  1. OK....have gotten advice from friends about New Orleans...we can stay in town & dont need a car....so looking for bidding strategy for 10/20 for 7 nights for a 4* in Downtown or FQ.... if I am reading right, hotels in these 2 zones are close to the "action"...PLEASE correct me if I am wrong....found this "bidding strategy" in another post.. Select 4* FQ/DT... Bid $45, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $50, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $63, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $65 would this also apply for my strategy? - The $$ amounts I am sure will need to be higher than up to 65.00 for time frame we are looking at.....do you feel 100.00 max is too low? I can always adjust the $$ amount on my end..... ALSO...can u help identify following 2 HOTWIRE possibilites.... Downtown 4.5*...$135.00 p/n....recommended 90% customer reviews... Fitness, Pool, restaurant, business center, High speed int access...is this Le Pavillon? Downtown 4*...$86.00 p/n....recommended 85% customer reviews... smoke free, Fitness, Pool, restaurant, business center, High speed int access...no guess on this one... Thanx for a great site & all of your help... :)
  2. after much thought...I have decided that since its so close to the trip dates, if we are going to fly cross country to SF, I should research the area much more than I would be able to do with so little plan time...I am sure SF has alot to see & wouldnt want to rush the planning...thanx for the input!! much appreciated!! We'll be heading to New Orleans for these dates. Allie
  3. hi...yes we have considered that option, but I guess as a 1st time visitor to this area we were hoping that maybe we could find somewhere "close" that wouldnt require the pay to park issue....its hard when u are a 1st time visitor...not sure what to expect or hope for...
  4. Hi all.... Have vacation time coming up (travel dates are 10/19 tuesday - 10/28 thurs) & am tossing between San Francisco or New Orleans for the mere fact I can get a good price on airfare & car rental & would enjoy either destination...BUT I am finding hotels "in city" seem to be pricey in both locations & i dont want to pay to park the car....can anyone suggest zones/areas near French Quarter where we can base out of & access the city but also check out other sights in the area? Also...I want to stay in a 3.5 (maybe) to 4*(prefer) hotel...hoping to stay in the below 100.00 range if possible Thanx for any input!! Allie

  6. Thank you all for all of your help & input.... Ended up booking the Trump thru Orbitz as you mentioned for $87.00 p/n along with the 5% off....hard to resist trying this property for that price with the great reviews it has been receiving!! I'm going to get the pull-out sofa, although they claim @ Trump it is a VERY comfortable pull-out "feather-bed" sofa bed, so we will see....hopin for the best All in all the Trump ended up costing approx $400.00 less, so it's worth trying... :) Thanx again!!
  7. some updated info...I have been researching "options".... putting in 4 people for same dates on HOTWIRE it gives rate of $179.00 p/n...which i guess is MAYBE 2 queens whatever hotel this matches to, but has a possibility of being a pull-out couch or rollaway... :o ...not good plus it ends up being $716.00 p/n Plus taxes & fees... going thru Quickbook, I can get Bellagio for approx same pricing, but not sure if 2 queen beds are a guarantee... if I bid on PRICELINE & even IF I get something (still unknown) for 135.00 range, it will have added taxes & fees PLUS the probability of the upgrade fee IF they will even give us a room with 2 beds....to me sounds risky....might save $150.00 but worry about it till we got there... :) If I go straight to the Bellagio web site I can get pricing of total $780.00 including taxes...plus get the 2 beds... which ends up being close to the HOTWIRE price.... :) right now it seems as tho if u arent travelling with your significant other, it almost isnt worth the risk of HOTWIRE or PRICELINE if you want the 2 beds.... :)
  8. sorry....I thought I provided the dates......11/13 for 4 nights....it is for 2 people....as for the "second" bed situation, I dont think either of us would be happy on a rollaway etc....it seems as there is no way to guarantee 2 queens, even thru HOTWIRE?? Any idea what this $20.00 trick is that is mentioned in some of the posts? I assume if we won on PRICELINE from what you are saying it is risky that the hotel may say sorry no 2 bed rooms available? By chance if any other members are reading, has anyone experienced a similar situation & what was the end result? Thanx for your help....
