For this trip, Omaha is just a stopping point for me and the kids. I really didn't care which hotel I got.
  17. Wouldn't you like to know? :) It's the Sheraton Bloomington Hotel.
  18. I had an extremely hard time getting a hotel in Omaha or Lincoln for this weekend. I can't remember what all I did, but I tried every which way to find a room. I did find out that if you plug in Omaha and use all of your options, you can plug in Council Bluffs and try again. It still brings up all of Omaha, but you are not restricted to the 72 hour rule. Anyway, I started at $35 for a 3* and had to work my way up to $50 for a 2*. I have never paid so much for a hotel in Omaha, but after checking rates on Hotels.com, I know I still got a deal. Windy
  19. Started bidding at $35 for 2 1/2* in Council Bluffs and Southwest Omaha-rejected. They countered with $46, but I chose to add another location. I added Northwest and Downtown for $39-accepted.
  20. Started my bidding for a 2 1/2* at $35 in the MSP Bloomington areas. First bid rejected. Upped bid to $40 and added Southwest. Next bid accepted and "upgraded" to 3*.

  22. I just wanted to add that I thought I was the only one who felt like I was being scolded or that the tone used by the moderator on TOBB was out of line. It was a link from an article posted by someone on TOBB that lead me here and I am very happy to have found a new home. I am also glad that I can set aside my paranoid tendencies and that others felt the atmosphere there was a little toxic. Windy :)
  23. Amenities listed are: Restaurant Pool Fitness Center Comp. Breakfast Business Center Golf Course Nearby Laundry Facilities Will post a review after the trip. Windy
