1. Bid for a friend. Used PRICELINE link at top of forum page.... Started bidding at $40 for 3* and up around the airport. Free rebids at $43 / $46, and hit at $49. Hilton Garden Inn Atlanta Airport/Millenium Center Deal type: Name Your Own Price Offer price: $49.00 /night Number of rooms: 1 room Number of nights: 1 night Room subtotal: $49.00 Taxes & fees: $17.01 Total charged: $66.01
2. $169 per room was the cheapest I saw for a conventional booking. Also, note that it has Pool and Indoor Pool listed as 2 separate amenities.
3. Used the link on this forum to begin purchase... Pet friendly Indoor pool(s) Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center Self service laundry Internet access Travel Dates Check-in: Sat, Sep 13, 2014 Check-out: Sun, Sep 14, 2014 Room type Hot Rate Pet friendly, Indoor pool(s), Smoke Free Rooms , See more Rate per night $74.00 Nights 1 Rooms (3 adults) 2 Subtotal $148.00 Tax recovery charges + fees $39.98 Hotwire total $187.98
4. Used PRICELINE link. Starting bid of $40, and used various combinations of free rebid zones to bid in $2 increments to win in this zone only. No counter offers until I reached $48, where I was countered at $58. After receiving the counteroffer, I changed my bid increases to $1 increments. $49 gave me another counter at $58, then I finally won at $50. Check-In: Tue, Nov 1, 2011 / After 03:00 PM Check-Out: Wed, Nov 2, 2011 / 12:00 PM Offer Price: avg. per room, per night $50.00 Rooms: 1 Nights: 1 + Add nights for the same rate! Room Subtotal: $50.00 Taxes & Fees: $13.99 Total Charged to Card: $63.99 Cheapest rate on the hotel's website was $139 + tax. This is just for an overnight layover only, and as such, I was hoping for the Hyatt, so I wouldn't have to leave the airport terminal, however, this hotel should work well.
5. 2 Rooms, Friday night stay during the summer - figured rates would be high at the casino hotels. Was targeting the Biloxi Coast (#1 choice) or N Biloxi/Ocean Springs (#2 choice) zone.... Over the course of several days, did the following: Tried 4* up to $75 and failed. Tried 3.5* up to $75 and failed. Tried 3* up to $70 in the Biloxi coast zone, and $65 in the N Biloxi/Ocean Springs zone and failed. Tried 2.5* at $55, and was countered at $70. Bid in $1 increments at this point over 3 days.... $58 failed, $59 succeeded. Wingate By Wyndham Biloxi/D'iberville North Biloxi - Ocean Springs 12009 Indian River Road Dlberville, Mississippi 39540 Check-In Date: Fri, Jul 8, 2011 / After 02:00 PM Check-Out Date: Sat, Jul 9, 2011 / 12:00 PM Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $59.00 Subtotal: $118.00 Taxes & Fees: $23.20 Total Charges*: $141.20 The hotel's website rate was $101.15 per room/per night for advanced purchase, or $119 per non for a cancellable booking.
6. Used the PRICELINE link. Started at $50, and bid in $2 increments on 2.5* and 3* properties over several days in both the Orange Beach and Gulf Shores area. (There is nothing above 3* on Priceline in this area.) Most 2-star hotels in the area were showing rates on their websites in the $75-$140 range, while the 2.5 and 3-star properties in the area were showing at $130 and up. Was finally successful at $60. Cheapest refundable rate on the winning hotel's website is $159, although the advanced purchase rate was $135. Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $60.00 Subtotal: $60.00 Taxes & Fees: $14.55 Total Charges*: $74.55
7. Bid $28 for 2.5* and received a counter offer for $43. Ignored the counter offer. Bid $30 and had bid accepted Offer Price: $30.00 Taxes/Fees $11.08 Total $41.08 Per looking at the reviews and the physical address of this one, it appears that this was formally the Amerisuites N.E.
8. First bid - $50..... I have won this hotel twice before and know to normally bid $45 for this based on the $89 rate on Marriott's site. However, I was trying to do 2 things - 1 . There is no rebid in this zone, and I'm not sure if I will be able to bid again before the date of the stay due to my internet access over the next few days, and 2. I was hoping a bid of $50 instead of $45 would get me the Embassy Suites, which had a rate of $99 on Hilton's website. Would have enjoyed the Embassy, but this one will do. Bid using the PRICELINE links on this site. The information below is for 1 night / 2 rooms: Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $50.00 Subtotal: $100.00 Taxes & Fees: $23.20 Total Charges*: $123.20
9. I guessed this hotel correctly.... :) Included icons were smoke free, breakfast, fitness, pool, business services, and high speed net... matching what was on the Hotwire hotel list for this property. Cheapest web rate was 113.00 or 127.69 all in. Hotwire was $46 or $58.61 after taxes and fees, meaning this one is a little more than half off. Probably could have saved more on PRICELINE, although I wanted to guarantee bedding for 2 adults and a child. Used the HOTWIRE link.
