  1. Last minute bid @ 10 pm on 6/21 - looking for Costa Mesa Costa Mesa 4* $169 failed 2nd bid - added Newport Beach $200 failed 3rd bid - added Santa Ana 3.5 star $185 won $156.75 is the hotel charge, but the Newport Beach charges a $25 resort fee so the winning bid was $185
  2. Tried to add on an extra night to the Omni Parker House, got the Hyatt Regency instead. Used the Priceline link. Not a big deal, the hotels are 3 blocks apart and this one is actually closer to my office. First try on NYOP
  3. The Omni is fine - not quite as close to my new corporate office as the Westin, but still perfectly serviceable. Ratings on it are really good too. I do confirm that the Omni Parker House is Boston Common - Theater District, not Copley. I got it because I had to add a 2nd zone for rebid and figured that one would be the most expensive... Amenities: I don't recall seeing this as I was NYOP. There is free internet, free parking, and a swimming pool though. Will note that the Omni Parker House does NOT participate in the "add a night" option to NYOP - see my next priceline win Total for the 4 nights was $466.80 - of which $20 was trip cancellation insurance (insane not to do it for winter travel in NE).
  4. Was shooting for the Westin Copley - 1st bid, Copley zone @$90 rejected. 2nd bid, added Boston Common/Theater District - got the Omni Parker. Not complaining - this is a great location.
  5. Wound up going with the PRICELINE EXPRESS Deal: $152 bumped up to $160 for 2 bed, -5% for SUMMER14 promo to go back to original price. $368 total for 2 nights at the Boston Hotel Buckminster
  6. Hi, I don't care which of the 6 zones I'm in. My primary criteria is: Free internet. 3* or higher (have had bad experiences with lesser). Not ridiculously far away. The Comfort Inn, Logan airport, for example, is really, really far away - like 6 miles from Beacon Hill and 44 minutes by metro. I'd rather have the Comfort Inn in South Boston - it is also 44 minutes away from Beacon Hill, but I'm going past all the area I have to work on so is actually a benefit. Budget is how low I can get while meeting the core requirements. At this point we're looking at $150/day or so. The event in Boston around 7/9 is what is screwing things up - costs are up
  7. Hi, I'm doing work mapping the whole city of Boston, but prefer something more central to start with. Zones being looked at: Beacon Hill Boston Common Cambridge East Copley Square Downtown Boston - Harbor Revere-Logan airport The 2 properties above are Cambridge East and Copley Square.
  8. Thanks for the tip. I was shooting for the 3* Marriott Tudor Wharf - which had some wins in the $70-$90 range. I do see the 4* Loews for $149 as a PL express deal - minus 5% Price.line code, it is $141-ish so I think your suggestion of $125-$135 is eminently achievable.
  9. Have failed from $75 to $95 thus far - for zones 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, and 13. Started with 3* Will try again tomorrow starting at 4* Ideally want Marriott Tudor Wharf or Loews Back Bay Used Priceline link (unsuccessfully)
  10. Express deal. Exactly as hotel list indicated. Supposed to have free internet, parking, and breakfast. Used the Betterbidding Priceline link.
  11. This hotel was great! I should have posted this earlier, but I had nothing but good things to say about this establishment. Service was excellent, room was fine albeit a bit worn. Despite my having a room on the first level (around the enclosed pool) and a wedding reception in the clubhouse, noise was barely perceptible after closing the bedroom door. Yes, because the room I was in was a junior suite. The only negative - and this is a minor one - this hotel can be VERY hard to find. Map it carefully before looking for it.
  12. Got 2nd room at same price, but had to add Millenium to initial $53 bid on O'Hare South. Used PRICELINE link
  13. First bid: O'Hare North $50 failed Added O'Hare South $50 failed Added Millenium $53 succeeded Used the PRICELINE link. I thought I'd get the Hyatt Regency, but not this time...