  9. Looking at taking this trip to Vegas with my aunt......recent PRICELINE wins for Palazzo for these dates are $125.00 & 135.00....looks as though the free rebid zones are numerous, so I cant even begin to come up with a bidding strategy....also, this being a trip with my aunt - would need 2 beds....can we ask for that with a PL win (ie...call ahead & ask?)? Even when I look under HOTWIRE link, I dont see anything with a "bed" choice with the 4* north strip or the 5* condo north or the 5* strip north....If they charge extra for 2 beds for PRICELINE win, any idea of the $$ amount? any idea on $$ amount of "resort fee"? any ideas for a bidding strategy maxing out at say $135 - $140? never tried to "bid" on Vegas hotels so ANY info helpful......looks pertty involved with all the zones :)
  10. Thank you for helping!! WOW!! you never know what can happen with this priceline bidding!! Have 2 priceline accts - 1 in both mine & hubby's name, so went onto his 1st to play "lowball".... :) ...& here's the result Used PRICELINE link.... Selected 3* Mystic..... Bid $50..... ACCEPTED!!!!... :) Hilton Mystic 20 Coogan Blvd Mystic CT 1 room - 3 nights $150.00 subtotal $27.69 taxes & fees $177.69 total like I said...you never know what can happen...I am psyched with this win....thank you again for all your help...LOVE this site.... yup...we r going to have some fun.... :o .....Allie
  11. Hi - Looking for bidding strategy for 3* Ledyard(Mashatucket) - Mystic for 9/13 for 3 nights.....see recent winning bid for 3* Hilton Mystic @62.00 for close to the same days, but not exact....can purchase this hotel thru Expedia for 99.00p/n so want to try Priceline to try & get it cheaper....as far as I can see I have 3 "free" rebid zones available to use at the 3* level....like to try max bid of 65.00-70.00 - do you think this is reasonable? I can always adjust the $$ amounts (higher or lower :) ) on the bidding strategy on my own... Also clicking thru your HOTWIRE link, I see a 3* Mystic hotel for same period for $95.00 p/n...amenities are: smoke free breakfast fitness pool(s) business center high speed internet access recommended 100% of hotwire reviews This looks to be a match for the 3* Hyatt Place...would you agree? - can always purchase this if bidding is not successful... can you supply a bidding strategy? - Thank you!!
  12. I drive by this hotel often during work...they have been fixing it up, so hopefully it will be better than the reviews might say....
  13. After MUCH thought, we have decided to stay closer to home for our trip...the deciding factor was the airfare prices...they are very high if you want halfway decent flight times...sorry Vegas...I guess it will have to wait... :) Thank you to all who helped...when we do go, I have a great insight as to the 5* options!! :)
  14. I am still deciding that right now...the answer is "probably" yes....any ideas on the "bed choice"? does that make it clearer which hotel it may be? also the recommendation rating was 95% on this...
  15. grrr...boy did the airfare JUMP in one day!!...plus the 99.00 is gone...that I knew was very possible as the "inventory" probably changes daily...going to wait a few days & monitor the airfare.... :) I am getting the feeling that the 5* wins in the "North" strip area are mostly Wynn, Venetian, Palazzo....the $99.00 price is gone replaced (for 129.00) with hotel with same amenities, but also list bed choice...is this something that might identify more specifically one of the above "possible win" hotels? again, thanx for your help :)
  16. Thank you...I will look let u know what we do...I thought I put this under the Hotwire section...my mistake... :)
  17. Hi all...can u help identify this Hotwire 5* Las Vegas strip - North for Oct 10 - 14 for 99.00 p/n? amenities listed are: resort suite casino fitness ctr pool(s) restaurant business center high speed int acc golf nearby tennis nearby spa services also charges resort fee of approx $20.00 Thank You!! :)
  18. After thinking this through...I am just going to keep the reservation I have @ intercontinental.....If I switch to the 3* Sheraton by the time done with taxes etc...I can just change my reservation @ intercontinental to pre-pay non-refundable rate for the same price....Thank you for trying to help!!