10. Used the HOTWIRE link..... Showed $152 for a 4* when the search was done for 2 adults.... Changed to 2 adults and 1 child and saw this one at $159: 4* Suite, Fitness, Restaurant, Business, Hi Speed Net I actually do have 2 adults and a child on this stay, and did not want to risk a Priceline room with only one bed..... ( Thanks Hotwire! :) ) Pretty much figured that this one was the Doubletree before booking, and saw that the cheapest normal rates for this one were in the $220 range. Hotel rate per night - Hotwire hot Rate: $159.00 Nights: 2 Rooms: 1 Subtotal: $318.00 Tax recovery charges and fees: $72.95 Total price: $390.95 Total charges to your credit card: $390.95
11. 1 night - short notice (i.e. tomorrow), which really limited my normal cheapskate-like bidding.... Targeted the downtown/bay area at first with bids from $65 - $80 for a 3* in $5 increments with no luck..... Next, tried a 2.5* in the target area for $65, hoping for the Courtyard or Residence Inn downtown with no luck again. Started over, won on the first bid for a 3* using the Univ Mall/North zone.... The cheapest web rate for this hotel was $109, and $121 all-in, which was the lowest I saw for all hotels in the Pensacola area that Priceline could possibly rate as a 3 star. Thus, I still saved about $40 after all taxes/fees, but may have been able to save a little more if I had more time to do the bidding on this one properly. Used the PRICELINE link for all bids. Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $65.00 Subtotal: $65.00 Taxes & Fees: $15.51 Total Charges*: $80.51
12. I know this is almost a repeat of my last post, but bid stategy and results for the night I fly back into MSY were exactly the same. Only difference was the hotel's own website rate... Used the PRICELINE link. Bid $38 and rejected, received a counter offer for $49. Ignored the counter offer, added a free zone and bid $40 - Accepted. What I believe is the same hotel on HOTWIRE was $53 ($65.72 after tax). Cheapest rate on the hotel's website is $80. Crowne Plaza Hotel New Orleans-Airport New Orleans Airport (MSY) 2829 Williams Blvd Kenner, Louisiana 70062 504-467-5611 Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $40.00 Subtotal: $40.00 Taxes & Fees: $13.39 Total Charges*: $53.39
13. One night for an early flight the next morning.... Used the PRICELINE link. Bid $38 and rejected, :) received a counter offer for $49. Ignored the counter offer, :) added a free zone and bid $40 - Accepted. What I believe is the same hotel on Hotwire was $53 ($65.72 after tax). Cheapest rate on the hotel's website is $117. Crowne Plaza Hotel New Orleans-Airport New Orleans Airport (MSY) 2829 Williams Blvd Kenner, Louisiana 70062 504-467-5611 Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $40.00 Subtotal: $40.00 Taxes & Fees: $13.39 Total Charges*: $53.39
14. Bids up to $55 for a 3* and up to $40 for a 2.5* over multiple days failed. (No free rebids in this zone). Hotel websites for the 3* Courtyard show no availabilty, and the Wyndham website shows this one at $89 plus taxes. Congratulations, your price of $45 was accepted. Wingate By Wyndham - Montgomery Montgomery 2060 East Boulevard Montgomery, Alabama 36117 Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $45.00 Subtotal: $45.00 Taxes & Fees: $14.22 Total Charges*: $59.22
15. Bids up to $55 for a 3* in nearby Prattville failed. Hit this on the first try for Montgomery, and I knew what to bid for Montgomery as it is the same hotel I won a couple of years ago. As always, linked through this forum to the PRICELINE pages. Like the last time I hit this hotel, the rates on Marriott.com were $89. Congratulations, your price of $45 was accepted Courtyard By Marriott Montgomery Montgomery 5555 Carmichael Road Montgomery, Alabama 36117 334-272-5533 Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $45.00 Subtotal: $45.00 Taxes & Fees: $14.21 Total Charges*: $59.21
16. Needed one night before early morning flight to NYC.... The NYC wins for Tue and Wed nights have already been posted. As always, used the PRICELINE link. Based on previous research was going to bid $43, $45, $47, $49 for a 3* in TLH north or south. Hit the hotel I was targeting on the first bid with a $43 offer. Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $43.00 Subtotal: $43.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $12.54 Total Charges*: $55.54 Cheapest rate on Marriott.com is $149.
17. Bid 4* in Theatre District @ $162, $165, $168, $170 using rebids: Accepted / Westin at Times Square. Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $170.00 Subtotal: $170.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $36.29 Total Charges*: $206.29 Like the last win I posted a few days ago for the 3.5* Sheraton, I used the PRICELINE link.