  14. Used the PRICELINE link. Definitely some bad reviews of this hotel, but the more recent ones seem to be ok. We'll see. Hard to beat $40/night (first bid win)
  15. United SFO/LAX/SNA - ORD double miles MR Just booked the Hyatt Regency for the night of 12/18 for $50 First try got it. I've stayed here before; the last time I got one of the 'Tower' rooms - small but at this price, who cares? Used the PRICELINE link
  16. You should be really careful about 3* and lower hotels in SF. While some of them aren't terrible (and many of them are), almost all of them are located in parts of town which most people really aren't comfortable with. As an example: one of these areas is the Tenderloin. It starts 2 blocks east of Union Square, south of Post, North of Market, and goes all the way west to Van Ness. The kind of things you see which you might not be comfortable with: the last time I went through there - which was 9 am on Sunday morning - I had to squeeze around a fight between 2-50+ year old guys (both had lots of white hair). One of them was whacking the other one with the heavy end of his hardwood cane - as in Rocky punching the side of beef sounds. There isn't any hard and fast guideline either: the Whitcombe is fine, but the Renoir 2 blocks away is most definitely not.
  17. I did use the BetterBidding.com link for Priceline. Some feedback on the hotel: 1) It is literally beside the World Trade Center former site. As a result, the daytime noise due to the ongoing construction was quite strong even on the 34th floor. The hotel did provide ear plugs and offered a free white noise generator. On the weekend morning (Saturday 10/30), the noise level from the construction was fine but the room I was given apparently was right beside some type of vacuum system in the hotel. Or at least, there was the sound of a vacuum cleaner in an adjoining room for 3 hours straight... 2) The hotel is quite decent - amenities were excellent, room was large and well appointed. However, for some reason I was only given 1 tiny bar of soap - no bath gel even though the amenities were otherwise very nice (shower cap, mouth wash, shampoo, conditioner, lotion) 3) The hotel stuck me for $30 extra in order to get 2 beds. I didn't mind this time as they also allowed me to check in at 11 am on 10/29. This was despite my calling the day before to request 2 beds - so makes me wonder if this is a standard policy 4) The hotel location is really great. Literally steps to the 'R' subway as well as a very short block to the 4/5/6 subways. The access is also via very short stairs - which allowed the use of the 'R' subway to get over the bridge to Queens Plaza for a short cab ride to LaGuardia. Overall not bad - the main concern would be the noise.
  18. 1st bid $105 MTW rejected 2nd bid $110 MTW+MTE $110 rejected 3rd bid $115 MTW+MTW+Hell`s Kitchen rejected 4th bid $120 MTW+MTW+Hell`s+Financial District accepted Millenium Hilton Now I can go drinking Friday night...
  19. The amenities were as listed in the hotel list - 7 with the last being Golf It was listed as 3* in Hotwire Everything was spot-on - thanks Betterbidding.com!
  20. Tried and tried with PRICELINE in the mid 50s and 60s, finally went with HOTWIRE. Used the HOTWIRE link. Will try for 10/29 - 10/30 still on PRICELINE...
  21. 10/26 to 10/28, Meadowlands, $58 rejected 10/26 to 10/28, Meadowlands + Jersey City $63 rejected 10/26 to 10/27, Meadowlands + Jersey City $66 rejected 10/27 to 10/30, Meadowlands + Jersey City $63 rejected Looks like it is not to be! Booked 10/26 to 10/29 using Hotwire (and bb-link) since Sheraton is saying $189 full price. 10/29 - 10/30 is only $139, so will continue trying...
  22. Tried again yesterday: 10/26 to 10/30, Meadowlands, $55 rejected 10/26 to 10/30, Meadowlands + Jersey City $58 rejected 10/26 to 10/29, Meadowlands, $58 rejected 10/26 to 10/29, Meadowlands + Jersey City, $63 rejected
  23. Sure, but when I see successful bids for $55 and $58... :) $55 for Meadowlands (rejected) $58 for Meadowlands + Jersey City (rejected)
  24. East Rutherford @ $50 failed East Rutherford + Jersey City @ $55 failed
