  1. Needed three rooms in Ballantyne area. Was bidding for 3* over the past few days, started at $40 and was raising the bids by $5 but not getting much luck. After bidding $50, Priceline offered to raise the bid up to $64. Which didn't make much sense, since there was a PRICELINE EXPRESS deal for $62 in the same area for the same star level. So I went for $55 during the next attempt, and got Aloft. Pretty good deal, although taxes and Priceline fees do bring the price to about $67/night. Thanks for a very useful site, although not much data was available for NC - not a big tourist destination I suppose.

Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $55.00 (USD)

    Number of Rooms: 3

Number of Guests Per Room: 2

    Number of Nights: 1

    Room Subtotal: $165.00 (USD)

    Taxes and Fees: $38.22 (USD)

Total Charged to Card: $203.22 (USD)

  2. Started bidding for 4.5* in N. Michigan Ave area from $70, used 5 free rebid zones increasing bids by $5. Was ready to give up and move to 4* hotels (which are not bad at all in downtown Chicago area), when my $90 bid was accepted. Was wondering if anyone had experience requesting particular room/bed types with this hotel - we're traveling with two small kids, and I was hoping for either a sleeper sofa or for suite with two double beds. Will try calling them a few days in advance to see if they will be willing to do that.

Thanks for a very useful website!

    Summary of Charges

Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $90.00 (USD)

    Number of Rooms: 1

Number of Guests Per Room: 2

    Number of Nights: 4

    Room Subtotal: $360.00 (USD)

    Taxes and Fees: $69.00 (USD)

Total Charged to Card: $429.00 (USD)

  3. Was bidding for a few days, unsuccessfully at lower price points and selecting resorts only - unfortunately this is smack in the middle of the holiday season. I also had $5/night reward bonus from Priceline that applied to this reservation. Didn't win a beach hotel as I was hoping for, but decent reviews otherwise. We'll see how it will work out. Does anyone know the best beach nearby that can be reached by car?

Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $145.00 (USD)

    Number of Rooms: 1

Number of Guests Per Room: 2

    Number of Nights: 3

    Room Subtotal: $435.00 (USD)

    Taxes and Fees: $63.84 (USD)

    Total Room Cost: $498.84 (USD)

  4. Hello! I don't normally use Hotwire, usually stick to Priceline. But Hotwire is listing available 5* hotel in Puerto Rico in Rio Grande - Humacao area, and was curious as to what this could be. The following are the amenities:

5-star Hotel in Rio Grande - Humacao

This Hotel features the following amenities:

    Resort

    Near Beach

    Fitness Center

    Pool(s)

    Restaurant(s)

    Business Center

    High-Speed Internet Access

    Golf Nearby

    Tennis Nearby

    Spa Services

    Children's Activity Program

    Accessible path of travel

    In-room accessibility

    Accessible bathroom

    Handicapped parking

    Roll-in shower

It has 4.0 out of 5 rating on TripAdvisor. Anyone has an idea as to what this could be? The price was quoted for me at $293 at the end of December.

  5. Was bidding for the past few days, from $40 to $45 for 3* hotel. Went a little higher today, from $40 to $45 to $48 and finally to $50 by adding (empty) zones, and keeping star level at 3*. $50 bid was finally accepted.

    Summary of Charges

Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $50.00 (USD)

    Number of Rooms: 2

Number of Guests Per Room: 2

    Number of Nights: 1

    Room Subtotal: $100.00 (USD)

    Taxes and Fees: $22.84 (USD)

    Total Room Cost: $122.84 (USD)

Thanks for a very useful site, hoping that my information will help someone as well.

  6. Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $48.00 (USD)

    Number of Rooms: 1

Number of Guests Per Room: 2

    Number of Nights: 1

    Room Subtotal: $48.00 (USD)

    Taxes and Fees: $14.25 (USD)

    Total Room Cost: $62.25 (USD)

First bid at $45 in Airport PHX area for 3* was rejected, Priceline suggested I try $53/night. I added Apache Junction (no 3* in this area of Phoenix), bid $48 and was accepted. Reviews look decent for this hotel, maybe an older property, but will do for one night. Thanks BB for helpful site!

  7. The first bid of $70 was accepted much to my surprise. Somehow was expecting Warwick, but I'll take Sheraton as well. One con - extra charge for WiFi? Was offered to extend stay for the same price. Thanks BetterBidding for excellent resource! By the way - love the new form for posting a win ;)

    Offer Price:

Avg. per room, per night $70.00

    Rooms: 1

    Nights: 2

    Travel Insurance: $10.00

    Room Subtotal: $150.00

    Taxes & Fees: $27.26

    Total Charged to Card: $177.26

  8. Just to update the board on this. I ended up renting a car from LastMinuteTravel - their rates were much better than anything PRICELINE or HOTWIRE offered, or I bid up to. I got the car from Hertz, and it appears they didn't offer any hourly late charges, only daily ones. I did bring the car back about 2.5 hours late, and was charged for one full extra day. The price was about $10 more than what I paid through LMT, so in a hindsight I should've just paid for 4 days. Oh well, will know better next time.

Thanks for a very useful board.