18. Location I wanted - but not one of the hotels I wanted.... :) Will tough it out for 1 night though. Probably could have won a much nicer hotel for $10-15 more. Bid 4* in Theatre District @ $150 - Rejected Bid 3.5* in Theatre District @ $140 - Rejected Closed browser and re-opened using 1 free rebid: Bid 4* @ $158 - Rejected Bid 3.5* @ $152 - Accepted / Sheraton Manhattan at Times Square. Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $152.00 Subtotal: $152.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $33.08 Total Charges*: $185.08
19. Used HOTWIRE link on the board. Changed to 8 adults, 0 children, as I need 2 beds in one of the rooms. Due to the need for this, I decided to stick with HOTWIRE as opposed to using Priceline for this trip, even though I tend to get better rates through PRICELINE. The amenities listed are as follows: Suite, Smoke Free Rooms (needs to be added on the board's hotel list), Comp Breakfast, Pool, Laundry Facilities, High Speed Internet. Note: The vacation packages section of HOTWIRE's website had the same hotel with all amenities listed above. I also checked the hotel website and saw that this hotel has all smoke-free rooms. Based on these 2 factors, I was fairly confident that I would be receiving this hotel. Reviews on Trip Advisor are so-so, while reviews on Expedia seem pretty good. Rooms: 2 Nights: 2 Rate per Night: $39.00 Subtotal $156.00 Taxes/Fees: $27.11 Total: $186.11 Hotel's website rate is $89/night.
20. You may want to look into flying into Pensacola (PNS) instead of Fort Walton. It is about a 30-45 minute drive, depending on traffic from VPS to Destin, and about 30-45 minutes longer to PNS. Unlike VPS, the Pensacola Airport has a discount carrier (Airtran), which helps keep the prices of all other carriers lower. Just doing a quick search, Northwest has flights from BOS to PNS and VPS to BOS on your dates for $327. If you decide to book this, most of the car rental agencies do not have a drop charge if you pick up a car at PNS and drop it off at VPS. By the way... I also found BOS to PNS on 12/27, and VPS to BOS on 1/3 for $296 pp on Northwest, and $297 pp on Continental.
21. Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $45.00 Subtotal: $45.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $14.80 Total Charges*: $59.80 First try / Linked through Savings Barn.
22. Ended up having to spend about 20 minutes on the phone with Priceline, and was transferred to 2 different representatives, but the refund hit my credit card statement today.
23. A review of the Extended Stay cannot be made. Ended up being walked to the America's Best Inn and Suites about 1 mile away. From what I could see around the ESA property while attempting to check in, it was very similar in class to the hotel to which we were reassigned. The new hotel had many more amenities.... Pool, breakfast (average continental breakfast, with make your own waffles, donuts, pastries, cereal, yogurt, instant grits, etc...), and soap/shampoo in the bathroom area. However, both hotels should be rated 1 star in my opinion. Even though this ended up being a free stay due to being walked, I would rather pay the $50 or so that would be needed to win a 2.5* on Priceline in this area, then get stuck with either of these properties at the 1 or 2 star level at $35 or less.
24. Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $35.00 Subtotal: $35.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $12.95 Total Charges*: $47.95 Linked through Savings Barn. There is now only one area for Montgomery that covers all of the city limits. Suburbs including Prattville (15 miles Northeast), Millbrook (8 miles North), and Hope Hull (5 miles South), can be bid on separately, or combined with each other. Unfortunately, these suburbs cannot be combined with Montgomery, even though the city lies between them. The non ability to combine these suburbs with Montgomery effectively limits the free rebids for this area. Bid $40 for 2.5* and was rejected. Dropped bid to $35 and added 2*, and won this. Per info I read elsewhere, I thought this one was a 1* on Priceline. Since this is not, I now know I overbid, as what appears to be the same hotel on Hotwire could be had for about $7 less. This chain's website has a $59.99 rate, and boasts that it keeps prices down by not supplying amenities like shampoo, conditioner, etc... Just my opinion, but I feel that Priceline ought to rate hotels that do not supply such items as a 1*. In addition, after looking this one up on Trip Advisor, it looks like I will need to bring a can of Raid with me. :) Sorry to sound like I'm whining about this one..... Maybe I'll get there and be pleasently suprised.
25. Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $44.00 Subtotal: $88.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $19.81 Total Charges*: $107.81 Hotel is also available on Hotwire at $49 ($62.56 after taxes), while the Radisson website rate is $225. Bid history as follows: 1. Bid Downtown only, $42 - rejected 2. Added N Miami, Bid $43 - rejected 3. Added SW Miami, Bid $44 - accepted Linked through Savings Barn.