  19. OK..I see it now...just redid the search for the 4 people...now it is down to 2 choices...can u identify... 4* - 303 p/n - fitness ctr, pool, restaurant, business ctr, high speed int access 3* - 259 p/n - fitness ctr, pool, restaurant, business ctr, laundry, golf nearby both would be OK, but looks pricey...already have back up reservations which i can cancel at intercontinental for 300.00 p/n....
  20. Hi - going to red sox game Sat 6/5...can u help identify these 3 hotels? Also want to use hotwire as I will need 2 bed definate as there will be 4 adults...can this be guaranteed if bought on hotwire?.... 4* - 215.00 p/n - fitness ctr, pool, restaurant, business ctr, high speed int access.....(Intercontinnental?) 3* - 177.00 p/n - suite, fitness, pool, restaurant, high speed int access..... 2.5* - 59.00 p/n - continental b/fast, high speed int access.... please help!! & thanx you as always.....
  21. went ahead & tried my strategy... Selected 3* Kensington/Cromwell... Bid $35, if rejected add re-bid zone1... Bid $37, if rejected add re-bid zone2... Bid $39, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE Selected 3* Rocky Hill... Bid $41, if rejected add re-bid zone1... Bid $43, if rejected add re-bid zone2... Bid $45, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE Selected 3* Kensington/Cromwell & Rocky Hill... Bid $47 Accepted @ 3* Crowne Plaza Cromwell 47.00 - room 13.27 - taxes & fees 60.27 - total I really think if I had reversed my strategy & started with Rocky Hill zone on 1st part & then did Kensington/Cromwell on the 2nd part, I might have won this a little cheaper, but I am happy with the result... :)
  22. I am trying to decide if I have figured the correct bidding strategy out on my own :) ...... Would this be correct?: Select 3* Kensington/Cromwell... Bid $35, if rejected add re-bid zone1... Bid $37, if rejected add re-bid zone2... Bid $39, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE Select 3* Rocky Hill... Bid $41, if rejected add re-bid zone1... Bid $43, if rejected add re-bid zone2... Bid $45, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE Select 3* Kensington/Cromwell & Rocky Hill... Bid $47, if rejected add re-bid zone1... Bid $49, if rejected add re-bid zone2... Bid $51 I'm still trying to learn ..... :)
  23. OK ....That sounds reasonable, but shouldnt my bidding strategy be different than above as there are 2 zones I am willing to stay in? I guess I am thinking there is a strategy that would involve bidding on one zone, then closing the browser & reaccesing the PRICELINE link & then rebidding same thing using the second zone along with the first one.... I am unsure of how to break down this strategy.... :)
  24. good morning - I have tried to win this even going up to an $81.00 max bid - I know I could still try for this, but the reality of it is, the rooms are going for $170.00 p/n AAA rate & I am also thinking they may have a "New Years Eve" party going that night as it is a pretty nice hotel & I think I will have a hard time winning this...We just need a place to stay after a friend's New Years party, & this Marriott is a mile away, but we are going to go to plan "B" as follows Want to try & win the 3*Crowne Plaza Cromwell (could end up being another hotel I know - as long as it falls into the following acceptable zones that is fine..) so - looking to do a 3* in either the Rocky Hill zone, or the Kensington/Cromwell zone...as of right now I see a total of 2 free rebid zones along with these 2 zones.... current pricing for the 3* Cromwell Crowne Plaza is 99.00 - 103.00 (advance purchase & AAA) - would like to try & win for under 50.00...how about a 45.00 max bid? is that realistic as a possible win? Unless you really disagree I am looking for a bidding strategy at the 45.00 max bid - I can adjust the $$ higher at a later date myself if I am finding no success.. Again, Thank you for your help & this great site!! :)
  25. Thanx for the help!! I have figured out what I did - Instead of closing out my windows internet explorer account in my name, I had him sign into his PRICELINE acct without opening a windows session under his account