  9. The Fairmont San Jose

    San Jose, CA 95113

Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $78.00 (USD)

    Number of Rooms: 1

Number of Guests Per Room: 2

    Number of Nights: 2

    Room Subtotal: $156.00 (USD)

    Taxes and Fees: $30.44 (USD)

    Total Room Cost: $186.44 (USD)

Was bidding for a few days, gradually raising prices from $60. Apparently hotels are expensive in August in Northern CA! Was ready to give up for the day, after adding the last rebid area that I was interested in. Had at least 3.5* stars selected, but got upgraded to 4*. Downtown San Jose was not my first choice, but I'll take it. Thanks for a very useful resource! Used Priceline link from BetterBidding of course :)

  10. Does anyone know how extra hourly or daily charges are calculated for cars rented through Priceline? I'm renting a car at SFO, and will be bringing it back about two hours after the 24 hour cycle. When I enter the hours I need to rent it for - say between 7:00pm on Tuesday and 9pm on Friday it calculates the time period as 4 days. I wonder if I enter 7 through 7pm, and then just pay extra charges for two hours - how much will that be?

Thanks in advance for any information!

  11. Needed a hotel in Trevose/Bensalem area on a short notice. Bid $35 for a 3*, got a warning that this price has a very low chance of being accepted, got denied, then upped the price to $40 and added 2.5*. Was surprised to win immediately and actually got a 3* hotel.

Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $40.00

    Subtotal: $40.00

    Taxes & Fees: $13.17

    Total Charges*: $53.17

Thanks for a helpful site to which I keep coming back to!

  12. I've seen $65 on HW, but a weekday unfortunately. It appears that Saturday prices are a bit higher. But I agree with you re: difficult area. Town is too small, one area, too few hotels. Oh well. Omni appears to be a good hotel though, although we'll see after I get to stay there.

I have been bidding for about a week and half in Charlottesville with no success for 8/7. Difficult area to try to guage your bid with only 1 zone and big range of reported win prices (I guess typical for a college town). My last bids were $ 57 for a 3* and $ 49 for a 2-1/2*. There is a 3* on Hotwire for $65 (although just went up to $ 69 today) which I believe is the Holiday Inn University. I think I will try two more bids up to around $ 65 for a 3*; and if not successful, I will probably make the Hotwire purchase if still in the $ 65 to $ 70 range - even though the Holiday Inn has very mixed reviews on TripAdvisor.
  13. Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $70.00 (USD)

    Number of Rooms: 2

    Number of Nights: 1

    Room Subtotal: $140.00 (USD)

    Taxes and Fees: $24.58 (USD)

    Total Room Cost: $164.58 (USD)

Started bidding a few days earlier at about $45 - kept being rejected, after increasing my bid by $5. The lowest for 3* for the same date on Hotwire was $79, so $70 was a decent deal, and about as high as I was willing to go. Looking forward to the trip. Thanks for a useful resource!

  14. Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $85.00 (USD)

    Number of Rooms: 2

    Number of Nights: 4

    Room Subtotal: $680.00 (USD)

    Taxes and Fees: $119.24 (USD)

    Total Room Cost: $799.24 (USD)

Was bidding for a few days, even went as high as $90 yesterday without any luck, decided to try lower price on a whim today, and what do you know - the first offer got accepted. Which tells me that inventory does change from day-to-day. A decent deal in NMA area, I think. I know we could have probably gotten a better price in the Loop area (maybe for a better hotel), but wanted to be near nightlife. AaronJB - what do you think? Used BB PRICELINE link of course. Thanks for a very useful website!

  15. Aaron, thanks for the very useful Chicago travel information. We'll be going there in July, and are in the process of bidding for a decent deal in NMA area through Priceline. We'll see how it goes - we still have a bit of time before our trip.

    1. While your trip is your own, I ask you reconsider seeing Navy Pier. It's really not worth the time (look up "tourist trap" on wikipedia and there's Navy Pier; that's a pretty accurate description), but that's just my 2 cents. It's really unfortunate, because the space could be put to far better use.

    What about Stained Glass Museum

on the pier? We were thinking of visiting the Pier solely because of it - as I am in the stained glass hobby. Worth it in your opinion?

    Thanks much!

  16. Dates: 06/20 - 06/22

Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $60.00

    Travel Insurance: $30.00

    Subtotal: $390.00

    Taxes & Service Fees: $62.37

    Total Charges*: $452.37

Needed insurance, and requested three rooms, but the offer price of $60 was accepted immediately. I'm booking for several in-town visitors, but I know this hotel well - a very nice place in a good location. Easy walking distance to Adams Morgan and Dupont Circle (a bit further away). Lively night life just a block away.

Went to PRICELINE from BetterBidding - thanks for a very useful forum.

  17. Initial bid of $40 for 2 rooms (price each) accepted immediately. Stayed before for $45, so pretty happy with the price. Thanks to this website for help getting a good price.

Congratulations, your price of $40 was accepted by Courtyard Philadelphia Bensalem.

Enjoy the information, hope it's useful to someone.

  18. Bidding multiple times, gradually raising price from about $140. Was about to give up and stay with friends, when my offer was accepted. Additional fees and taxes brought the total to above $200, so don't forget about those when rising your bid. Went to Priceline from http://www.savingsbarn.com/ - the least I can do for this extremely useful website.

Congratulations, you got your price of $168 for a 3-star hotel room.
